Hour 2 features a conversation about the chaos of NFL media rights and how fans now need multiple streaming platforms just to watch their teams, while agreeing the league's popularity means people will tune in no matter what. The focus then shifts to whether the Miami Dolphins should trade De'Von Achane, with debate over letting him play out his deal, earning contracts, and whether he'd want to stay through a rebuild. The crew also wonders if it's safe to buy a current Dolphins jersey before reminiscing about classics from Dan Marino, Jason Taylor, and Zach Thomas, and they wrap by highlighting the major sporting events headed to South Florida.
Hour 4 kicks off with a look at the Dolphins' quarterback situation, noting that cutting Tua before June 1st is nearly impossible and that the team will likely keep him at least until then. NFL insider Mike Florio joins to weigh in on Tua's future, why his original contract was a risky move, and the slim chance of a trade versus keeping him on the roster. The conversation also covers Malik Willis, with Florio suggesting a “prove-it” one-year deal before chasing a bigger contract, and dives into the broader NFL QB market. Finally, Florio shares his thoughts on Tyreek Hill, expressing surprise at the lack of immediate interest and predicting his market will heat up after the draft, while the guys also touch on the recently passed Teddy Bridgewater Act.

The conversation continues with analysis of the NFL media landscape and the chaos of streaming rights, followed by debate over whether the Dolphins should trade De'Von Achane and what that could mean for his future. Omar reacts to the latest Miami Dolphins moves, explaining why the release of James Daniels was the only decision that truly surprised him financially, and dives into the complicated outlook for Tua Tagovailoa, noting a post–June 1st move may be key even as the situation drags out. The show also features a conversation with Jeff Darlington. The guys discuss the Los Angeles Chargers hiring Adam Gase and Mike McDaniel, with Omar believing the offensive minds could mesh well despite McDaniel still being paid by Miami.
Hour 3 includes Alain Poupart joining to break down the biggest offseason decisions facing the Miami Dolphins, including the complicated future of Tua Tagovailoa and what a potential release could look like. Poupart also weighs in on De'Von Achane's value, explaining why he's cautious about long-term deals for running backs while still believing Miami shouldn't trade him, stressing the importance of not overcommitting to good players. The conversation shifts to the quarterback market as a whole, including whether Malik Willis could be a fit in Miami and what his contract might look like. Plus, the guys lighten things up by previewing Dan Day's Friday night DJ set at Duffy's and highlight a packed South Florida sports weekend with F1 returning to Miami, Canes hoops and baseball, the Heat back from the break, and plenty more action across the sports landscape.
Alain Poupart joins the show to break down the biggest offseason questions facing the Miami Dolphins, starting with the complicated future of Tua Tagovailoa and what a potential release would mean financially and competitively. Poupart also weighs in on the decision surrounding De'Von Achane, explaining why he's hesitant to give long-term deals to running backs while still believing Miami shouldn't move on from Achane. The conversation centers on the importance of not overcommitting to good players, before shifting to whether Malik Willis could be a fit in Miami and what his contract might look like. Poupart and Omar wrap up with a broader look at the quarterback market and how it could shape the Dolphins' next move under center.
NFL insider Mike Florio joins to break down the Dolphins' quarterback situation, weighing in on Tua Tagovailoa's future and why his original contract was a questionable decision. He discusses the slim chance of a trade versus keeping Tua on the roster and shares his take on Malik Willis, suggesting a “prove-it” one-year deal before chasing a bigger contract. Florio also breaks down the broader QB market and weighs in on Tyreek Hill, noting surprise at the lack of immediate interest and predicting his market will heat up after the NFL Draft.
The guys debate whether the Miami Dolphins should consider trading De'Von Achane, questioning how the team should handle his future as he approaches the end of his rookie deal. Omar suggests the smarter path may be letting Achane play out the final year of his contract before potentially using the franchise tag, stressing the need for players to earn big paydays. The conversation also touches on Miami's lack of true open competition at quarterback and whether Achane would even want to stick around through a rebuild during his prime years.
Omar Kelly shares a story about getting catfished on a dating app by someone using AI before diving into the latest Miami Dolphins roster moves. Omar explains why the release of James Daniels caught him off guard, noting the financial downside for Miami, and then breaks down the complicated situation surrounding Tua Tagovailoa. He details why a post–June 1st decision could be key, why the resolution may take time, and how the numbers could ultimately make keeping Tua the most realistic path.
