Chris interviews Ryan Bousfield of Wolf and Wood Interactive and asks them about the design and development of their Squash/Breakout hybrid, C-Smash VRS. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode454.mp3 Music featured is by Ken Ishii (https://kenishii.bandcamp.com/) The Sausage Factory 454 was edited by Chris O'Regan The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators. Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.

My guest today is a writer, producer and director of plays, films and videogames. In 1997 he left Belgium to study theatre at NYU in New York. While a student my guest began freelancing as a video game journalist contributing to Next Gen, Official Dreamcast Magazine and the legendary Famitsu in Japan. He then joined Treyarch to work on the video game adaptation of Steven Spielberg's MINORITY REPORT, a project that set him on the path of cross-media storytelling. His 2014 graphic novel RICKY ROUSE HAS A GUN was named one of The Boston Globe's books of the year. Then two years later his debut feature film, THE WHITE KING, adapted from a Hungarian novel, debuted at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Later, he produced the theatrical adaptation of Ernest Hemmingway's 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises, a West End success described by a reviewer for The Sunday Telegraph as ‘intense, raw and compelling.” Most recently, my guest directed C-Smash VRS, a virtual reality-based follow-up to the cult classic Arcade and Dreamcast game, Cosmic Smash.
