Jeremy and Matt are back to take a look at what have been for the UNLV and San Jose State's football season. These were the two teams we did not get to before the Mountain West decided cancel the fall season. We go through each team and what could have been by going through the rosters of each team. A big takeaway was that San Jose State has things going in the right direction and could have caused some noise in 2020. UNLV would under a new head coach has a lot to work on, especially a defense that has given up over 30 points per game for basically forever. We start the show discussing some news with New Mexico which is being sued by the family of Nahje Flowers who took his own life and the lawsuit alleges that head coach Bob Davie overruled doctors that said Flowers should not be playing but was forced to anyways. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mwwire/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mwwire/support

Joshua and Jude team up for a relaxed fit / alternative topic for this week. Brendan had "all hell break loose" at home and was unable to join us this week, but we know he'll be sharpening his blades for next week. In this episode: The sweet strangeness of the 1995 & 1996 seasons for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans were noticeably absent. Dealing with home and home scheduling. The table was set in 1994. Losing to the Northwestern Wildcats. The Ohio State Buckeyes as a nemesis. Lou Holtz magic. To the Orange Bowl! Thursday night miracles. Breaking the Texas Longhorns. John Cooper had some players. Kryptonite and the Washington Huskies. When you can't run the ball against the Air Force Falcons. 5 beatdowns. The departure of Holtz. Of course the USC Trojans ruin things. Being too good for a bowl game against the Auburn Tigers. Bob Davie gets his Independence. A little bit on Rocco Spindler and recruiting. A TikTok moment. Jude and Josh give the hard sell for OFD and the podcast - with an explanation about the madness. And plenty more weaved in and out of the show. PLEASE rate and review! All reviews left on Apple Podcasts will be read on the next OFD Podcast. Go Irish! Learn more about your ad choices. Jeremy and Matt are back to preview the 2020 New Mexico Lobos football season. The Lobos have moved on from the Bob Davie-era and made a great hire in Danny Gonzales who is a former Lobo coach and player. This hire was very popular with the Lobos fans as was being able to get back Rocky Long to the staff as he is the defensive coordinator. This team has some potential but with a lot of questions. Quarterback is up in the air but there is a lean toward Tevaka Tuioti who has the most experience and is the only New Mexico signal-caller to complete more than 50 percent of his passes. The top-five pass catchers are back and the running game has a lot of questions but options to tote the ball. The defense has some real issues with players transferring and overall not being that great, specifically in its pass defense. That is where Long and Gonzales come in as defensive coaches to get these players ready. This team likely won't go bowling but they will be an interesting team to watch. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mwwire/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mwwire/support

On this week's discussion show, Paul and Wally begin by discussing the departure of UNM football coach Bob Davie and the University's payout to him. Next, Paul and Wally attempt to shed some light on the City of Albuquerque's botched reporting of crime data. Finally, ART is finally rolling down Albuquerque streets. Then, Paul and Wally do a "deep dive" into the importance of donor privacy and some of the Foundation's ongoing work on the issue. Listeners can read more about the NAACP vs. Alabama US Supreme Court decision and the Foundation's case. You can also read about the Foundation's case against the City of Santa Fe.
Brandon Vogt is in for Darren White. Should the City of Albuquerque focus less on Public Relations and more on police work? The Albuquerque Police Union thinks so. Also, what would you like to see the Federal DUI money used for. Plus, what's the deal with Friendsgiving and who will replace Bob Davie as UNM Football Coach.
Nevada had yet another tough day, this time at Wyoming (5:42). New Mexico beat writer Steve Virgen joins the show ahead of the Lobos trip to Reno this weekend, does he think Bob Davie will be back next year (14:03)? The brothers share their thoughts on the matchup, and try to decide if this is the week Carson Strong takes control of the starting quarterback job (33:35). For slants, the Shoup's discuss Adam's horrid betting streak, Reno 1868's head-scratching playoff loss, and the NCAA's nothing burger (53:30). Is LSU the most well-liked playoff contender? And where does Oregon have an inside track to the playoff? Also: Oklahoma could miss the Big 12 title game. Who would Boise State hire if Bryan Harsin leaves. Who would New Mexico hire if Bob Davie is fired? And Saturday was a brutal day for overrated programs like Texas, Nebraska, Michigan State, and Purdue.

