In Find Me Guilty, Vin Diesel stars as "Fat" Jackie DiNorscio, one of several defendants in a federal racketeering trial. That trial was the longest Mafia trial in American history. That conceit is interesting in and of itself, but the fact that DiNorscio served as his own attorney really puts it over the top. Using original court transcripts throughout, DiNorscio makes for a compelling movie character. And Diesel's portrayal of him is some of his finest work on film. DiNorscio is charming and funny. His counterpart, Sean Kierney (in reality, Samuel Alito) played by Linus Roache is the opposite. He's a brash, cocky prick that you really want DiNorscio to stick it to. Yes, the mobsters are the bad guys, but they are not bad guys. The penultimate film of the great Sidney Lumet, it's a shame that Find Me Guilty didn't find a wider audience at the time of its release. “I, in my home, right now, have a bat from the movie Batman Begins” - Steve On this week's episode, W❤️M month continues as we chat about Chris Nolan's fabulous comic book adaptation, Batman Begins! Has there been a softer Little Boy Bruce Wayne in cinema? Why couldn't they have put a little more spirit gum on Liam Neeson's goatee at the beginning? How fantastic is Cillian Murphy in this and shouldn't Scarecrow have been a larger character? Does anyone have proof that Pennyworth was a real show and not just a tax shelter? And why can't more studios look to these Nolan films to reassure themselves that it's… okay to recast an actor? Hmm? PLUS: Batman blows his fortune on movie merch! For this Christmas in July, we went a very non-traditional route with our movie choice and watched “The Apology” on Hulu. Thankfully, we also watched “A Storm for Christmas” and “Die Hard,” two actual Christmas shows. We definitely needed something more jovial after “The Apology”!“The Apology” takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. But this is no Christmas movie. Yes, a gift or two are given. A meal is prepared. Decorations are hung. But no one is festive or celebrating. And, in the dark and snowy night, just as a 19-years-sober mother-of-a-missing-teen (missing for 20 years) is about to take a drink of vodka, the mother's former brother-in-law knocks on the door. Oops, his car just happened to break down nearby. Umm.Actually, he's stopped by to make an apology. Fun. (Not.)The movie is really solid, actually, starring Anna Gunn, Linus Roache, and Janeane Garofalo and directed by Alison Locke. Alison Star Locke is a writer and director who recently released her excellent feature debut, The Apology, with Anna Gunn, Jeanine Garofalo, and Linus Roache. 20 years after her daughter's disappearance, a woman's Christmas gathering spirals into a suspenseful showdown when an unexpected guest arrives with haunting secrets. As a storm traps them together, past grudges and hidden truths turn merry festivities into a psychological battleground. This film combines emotional drama with horror and overall creates a very atmospheric exploration of guilt, loss, and revenge. I'll tell you the suspense building in this movie was masterful, and I was very nerve-wracked up until the end. The Apology will be streaming on Hulu beginning tomorrow, June 16th, also available on VOD. In this episode, we'll get into Alison's filmmaking origin story, the importance of putting personal truths into horror, and how she's able to get compelling performances from her actors when they have to go to the depths of the human psyche. Please enjoy this conversation with Alison Star Locke. Here are some key takeaways from this conversation with Alison. Nurture current relationships and collaborations. The opportunity for Alison to direct her first feature arose from an existing contact she had who she originally asked for feedback on The Apology. This underscores a key insight: while networking and forging new connections are important, sometimes there's immense value in recognizing and nurturing the relationships you already have. The quest for new connections can sometimes overshadow the potential of the relationships right under your nose, those that may harbor incredible opportunities. Use Star Cards. Alison effectively employed a unique tool on her set that she called Star Cards. These cards acted as written reminders that kept her aligned with her film's true intentions. On a bustling film set with countless decisions to make and problems to solve, it's surprisingly easy to lose sight of the original vision. That's why having something tangible that aligns you to your 'true north' can be an invaluable resource to constantly remind you of the core vision and intention of your movie. Star Cards can act as that anchor amidst the chaos, keeping the director grounded and focused. Jump into emotional trenches with your actors Horror filmmaking, when executed with authenticity, often demands that actors plunge into deep, dark places of fear, suffering, and violence. This can be daunting, emotionally taxing, even traumatic for actors. It's crucial then, as Alison points out, for a director to be right there with their actors in their emotional trenches. Alison operates under the principle of never asking her actors to emotionally go to places that she herself wouldn't go, and in the case of The Apology, she often shared her own experiences and emotions that were related to the work itself. This practice not only fosters a sense of safety and trust but also demonstrates the director's solidarity with their actors - ultimately reinforcing the idea that they are all on this journey together and in the same foxhole. Anyway, guys, thank you as always for listening, don't forget to check out The Apology, which will begin streaming on Hulu beginning tomorrow, June 16th, also on VOD. We shift gears wildly from last week's animated family fun to a blood-soaked, neon-drenched revenge thriller, as we synch up with today's theatrical release of Renfield to discuss 2018's Mandy, written and directed by Panos Cosmatos, starring Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough and Linus Roache. It's a movie very much of a pattern for Cage alongside Pig, A Color Out of Space and even Drive Angry. Plus J Mo has field reports on trips to the theatre to see Creed III and 65, while Hayley makes the case for Scream as brunette culture. Thank you Eastman Presser for our theme music and Sydney Beaudin for our cover art! Despite what we teased at the end of this episode, we will back next week honouring 4/20 with a hang-out movie for the ages: Richard Linklater's 1993 classic Dazed and Confused.

