TUNE INTO THE TOWN: ASSAULT ON POLICE DURING PARKING DISPUTE IN TORONTO Libby Znaimer is joined by Alex Blumenstein, Co-Founder of The Peak, Toronto City Councillor Brad Bradford for Ward 6 Beaches-East York, and Karen Stintz, a Conservative Party of Canada Candidate for Eglinton-Lawrence, a former Toronto City Councillor and the CEO of Variety Village. It's Thursday - time to talk about all things municipal- and today we have to talk about parking! A bylaw officer and the police officer he called for backup were assaulted by a driver who had just been ticketed for parking in a bike lane - the fine for that offense had just gone up on the first of the month. Then we were treated to that viral video of a cop being called out for parking illegally to get coffee. The only physical part of the argument was the finger that was given... by the cop. Both the head of the Toronto Police Association and Premier Doug Ford think this constitutes harassment. So the question is: if you park illegally to get a cop a coffee, will you get a ticket? TERROR PLOT TARGETING TAYLOR SWIFT CONCERTS IN VIENNA FOILED Libby Znaimer is joined by Phil Gurski, President and CEO of Borealis Threat and Risk Consulting, and a former Senior Strategic Terrorism Analyst at CSIS. Mega popstar Taylor Swift has had to cancel her concerts in Vienna after authorities there foiled a planned terrorist attack on the concert venue and arrested two individuals. Phil reacts to the latest. AIR PASSENGER RIGHTS LAWSUIT AGAINST WESTJET Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Gabor Lukacs, President and Founder of Air Passenger Rights, and John Gradek, a faculty lecturer at McGill University and a former executive with Air Canada. Air Passenger Rights has filed a lawsuit against WestJet over their cap policy when it comes to compensation of hotel and food costs for customers facing flight disruptions, arguing that it is illegal. Meanwhile, Flair Airlines was ordered to compensate two passengers after a B.C. tribunal found it had lied about the reason for the cancellation. The airline said it was a bird strike but there was no evidence of that. Gabor highlights a Transport Canada database here in Canada called CADORS where all kinds of air occurrences like bird strikes are reported. Listen live, weekdays from noon to 1, on Zoomer Radio!

The St. John's Morning Show from CBC Radio Nfld. and Labrador (Highlights)
Living in a coastal community, going boating in the summer is almost inevitable. But summer fun requires summer safety. According to the Lifesaving Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, 40 per cent of drownings in 2023 occurred while boating. Sean Fitzpatrick, the manager of boating safety in St. John's, joined us in studio today to share some tips.
Roy L Hales/ Cortes Currents - On Sunday, June 2nd, a 50 foot vessel sank near the Squirrel Cove dock on Cortes island. "There was quite a lengthy, involved, process with the Coast Guard and Transport Canada. I am very happy to say that the vessel has now been removed and environmental remediation has taken place, but that was quite an exciting event for the Harbour Authority," explained Jenny Hartwick, Harbourmaster for the Harbour Authority Cortes Island (HACI). "I always want to stress this to the community., the 1st thing you do when you see a vessel that you have concerns about either because of an environmental spill or because it looks like it's about to go down or has gone down, is to call the Coast Guard ROC (Regional Operating Centre of the Coast Guard). It is their triage centre, which is based in Victoria. And the number for that is 1 800 889 8852. They provide 24/ 7 coverage. When you call that number, you will reach a live person. That person will collect some information from you. They'll ask for pictures to be sent. They may ask for length of vessel and information about the particular situation. They will craft their response around the information that's provided.” "In this case, when the boat went down the owner happened to be on site and was there immediately." "We actually have our own summer Coast Guard IRB station, the inshore rescue boat (IRB boat) in Cortes Bay. They access the water through the Seattle Yacht Club.” “We were able to get an extremely fast response because there was a very local crew that didn't have far to travel to do the initial assessment. Somebody came by relatively quickly, and the decision was made to boom the vessel.” "The Coast Guard made the decision to act on that vessel immediately because of the size of the vessel and the potential for hydrocarbon pollution and contamination." Cortes Currents: Have there been occasions when the Coast Guard didn't respond quickly. I'm thinking of the derelict boats at Squirrel Cove a couple of years ago. Jenny Hartwick: "A couple of years ago, anyone who's familiar with the Squirrel Cove Dock would have noticed that there were 3 derelict boats which sat on shore for a significant amount of time.” "Like I said, the very first step in the process is always to call the regional operating center, the Coast Guard ROC will always respond to every call. It may not be an immediate physical response, but they will always evaluate every phone call that comes in. In the case of the boats sitting on the shore in Squirrel Cove, they physically visited those vessels. They removed any potential hydrocarbons. So they felt that there were no immediate concerns of environmental damage and at that point in time, those vessels were triaged and handed over to Transport Canada.” "The unfortunate situation is that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of derelict vessels on the BC coast. When a boat gets added to the Transport Canada inventory, It's added to that list, but there's no guarantee that it's going to end up at the top of that list. It can take significant time for a boat that ends up on that side of the program to work its way to the top where we finally see some action.” Cortes Currents: What's the Harbor Authorities role in this kind of situation. Jenny Hartwick: "One of the really important things to note is that the Harbor Authority's jurisdiction is extremely small and is limited only to a very small water area surrounding the docks themselves. The minute a vessel leaves the dock and gets outside of that lease area, we, as a Harbour Authority, lose our ability to act on it. Those boats were sitting outside of our water lot and we no longer had the ability to use our legal and environmental programs to act on them."

