Jonathan Majors Is Out as Kang, Brave New World Taps a Moon Knight Writer, James Gunn Talks More?!

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes A Marvel Studios spokesperson confirmed to HuffPost that Marvel Studios has parted ways with Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors, following his highly publicized assault and harassment convictions. Majors has played Kang since 2021 and the character was poised to be the next ‘big bad” for the cinematic multiverse. Recent reports and writer additions suggest Marvel plans to stay the course with the upcoming Avengers: Kang Dynasty still in development.  No stranger to social media, DCU figurehead James Gunn took to Threads to share some insights and clear up confusion regarding the many casting announcements surrounding his upcoming Superman: Legacy. To paraphrase, the filmmaker suggested that ‘pointless cameo porn' had contributed to superhero fatigue and defended his cast of characters as the opposite, saying that they are all included in the story for a reason, rather than seconds-long Easter egg appearances. Additionally, Gunn alluded to a meeting with his recently cast Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult, hinting how their version of the character would be new and unforgettable.  Instead of chocolate, we're eating crow here, as Wonka defied our expectations and won the box office, as well as won over audiences worldwide in its opening weekend. The Paul King-directed-Timothee Chalamet-starring–holiday-tent pole-musical-prequel danced to the domestic number one spot to the tune of $39 million, contributing to its $151 million global haul.  Critics' reviews for Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire have hit the internet ahead of its Dec. 21 Netflix debut and the consensus has been overwhelmingly negative; the film currently holds a 26 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Snyder and his films have often been subjects in the emerging conversation surrounding the seeming divide between critics and audiences and the director has already announced a director's cut with close to an hour of extra content. What, if any, impact do these reviews have on our own anticipation for Rebel Moon Part One, or Part Two for that matter? Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios has tapped Moon Knight series writer Matthew Orton to take a crack at rewriting Captain America: Brave New World. According to these reports, Orton's rewrite will add new material to previous iterations of the script, including a treatment completed by Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner, Malcom Spellman, with the new sequences to be filmed during the production's extensive reworks. Poor Things star Christopher Abbott is set to replace Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Wolfman film from Blumhouse and Universal. The Wolfman will be directed by Leigh Whannell of Invisible Man fame and will release October 25, 2024. Two-time Emmy winning actor, Andre Braugher passed away last Monday after a brief illness. Braugher, 61 at the time of his passing, built a career on playing police officers, notably starring in Brooklyn Nine Nine as Captain Raymond Holt. Hideo Kojima is partnering with A24 to develop a live action  film adaption for his 2019 video game Death Stranding, which starred Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and Guillermo Del Toro. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight to promote Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, star Jason Momoa admitted it was unlikely that he'd portray the King of Atlantis again in any future films. HBO announced that Curb Your Enthusiam's 12th season will be its final, consisting of 10 episodes and premiering February 4th. Per a Bloomberg report detailing the status of Netflix, the streaming platform is developing expansions of its most successful franchises with spin-offs for Extraction, Peaky Blinders, Wednesday, and several others currently in the works. Adult Swim released the first look at Rick and Morty: The Anime. The spin off series will debut sometime in 2024 on Adult Swim and Max.

Actor André Braugher died on Monday at the age of 61. Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) predicted former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley would defeat President Joe Biden in a 2024 matchup if she becomes the Republican nominee. Gov. Chris Sununu's (R-NH) endorsement of former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday gave her campaign a much-needed boost as Haley battles the 2024 Republican field to become former President Donald Trump's chief competitor. Where did the money go? That would appear to be an entirely fair question for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to ask as a U.S. tax filing for their Archewell charitable foundation reveals it made a loss last year on the back of a $11 million year-on-year collapse in donations.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

House set for vote on Biden impeachment inquiry; COP28 climate talks focus on fossil fuels; Emmy-winning actor Andre Braugher dies

