It's time to return to the Underworld franchise as we dissect the return of Selene, and the disappearance of a major character. @oldmanbradpod joins us once again for more Underworld chaos, and to help us determine if this sequel was worth it. With more vampires vs. werewolves action, does this sequel help this franchise stay on a consistent track, or falter like most long running franchises do at this point. Kate Beckinsale is back in the driver seat, along with some new covens, new lycans and a twist you might see coming. Underworld: Awakening just awakened these boys to all the possibilities of the Underworld franchise! What if instead of Micheal there was a new hot guy? What if instead of Bill Neigh, there was a DIFFERENT older British vampire? What if they actually started entering the real world? What if a PANDEMIC happened and humans got really involved in the lycan and vampire wars? All of these changes make for a different Underworld movie!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-content
Six years after putting Underworld on ice, Kate Beckinsale is slipping on a leather catsuit and Awakening to the joy of blasting more werewolves. But how will Selene adapt to a future where humans are now the Death Dealers, driving both Lycans and vampires into hiding? And has eternal love Scott Speedman gone missing because he's a captive of the evil Antigen Corporation… or because he's ducking out on raising their homicidal offspring Eve? We're back with some prime Underworld nonsense! It's our Underworld: Awakening (2012, dir. Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein) episode, in which Leah and Bri actually confess to missing having Scott Speedman in this franchise. (We know, we know.) As always when we're baffled by a bad film, there's more swearing than usual in this episode. **If you are mad we skipped Rise of the Lycans on the main pod, stay tuned to the Ko-fi. This week The Horses slow their roll, and also make their roll a lot more washed out and visually muddy and they also make it way more boring and get rid of a lot of the elements that made their past three rolls kind of exciting or cool. This roll is a lot harder to sit through. This is a really uninteresting roll. It's UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING!
You may be wondering, “Do the St. Johns enjoy misery? Is it a preference of theirs to continue to watch and take notes on films that are subpar?” The answer is clearly yes…and thus we continue the journey down the path of vampires and lycans in the penultimate film in this series: “Underworld: Awakening” (or “Underworld: New Blood” if you ask Melissa). As always, we get into the heart of this film by talking about the revivification of a heart, average human heights, the “Paul Bunyan of Lycans”, and…are we clear – crystal. The franchise is lead by a leather-clad Kate Beckinsale as the vampyre warrior Selene, who is part of the centuries-old feud between vampires and werewolves. This war might be coming to a head with the appearance of a man who might be able to unite the two monster clans by becoming a … vampire/werewolf/human hybrid. We're joined in this episode by the brilliant writer, presenter and podcaster Louise Blain, who gives her hilarious take onthe first three films in the franchise. This season is made possible with the support of Arrow Video. By the time the Underworld franchise swung around to the fourth entry, it largely had a new team behind all of it. Sure, Len Wiseman was still on as producer and story and Kate Beckinsale was still leading the charge as Selene the vampire death dealer, but they join new writers, directors, crew, and cast. So how does this new direction for the franchise hold up? Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our Underworld series with Måns Mårlind's and Björn Stein's 2012 film Underworld: Awakening. We talk about the return to this world and debate the creative decisions in how they move the story forward while leaving the look largely locked in from the previous films. We look at what this new cast is doing and how well they work. We ponder the many tropes included in this film. And we debate new elements added to werewolf and vampire lore. It's a bit of a mess of a film, but did we have fun watching it? Yes we did. So check it out then tune in to this week's show. The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins! Happy Friday, creatures of the night! Ry and Chris return to the secret coven bunker to review Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and Underworld: Awakening! Also, we gush over Michael Sheen / Lucian... like, a lot. Can you blame us??? Enjoy! And don't forget... STAY DREADFUL!
It's the second day of the binge session, and Sheldon and Dani are struggling more than Kate Beckinsale is struggling to pretend she's having fun playing Selene anymore. There's a lot to break down in this movie, namely why did they choose to do a flash forward past the far more interesting plot?
The one where Green Blooded Bastard watches Underworld: Awakening. In this movie Kate Beckinsale is wearing tight black clothing again and ready to fuck you or kill you because... Michael! New hybrids!?!?! fml.