Josh and Jude sit down to preview the upcoming game for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish... the dangerous New Mexico Lobos. *Jude actually did his homework and has quite a bit of information about New Mexico. *Bob Davie stealing our joy by not being in South Bend on Saturday. *Trash Michigan a little. *The second tier work of Notre Dame. *Brian Kelly is a BOSS. *We discuss the terrible new song from Notre Dame, and have some real time interaction with fans about other terribleness. *Predictions. *For some reason we just start listing off other Notre Dame podcasts and encourage people to listen to them - we also pimp out other Notre Dame stuff because we are cool AF about it all. *Jokes. Even on an off week for Notre Dame football, the Pod of Gold Extra Point rolls on. Notre Dame Insider columnist Tom Noie and football reporter Carter Karels bring you the latest Pod of Gold Extra Point, which touches on a variety of football (and non-football) topics following Notre Dame’s 35-17 (yeah, we know, not 35-14 like one of us kept saying) victory over Louisville to open the season on Labor Day Night. Noie and Karels share one story from Louisville where the writers’ rental car was towed from its original parking spot at Cardinal Stadium (8:11-13:11). Also discussed were a few of the highs and lows of the Irish debut (13:22-17:46), Bob Davie NOT making the trip next week back to Notre Dame Stadium (18:15-21:00). And how in the world does a Chuck E. Cheese story make it into the podcast? That starts at 29:26. We’ll also reader questions at 31.00.
Former Irish wide receiver Bobby Brown joins the show to discuss Notre Dame's performance against the Cardinals, share his thoughts on the Irish linebackers, Ian Book and the passing game and Chase Claypool's ceiling, provide insight on the development of young receivers and Bob Davie's legacy at Notre Dame and more (1:47). Then Tyler James and Eric Hansen offer predictions during the Place Your Bets segment (29:31), bring back the Keeping up with the Joneses (36:16) and Punctuation Mark of the Week (39:55) segments, and answer questions from Twitter (42:45).
Typically during a bye week, we all fondly remember Charlie Weis and his infamous cheeseburger comments. However, with New Mexico and Bob Davie looming on the horizon, I moved to shelve the cheeseburgers and switch to hot dogs in honor of a certain incident that is detailed in this episode. With the hot dog focus, Shane and I naturally wanted a solid round of #snacktalk. So, naturally, we brought on a guest, Jessica Smetana of Sports Illustrated and the Most Valuable Podcast, to join us in discussing hot dogs of all kinds. Oh, and we ask her about Notre Dame things too. I guess that's important and of interest as well. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/herloyalsons/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/herloyalsons/support

The former linebacker joins the show to discuss his tough transition from a five-star All-American to a freshman at Notre Dame, the challenges of playing linebacker in the modern game, his experiences playing for Bob Davie and Tyrone Willingham and more. Jeremy and Matt move onto talk about the New Mexico Lobos 2019 football season. The Lobos have a tough season ahead of them as they have a new offensive and defensive coordinator, which seems like a sign of desperation for head coach Bob Davie. The rise of Tulane and fall of Tulsa. Is it a one-year blip or is it a coming trend? The curious story of New Mexico and Bob Davie and how the embattled coach is somehow still the Lobos head man. The return of the triple option to Georgia Southern and the fun offense at Nevada (and porous defense).
Jeremy and Matt are back to talk some February college football talk. We get back into some NFL Draft talk featuring a pair of potential first-round picks Josh Allen and Leighton Vander Esch, and maybe a few other Mountain West players who could sneak into the first round. We discuss that piece and caution about believing everything within the article. After that, we get into the games which feature a Friday night tilt between BYU hosting Boise State and the big question is if the Broncos will be making a change to their offense at all. Fresno State travels to San Jose State and even if the Bulldogs get the win we may not know too much about this team. The first leg of the Commander-in-Chief trophy starts with Air Force going to Navy and for the Falcons this is a must-win game. Apologizes to those wanting to hear about Nevada vs. Hawaii and San Diego State vs. UNLV, but we had tech issues and lost that part of the show. OH IT'S THE STAR WARS EPISODE. None of this podcast is Star Wars, or at least not anything past the first ten minutes, where we kind of joke around with doing a Star Wars episode, do it for a minute, and then hit the eject button when it clearly starts getting out of hand. Topics we did not eject from: --How Jason actually did watch all the Star Wars movies all the way through for the first time recently, and how Han Solo is really the center of the entire series, and WE SWEAR THAT'S ALL THE STAR WARS TALK WE DO --Okay there's a brief diversion into the Rancor getting out of his abusive relationship and going on some "Eat Pray Love" soul-searching --Bob Davie is coaching a team in a bowl game in New Mexico! What more could one ask of football, or indeed of life itself? --An examination of exactly what "Royal Purple" is --Why do they have a bowl game in Montgomery, ever, at all, for any reason? --Please welcome the "Shreveport Missing Persons Bowl" to the season's rotation --How the NOLA Bowl is really just the affordable, charming, and just-as-good lunch version of the Sugar Bowl for the savvy shopper --Did you know there's a bowl game at 2:30 p.m. on Monday? And that if you watch it, it's official proof you don't give a fuck about your job, and should quit? --Which bowl games have the best setup for creating two extremely hungover teams playing football? Besides the Sun Bowl, of course.