The Where to Stick It Listener Takeover has brought us to some very weird and wild places, today's movie is no exception. Mandy, starring Nicholas Cage, Bill Duke, and Linus Roache is brought to us by Brandy. If you're looking for a trippy satanic acid trip on shrooms, you've come to the right episode. Mandy packs a psychedelic punch to the sternum, but will that be enough to keep it out of the list of shame?
Alison Star Locke hits a Home Run with her first major genre/crossing suspense film, The Apology and she makes zero apologies on the disturbing content therein. Starring Anna Gunn, Janeane Garofalo and Linus Roache, Locke breaches many horror contracts with this Hitchcockian horror microcosmic drama. We will get in depth on the film's unique and beautiful twists on the "revenge" flick while peeling back the many layers that makes Alison Star Lock the professional writer/director that she is and what made her choose horror as her muse. A powerful female with precise intentions on where she wants to take the viewer; a roller coaster ride full of depraved emotion, void of mystery. 1 . THE RECRUIT (series)A fledgling CIA lawyer gets caught up in a dangerous game of international politics when a former asset threatens to expose the nature of her relationship with the agency unless they clear her name.CAST Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks Aarti Mann as Violet Daniel Quincy Annoh as Terence Vondie Curtis-Hall as Walter Nyland Kristian Bruun as Janus Ferber Laura Haddock as Max Meladze Colton Dunn as Lester Fivel Stewart as Hannah Byron Mann as Xander Angel Parker as Dawn Linus Roache as Senator Smoot Kaylah Zander as Amelia But whatever cutting satire or righteous anger The Recruit might have to offer is badly diluted over eight bloated hours — lost amid paper-thin characters, flimsy twists and a wishy-washy tone. What it turns out instead is a piece of content so forgettable, the CIA wouldn't have to lift a finger to disappear it from public memory.Initially, The Recruit appears to be a fish-out-of-water comedy. The first time we meet Owen, he's singing Taylor Swift to himself during a pee break while on a life-or-death mission in Russia; the second time we see him, after the show rewinds two weeks, he's slapping his knees to Nelly's “Hot in Herre” while waiting to meet his big-shot boss (Vondie Curtis-Hall) during his second day on the job. In no time at all, the rookie's gotten himself tangled up in a case involving a volatile off-the-books asset, Max Meladze (Laura Haddock), who's threatened to reveal damning agency secrets — and all before he's even figured out the office policies around booking plane tickets. But The Recruit is not really a comedy at all, despite a smattering of halfhearted jokes. (“The eagle has landed,” a CIA suit says of Owen, to which his colleague scoffs: “The eagle? More like the idiot.” Zing!) Nor does it seem quite thrilling enough to qualify as a thriller, though Doug Liman, who directed the first two episodes, brings some of his Bourne shaky-cam style to its occasional fistfights and gunfights. It's sort of meant to be a character study of Owen, I guess, except that The Recruit never seems able to make up its mind about who he's supposed to be either. The dialogue would seem to point one way: To hear his law school buddies tell it, he's a thrill-seeking playboy whose savior complex covers a bruised heart and a selfish streak — sort of a younger, greener, Gen-Z Bond. (One episode makes the comparison explicit when Owen, dressed in a borrowed tuxedo, is offered a martini; he turns it down for a White Claw.) Centineo's performance, on the other hand, reads as far too puppyish to sell the arrogance needed for that archetype. The show itself seems torn between laughing at Owen and admiring him, though many of his accomplishments don't actually seem that impressive: At one point, his