Movie Meltdown - Episode 491 This week we continue our coverage from WonderFest as we are joined by our special guest - propmaker Ken Palkow. Now Ken has worked on an amazing list of projects over the years… just to name a few… the last three X-Men films, as well as Dark Phoenix. He has made weapons, gadgets, and props for Skyscraper, Night at the Museum, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Sonic the Hedgehog, Underworld: Awakening, and even the Federation phasers, alien weapons, and medical gadgets for Star Trek into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. And not only did he work on the first Deadpool movie… Ken also created guns, swords, and most impressively Cable’s rifle for Deadpool 2. And on as far as series, you’ve seen his work on Altered Carbon, Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, Continuum, Almost Human, Warehouse 13, The Flash, Arrow… and so much more. And if that weren’t enough for this episode… we are also joined by our semi-annual, reluctant co-host - designer/illustrator Eric Chu. And while we discuss everyone’s love of mac and cheese with apple sauce and ketchup mixed all together, we also cover… Phantom of the Opera, you know what... I'm going to make this thing animatronic... I'm going to put servos in it… I'm going to put lights in it, budget and lead time, adamantine shackles, forming the foundation of creativity, complaining about the spring not working, plastic scissors, Battlestar Galactica, last minute communication, construction paper, James Doohan, stage vs film, fabricating Willem Dafoe, Space: 1999, and keep in mind, I was still doing full-time jobs or part-time jobs… and I did everything, no one is confirming or denying any involvement with the Triads, I mean, whatever it was I could do to make money, Bruce Lee, Legos, concept artist, Star Trek Into Darkness, I render the CAD, destructive non-destructive inspection, is it possible to build this, the lighters essential to building Cable’s rifle, casting resins, I'll take credit for destroying mankind, basically holding a carrot in front of them, Lost in Space, making our Halloween costumes, making connections, crayons, the combination of all the different jobs I'd had over the years, the deadline for that prop be a reality never changes, a poor family, felt, Buck Rogers, eating glue, and an elaborate way to get Ryan Reynolds' autograph. “...there was that creative side. We didn't have - so we made!” And for more on WonderFest, go to: https://wonderfest.com/

Death by Sunshine (Writers Tribe Books) Novelist Allison Burnett (Christopher, The House Beautiful) visits Skylight to read and sign the third and final book in his B. K. Troop series, Death by Sunshine. "Like Truman Capote, Allison Burnett knows how to pull up a chair and whisper a juicy story into his lucky reader's ear. Death By Sunshine is a quickly paced tale inhabited by fascinating and funny creatures." --Nell Scovell, Vanity Fair "In this age when the genuine comic novel seems to be an extinct species, Allison Burnett gives us reason to rejoice. Death By Sunshine is a return trip to the world of B.K. Troop, one of the most appealing characters ever put on a page." --Charles Busch, author of The Tale of the Allergist's Wife and Die, Mommie, Die! "Death by Sunshine is classic Burnett: hilarious, gut-wrenching, and entirely entertaining. He takes us on a journey across the country into the darkest recesses of the human psyche - with a few detours into the excesses of the human flesh along the way. A terrific read!" --Claire LaZebnik, author of Epic Fail and Families and Other Non-Returnable Gifts Allison Burnett's first novel, Christopher, was a finalist for the 2004 PEN Center USA Literary Award in Fiction. His second novel, The House Beautiful, was published in October 2006. His third novel, Undiscovered Gyrl, was published by Vintage Books in October 2009. On this edition of Extra we are looking at the impact of war on many different races. First off I give my comment/rant on the recent staffing changes at the local movie theatre I like to frequent in Lindsay. A group of teenagers fine themselves thrust into a ght they never wanted in the blu-ray revidew of Tomorrow When The War Began (courtesy of eOne Entertainment) in this movie set in the land down under. Then it's off to the supernatural war raging in Mystic Falls in the blu-ray revidew of The Vampire Diaries : The Complete Second Season (courtesy of Warner Home Video) as things heat up for the Salvatore brothers. It is back to tight black outfits and flying bullets with the dvd review of Underworld Awakening (courtesy of Sony Home Video) as Kate Beckinsale returns as the ass kicking vampire Selene. It's a trip to the dark continent with the blu-ray review of The Dead (courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment) as 2 men fight to stay6 alive in a zombie apocalypse in Africa. Music for this episode features the songs The Year Before The War by Eric Maskol, Wide Awake by Duplex Gage and Awake by Introvert, they can all be found at www.famemusic.com. Other instrumental music is by the band Mr. Burns (www.mrburnsmusic.com). As always your comments and suggestions are welcome and encouraged.

