Majors has played Kang since 2021 and the character was poised to be the next ‘big bad” for the cinematic multiverse. Recent reports and writer additions suggest Marvel plans to stay the course with the upcoming Avengers: Kang Dynasty still in development.  No stranger to social media, DCU figurehead James Gunn took to Threads to share some insights and clear up confusion regarding the many casting announcements surrounding his upcoming Superman: Legacy. To paraphrase, the filmmaker suggested that ‘pointless cameo porn' had contributed to superhero fatigue and defended his cast of characters as the opposite, saying that they are all included in the story for a reason, rather than seconds-long Easter egg appearances. Additionally, Gunn alluded to a meeting with his recently cast Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult, hinting how their version of the character would be new and unforgettable.  Instead of chocolate, we're eating crow here, as Wonka defied our expectations and won the box office, as well as won over audiences worldwide in its opening weekend. The Paul King-directed-Timothee Chalamet-starring–holiday-tent pole-musical-prequel danced to the domestic number one spot to the tune of $39 million, contributing to its $151 million global haul.  Critics' reviews for Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire have hit the internet ahead of its Dec. 21 Netflix debut and the consensus has been overwhelmingly negative; the film currently holds a 26 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Snyder and his films have often been subjects in the emerging conversation surrounding the seeming divide between critics and audiences and the director has already announced a director's cut with close to an hour of extra content. What, if any, impact do these reviews have on our own anticipation for Rebel Moon Part One, or Part Two for that matter? Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios has tapped Moon Knight series writer Matthew Orton to take a crack at rewriting Captain America: Brave New World. According to these reports, Orton's rewrite will add new material to previous iterations of the script, including a treatment completed by Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner, Malcom Spellman, with the new sequences to be filmed during the production's extensive reworks. Poor Things star Christopher Abbott is set to replace Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Wolfman film from Blumhouse and Universal. The Wolfman will be directed by Leigh Whannell of Invisible Man fame and will release October 25, 2024. Two-time Emmy winning actor, Andre Braugher passed away last Monday after a brief illness. Braugher, 61 at the time of his passing, built a career on playing police officers, notably starring in Brooklyn Nine Nine as Captain Raymond Holt. Hideo Kojima is partnering with A24 to develop a live action  film adaption for his 2019 video game Death Stranding, which starred Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and Guillermo Del Toro. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight to promote Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, star Jason Momoa admitted it was unlikely that he'd portray the King of Atlantis again in any future films. HBO announced that Curb Your Enthusiam's 12th season will be its final, consisting of 10 episodes and premiering February 4th. Per a Bloomberg report detailing the status of Netflix, the streaming platform is developing expansions of its most successful franchises with spin-offs for Extraction, Peaky Blinders, Wednesday, and several others currently in the works. Adult Swim released the first look at Rick and Morty: The Anime. The spin off series will debut sometime in 2024 on Adult Swim and Max.

Anya Taylor-Joy of The Queen's Gambit and Last Night in Soho fame, is potentially going to fill a major role for Matt Shakman's upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Marvel is reportedly looking to do a gender-swap with Taylor-Joy for the Silver Surfer. In comics, the character is usually connected with the planet-eating maniac Galactus, and serves as his herald to the planets he's about to decimate. Many news outlets are calling the character a villain, do we think any of this is true? We won't see Christopher Nolan heading up any James Bond movies in the near future. When the director was reportedly attached to a project in July, many fans were thrilled by the news for the famed filmmaker to take on Britain's greatest agent with a license to kill. While promoting Oppenheimer, Nolan confirmed that the rumors had no legs, “unfortunately” in his words. Who would be a good choice to pick up the 007 world after Daniel Craig's epic run? During his recent appearance on the Smartless podcast, director Taika Waititi mentioned that he was not originally interested in doing any Marvel movie, but ended up doing so for the money and to “feed his kids.” When he was approached by Marvel Studios, Waititi said he felt they were combing “the bottom of the barrel,” but that he was “poor” and needed the money. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes took the number one spot at the box office over Thanksgiving weekend, earning $42 million dollars over the five-day run. Napoleon and Disney's 100th film Wish took a close second and third, with Napoleon earning $32.5 million dollars domestically and $78.8 million dollars worldwide and Wish taking home $31.7 million dollars domestically and $49 million dollars worldwide. Overall ticket sales for the Thanksgiving holiday came in at an estimated $173.9 million, which is the best post-pandemic for the holiday, besting 2022's $134 million, but still far off from pre-pandemic Thanksgiving moviegoing with 2019 having racked up $263.4 million. Seems like audiences were hungry for the box office this Thanksgiving, right?