However, due to commercial whaling in the late 1800s and 1900s, the population plummeted to as low as 100 to 200 whales. After the ban on commercial whaling in 1935, the population slowly began to recover, but it faced new challenges with industrialization, increased shipping, and fishing activities. Recent years have shown a leveling off in the North Atlantic right whale population, indicating a potential stabilization after a period of steep decline. In a particular summer, 19 calves were born, offering hope for the species. This positive development is especially significant considering there were years with very low calf numbers or even no calves born at all. The fact that 15 calves were presumed alive from the previous summer's births is a promising sign for the future of the population. The increase in calf births and the stabilization of the population suggest that conservation efforts and management strategies, such as mandatory slowdowns in shipping lanes and ropeless gear initiatives, may be starting to have a positive impact. These measures, along with the strengthening of regulations under the Fisheries Act, have contributed to creating a more favorable environment for the North Atlantic right whales to thrive. While challenges like ship strikes, entanglement in fishing gear, and the impacts of climate change still exist, the recent trends in the North Atlantic right whale population offer hope for the species' future. Continued efforts to protect and conserve these whales are crucial to ensure their long-term survival and recovery. In a podcast episode, Kim Elmsley, the campaign director for Oceana Canada, discussed ongoing efforts to protect North Atlantic right whales from ship strikes and entanglements. Each year, measures are announced for both fishing and shipping as part of an annual management strategy. These measures include mandatory speed reductions in certain areas of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, where the whales are known to frequent. Additionally, there are seasonal areas with mandatory speed reductions at the beginning and end of the year when the whales are entering or leaving the region. One significant development is the consideration of more permanent regulations by Transport Canada. They are looking at establishing a more stable structure for measures like mandatory speed reductions, rather than announcing them annually. This move aims to provide a consistent framework for protecting the whales from ship strikes. The government plans to initiate a consultation process to gather feedback and input from stakeholders and the public before finalizing these regulations. Advancements in the fishing industry regarding ropeless gear strategies have also been made. The Fisheries Act regulations have been modified to allow for a larger commercial use of ropeless gear. This technology aims to reduce the risk of entanglement for marine mammals, including North Atlantic right whales. By transitioning to ropeless gear, fishermen can deploy their traps without the need for traditional end lines that pose entanglement risks to whales. These regulatory changes demonstrate a proactive approach to addressing the threats posed by fishing gear entanglements to the endangered whale population. Overall, the efforts to implement more permanent regulations, such as mandatory speed reductions and the adoption of ropeless gear strategies, reflect a commitment to long-term conservation and protection of North Atlantic right whales from ship strikes and entanglements. These regulatory measures, coupled with ongoing research and stakeholder engagement, are crucial steps towards ensuring the survival and recovery of this critically endangered species. The government is taking steps to implement long-term solutions and regulations to address the threats faced by North Atlantic right whales. This includes changes in fishing gear regulations and whale watching practices. The Fisheries Act, which was restructured about five years ago, has played a role in strengthening regulations related to marine mammals. The act has been instrumental in funding initiatives aimed at protecting marine mammals, including North Atlantic right whales. Additionally, the regulations under the Fisheries Act have been modified to address specific issues such as entanglement of whales in fishing gear. For example, the requirement for end lines on trap lines, which are a common cause of entanglement, has been adjusted to allow for the use of ropeless gear. This change in regulations has paved the way for a larger commercial level of ropeless gear to be used, offering a potential solution to reduce entanglement risks for the whales. Furthermore, the government has also made adjustments to regulations concerning whale watching practices. These regulations dictate how closely vessels can approach whales, especially endangered species like North Atlantic right whales. By extending the distance at which vessels can approach whales, the government aims to minimize disturbances to these vulnerable marine mammals. These regulatory changes demonstrate the government's commitment to protecting North Atlantic right whales and ensuring their long-term survival. The ongoing efforts to implement these regulations and long-term solutions highlight the importance of proactive conservation measures to safeguard the population of these critically endangered whales.