colleague is bowled over to see Owen, a lawyer, bring a rogue agent to heel by reminding him that he could get sued. The weakness of Owen as a character might be forgivable in an ensemble piece, where other leads could take up the slack. But he's the center of the universe in The Recruit. Owen's coworkers seem obsessed with him, whether they're flirting with him in the hallway or cooking up new ways to sabotage him in front of their boss. Likewise his non-CIA friends — in particular his ex-turned-roommate Hannah (Fivel Stewart), who announces, “I don't want to be that girl who says she's worried about you” before spending the rest of the season worrying about him so hard that her own friends and family start to worry about her.Still, the world around Owen does yield some highlights. Haddock seems to be having great fun as Meladze, donning the half-smirk of a woman who knows she's winning a game no one else is even aware they're playing — and, later, the guarded pain of someone running from a past too painful to remember. The only aspect of her character she's not able to sell is the supposedly simmering sexual tension with Owen, not least because the tough, cunning Meladze seems like she could eat this clueless 24-year-old alive. Also entertaining is Bruun's Janus. The Recruit‘s one truly funny runner involves the never-ending battle between Janus, frazzled but offering prudent legal counsel, and the special operation team, whom he describes as being like “if meth became sentient and was given weaponry.” So determined is spec ops to embark on exciting but definitely illegal missions that they'll stoop to drugging him so he can't advise them to stop — a hilarious but disturbing window into the thought process that's gone into some of American intelligence's shadiest projects. It's in Janus that the show's potential for black comedy comes through most clearly, and it's too bad he's mostly relegated to the background of Owen's storyline.2. He's the living definition of a “working actor,” a versatile Brit whom you may recognize from The Vikings or Homeland who has so often played American (on series like Law & Order) that some fans are shocked to discover his heritage. His parents are actors and he followed his dad (who still appears on England's Coronation Street) into the family business. His films include Priest, Wings of the Dove, My Policeman, and now The Apology (opening today in theaters and on VOD, opposite Anna Gunn). Leonard and Jessie are longtime fans and enjoyed discussing the highs and lows of an actor's life.
Evan is off this week so Megan and Dave are a duo, and they're a doozy of a duo, because one movie they like, and one movie they really, really don't. They start things off with Nelly & Nadine (3:26), a documentary about an unlikely love story of two women falling in love on Christmas Eve, 1944, in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Then it's The Apology (27:47), a Christmas-set thriller about a missing child, her coming-to-terms-with-it mother, and the unannounced guest who shows up to pour sugar in everyone's figurative gas tanks. Bonus: Janeane Garofalo is in this one (along with stars Anna Gunn and Linus Roache)! Linus Roache (Priest, Law & Order) joins host Robin Milling to chat about his new film The Apology. Under the guise of a Christmas thriller, written and directed by Alison Locke, it will no doubt spark conversation. Linus talks about his delight in getting the crap beat out of him by co-star Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad). "It was fun playing a character who gets beaten to a pulp, burnt in the face, hit in the head with a hockey stick and a lamp, and knifed at one point. Best blood ever!" He also reminisces working with his 90-year-old father William Roache in the classic British soap opera Coronation Street, and reveals his special Christmas plans in India.

