PENICILLIN, WHISKYCYKLISTER OCH POLSKA MORD. Sen tar vi reda på varför Amrut egentligen är så himla snice. Vad var det i glaset? Scotland's Nc'Nean Distillery is one of a handful of whisky distilleries certified as "B Corp" for their sustainability efforts. At Nc'Nean, that goes all the way to the use of renewable energy for the distillery and using recycled glass for its bottles. We'll talk with founder Annabel Thomas about the challenges of making whisky sustainably and organically on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, the founder of Bimber and Dunphail distilleries has stepped aside following his arrest on two-decade old charges in his native Poland, while Kentucky lawmakers are trying to close loopholes in the state's Vintage Distilled Spirits law.
Raj Sabharwal, founding partner of Glass Revolution Imports, joins Gavin to discuss his journey in the whiskey industry. Raj shares his early experiences with whiskey, including growing up in Canada and drinking Canadian whiskey and Scotch. He also talks about his first taste of Glenfiddich and how it sparked his interest in single malts. Raj then delves into the challenges and successes of launching Amrut single malts in the US market and the growth of the Indian whiskey industry. He also discusses the expansion of Glass Revolution Imports' portfolio to include other world single malts, such as Blackadder and Bimber. Raj reflects on the evolution of the whiskey landscape and the increasing popularity of world single malts. He emphasizes the importance of education and the role of Glass Revolution Imports in introducing and promoting unique and high-quality whiskeys to the US market.

Featuring Matt McKay of Bimber and Dunphail Distilleries aka The Dramble! Mike & Duncan play annoying whisky buzzword bingo, pitch The (imaginary) FunkaFunk bottling company 'Dragon's Den style' and chat with Matt about drams, horror flicks, mezcal, craft beer and folk who take pictures of whisky in trees. We were having a lovely time having a chinwag with Matt, who is super passionate, and so we we talked for longer than expected! The interview and content split naturally into two episodes: part 1 and 2. Lets get ready to Dramble! Bimber is so damn exciting. It just is. Their Bimber Klub sold out in hours, and the Dunphail equivalent is close behind. Founded by Polish husband and wife Dariusz and Ewelina in 2015, this distillery in the City of London is quietly producing some amazing English single malt. Between the liquid itself (the new make is a distillery exclusive but worthy of seeking out) and the various cask finishings, you might not get the cask you're looking for but you'll always find one that's good. My guest, Matt, has multiple titles that still don't encompass the full range of duties he has. This is one that more than anything looks towards the future, of what English, Polish, and Scotch distilling can be. I'll be visiting in London in April. I promise I'll report back! _________________ Before we jump into the interview just a few quick notes: If you haven't joined the Patreon community yet, please consider doing so! Episode 55 is a round-the-world journey with the one and only @whiskyraj, Raj Sabharwal. (It's also the first with our new sponsor, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society!) Raj is one of the nicest, most personable guys you'll ever meet in whisky. I met him at - you guessed it - Travel Bar in Brooklyn, NY, where we tasted through a set of Bimber Whiskies, Rest and Be Thankful Rums, and a pair of Japanese whiskies that had me begging for another ounce. For this podcast, Raj brought four countries' worth of whiskies - two Amruts from India, Waterford from Ireland, Bimber from England, and Mr. Peat and Blackadder Peat Reek from Scotland. Don't be afraid of those last two - peat can be friendly! Waterford shows off local Irish barley in ways not seen before, and Amrut is what I think of as the classic Indian Single Malt flavor profile. It's a thrilling journey and I know you'll enjoy listening along with us as we taste through. Check out my tasting notes on all six pours from Raj below and follow him everywhere @whiskyraj. A quick reminder - no episode next week! I'm traveling to Kentucky and Tennessee and will have lots of content (and samples!) to bring back to you the following week. _________________ Before we jump into the interview just a few quick notes: If you haven't joined the Patreon community yet, please consider doing so! I am joined this week by Houston Comic Superstar, Ali Siddiq and we discuss his mission to change the mindset of the Houston Comedic Fan Mindset. He joins me this week to discuss why he never left Houston when he hit it big and of course, his next comedy special, filmed right here in Houston at the Improv. This week I catch up with a long time friend, Morgan Weber. Founder of Marfa Spirits Company and someone who just