Hollywood and Omar dive into the ever-changing world of NFL media rights, venting about how fans now need multiple streaming platforms just to keep up with every game. The guys agree the viewing experience has become overly complicated, but acknowledge the league's unmatched popularity means fans will still go wherever the games are. It's a conversation on convenience, business, and the reality that NFL football continues to dominate no matter where it's broadcast.

A Note for TP&R Listeners From time to time, it helps to talk about something other than politics in order to understand politics. Sports is one of the last shared civic spaces where identity, loyalty, disagreement, trash talk, and even tribalism can play out without destroying relationships. In other words, many of the same human instincts we explore on Talkin' Politics & Religion Without Killin' Each Other show up in a baseball season just as clearly as they do in an election season. So today's episode comes from another show in the SCAN Media family, East Meets West Sports, co-hosted with veteran broadcaster Rick Garcia. Same curiosity about why people care so deeply about what they care about. Just with box scores instead of polling numbers. If it's your thing, great. If not, regular TP&R programming resumes next episode. Talkin' Politics & Religion Without Killin' Each Other is proud to be part of The Democracy Group, a network of podcasts examining what is broken in our democracy and how we can work together to fix it. And thank you to Pew Research Center (pewresearch.org) for helping make conversations like this possible. East Meets West Sports with Rick Garcia and Corey Nathan Rick Garcia and Corey Nathan kick off baseball season with a deep dive into the offseason moves that have everyone talking and at least one list that has Corey fuming about West Coast bias. They break down the Dodgers' superteam additions of Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker, the Mets' stacked roster and farm system, and why teams like Pittsburgh can scout great talent but can't hold onto it. They also get into the salary cap debate, Steve Cohen's "no captain" declaration, and whether meddling owners ever really help their teams. And in Pop That Culture, they tackle the biggest controversy heading into the Winter Olympics: Norway's ski jumping suits, a crotch-area aerodynamics scandal that has to be heard to be believed. Find Us On Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube Follow Rick Garcia: @RickGarciaNews on X (Twitter) Follow Corey Nathan: @coreysnathan on Substack, Threads, Instagram, X & more Key Takeaways 1. The Dodgers Just Keep Getting Better Yahoo Sports graded the Dodgers' offseason an A+, and it's hard to argue. Adding Edwin Diaz from the Mets and Kyle Tucker as a free agent gives them arguably the deepest roster in the game (even if Tucker now ranks as maybe the seventh-best player on his own team). 2. Corey Is Very Excited About the Mets (No Surprise There) Two surefire Hall of Famers in Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto, a legit ace in Freddie Peralta, a deep rotation, improved defense up the middle, and a top-five farm system, even after trading prospects. Rookie of the Year candidate Nolan McLean headlines a wave of young talent coming up. Corey believes. Rick is... skeptical. 3. The "Most Improved" List Has a West Coast Bias Problem A MLB.com ranking of teams that improved most this offseason had the Giants and Rockies ahead of the Mets. The Rockies! Corey had thoughts. Many thoughts. The list is based on "projected WAR," which only raises more questions. 4. Small-Market Teams Are Wasting Their Advantages Pittsburgh has one of the best farm systems in baseball, including the top overall prospect, but keeps developing players for wealthier teams to sign away. Rick and Corey agree the game needs a salary floor, not just a luxury tax, to force lower-payroll owners to actually invest in their teams. 5. Steve Cohen Says No Captains, Ever The Mets owner drew headlines by declaring there will never be a team captain while he owns the club. Rick's take: that's exactly the kind of call owners shouldn't be making. Corey's take: Cohen is actually a good owner who trusts his front office. And Lindor leads whether he has a C on his jersey or not. 6. CrotchGate Comes to the Winter Olympics Norway's ski jumping team has been caught altering the crotch area of its suits to gain an aerodynamic edge. The physics actually make sense. A roomier suit creates lift during the V-position jump. Some athletes allegedly went further than just tailoring. Rick and Corey debate whether this is innovative gamesmanship or just cheating. There is only one correct answer. Or maybe two. The season starts. The arguments never do.