After a wet winter and a rainy spring, many of us are enjoying the somewhat warmer temperatures, heading into summer. Boaters are taking advantage of this, too. But being on the water comes with risks. Boating-related fatalities still make up a big chunk of water-related deaths in Canada each year. This is Safe Boating Awareness Week, and Transport Canada is reminds people to always keep safety in mind. The CBC's Hillary Johnson spoke with their boating safety officer, Melissa McGrath.

Whether you received a drone as a gift or are considering gifting one, this episode provides essential tips and regulatory guidelines applicable globally. Key Points: Understanding Aviation Authorities: Each country has its own aviation authority (e.g., FAA in the USA). It's crucial to be aware of the specific drone regulations in your country. Drone Registration Requirements: Check if your drone needs to be registered based on its weight. In the USA, registration is required for drones over 250 grams and under 55 pounds. Knowing the Flying Rules: Be aware of airspace regulations and the presence of manned aircraft. Understand and follow rules about flying near airports, populated areas, and events like stadium gatherings. License or Certificate Requirements: Many countries require a certificate even for recreational flying. Commercial operations generally need a more advanced certificate. Utilizing Aviation Authority Resources: Visit your country's aviation authority website for detailed information. Some resources mentioned: FAA (USA), Transport Canada, EASA (Europe), CASA (Australia). Joining a Drone Pilot Community: Consider joining relevant online groups like the "Business Strategies for Drone Pilots" Facebook group. These communities offer support for starting a business, career advice, and networking opportunities. Episode Conclusion: Heather wraps up by emphasizing the importance of safety and compliance in the drone community. The episode encourages sharing these insights with others who might find them helpful. How can Canadian real estate investors build wealth in an expensive housing market? Natalie Cloutier joins the Passive Wealth Strategy podcast to discuss how she and her husband have built over 30 rental properties from the ground up in Canada's hot housing market. They use a "build-to-hold" strategy, constructing new small multifamily buildings with sweat equity and zero money down loans. On today's show, Greg will discuss issues revolving around pilot health, Transport Canada's changes to the medical requirements for pilots and the importance of standing up for one's convictions. GUEST OVERVIEW: Greg Hill is the Founder and Co-Director of Free to Fly. The best way to protect whales is to keep ships and other human activities away from them, but we have to know where they are in order to avoid them. Traditionally this has meant watching for whales from the surface, which is time consuming and ineffective especially for deep diving species of whales. The solution may be to use another sense: sound rather than sight. The same acoustic detection techniques developed to detect the submarines are now being used to listen underwater for unique whale calls. Scientists and researchers with the Department of National Defence's science and technology organization, Defence Research and Development Canada, are working with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Transport Canada, Dalhousie University and industry partners in this collaborative effort to protect whales. The goal is to use the underwater sound data in an app with a simple interface that will alert red or green on areas to avoid on a map in order to protect whales. This project has received permitting from DFO and Government of Nunavut along with obtaining animal ethics approval from Dalhousie. Transport Canada has announced 10 measures to protect the critically endangered southern resident orcas off the British Columbia coast, including mandatory speed zones in two areas near Swiftsure Bank, fishing closures, and interim sanctuary zones. Commercial and recreational salmon fishing will be banned this summer and fall throughout the waters of the southern Gulf Islands. From now until May 31, 2024, vessels