Guest Bio: An award-winning author, popular professor, and international speaker on the intersections of faith, literature, and culture, Dr. Carolyn Weber, a Commonwealth Scholar, holds her BA Hon. from Huron University College, Canada and her MPhil and DPhil from Oxford University, England. She has taught students across continents and now enjoys teaching at New College Franklin and working with the creative community in the Nashville, Tennessee, area. Her book Surprised by Oxford, which won the Grace Irwin Award, the largest prize for best Christian writing in Canada, was made into a feature film. She resides in the country with her husband, four spirited children, and animal menagerie.    Show Summary: Did you go to college and experience a complete change in your faith? Are you preparing to send a beloved child or children to college? During this God Hears Her conversation, guest Dr. Carolyn Weber relives her time of choosing faith at Oxford University while she prepares to send her daughter off to college. Join hosts Eryn Eddy Adkins and Vivian Mabuni as they dig into Dr. Carolyn's faith and her current feelings about sending her daughter off.    Notes and Quotes:   “We have to doubt as wisely as we have to believe.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “What I was drawn to in some ways with the Christian faith was that it was not fair-weather. There wasn't a sense of only loving people when you're in the mood. Love was a verb and a decision. There isn't a grace that can be earned.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “[On the image of Christians] It's not a personality; it's just a glow of a surrendered life.” –Vivian Mabuni  “There is so much messaging about self-worth and women, objectifying women and them not having a voice—which is completely the opposite of how Jesus treated women in the Bible, and that is all the more radical given the timeframe.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “Take and eat—not take and think—take and eat in remembrance of me. Put your body back together that''s been pulled apart by so many things, remember in me and undo the first lie in the garden that you're not good enough.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “There's something deeper [with fellowship] because you know that you can go to them with repentance, truth, pain, sorrow, joy, questions, and they are called to walk with you and you with them.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “You are a daughter of the King. He is the lifter of your head and your shield. There are going to be times in life when you think you have to follow someone, but you have to follow Jesus.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber    Verses:   Women being the first to witness the resurrection: Luke 24:1-12  The woman at the well: John 4  Eve in the garden (the lie of not being good enough): Genesis 3    Related Episodes:  GHH Ep 26 – Big Decisions and Crossroads: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/big-decisions-and-crossroads/  GHH Ep 66 – Dreams and Fears with Jade Gustafson: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/dreams-and-fears/  GHH Ep 147 – Mentoring the Next Generation with Ericka Porter: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/mentoring-the-next-generation/  GHH Ep 157 – Upheaval and Transition with Katherine Catlett: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/upheaval-and-transition/    Links:   Dr. Carolyn's Book, Surprised By Oxford: https://www.amazon.com/Surprised-Oxford-Memoir-Carolyn-Weber/dp/084992183X  Dr. Carolyn's website: https://www.carolynweber.com/about/  God Hears Her website: https://godhearsher.org/  Watch the Video Podcast Here: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM  God Hears Her email sign-up: https://www.godhearsher.org/sign-upsfmc   Subscribe on iTunes! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/god-hears-her-podcast/id1511046507?utm_source=applemusic&utm_medium=godhearsher&utm_campaign=podcast  Elisa's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elisamorganauthor/  Eryn's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eryneddy/  Vivian's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vivmabuni/  Our Daily Bread Ministries website: https://www.odbm.org/

Arya Harris Keller has a BA (Hon) from the University of Toronto. She considered a career in academia but chose to marry and become an adoptive mom to two children instead. Her son has Written Output Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders. Her daughter has Reactive Attachment Disorder. Like most Special Parents, she has dedicated significant time – years – to researching and understanding her kids' issues, making her an unofficial expert of sorts. Arya also has a lifelong interest in spirituality and personal development. After a spiritual awakening, she found some amazing and profound teachers, who set her on the path of yoga, Enlightenment Intensives and Mind Clearing. She loves how Mind Clearing has a foundation in deep spiritual truth, but it remains secular, practical, and relevant to everyday life. She originally studied Mind Clearing to be a better mom, but she found a lifeline and her passion in this transformational work. After 20 years of marriage Arya divorced her husband and started over. She eventually remarried and immigrated to the USA. For the last 10 years she has been giving and receiving Mind Clearing sessions regularly while raising her family. She believes that behind every good Clearer is a good Clearer. She walks her talk, and it is her sacred honor to support other Special Moms (and Dads) on their own journeys of healing and self-discovery.

