Today we are back! After taking our first-ever break since starting this podcast five years ago, we're back to launch Season 6 of Life in Private Staffing. Uncovering the extraordinary careers available within the private sector. It is always fascinating to learn how different people discover this industry, but more importantly, how they break into it, and today brings a journey Lara made from working as an Au Pair to House Manager, and she is still only in her early 20s.To anyone out there at the start of their career and perhaps feeling that a career working with UHNW families is too far out of reach, then this is the episode for you. Lara's story is truly inspiring.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The loneliness epidemic is growing among our aging population - a 2024 study by Age Concern found 59% of people aged 65 plus have felt lonely recently.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Catalyst is a Creative Industries podcast, from Chapman University. Each episode features Chapman students who have completed a Podcasting course through the Center for Creative and Cultural Industries at the university. Students who had no podcasting experience or technical ability in the genre before taking the course were able to contribute all the segments to Catalyst this season with the goal being that they will take this ‘hands-on' experience and carry it over to the launching of their very own series. Each episode of Season 13 will feature one to two different interviews conducted by CCI students, exploring different aspects of the Creative and Cultural Industries. We start the Season Thirteen Finale off strong with a look the incredible life and work of Zaydee Sanchez, a Mexican American documentary photographer, visual journalist and writer originally from Tulare, California whose work focuses on labor workers, the environment, and migration, who is interviewed by Kendal Roney. They begin with a discussion of Sanchez's journey of becoming a journalist including how she started off by taking photos at Skid Row to display the heart of the community and then transitioned to documenting a Guatemalan man for two years. They talk about the impact visual journalism has on our society and why it's so valuable. Sanchez dives into the process of documenting hot button topics of recent years and explains how she paints an authentic picture of the people and communities she covers, noting the strict morals that go behind it all. They conclude with Sanchez explaining her evolution as a visual journalist and why it started from a passion project. And we send the 13th season of Catalyst off into the sunset with this concluding interview of TikTok content creator Sarah Pascarella by Samantha Perez. A graduate of Cal State Long Beach University with a degree in Interior Design and a minor in Journalism, Sarah discusses how she made the decision post-graduation to live abroad as an Au Pair in Paris, France. Sarah and Samantha discuss how Sarah, having not known the language at first and experiencing the cultural shift of the move, decided to document her experiences on TikTok sparking discussions on the cultural differences. Sarah's documentation of her life and work have given her a unique voice as a content creator, as she looks at her own perspective shifts in witty and authentic ways. The pair also discuss how diving into the role of influencer has given her new career goals and how she plans to integrate her creativity into her influencer content. They wrap up the interview with some poignant advice from Sarah regarding taking new leaps in life and how new experiences can shape you, just as her choices in career and living in Paris have shaped her own development as a person.

In this true crime story of Love and Murder: Heartbreak to Homicide, host Ky tells you about the shocking case of a double murder in Herndon, Virginia. Was it an act of protection, or was there a premeditated plan at play?As evidence emerges of a romantic relationship between Brendan and Juliana, along with their communications leading up to the murder, the stakes rise. On today's session, Madison Moffat shared some very sad news regarding the Queering The Air team; purely coincidentally, both Sasja Sydek and Seena Katayama are departing from 3CR. Seena has found an amazing career opportunity elsewhere in the media industry that sadly requires her to only perform such work with her new employer. Sasja has been a mainstay of Queering The Air. For a significant period she held the show up on her own while working hard to develop a team. Sasja has decided to sharpen her focus on other obligations, and so departs QTA following an amazing contribution. She will be sorely missed here at Queering The Air; it simply will not the same show without her. This episode focusses on some of the work that Seena and Sasja has performed in recent times, to showcase the value they gave to the program, before wishing them every success. We also hear again from Stacey Stokes about some of the experiences of queer people within the incarceration system, by way of introducing a new spoken word event, featuring those voices, to be held at the Affirmation Station in the near future (awaiting the AF's moving and settling into their new premises).Community Links:TGV and Sephora, Classes for Confidence [in makeup and beauty], Sephora at Melbourne Central, Cnr LaTrobe and Swanston Streets, Melbourne. We're giving out gnomes this week, specifically to Brian Tyree Henry, who joins us to chat all things rip and run with crime thriller Dope Thief (19:58) on Apple TV+. And if reviewing both of those shows (1:23:00, 1:33:34) wasn't enough for you, we also roll out the red carpet for the main event that is The Au Pair on Channel 5 (1:46:10), a show that is…. well, we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise. Like so many before her, Sophie Lionnet, from Troyes in north-east France, had moved to the UK to improve her English, and she took up a job as an au pair in south-west London. At first all was good and she made many friends. But then the toxic nature of the couple who employed her led to her life becoming a total nightmare. Sabrina Kouider and Ouissem Medouni put Sophie through an experience of utter terror, which ended in the most shocking way.Writing Credit: Tanita MatthewsBuy Tanita's new book today:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Murder-Judith-Roberts-Peter-Sutcliffe/dp/1399080121Support me at Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/UKTrueCrimeWatch my videos at YouTubehttps://www.youtube.com/@Adam-uktruecrime/videosSourceshttps://www.uktruecrime.com/2025/02/24/an/ Hosted on Acast. In February of 2023, a 37-year-old pediatric nurse was stabbed to death inside her suburban Virginia home, alongside a stranger from a dating app. But what appeared to be the scene of a sexual tryst gone terribly wrong quickly changed in the eyes of investigators the more they questioned the family's live-in au pair. And when they did, a sinister plot revealed itself. This is the story of Christine Banfield. It's also the story of Joseph Ryan, known as the Au Pair Murders.

In 2023, Brendan Banfield and his au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhães–whom he was having an affair with–planned and went through with the murder of Banfield's wife, Christine, and another man, Joe Ryan. Today's guest is a busy guy. He never seems to stop working. It's Django Haskins from The Old Ceremony. And with a name like Django, your future is basically pre-determined. Music was big part of his parents' (and therefore, his) lives. His parents were a folk duo and had Django playing classical violin at age five. He's been in rock bands since the age of thirteen. And that includes while he was studying literature at Yale and spending a year in China. DId I mention that he got life advice from Ike & Tina's sax player? Well he did. And it stuck because his band, The Old Ceremony, is celebrating 20 years together. Django talks about how he went from Django & The Regulars, International Orange, Au Pair, and Big Star's Third to The Old Ceremony's latest release called Earthbound. That journey includes writing and pasta sessions at Jack Hardy's place, moving from NYC to NC, and writing over 100 songs during the pandemic. Earthbound is The Old Ceremony's first album in nine years, but it was worth the wait. Pick it up wherever you get music or through theoldceremony.com. Follow them on social media @theoldceremony.