As you can tell from the headline, ripped from the podcast itself, absolutely nothing has changed during our little break from podcasting. We have returned as immature and vulgar as ever. Thor and Agent Coulson eagerly await the mcyapandfries podcast to finish downloading, on dial-up As we've been away quite a while, on this week's show we discuss only the very best and most interesting of the movie news that happened during the break, or at least the most interesting news that we can stilll remember after a month or two. We're also playing catch up on the review front, with The Hunger Games, Underworld Awakening, The Descandants, Abduction (!?) and Midnight in Paris all getting reviewed in one form or another on the show. As usual, I'll leave you with the show notes so you can share in the trailers and pics we discussed, as well as with the promise that we should now be back on a regular schedule, providing you with more podcast goodness, more often. Until next time: That amazing Prometheus trailer The slightly different Imax Prometheus trailer Sean Bean in Drag!!? The trailer for Ted from Seth McFarlane The first Trailer for the Colin Farrell remake of Total Recall
The Gay Comic Geek is here! That’s right, Paul – the nerdiest, geekiest, muscliest guy on YouTube – guest starred on our biggest episode yet! He joined Bryan the Barely Bear, Jarrod the Alterna-Guy, Eric the Muscle Pig, Oral the Catty Sick Black Friend, and The Question of Questionable Sexual Practices as they discussed movies, games, comics, and NERD FITNESS?!!? If you’re a nerd who wants to pwn n00bz but also look great, or if you just want to hear what we thought about Star Wars in 3D, then turn us on, strap it on, and get ready to FLAME ON! MegaCon The entire Flame On! crew met up at Orlando MegaCon and had a blast! They caught Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre artist Amanda Conner during the con, but the best times were had afterward. They shared drinks with DC pros and scared away a Star Trek character, but you’ll have to listen to see if they reveal how they pulled that off. Paul went and had a total of six different costumes! He shares some of his stories, but The Question doubts he was sober the entire time… Movies Chronicle is the first found-footage super hero movie and the boys weigh in on what they thought about the movie and the quirky writer Max Landis. We also revisit Tintin (briefly) before giving reviews of Underworld: Awakening and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3D. Also, hear their reactions to the new Amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers trailers! This year is gonna be even more super hero-y than last year! Games Eric and Q discover the wonder of the Uncharted series and think about boinking Drake. At the other end of the galaxy, Bryan and Q are still going at it hard with their light sabers in Star Wars: The Old Republic. TV When you think football, you think Madonna, right? Didn’t think so. But the boys weigh in on her Super Bowl halftime performance and discuss whether the Queen of Pop ought to let someone else take over. There’s also talk about the electrifying new show Justified, which surprisingly doesn’t deal with fonts or style sheets. Paul and Oral make a love connection over Naruto, while Paul shares the rest of his favorites including Big Bang Theory and Archer! Gay News Prop 8 is overturned (again)! Plus some other states allow homos to marry! But Eric is already married, Bryan prefers to hibernate in sin, and Oral and Q are destined to be single forever, so while the news is great, they ultimately are just bitter about it. Music Bryan attended a concert and sipped on some honeyed whiskey while rocking out to Jonathan Coulton and headliners They Might Be Giants. Oral laments the loss of his own…personal…diva Whitney Houston. The Question mentions a favorite indie band of his called Fun has finally punched through to the Top 40 thanks to their hit single “We Are Young” being featured on Glee! Nerd Fitness Paul’s strength is off the charts, and we’re not just talking about that +7 Str modifier on his D&D character. He’s super fit but also loves Superboy as much as the rest of us. He talks about his daily routine, workout diet, and offers some helpful advice to those who want abs as much as they want their own light saber. And, of course, the boys grill Paul on whether he has sex in costume! Comics It was a huge month for indie comics: Archie, Locke and Key, Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand, Saga, Fatale, Thief of Thieves, Aphrodisiac, Prophet, and Phonogram all get some attention! Marvel gets some negative attention with the Ghost Rider Creator Scandal, but their books aren’t so bad with FF, Fantastic Four, the Ultimate Comics titles, and X-Men being as top notch as ever. For DC, Paul schools Q on the Teen Titans and tells us his thoughts on the New 52! The boys also pick apart DC’s new logo, discuss Animal Man’s trippy issue #6, dish on the Green Lantern titles, and more! http://nerdyshow.com/2012/03/flame-on-crossplaying-with-the-gay-comic-geek/Learn more about your ad choices. Alonso's back from Park City, so this slightly tardy episode features his favorite films from the Sundance Film Festival, along with Dave's pick of good and bad action movies with female leads, and a documentary that's almost entirely about breasteses.
I'm trying to think of something witty or at least far from relevant to start this thing off and I'm coming up with nothing...oh well. So you can look forward to some news, the Trailer Spot this week is Resident Evil: Retribution, it was a pretty ok trailer but I think Sony whored itself out during the first half of the trailer. Don't forget the Box Office Report! As for reviews I start things off with Underworld: Awakening and then I have a DVD review of Warrior. And lastly my closing comments again is about Mass Effect 2 because that's the only thing I've done besides work. Enjoy the show! Opening and Closing Song- Blood Sugar by Pendulum