So, let's rundown and breakdown some of the biggest breaking stories impacting the future of our favorite interconnected film multiverse: Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton will no longer be directing Avengers: Kang Dynasty. The filmmaker is reportedly stepping away to continue work on other Marvel Studios projects including a Shang-Chi sequel and the Wonder Man Disney Plus series, which was confirmed to fall under Marvel's new Spotlight banner. While speaking with Business Insider, director Taika Waititi discussed the possibility of another Thor sequel, suggesting that he wouldn't be involved due to commitments to other future projects. Fantastic Four has been no stranger to casting rumors of varying credibility, but according to Deadline's sources, Pedro Pascal has emerged as the frontrunner to play Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards. While the deal is not yet inked, discussions are reportedly going well. Also, suspected villain Galactus received more attention this week, as insider rumors named Javier Bardem as the choice to voice the planet-eater. Sony dropped the trailer for Madame Web, giving us our first glimpse at the latest Spider-man spinoff not featuring Spidey. The trailer showcased leads Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, teasing a slasher-esque narrative as they are stalked by a mysterious villain, Ezekiel Sims. Of course, all those details are overshadowed by the absolute heyday the internet is having with a certain line of dialogue about Studying Spiders. With the SAG-AFTRA strike nearly in our rearview mirrors, James Gunn has wasted no time building out the foundation of his DCU with a few notable additions joining the roster of Superman: Legacy. Nicholas Hoult is stepping into the Oxford shoes of Superman's greatest enemy, Lex Luthor. While his secretary and mistress Eve Teschmacher will be played by model and actress Sara Sampaio. Supe's best pal - Jimmy Olsen will be played by The Righteous Gestone's Skyler Gisondo. And finally Maria Gabriela de Faria joined the cast as the antagonist, The Engineer, with a liquid nanite body from which she creates solid objects. She is also a member of the team, The Authority. So presumably she would carry over into that announced film as well. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Ahsoka and Clone Wars showrunner Dave Filoni dished up some details about the future of Star Wars, including his own promotion as the chief creative officer of Lucasfilm. He suggested that the new role would see not only his increased involvement on every part of the franchise, but also include him far earlier in the development process than previously. Filoni will reportedly continue to helm his film which will follow from the events of the Ahsoka, Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett, as well as a second season of Ahsoka.We asked, which Marvel delay are you most bummed about? The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling is being pushed back March 1 to May 3, the date originally held by Deadpool 3 Actress and playwright, Ana Nogueira, has been tapped to write Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the DCU. James Gunn broke the news while confirming that he is also currently looking for a director for the film. Marvel Studios has dropped the first trailer for the second season of the animated series What If…? The trailer was accompanied by the season's release schedule; set to debut December 22 on Disney+ and dropping a new episode daily for 9 days through December 30th. Bob Iger revealed that Disney is working on a fourth “Frozen” movie in addition to the previously announced “Frozen 3,' which hasn't been released yet.

This is in line with reports coming out of last month's Star Wars Celebration that the 8-episode limited series would be premiering sometime in late summer. It's not all happy news for the series, unfortunately, as veteran sci-fi actor, Ray Stevenson, who portrays turncoat Jedi Baylon Skoll, passed away this weekend at the age of 58, while shooting a film in Italy. Disney has started removing dozens of series, specials and direct-to-streaming movies from both Disney Plus and Hulu. The move, which was announced during the May 10 Disney earnings call, is part of an effort to cut costs and refocus content curation to maximize profitability. The list is extensive, but a notable standouts is Willow, which finished its season in January, and has not been available for a full 6 months.The Willow series, along with many others on the list, were never released to physical media and are essentially lost to the void. Early backlash from the announced purge has already saved a few titles including the documentary Howard and Marvel series MPower and Marvel's Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever. Fast X crossed the finish line in first place at the box office this weekend with a reported haul of $67 million, domestically. This was enough to overtake reigning champ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 in its third weekend. Vin Diesel also confirmed that a spin-off film is currently in development with an all female lead cast. A teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi film The Creator had dropped. Coming to us from Rogue One and the 2014 Godzilla director, Gareth Edwards, the film stars John David Washington and tells the story of a future humanity at war with artificial intelligence that is bent on destroying human life. The film will debut on September 29th. After releasing a teaser that debuted a full year ago with Top Gun: Maverick, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 has dropped its official first trailer. The first part of the two part film series will hit theaters on July 12th. Paramount Films and AppleTV+ have debuted the first trailer for Martin Scosese's Killers of the Flower Moon. The film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Di Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lilly Gladstone, and Brenden Fraser will premiere in theaters on October 6th and will be distributed during an unspecified streaming release on AppleTV+ as well. Chiwtel Ejiofor who played Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange has closed a deal to star opposite Tom Hardy in Venom 3. Eddie Murphy is in final talks to play Inspector Clouseau in an upcoming reboot of Pink Panther, described as a live action/CGI hybrid buddy cop film. A new teaser officially announced the revival of beloved sci fi animated series Futurama is set to debut on Hulu on July 24th. MCU Rumors: Industry insiders are reporting that Jeff Loveness, who wrote Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and was in line to write Avengers: Kang Dynasty is no longer writing the film. Insiders are also reporting that Emma Stone was originally offered the role of Sue Storm in the MCU, but turned it down due to salary disputes. Neither of these reports have been confirmed by anyone attached to Marvel Studios. Ridley Scott's upcoming Gladiator sequel continues to round out it's cast. Barry Keoghan, who was attached to the film in the early phases has exited. May Calamawy who starred as Layla in Moon Knight among others has joined the cast. Tati Gabrielle, best known for her work in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and You has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel to the 2021 film Mortal Kombat and will play the character of Jade.