After kicking things off with Adam's tales of neglected hot tub maintenance, the Munchie Boys step into the world of early Season 13 where a new writing staff ventures off into a Stabler-less world. Where some episodes may not be as boldly helmed and written, this is a fantastically directed, process-concerned contemplation on how a rape and its ensuing investigation affects the victim in the days and weeks that follow. It also features Munch's former Homicide fellow detective after an apparent name change from Frank Pembleton to Bayard Ellis, who is apparently now a civil rights defense attorney. Yes, this one's got none other than 11-time Emmy nominee (and two-time winner) Andre Braugher. Don't worry, we also talk at length about a cast member's involvement in a meditation cult and how it colors our undying appreciation of Mandy, the undeniable sexual energy between Braugher and Hargitay, and the notion of an SVU without Olivia Benson which was apparently in the cards. Golden Globe-nominated Linus Roache discusses money, growing up in a family of actors, the celebrity of his father William Roache, fulfillment, happiness, and more. Guest Biography Linus Roache is a British actor, probably best known for his roles as Michael Cutter on Law and Order and Thomas Wayne in Batman Begins. In 1975, Roache appeared in Coronation Street playing Peter Barlow, the son of his father's character Ken Barlow. Roache is also a past member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Roache was born in Manchester, Lancashire, the son of Coronation Street actor William Roache and actress Anna Cropper. Roache was educated at Bishop Luffa School in Chichester, West Sussex and at the independent Rydal School in Colwyn Bay, North Wales. He studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Beginning in the 1990s, Roache began a career in film while remaining active in television and stage. In 1994, he received acclaim for his leading role in Antonia Bird's Priest. He is best known to US audiences as Dr. Thomas Wayne, father of Batman, in Batman Begins (2005) or as Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Cutter in the American TV series Law & Order (2008–2010) and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2011–2012). In June 2010, it was announced that he would return to play Laurence Cunningham, alongside his father William Roache, in Coronation Street. In July 2010, he was cast in the HBO pilot The Miraculous Year. In April 2011, Roache was cast as the lead in the ITV mini-series Titanic, airing March–April 2012 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship. In February 2014, Roache debuted in season two of the popular TV series Vikings as England's King Ecbert. He is currently filming season 7 of Homeland, where he plays White House Chief of Staff, David Wellington. Show notes: http://www.inspiredmoney.fm/007 Links Homeland Coronation Street Linus Roache (IMDb) In this episode, you will learn: How to prepare for a performance. We non-actors can event benefit by these insights and routines because life is a grand performance! How you should not tie your self-worth to your work. We'll explore all sorts of things like wealth, fulfillment, and happiness. Linus is not just a great actor but after hitting many of his professional goals by age 30, he began to wonder if this is it? He took a break and explored the spiritual aspect of life that included meditating for at least 2 hours a day! So we'll explore this too. With the recent release of Sir Nicolas Cage's Pig, it's time we reevaluate one of the more recent prestige Cage films with the wild ride that is 2018's Mandy. Episode 246: The Crew's on a LSD trip while watching Panos Cosmatos' Mandy. The plot is very simple, but the visuals make this revenge story soak into your memory. The pace of the film is slow, allowing the viewer time to behold the insanity. There's a demonic biker gang, a crazy cult, chainsaw battles, and the color red seeps into the visuals via lens flares. The Crew discusses. If you like our music intro, head over to Soundcloud and hear more amazing music from aquariusweapon. Aquariusweapon can also be found on YouTube. Contact: themoviecrewe@gmail.com

$1,000 Matching Offer from Puerto Rico: If you can possibly give $1,000, a listener in the Carribean will match that to make a total of $2,000 toward our telethon and that will put us over the $10,000 mark! (This listener is doing this to recognize the work of one of our RSR producers, Larry Wolfe, an retired IBMer with LASER patents to his name.) Bob Enyart interviews Gualberto Garcia Jones, vice president of LifeSiteNews, the day after Google canceled their two-million-views-per-week YouTube channel! And Bob quotes NBC's Law & Order from a pastor-approveed episode that argued, shockingly, that rape doesn't justify abortion, especially because the assistant district attorney in the series actually quoted Guabe as part of their script! (See below.) Then, at 28:20 into today's program on our telethon bogus segment, Bob airs the audio from 22 years ago when he confronted infamous pornographer Larry Flynt on ABC's Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher. Please don't listen to that last segment with kids in the room. Even though we edited out Maher, Flynt, and Lynn