Rumors continue to swirl as the guys discuss the possibility of Minkah Fitzpatrick being moved and what the future could hold for key playmakers like Waddle and Achane, including Miami reportedly turning down a trade offer for Waddle from Buffalo at the trade deadline. With the Dolphins Cancer Challenge around the corner, Joe also takes time to promote the event before shifting back to football and the uncertainty of free agency, where overspending remains a real concern. The conversation then turns to Malik Willis — the new GM and head coach know him well from their Green Bay days, but while the flashes are intriguing, the limited tape raises questions about whether he can truly be a franchise answer
The guys debate what lies ahead for Tua. They discuss how Tua's limitations make it tough for him to simply step in as a backup, noting that offenses often need a tailored game plan to fit his strengths. A key moment from last season — taking a sack instead of giving a receiver a chance in the end zone — sparks conversation about arm strength concerns, while durability remains a major question mark. All of it leads to the bigger debate: will Tua get another real opportunity somewhere else in the league?
Hour 2 begins with draft talk as the guys discuss how top prospects get picked apart this time of year, with Joe standing firm that Mendoza has what it takes to be a successful NFL quarterback and questioning what more evaluators need to see after strong performances against Miami's defense in the National Champioship. The conversation also highlights how Mesidor and Reuben Bain elevated their play during the playoff run. Hurricanes baseball head coach JD Arteaga then joins to break down the team's hot start, praising the freshman class, overall roster depth, and navigating the NIL and transfer portal era while previewing a big series against Florida. The hour wraps with Hollywood's Headlines featuring All-Star Weekend reactions, a Kevin Durant legacy debate, a bizarre airport arrest story, and discussion of a proposed Florida bill aimed at helping high school athletes named after Teddy Bridgewater.
Hour 1 includes conversation about Team USA's thrilling overtime win over Sweden in yesterday's quarterfinal matchup as the US gets ready to face Slovakia in the semifinals tomorrow. Then the conversation shifts towards the Miami Dolphins, and their offseason decisions including whether or not Minkah Fitzpatrick will/should be traded and if Tua will get another shot in the NFL as a starter or a backup.
Hollywood's Headlines kicks off with Kim Bokamper joining the show to share his thoughts on NBA All-Star Weekend, including controversy surrounding Kevin Durant and his burner tweets. The guys debate Durant's legacy and react to the idea of the NBA potentially adding a 1-on-1 tournament, while Bokamper argues the All-Star Game doesn't reflect the intensity of the regular season. In the lighter news, the crew reacts to a bizarre airport story involving a woman arrested after leaving her dog tied to a ticket counter, and they discuss a proposed Florida Senate bill dubbed the Teddy Bridgewater Law aimed at allowing high school coaches to help students financially.
Hour 3 kicks off with Canes basketball head coach Jai Lucas joining to discuss the team's hot stretch. Lucas breaks down how Miami has found ways to win in different ways, the incredible turnaround after a tough season last year, and his approach to coaching—pushing players hard while adjusting for different personalities. The conversation shifts to the Dolphins, including the release of four players and the possibility of trading Waddle or Minkah Fitzpatrick. Later, Jeff Darlington joins to share his experience covering Wimbledon and weigh in on Mike McDaniel's decision to take the Chargers OC job instead of a struggling head coaching gig, offering insight into what went wrong in Miami and the differences between coordinating and leading as a head coach.Joe, Bo, and Darlington also get into a discussion about Tua Tagovailoa.
In hour 4 Joe and Bokamper reflect on Mike McDaniel's leadership style, comparing/contrasting him to legends like Don Shula and sharing classic 80s stories, including Mark Clayton pushing back on Shula and Jimmy Johnson benching Michael Irvin. They discuss how much expectations and professionalism have changed over the years, then shift to the Dolphins, weighing the possibility of Malik Willis landing in Miami. The conversation also covers Tua's future, including a 90% chance he's gone next season, and explores other QB options like Quinn Ewers while noting Zach Wilson has seemingly disappeared from the conversation. Plus, they touch on how coaching staffs have expanded and even joke about whether college students should start majoring in football specifically.
Thursday's show is packed with sports talk across the board. The guys kick things off with Team USA's thrilling overtime win over Sweden in men's hockey and look ahead to a potential gold medal matchup with Canada. The conversation then shifts to the Dolphins' offseason, covering Minkah Fitzpatrick trade rumors, the futures of Waddle and Achane, and whether Malik Willis could be the franchise QB, all while Joe promotes the upcoming Dolphins Cancer Challenge. Hurricanes baseball and basketball are also in the mix, with JD Arteaga and Jai Lucas breaking down hot starts, roster depth, and the importance of staying focused game-to-game. Plus, Hollywood's Headlines weighs in on NBA All-Star Weekend, Kevin Durant's legacy, and some wild news stories from around the sports world.
