A preschool teacher turned rental property millionaire!? You wouldn't believe it at first. How could someone like Anne Curry go from making five dollars per hour to bringing in five figures' worth of rent checks every month? While it didn't happen overnight, Anne's story is one that's repeatable by almost everyone, no matter where you're starting financially, how much education you have, or your background. Anne was never destined to be rich. She grew up in a household of non-profit workers, teachers, and those that expected to give more than they got. So when Anne married her husband, a social worker, she knew their chance of owning a home, let alone several, was slim to none. But, her fire for financial freedom and generational wealth never stopped burning, and as soon as she could purchase her first property, she made the jump that changed the course of her life. Now, as an affordable housing landlord with hundreds of units, Anne is on a mission to not only build wealth but help others follow her same path. She went from having very little money to an astonishingly large real estate portfolio simply by asking questions, offering help, and having a tenacious attitude to build up others, not just her bank account. She explains how ANY landlord can get into affordable housing, the massive benefits that this type of investing offers, and the common myths most people get wrong about section 8 and guaranteed rent. In This Episode We Cover: Affordable housing myths and why most landlords are wrong about section 8 tenants How to find affordable housing deals and the HUGE grants local governments offer Scaling into multifamily and how to connect with those that have affordable housing deals Finding a mentor, asking questions, and why you MUST be willing to learn before you invest The new BRRRR method that'll let you level up your wealth while owning your home Types of affordable housing and who to talk to if you want to convert your rental to section 8 housing And So Much More! You may remember today's guest from a couple of previous episodes, once when we interviewed her and another episode where she was gracious enough to allow us to replay the show where she interviewed US. Anne Fricke is a poet, writer, and host of the Walking with Freya podcast, through which she shares her story of raising a daughter with Prader-Willi Syndrome. On today's episode, we'll be hearing about how Anne's family has been handling the distance learning experience during the pandemic, the challenges it has presented, and the lessons that go along with it. Please join us! Show Highlights: Anne shares one of her saddest moments watching her girls during homeschooling. In the midst of the traumatic reactions we might have experienced due to social distancing, there is also an undercurrent of hope that things might be changing. Now is a great time to look at school reform. Anne describes the good and bad points regarding homeschooling, as experienced by her family. Foundation building is still very important at this time. Anne relates some obstacles that Freya encountered during distance learning. One of the glaring differences between attending school and distance learning is the lack of socialization. Children need extra reassurance during this time. Check in with us on Facebook, check in with each other, and hang in there! Links/Resources: Thank you for listening! The Sasuga!

Today, we're excited to be talking with Anne of All Trades! A woodworker, blacksmith, and organic farmer- Anne started creating online content centering on these topics about three years ago with the intent to go full-time as a content creator. This year, she was able to hang up her part-time hat and start working in content creation full-time! Acquiring the skills and getting started in this field began when Anne moved to Seattle seven years ago. Once settled, she set up a woodworking shop and started creating. With only $300 to spend on tools, she started buying tools on Craigslist to fill up her toolbox and within three months she had a fully functioning shop. In addition, she would frequent her local library and read anything she could get her hands on that would help her become as skilled as possible. Show Highlights: Anne would read or watch anything she could get her hands on to help educate herself on woodworking and content creation.Instead of focusing on making large quantities of product, Anne focuses on making fewer things extremely well.Ann honed her skills while working for a woodworking magazine and teaching a woodworking class at a fine arts school. Content Creation Anne started about three years ago after meeting a content creator at a woodworking convention.Skeptical at first, once Anne shifted her mindset and focused on the types of content she was creating, she was able to quit her job within 6 months.Going from the fine furniture world to the content creation realm was a huge change and adjustment. The biggest switch for Anne was mentally. By focusing on the educational side of her interests and not just herself, she was able to show the lifestyle of the brand and offer value to her followers.Anne always tries to make sure that she's sharing the reality of the woodshop as well as tips and tricks along the way. Final Advice “Try to diversify your revenue streams and use social media platforms to do it. As a furniture builder and woodworker, you are constantly creating content. Use this content as a way to develop digital revenue streams. If you're not on social media, get on it!” Contact “Anne of All Trades” youtu.be/X-Ikl6w9xSU@anneofalltradesanneofalltrades.com Contact Acres of Timber www.acresoftimber.com @sawmillbusiness Want more?? Today we chat to the first professional female distance runner, Anne Audain. Anne is from New Zealand and was born with deformities in the bones of her feet. She went on to break down the barriers for women runners and in sport in general. A truly inspiring story of overcoming physical and societal roadblocks to achieve what is possible in your life. She was banned (temporarily) in 1981 for accepting prize money at a track and field event. Anne qualified for the Olympic games 6 times in her career (from 1972 to 1992) and has been inducted into the Running USA Hall of Fame, the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, and the RRCA Distance Hall of Fame. Today’s Guest Anne Audain was born in New Zealand, adopted as an infant and suffered through her younger years with bone deformities in both her feet. After successful reconstructive bone surgery at age 13, she joined a local athletic club and a remarkable running star was born. Through her career Anne set records and pioneered professional running for women. She has since been inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, the USA Running Hall of Fame, and honored with a Member of the British Empire Medal from Queen Elizabeth II of England for her contributions to her sport worldwide. What you will learn about: Anne moved to the US thanks to rumors that the US was going to open the longer running distances to women where previously 800/1500 meters were the longest distances women were allowed to run. The difference in running between New Zealand and the US is that NZ is based on the club system vs the school based systems in the US. How she believes the US system burns young runners out. Anne was given up for adoption as an infant as her mother was a teenaged mom. Her adoptive parents noticed that she did not walk properly and she was identified as having a bone deformity similar to large bunions, but the doctors felt she should not be operated on until she was a young teen and her feet were not actively growing as rapidly. The doctors created a leather boot that allowed her to begin to develop the proper walking motion right away. It seemed natural to her when the casts came off to be like the other kids and run with the sports club. She didn’t want to do the field sports because she didn’t want to jump or drop things on her feet so she started running and then kept going finding she was actually good at it. How the bullying she endured as a child and being adopted and viewed as different made her very independent, self-motivated and comfortable with her own company and training alone. She felt she wanted to run as hard as she could herself, and if she got beaten, so be it. So she didn’t run tactically, she just ran as hard as she felt she could each time and had done her very best. If that meant she was competitive, then she was competitive with herself and the clock. How Anne found her birth parents in her 30s and found they had married a year after giving her up as an infant and she had 6 siblings. Her birth family had watched her as a runner and didn’t realize she was their daughter/sister. Her adoptive parents were supportive and her dad had raised her as an observer of sport so she was prepared to participate when her body was ready. How she ran the fastest debut marathon before the first Olympic marathon that allowed women to run but New Zealand still required her to prove herself before allowing her on the team. As a result she had to run only a few months before the Olympics to qualify and then failed to finish at the Olympics as she ended up in the medical tent with dehydration. How she had watched her male counterparts get paid under the table for doing European races but that women got nothing. She heard about a Portland race that Nike was offering prize money to the first ten male and female finishers and went ahead and said she would accept prize money if she qualified. At the time track sport was still an amateur only event, and she was temporarily banned by the NZ Sport Federation when she won and accepted the prize money. She also was in the US on a tourist visa so was not allowed to accept prize money and was eventually deported. She put her trust in the race directors and those who wanted the sport to change and allow prize money. How she won over 75 road races and believes in consistency of training and going back to the same races where she was familiar with the course. It kept her healthy and consistent and made her a lot of money because she could know how to plan her training and how to focus Inspirational Quotes: The key to success is consistency in training and a determination to give it your very best effort every time.
