At the end of every episode of Authentic Leadership for Everyday People I ask my guests what is the business jargon that drives them crazy. It's a question that was designed to get to know them a little better, and maybe be a little irreverent. What I learned 140 episodes in is that the answers span the range from funny to surprising and sometimes deep, and very time they are really insightful. So here is the 4th yearly anthology, covering guests who were on the podcast the second half of 2023.Vyra ScherJeff RobbinsLynn PulsiferMike SweeneyJazzy T WilliamsIsabella MandisJeff BenderMichel CohenGaia Van Der EschDon MartelliWhitney Hinshaw SullivanMosongo MoukwaDebi KleimanTangia Al Awaji EstradaMelissa KwanDaniel HuerterContact Dino at: dino@al4ep.comWebsites:al4ep.comAuthentic Leadership For Everyday People / Dino CattaneoDino on LinkedIn:

The Quarterly Business Reset: How to Reach your Annual Business Goals Faster

The Jade Boyd Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 5, 2024 20:34

One of the reasons why I think so many business owners struggle to hit their annual goals is because they don't take the time to break them down into bite-sized chunks. At the beginning of the year, they get excited and motivated and create the big pretty map, but then they shove it in a drawer and don't take it out because actually taking action on those goals feels overwhelming. This is why I'm so passionate about quarterly planning. Focussing one one quarter at a time can help you break down your big goals into more managable bite-sized chunks and be more realistic about what you actually have time to do during the next 90 days. It also eliminates the procrastination trap that many business owners fall into when they're constantly reassessing what they should be focussed on each month, week, or day. If you look at a huge list of projects and goals every day, it can feel absolutely paralyzing. It makes it easier to say, "I'll get to that later, there's plenty of time." But in reality, the only way to make progress on your goals is one tiny baby step at a time. If you can separate deciding what to do from the time and place you actually do those things, it will be easier for you to slide into execution mode, stop overthinking things, and just get things done.Today, I'm sharing a simple 5-step process that you can use each and every quarter to have a mini business reset and get clear on the projects and tasks you need to prioritize to reach your business goals.SHOW NOTES: jadeboyd.co/how-to-reach-your-annual-business-goals-faster/ LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:Quarterly Business ResetMy Printable Wall Calendars CONNECT WITH JADEWebsiteInstagramJoin My Email List LEVEL UP YOUR BUSINESS + PRODUCTIVITYOrganize your Business Digital CourseThe Business Edit™ Coaching ProgramFREE RESOURCESFREE Double your Profit While Working Less MasterclassFREE Task Batching WorkbookFREE Weekly Review ChecklistThe Business Minimalist Blueprint WorkbookThe Business Minimalist Podcast ArchiveMentioned in this episode:Download my FREE Double your Profit While Working Less Masterclass! In this free 30 minute masterclass, I'll show you how to set your business up to scale so you can earn more than ever before while working 4-day weeks, taking real vacations, or even taking the summer off. How successful was your practice in 2022? What specific factors have contributed to its success? Which things are holding you back? What do you need to protect against in 2023? If you aren't quite sure how to answer these questions, this week's podcast will be worth a listen. I explain exactly how you can objectively measure your success and create a business plan for your practice that will help ensure you can create the business of your dreams. In this episode, you'll discover why the critical first step in creating a great annual business plan must be to define what success would look like for you. Then, you'll learn how to take your vision and quickly turn it into an organized calendar for the coming year that will leverage strategic planning and data-driven decisions to ensure your practice succeeds. This “highlight” is from a Q&A call with my Mastermind Gold group—a highly interactive, supportive group where people who have tons of questions and concerns about how to start, grow, or transition to a cash-based private practice get the answers, resources, and confidence they need to build the practice of their dreams. We have a group coaching call every week, and we occasionally use excerpts of those calls for this podcast. USEFUL INFORMATION: Check out our course: Automated Talent Attraction and Hiring System

Today on the Academy I thought we could spend a little more time talking about yearly planning since we're approaching the end of the year. If you don't actually have a yearly planning session at your company, it's understandable. It's the end of the year, work has been building up, and you're just trying to get things done and settled before taking a little time off for the holidays. Yearly planning is important though. It's your opportunity to take some time and give yourself permission to stop working in the business and work on the business. In this episode, we're going to talk specifically about running the 2nd-day agenda of your annual planning meeting with the leadership of your company. If you haven't listened to part one of this series I encourage you to head over there now. Taking the time to work on your business, instead of constantly working so deeply "in" the business can be highly valuable. Especially at the end of the year when you have an opportunity to rise above the day-to-day work and identify what went well, or what went wrong throughout the year, and then make an effort to do things that improve and move the company, and your team, beyond the status quo, come the new year. This podcast series is all about making sure that you carve out time to do these meetings. Then you need to add some structure to your meetings. High-level planning meetings without structure can lead to a lot of unproductive swirling and distractions at best. At worst you'll just get pulled down into a completely unproductive spiral, that's just a waste of time. To help you run great meetings, I'm going to recommend again that you check out The Entrepreneurial Operating System, or EOS, from the great book Traction by Gino Wickman. I've covered this before in a previous episode if you'd like to explore a system to run your business. But today I'd like to briefly summarize the second-day agenda for your annual planning meeting that the author recommends. Then I'll sprinkle in a little advice and specifics about what we've done and learned as a team after years of following the recommended 2-day agenda. I've been there because we all know that running a business can be all-consuming. We're all just trying to stay ahead of the tidal wave of work and responsibilities every day. To actually stop working to work on the business for a day, let alone several days can be impossible and more than just a little stressful. But taking the time to work on the business can be highly valuable.