are required to stay at least 400 meters away from all orcas in southern B.C. coastal waters. However, cetacean researcher and senior research scientist with the Raincoast Conservation Foundation, Lance Barrett-Lennard, said the measures need to go much further to help the animals thrive, including much broader fishing restrictions throughout their critical habitat. Government officials also confirmed Canada is dropping the vaccine requirement for people entering the country at the end of the month. Canada, like the United States, requires foreign nationals to be vaccinated when entering the country. No change in the mandate is expected in the U.S. in the near term. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has agreed to let a cabinet order enforcing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements at the border expire Sept. 30. Transport Canada is also removing travel requirements and as of October 1 people won’t have to wear masks on trains and planes. He averaged 17.4 points to lead all rookies, ranked second among first-year players with 5.6 assists a game and grabbed 5.5 rebounds after overcoming an ankle injury that slowed the start of his career. He and the rest of the Pistons are back for camp, eager to improve on last year’s finish. NBA – Bulls set sights higher, look to build on run to playoffs The Chicago Bulls have their sights set higher after making the playoffs for the first time since 2017. They led the Eastern Conference for a big portion of the season with DeMar DeRozan playing at an MVP level. The Bulls were knocked out in the first round by Milwaukee. Chicago returns with its core group of players intact. The Bulls will be without point guard Lonzo Ball for at least 4-6 weeks after left knee surgery. NBA – Turner heads into another season with Pacers, trade talk Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner has grown accustomed to the trade talk. He saw two-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis and Caris LeVert dealt away in February. He saw guard Malcolm Brogdon sent to Boston over the summer. So it’s no surprise to Turner that he’s at the center of trade rumors yet again as the longest-tenured Pacers player enters the final season of his contract. But Turner doesn’t seem to mind. For now, the 26-year-old still suits up for the team that drafted him and as long he stays in town, Turner intends to play winning basketball. NCAAFB – Texas Tech fined for field storming when Texas player shoved Texas Tech was fined $50,000 and reprimanded by the Big 12 Conference because fans stormed the field following an overtime victory against rival Texas. A video of the celebration shows one of those fans shoving a Longhorns player. Texas Tech posted on social media a still shot from the video asking for help in identifying that fan. Texas senior edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo was shoved from behind by one fan running onto the field Saturday after the Red Raiders won 37-34. Collins was dumped two days after a 27-10 loss to Central Florida left him with a record of 10-28. Collins finished his tenure with a winning percentage of just .263 — the lowest of 13 full-time coaches in the school’s history. Georgia Tech also fired athletic director Todd Stansbury. NASCAR – AP Exclusive: Jimmie Johnson to retire from full-time racing Seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson tells The Associated Press that he is retiring from full-time racing and will turn his focus toward spending time with family. He figures his future schedule will include no more than 10 bucket-list events. The 47-year-old says he has no idea what his racing schedule will look like, or whether he’ll run any IndyCar races next season. He wants to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans with NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports, and has interest in “The Double” of the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. But he also wants to travel with his family and perhaps spend a year living abroad. Freelance columnist, Rupa Subramanya joins Alex to talk about her piece detailing how Transport Canada tried to find a reason for restricting unvaccinated travelers.