released an absolute RARE offering unseen in today's spirits environment. A Sub $50 1 liter 95 proof Sotol. As many may remember I discussed the nonsense happening in the Mexican Spirits category a while back and the criminal behavior by some in this industry taking advantage of the category. It was nice catching up. Love the guy. Whiskey Neat is a Radio show on iTunes and ESPN 97.5 FM in Houston and is brought to you every week by the following sponsors. This week I had the extreme pleasure to talk to Writer and Director John Pollono to discus his new film "Small Engine Repair" which will premiere Nationwide in Movie Theatres on September 10th. As a father of Teenage daughters I was enthralled by the film and just had to speak to him. A really down-to-earth guy who happens to be a father himself. Gather around family as we tell you a heartwarming story. One of Heroes and Villains. This story has everything. A High School Education, High Cholesterol, Haters, and the shortest tiniest attempt at a brand launch you have ever seen. Over the past two weeks, Netflix's "Last Chance U" Coach Jason Brown has completely gone off on someone for simply posting a picture of his product. No insults. No real negative comment was made by the OP. Just simply a picture of a product that he has named "Slapdick: Real Agave Whiskey" Since her post Coach JB has not only unleashed a plethora of sexist, overly graphic, perverse, and hateful comments aimed specifically at her, he has doxed her place of work and encouraged all of his followers to go over to her page and harass her all while accusing her of clout chasing. This archaic and wildly inappropriate behavior is being ridiculed across the Whiskey World and has spawned a wave of support within the Whiskey Community in her direction and led to his distributor dropping him and his products. Today we talk to Chrissy, the victim of his hateful, sexist comments, and break down what actually happened. We are also joined in part by the man who helped break the story and who consequently has the most followers and fans out of anyone else involved, Coach JB included. NATE WOODRUFF. Spoiler alert. This is a clear-cut case and the irony of calling your product Slapdick while acting like a total slapdick is absolutely hilarious. Coach JB elevated this situation and is doing everything possible to burn his own house down while accusing the world of a carefully coordinated competition assassination and clout chasing. Side note. For everyone else besides the elephant in the room, I apologize for my hateful and petty comments. And to Coach JB, Hey man. . . People who clout chase, usually chase someone with clout. That's not you. No one knew you before this and no one will remember anything about you other than your hate-filled and sexist comments and a product pretending to be something it's not. This week we catch up with Todd Grube. He makes his return to the show and we discuss his new job and a peculiar phenomenon in spirits that so few people are aware of. This episode is not an attack at anyone directly but more of just a cathartic discussion over a little-known trend happening in Mexican spirits. This is sure to be polarizing but keep in mind the discussion isn't meant to be an attack on anyone specifically. A cathartic time was had by all. This episode features the hosts tasting a sample of Cask no. 1 from London based distillery, Bimber. Cask No. 1 is an ex-bourbon cask filled on the 26th May 2016. Bimber's process has evolved over time so the equipment involved in creating the first batch of spirit differs from the one currently in place. A piece of modern history is being tasted here - its likes may never be seen again... The hosts also chew the fat surrounding Scotland exiting the Euros (the football championship not the union), English distilleries, Warminster maltings and Whisky writers as we explore this unique dram and the distillery itself. Sit back, relax, grab a dram and enjoy the show. Slàinte. Thank you to the team at Bimber for sending a sample from the first cask ever filled. After having had the first Irish distillery on our show in the last episode, this time it's another “first”: We have got an English whisky distillery for you! And it is not just any English distillery – it is probably the most hyped one – and we're absolutely delighted to present Matt McKay of BIMBER Distillery to you. Of course, there is still no easy travelling (especially to the UK) and therefore it is another online recording. Matt is head of marketing and communications for BIMBER Distillery, however, his job description includes much more than the title might suggest. Tune in to let Matt and us take you on a tour to London to get to know more about BIMBER's Single Malt London Whisky and, of course, about Matt and his take on English whisky, his ideas about collecting whisky, his affection for craft beer, and so much more!
