This Week in Horror History for May 4–10 dives into a killer week of horror movie history, slasher movie anniversaries, cult horror films, horror comics, survival horror games, and classic monster adventure. This episode revisits the bloody legacy of Friday the 13th, the 2005 remake of House of Wax, the serial-killer comic-book mystery Nailbiter, the retro survival-horror game Crow Country, and this week's Deep-Cut Spotlight: The Burning, one of the most brutal and underrated 1980s camp slasher movies.Inside this episode:May 7, 2014 — Nailbiter #1A modern horror comic favorite from Image Comics introduces Buckaroo, Oregon—a small town with a terrifying reputation for producing serial killers. If you love crime horror, serial killer stories, creepy small-town mysteries, and horror comics, this one belongs on your radar.Where to read (U.S., this week): Image Comics, Kindle/Comixology, and collected editions from Image and major booksellers.May 6, 2005 — House of WaxThe 2005 House of Wax remake brings glossy 2000s horror, slasher-movie chaos, and a gruesome wax museum setting together in one sticky nightmare. A cult favorite of the era, it mixes road-trip horror, trapped-tourist terror, melting bodies, and brutal setpieces.Where to watch (U.S., this week): Tubi; rent/buy on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.May 9, 1980 — Friday the 13thOne of the most important slasher movies of all time hits theaters and turns Camp Crystal Lake into horror history. From isolated cabins and doomed counselors to the birth of a franchise that would make Jason Voorhees a horror icon, Friday the 13th helped define the modern summer-camp slasher.Where to watch (U.S., this week): Paramount+; rent/buy on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.May 9, 2024 — Crow CountryThe indie horror game Crow Country brings retro survival-horror atmosphere back with eerie puzzles, abandoned amusement-park dread, old-school tension, and modern genre polish. Fans of Resident Evil-style horror games, PlayStation-era survival horror, creepy theme parks, and indie horror games should take note.Where to play (U.S., this week): Steam, PlayStation Store, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.Deep-Cut Spotlight — May 8, 1981: The BurningThis week's Deep-Cut Spotlight heads back to summer camp for The Burning, a grimy 1981 slasher packed with Tom Savini effects, campfire trauma, garden shears, and one of the most infamous raft massacre scenes in horror history. Overshadowed in the original slasher boom, it has since become a true cult horror classic and one of the essential 1980s camp slasher films.Where to watch (U.S., this week): Tubi, The Roku Channel, MGM+; rent/buy on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.Birthday Roll:Lance Henriksen, David Keith, Kevin Peter Hall, and Meg Foster.Weekly Recommendation — May 7, 1999: The MummyFor a lighter but still monster-packed pick, revisit The Mummy, the 1999 Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz adventure that revived Universal monster energy with cursed tombs, scarab swarms, ancient rituals, undead horror, and blockbuster pulp fun. It is the perfect date-window recommendation for fans of classic monster movies, action horror, Universal horror, and summer adventure films.Where to watch (U.S., this week): HBO Max, Peacock; rent/buy on Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.

The game sold over 1 million copies worldwide in only 48 hours after its April 17, 2026 launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and with early Nintendo Switch 2 support.Analytic Dreamz examines the key performance metrics: 1+ million pre-launch wishlists, top 5 pre-order rankings on the PlayStation Store in multiple regions, a 97% positive Steam user rating, 93.87% SteamDB score, and Metacritic scores in the 85-87 range with outlets like GameSpot awarding 9/10. Capcom's stock rose 10% post-launch, continuing the publisher's strong run of titles scoring 80+.The discussion covers the game's hybrid gameplay blending third-person shooting with real-time hacking puzzles, its near-future lunar station setting controlled by a rogue AI, and its main characters Hugh Williams and android companion Diana. With a focused single-player structure, no live-service elements, and playtimes of 10-12 hours for the main story or 18-20+ hours for completionists, Pragmata proves new IPs can still deliver elite commercial results.Analytic Dreamz explores how a playable demo, extensive marketing, multi-platform strategy including Switch 2, and positioning as fresh sci-fi action drove this success despite a development cycle spanning over four years with multiple delays. This segment highlights why Pragmata challenges industry trends around live-service dominance and reinforces Capcom's momentum in high-quality single-player releases. Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In the world of PlayStation, this past week was one of mystery. For instance, the director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy seems to be rather blatantly teasing a new Uncharted game on Instagram. But is he actually? Meanwhile, the promise of PlayStation on PC seems to have gone totally up in smoke, with the quiet removal of related iconography from the PSN. Could it be a sign of things to come? Plus, Sony's aggressive new position on the PlayStation Store continues to bear fruit, as even more games are deleted and unpublished that never belonged there to begin with. Are we finally getting the storefront we deserve? Other news this week includes intrigue surrounding an interview with Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki, changes incoming for PS5's UI, potential teases for remakes or remasters of Persona 1 and 2, the wet fart that was the Tales series' 30th anniversary, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Do you have to play the original Resident Evil trilogy on PSone to be a "real" fan, or do the remakes suffice?

