Byrd, Matt, Tom and Kevin take a deep dive (no pun intended) into Shinpei Hayashiya's indie Deep Sea Monster trilogy!  These low budget kaiju films include Reigo: The Deep-Sea Monster vs. the Battleship Yamato (2008), Deep Sea Monster Raiga (2009), and the new God Raiga vs King Ohga (2020) and were from the director of the famed elusive Gamera 4 fan film.  Thanks to SRS Cinema, these films are available in the United States for the very first time.  We will take a look at all three films as well as discuss Hayashiya's day job as a Rakugo performer, his early Godzilla and Gamera fan films, the historical references in Reigo, what we would like out of a fourth entry, and much more!  So how do these micro budget kaiju flicks fare?  Listen and find out!

After the thrills of the weekend release of Godzilla King of the Monsters, we at the Leftover Army Monsters are taking it a little easy this week. So instead of jumping back into a big movie, we are covering a small independent, and VERY hard to find, movie called Deep Sea Monster Reigo vs Battleship Yamato. The title is almost as long as the movie! The indie kaiju scene of the 2000's is quite the diverse landscape. But is this movie one of the better ones? Our two-parter on doomed Battleships comes to a close as we retell the fate of the Japanese Imperial Battleship Yamato. The single largest battleship ever built, this absolute monster boasted 18 inch guns and 57,000 fully loaded tons of superweapon. In the last months of the war, she sallied forth on a suicide mission to repel the US forces from Okinawa. Essentially, the only role she could play was as a Kamikaze battleship, choosing to go down fighting to save face at all costs, a fitting fate considering the apocalyptic nature of the war's end. David Brown, a friend from Charlotte, North Carolina, joins Tales from the Fandom for its 17th episode. We start off with how we met each other through Dungeons and Dragons and delve into how he got into roleplaying games as a kid with 1st edition D&D and West End Game Star Wars.  He tells about how a setting for D&D, Eberron, brought him back into gaming and the games he currently plays.