On the version of Hot off the Wire posted Dec. 13 at 6:45 a.m. CT: WASHINGTON (AP) — The House is pushing toward a vote to authorize the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden formally. This comes as Republicans rally behind the charged process despite lingering concerns among some in the party that the investigation has yet to produce evidence of misconduct by the president. House Speaker Mike Johnson and his leadership team have been facing growing pressure to show progress in what has become a nearly yearlong probe centered around the business dealings of Biden's family members. Their investigation has raised ethical questions, but no evidence has emerged that Biden acted corruptly or accepted bribes in his current role or previous office as vice president. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Negotiators at United Nations COP28 climate talks agreed Wednesday that the world must transition away from planet-warming fossil fuels. It was a significant step toward shifting how the world is powered but one filled with questions about how soon and who will pay for the transition. COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber gaveled through the text at a plenary session in Dubai after more than two weeks of discussions that saw nations try and figure out a way for the world to stay in line with limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) since pre-industrial times. Countries were split between those wanting strong language on a phase-out of fossil fuels and others who wanted some way to continue burning oil, gas and coal. DETROIT (AP) — Tesla is recalling more than 2 million vehicles across its model lineup to fix a defective system that's supposed to ensure drivers are paying attention when they use Autopilot. Documents posted by U.S. safety regulators say the company will send out a software update to fix the problems. The recall comes after a two-year investigation by U.S. auto safety regulators into a series of crashes that happened while the Autopilot partially automated driving system was in use. Some were deadly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says its investigation found Autopilot's method of ensuring that drivers are paying attention can be inadequate and “can lead to foreseeable misuse of the system." ROME (AP) — Pope Francis, who turns 87 on Sunday, said he never thought about resigning this year despite a series of health scares. MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Current and former inmates of the Alabama prison system have filed a lawsuit challenging the prison labor program. The lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court says prisoners are forced to work for little and sometimes even no pay in jobs that benefit government entities or private companies. They called it a kind of ''modern day slavery." The class-action lawsuit also accuses the state of maintaining a discriminatory parole system with a low release rate that ensures a supply of laborers from a disproportionately Black workforce. The Alabama Department of Corrections declined to comment on the lawsuit. The state has previously maintained that prison and work release jobs prepare inmates for life after incarceration. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Andre Braugher, the Emmy-winning actor best known for his roles on the series “Homicide: Life on The Street” and “Brooklyn 99." Braugher's publicist Jennifer Allen said he died Monday at age 61. The Chicago-born actor had his breakthrough role alongside Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman in 1989's “Glory" the Oscar-winning film about an All-black regiment during the Civil War. He played a detective for seven seasons in the 1990s on the NBC police drama “Homicide: Life on the Street." Later he played a police captain for eight seasons in the Fox comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine." He won two Emmys and was nominated 11 times. ATLANTA (AP) — The trial for rapper Young Thug and five other people is on pause until early next year after one of the defendants was stabbed in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta. The sheriff's office said 31-year-old Shannon Stillwell was stabbed multiple times Sunday evening during a fight with another man housed in the same part of the jail. Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Glanville told jurors Tuesday morning that he was releasing them early for the holidays. Previously, the holiday break had been scheduled to start at the end of the proceedings Friday. Glanville told jurors to return Jan. 2 to continue the trial. CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Harvard President Claudine Gay will remain leader of the prestigious Ivy League school following her comments last week at a congressional hearing on antisemitism. Gay came under intense scrutiny following the hearing in which she and two of her peers struggled to answer questions about campus antisemitism. Their responses provoked backlash from Republican opponents, along with alumni and donors who say the university leaders are failing to stand up for Jewish students on their campuses. The Harvard Corporation, the university's highest governing body, released a statement Tuesday saying it unanimously supports Gay. The Mavericks and Celtics among the NBA's biggest winners, Toronto picked up a key NHL win, the St. Louis Blues made a coaching change, Justin Herbert's season is over for the Chargers, the San Francisco Giants have reportedly inked a big contract with a Korean player, and Notre Dame has again landed another former ACC quarterback to lead its offense. —The Associated Press About this program Host Terry Lipshetz is a senior producer for Lee Enterprises. After kicking things off with Adam's tales of neglected hot tub maintenance, the Munchie Boys step into the world of early Season 13 where a new writing staff ventures off into a Stabler-less world. Where some episodes may not be as boldly helmed and written, this is a fantastically directed, process-concerned contemplation on how a rape and its ensuing investigation affects the victim in the days and weeks that follow. It also features Munch's former Homicide fellow detective after an apparent name change from Frank Pembleton to Bayard Ellis, who is apparently now a civil rights defense attorney. Yes, this one's got none other than 11-time Emmy nominee (and two-time winner) Andre Braugher. Don't worry, we also talk at length about a cast member's involvement in a meditation cult and how it colors our undying appreciation of Mandy, the undeniable sexual energy between Braugher and Hargitay, and the notion of an SVU without Olivia Benson which was apparently in the cards. So Ferris Bueller plays White Saviour to a bunch of courageous, black, Civil War soldiers in the Next 151 Project. And, against the odds, it really works. This remains a powerful film 30 years on, especially when the focus shifts (at least somewhat) from Matthew Broderick to Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and friends. Broderick (and the man he portrays, Colonel Shaw) might be in over his head, but that benefits the character and the movie. It’s a flicker show filled with great moments and exceptional battle scenes. Ed Zwick has directed a few underrated motion pics, but his Civil War opus is his most-meaningful accomplishment.