Chris Hobbs talks with Elecia about safety critical systems. Safety-critical systems keep humans alive. Writing software for these embedded systems carries a heavy responsibility. Engineers need to understand how to make code fail safely and how to reduce risks through good design and careful development. The book discussed was Embedded Software Development for Safety-Critical Systems by Chris Hobbs. This discussion was originally for Classpert (where Elecia is teaching her Making Embedded Systems course) and the video is on Classpert's YouTube if you want to see faces. There were many terms with letters and numbers, here is a guide: IEC 61508: Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety-related Systems; relates to industrial systems and forms the foundation for many other standards ISO 26262: Road vehicles - Functional Safety; extends and specializes IEC 61508 for systems within cards IEC 62304 specifies life cycle requirements for the development of medical software and software within medical devices. It has been adopted as national standards and therefore can be used as a benchmark to comply with regulatory requirements. MISRA C: a set of software development guidelines for the C programming language DO178-C and DO178-B: Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification are the primary documents by which the certification authorities such as FAA, EASA and Transport Canada approve all commercial software-based aerospace systems ISO/IEC 29119: Software and systems engineering -- Software testing ISO 14971:2019 Medical devices — Application of risk management to medical devices IEC 62304:2006 Medical device software — Software life cycle processes Transcript

THE THESIS: The leftists are utterly destroying themselves with sex and control obsessions and vile blasphemy. God is readying a great time of harvest of new Christians. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Matthew 5:27-28 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.' 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 19:1-12 What Jesus Taught about Marriage and Divorce 19 When Jesus had finished talking, He went from the country of Galilee. He came to the part of the country of Judea which is on the other side of the Jordan River. 2 Many people followed Him and He healed them there. 3 The proud religious law-keepers came to Jesus. They tried to trap Him by saying, “Does the Law say a man can divorce his wife for any reason?” 4 He said to them, “Have you not read that He Who made them in the first place made them man and woman? 5 It says, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will live with his wife. The two will become one.' 6 So they are no longer two but one. Let no man divide what God has put together.” 7 The proud religious law-keepers said to Jesus, “Then why did the Law of Moses allow a man to divorce his wife if he put it down in writing and gave it to her?” 8 Jesus said to them, “Because of your hard hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives. It was not like that from the beginning. 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sex sins, and marries another, is guilty of sex sins in marriage. Whoever marries her that is divorced is guilty of sex sins in marriage.” 10 His followers said to Him, “If that is the way of a man with his wife, it is better not to be married.” 11 But Jesus said to them, “Not all men are able to do this, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are some men who from birth will never be able to have children. There are some men who have been made so by men. There are some men who have had themselves made that way because of the holy nation of heaven. The one who is able to do this, let him do it.” Matthew 18:5-7 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. 6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! THE NEWS & COMMENT: [AUDIO] - Biden refuses to take questions as his staff SCREAMS in desperation for reporters to leave Biden's presence [AUDIO] - BREAKING: Chief Bush-Cheney advisor: "If Jesus Christ was alive today, he would be called a groomer" The Biden administration says transgender kids are entitled to "gender-affirming" medical care. These girls disagree. "I have this intense rage in me over the harm that was done to me." Powerful, heartbreaking story by @SnoozyWeiss [AUDIO] - MSNBC's Symone Sanders: "My money is on the Disney lobbyists, honey." [AUDIO] - Psaki says that Biden will appeal the mask mandate ruling to "preserve that authority for the CDC to have in the future." [AUDIO] - MSNBC's Dr Patel: Carry extra masks on planes & force your neighbor to wear one [AUDIO] - WA Dept Health: Regardless of age or health status, you can be affected by COVID-19 while infected or afterwards. Stay up to date on your vaccine doses and keep up with masks and handwashing. Talk to your trusted health care providers. Another Moderna booster trial, another death [AUDIO] - American Airlines Captain Bob Snow, coerced to vax (jab or job), suffered a heart attack 6 mins after landing in Dallas, April 9th. He speaks out. All Canadian airline pilots were coerced exactly the same. Contact Cdn Airline execs & Transport Canada if you have concerns. THE LISTENERS: Jim: I was just listening to Your show where you basically said you think God put Biden in office and God put Trump in office last time. So are you saying God influences people how to vote, forces people to vote a certain way or stuffs the ballot boxes? --- --- --- --- Tim At this point in time I would vote for DeSantis for the following reasons: Trump was great on economy but ineffective at taking on the deep state. He was vocal but ineffective. I can live with his rhetoric but he should have by now, backed off his bragging about warpspeed and admit he was mislead. I voted for him twice but not his family which in my opinion helped torpedo efforts to gut the swamp. Cleaning up the DOJ is a must as is the CIA. DeSantis, I think would have the best chance at getting it done. --- --- --- --- Paul Most taxes are immoral. Taxing people based on beliefs or because they moved into your state is more so. Others being immoral doesn't make it OK for us to do the same things. You are terribly judgmental toward politicians like DeSantis. If they don't win elections they won't be able to do anything. We don't live in a theocracy, and this is not a Christian nation. Beating their chest about Christian beliefs, instead of common sense, moral values is just going to lose elections.