How does outdoor education differ from outdoor learning? What is the “experiential edge” for both young people and adults? Why does outdoor learning often diminish or stop with older learners? Here's what else we dove into in this Earthy Chat: *embedding outdoor learning into the everyday structures of schools *the distinction between outdoor learning and Land-based learning *unpacking New Brunswick's six global competencies and how outdoor learning helps students achieve them *supporting students with learning differences through outdoor learning *overcoming barriers to outdoor learning, especially for new educators *the lack of conflicting research findings about outdoor learning *conducting outdoor learning with limited resources (and why this is sometimes better) Guests: Nadine Ives has lived in New Brunswick for 28 years. She works for the Conservation Council of New Brunswick as Director of the Learning Outside Project. Nadine enjoyed childhood summers in the Colorado Rockies, tagging along with scientists and students doing field research and attending evening lectures. She followed her interest in biology through school and university, leading to a PhD in hardwood tree ecology. She has been involved in nature education in various forms for over 25 years (from school visits and nature walks, to community engagement, to university teaching). Nadine heads outside to feel grounded, refreshed, and re-energized, and to see what her non-human neighbours are up to. Tzomi Jazwicki was raised in the Rocky Mountains, moving progressively east in stages before making a home in the Maritimes in 2011. With a diverse background in organic farming, interactive classroom activation, and a love of ecology, Tzomi coordinates the Sustainability Education Alliance as part of the New Brunswick Environmental Network, creating incredible initiatives and events that encourage educating for sustainability. Tzomi graduated from Acadia  University with a BA (Hon.) in Sustainability Studies and a double major in History in 2016, and when not in the office, can most likely be found in the garden or the woods — in any weather or season. Dubbed as having a vocal register similar to Adele (GAFFA) and for having a ‘Powerful and killer voice' from Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) and Phil Campbell (Motörhead) it's no wonder Clare Cunningham is making waves across the world with her music. Steve Cropper (Blues Brothers) who features on Clare's latest single 'Heart of Mine' has said ' Clare has such a tremendous voice. She makes me want to play because she sings with passion and feeling.' Cunningham, who was raised in Collon, Co. Louth, the smallest village in Ireland, had a flare for music and singing from a very young age. At just 5 she exclaimed ‘I want to be a rock star when I grow up' and she did just that! By the time Cunningham turned 6 she started learning classical piano playing Mozart by the age of 8 and continued to do so for the following 10 years until she pickedup the guitar and self taught at the age of 16. This was the start of her budding song-writing career, she was highly praised by Irelands own singer songwriter ‘Juliet Turner' and spent the week at a song-writing camp hosted by Turner herself. She saw the natural talent Cunningham possessed for writing and told her this was most definitely the path she needed to embark on.Cunningham took Turner's advice and moved to Dublin after high school where she secured a national diploma in Popular Music performance and technology. With this at hand she then headed overseas and studied at the ‘London College of music' (Vocal Tech) where Cunningham had her first TV appearance on ‘Sky TV' singing one of her own penned songs. Graduating with a BA Hon's Degree in Music Performance and Technology, Cunningham moved to Cardiff, Wales UK where she started up her own business and become a professional singer. She created a 70's classic rock line up called ‘Smokin Aces', who were both a covers and originals band and were very popular all across the country. It was thanks to ‘Smokin Aces' and Cunningham's decision to put up some material onto YouTube which landed her the position of lead singer for the very successful Swedish all female rock quintet ‘Thundermother'. The five hard-core rock chicks had major success in the rock charts and landed a signing with ‘Warner Music' Sweden for their first album ‘Rock n Roll Disaster.' A signing with ‘Despotz Records' (Sweden) then followed the release of their second album ‘Road Fever' gaining support from artists such as ‘Mötorhead, Airbourne, D.A.D, Zakk Wylde, Halestorm, Michael Monroe, In Flames, Opeth, Danko Jones and many more, touring all over Europe and playing some of the biggest European festivals including ‘Sweden Rock Festival', ‘Bravalla', ‘Alcatraz', ‘Getaway Rock Festival' and many more. Cunningham decided to leave Thundermother in January 2017 and is now putting all her focus on her solo career.Cunningham released her self -titled debut solo EP in November 2016, with ‘Low Medium High Records' selling copies all over the world and is just a taste of what Cunningham can do. She isn't afraid to tell the truth, get raw and use the spirits of country, folk and rock when it serves her greater purpose.Clare now resides in the USA (Nashville predominantly) where she is taking it by storm having already played at 'The Nantucket Project' (2018) and at world renowned 'Sundance film Festival' (2019) She had a song placement in a Lionsgate movie (Bernie the Dolphin 2) in December 2019. January 