Redgrave's most vile 90-second flaunt of perversion, the Flynt segment is scarcely appropriate for adults but certainly not for children. Finally, we're now over $9,000 toward our telethon goal of $50,000! We can really use your help. If you can, please check out kgov.com/store or call us at 1-800-8Enyart (836-9278) to purchase materials, sign up for a subscription, or to make a one-time or monthly donation. Today's Resource: Bob Debates the Stars Watch Bob Enyart debate celebrities on moral issues on his many appearances on national television opposing Jimmy Kimmel, Larry Flynt, Bill Maher, Judd Nelson, Sisqo, Victoria Jackson, Marilu Henner, Dennis Weaver, Donny Osmond, Martin Short, Aisha Tyler, Veronica Webb, Ruby Wax, Lynn Redgrave, Cherie Carter Scott, Armin Brott, Colleen Haskell, and Jeffrey Tambor. * NBC's Law & Order: "Rape Doesn't Justify Abortion": American RTL is remembering NBC's only pro-life Law & Order episode, titled Dignity, which is excerpted below. This episode is pastor-approved and you can view it online. Law & Order excerpts: From Detective Kevin Bernard, played by Anthony Anderson: "You got it backwards, man. The horrible thing is the rape, not the bringing of a life into the world." Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Connie Rubirosa says, "I grew up thinking Roe v. Wade was gospel. … But [now] I don't know where my privacy ends and another being's dignity begins." Executive ADA Michael Cutter, played by Linus Roache, was quoting real-world surveys when he said, "The tide has turned. Most Americans are pro-life now." Cutter virtually quoted the co-sponsor of Colorado's 2010 Personhood Amendment, Gualberto Garcia Jones, who launched the statewide ballot initiative holding his 10-day-old son at a press conference and saying, "Two weeks ago, my son had less rights than a dog or a cat." Speaking to District Attorney Jack McCoy, Cutter says, "My God, cats and dogs have more rights than the unborn." Other items of note: a detective rejected abortion after rape; fetuses were referred to as "persons;" and even the pro-choice mom who, against her doctor's advice, did not abort her premature baby and found out in the hours they had together that her child "wasn't a monster, like the doctors warned me." Det. Bernard also said, "That unwanted child could change the world. Cure cancer, be president." more... * Check Out Also: Our July 9, 2011 interview of World Tour with Guabe at kgov.com/gualberto.

I denne piloten av podcasten Flashback er digresjon nøkkelordet. Baba, Morten og Remi prøver seg på en slags introduksjon av seg selv, podcastens tematikk og fagfeltet film i et og samme åndedrag. MOVIE REVIEW: Earning a 4-minute standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival, Mandy embraces the world of art-house cinema while comfortably fitting itself amidst popular midnight movies. It's the best of both worlds, and that's not the only thing about Mandy that flips like a coin. Perhaps it's most alienating quality is it's most attractive, and I seek to engage its passionate love and furious anger in this latest episode of Cinematic Doctrine! Mandy was a movie voted on by members of Cinematic Doctrine's Facebook Group. If you're interested in having your voice heard, join here! http://bit.ly/CinDocFBGroup Mandy is Unrated, but here's my own certificate: Rated R for intense graphic/bloody violence and gore, graphic nudity, sexual content, pervasive drugs and alcohol, and language. It features Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough, Linus Roache, and Bill Duke. Directed by Panos Cosmatos. Tune in Wednesday nights for new episodes of Cinematic Doctrine! Leslie talks to us about being a black raver, knowing white ravers who dressed up as stereotypes of "ghetto" Black people for Halloween being called white for having Leftist politics. Plus we discuss gay horror movies, the radical politics of "The Purge" movies, Bill Clinton's book, and why it kills off the first lady. Gabe does a great Bill Clinton impersonation! Stand by for our bonus on where we talk about the film Mandy, hippy-punching, Linus Roache's penis, Ronald Reagan and whether we'd rather be stuck on a desert island with him or Donald Trump.

It’s a short, campy, schlocky week this go around. We review Panos Cosmatos’ dystopian, revenge film ‘Mandy’ (Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough, Linus Roache, Bill Duke), and shark-centric, monster movie ‘The Meg’ (Jason Statham, Bingbing Li, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose). Darren gives ‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls’ a box office boost, just to check out the IMAX 3D release of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, and Anthony skips town again. The world’s greatest Erik Estrada joke gets highlighted.

Linus Roache has played upstanding characters on “Law and Order” and “Homeland” but he had to plumb the depths and reach the epicenter of narcissism to play Jeremiah Sand in “Mandy,” and it’s a frightening joy to behold. He talks about the draining yet rewarding time bringing this character to life and the guidance and trust he had from director Panos Cosmatos. Plus he answers a listener question about the faith life of his character, King Ecbert, in the TV series “Vikings.”