2020, she signed with Symphonic Distribution, distributing all her material through them. Clare's latest project has been recorded at iconic RCA studios, on music Row in Nashville. The band on the recording consist of Audley Freed on Guitar (Sheryl Crowe, The Chicks, Black Crows, Joe Perry) Steve Mackey on bass (Garth Brooke's, Dolly Parton) and Jared Kneale on drums (Lauren Daigle, Kacey Musgraves) The first single off the project 'Heart Of Mine' was released July 3rd, 2020, featuring special guest Steve Cropper. To date, Clare's achievements include : ‘Aint your momma' (title of album and song Clare co-wrote with Rhonda Funk) is up for consideration for a GRAMMY nomination 2021 ‘Best Alternative Song' for ‘Carry Me' (World Songwriting Awards, spring 2020) 'Best Pop Song' for 'Heart Of Mine' (World Songwriting Awards, summer 2020) ‘Songwriter of the year' (silver) at the International Singer Songwriter Awards (ISSA)‘Folk Americana artist of the Year' (Josie awards 2020) ‘Folk Americana song of the year for ‘Angel of the Emerald Isle (Josie awards 2020)

Do you struggle to get medical professionals to listen to you? Are you looking for ideas about what you could implement in your community to help caregivers? Do you know why Scotland is leading the charge on FASD in the United Kingdom? If you want to know the answers to these questions, you are going to want to tune into today's podcast with Aliy Brown. Aliy holds a BA (Hon) in Social Policy from Newcastle University. Currently, she is the Project Manager for FASD Hub Scotland, a support service run by Adoption UK Scotland for all parents and carers across Scotland who are parenting individuals with FASD and the networks and professionals who support these families. Aliy and her husband are parents and home educators to three children who are adopted, one with an FASD diagnosis. Aliy is passionate about raising awareness of FASD, breaking down the barriers for parents/carers, and empowering all those who have an interest in FASD, whether that is professional or personal, to work together for the good of those with FASD.  Aliy and her team have a lot going on in Scotland to help not only adoptive parents but especially parents and caregivers of children with FASD. Aliy is an interesting juxtaposition between a super nice individual and someone not to mess with. Her journey to get a diagnosis took two years. She says: We were convinced there was prenatal alcohol exposure and it was FASD. But people weren't on board with that. We had to fight. Our GP was like, “here are some parents who aren't happy with their child.” Does that sound familiar? We talk about how that prompted her to “take the bull by the horns” to get a diagnosis and how you can do that, as well as: How her background prepared her to raise and advocate for individuals with prenatal alcohol exposure. Why she feels like she has to, and what it feels like to continually prove herself as a parent. When the FASD Hub Scotland was started, and its evolution to leading the way in FASD services and support. We also talk about the importance of partners being on the same page and why connecting with others and self-care is critical. I love how she reflected that all she has gone through has led her to where she is today and how her boss inspired her and her team to “go for greatness” to continue and expand their network. Show Notes: Email: fasdhub.scotland@adoptionuk.org.uk Facebook: FASD Hub Scotland FASD Helpline: 0300 666 0006 - select option 2 for FASD Hub Scotland. ABSTRACT Conventional wisdom suggests that the routing of container traffic routing via West Coast ports is highly sensitive to transportation and transit time differentials. This belief played a major role in the initiation and the conclusions of the recent Federal Maritime Commission inquiry on the impact of the Harbor Maintenance tax on port competitiveness. This presentation will review the research behind the current conventional wisdom, highlight recent research conducted by Mr. Davies on the impact of macroeconomic variables and inland transportation networks on Canadian and US port competitiveness, and discuss the implications for the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in developing robust strategies for responding to increased competition following the expansion of the Panama Canal. SPEAKER BIO Philip Davies is a transportation economist with over 30 years' experience in market research, freight planning and intercity passenger transportation, including 18 years as a Senior Economist with Transport Canada. After leaving Transport Canada, he served as Senior Consultant for IBI Group and as Vice President of Halcrow Consulting, Inc. Mr Davies is now the Principal of Davies Transportation Consulting, Inc. in Vancouver, BC. Mr. Davies' experience spans the public and private sectors in market analysis, planning and logistics. Recent research has focused on issues related to international container trade and includes projects related to port drayage, assessment of industrial land and intermodal facilities, and studies on competitiveness and environmental initiatives at West Coast ports. He holds an MA in Economics and a BA Hon. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Saskatchewan, and received a CITT Diploma in Transportation Management in 1995. He is a member of the International Trade and Transportation Committee at the Transportation Research Board, National Academy of Sciences, and Vice President of External Affairs for the Canadian Transportation Research Forum.