This week on The Inner Gamer, we're breaking down the big shifts in how we play, pay for, and perceive our games. First, we spend some time in Pokémon Pokopia, the life-sim spin-off that might actually be the best-crafted Pokémon experience in years. It's Animal Crossing meets Minecraft, but with a surprisingly emotional "Ghibli-esque" heart. Then, we tackle the tech controversy of the year: Nvidia DLSS 5. Is "Neural Rendering" the next great leap for graphics, or is it just an "AI Slop" filter that erases the hard work of game artists? We dig into Jensen Huang's defense and why the community is revolting. We also dive into the discovery of Sony's dynamic pricing. From hidden tags in the API to personalized discounts based on your play habits, we discuss how the PlayStation Store is changing the "social contract" of game pricing and what it means for your wallet. Finally, we recap SXSW 2026. With the Austin Convention Center under construction, the festival went "decentralized." We talk about the new city-wide vibe, the "AI Apocaloptimism" panels, and the VR games with no dialogue trees. From Sony's dynamic pricing drama to Xbox's Project Helix and a heated console‑war showdown, The Game Deflators tackle the week's biggest gaming battles. This week on The Game Deflators, John and Ryan bring a mix of pickups, industry news, rumors, and retro gaming heat. The episode kicks off with recent game pickups and collectible finds, including some unexpected retro scores and additions to the shelf. From there, the guys dive into their current gaming sessions, sharing progress updates and the titles that have been dominating their playtime. The conversation shifts into Lego and gaming crossovers, including the newly surfaced Mario miniature and the rumored Lego PlayStation 1 set that has collectors buzzing. Whether it's legit or just another internet fever dream, the guys break down why this rumor has so much traction. Next, the crew turns to Microsoft's next‑generation Xbox initiative, Project Helix. Rather than dissecting technical specs, John and Ryan focus on the broader implications — how Helix fits into Microsoft's evolving ecosystem strategy, what it signals for the future of Xbox hardware, and why the industry is paying close attention. That naturally leads into a spirited discussion on the Console Wars, comparing the shifting dynamics between Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. With each platform carving out a different identity, the guys explore where the competition is heating up and where the lines are starting to blur. The episode then pivots to Sony's newly uncovered dynamic pricing tests, where PlayStation Store users across multiple regions are seeing different prices for the same games. The hosts unpack what this A/B testing could mean for digital storefronts, consumer trust, and the future of game pricing. Finally, the Inflation Deflation Challenge returns with a look at Cool Spot, the 7UP mascot platformer that's equal parts nostalgia and oddity. John and Ryan revisit the game's charm, gameplay, and current market value to determine whether this retro collectible is inflating or deflating in today's market.   00:00 Intro 02:28 Recent Game Pickups and Collectibles 12:11 Current Gaming Sessions and Progress 17:52 Lego and Gaming Updates: Mario Miniature and LEgo PS1 27:15 Microsoft's Next Generation Xbox Insights 30:09 The Console Wars: Xbox vs. PlayStation vs. Steam 35:24 Sony Dynamic Pricing in Gaming: A New Approach 49:35 Inflation Deflation Challenge: Cool Spot Review   Find us on TheGameDeflators.com Twitter - www.twitter.com/GameDeflators Facebook - www.facebook.com/TheGameDeflators Instagram - www.instagram.com/thegamedeflators   The views and opinions expressed on this channel are solely those of the author. Zwar meinte er konkret „Defender of the Crown“. This Day in Legal History: SCOTUS ImpeachmentOn March 12, 1804, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach Supreme Court Justice Samuel Chase. Chase, a Federalist appointed to the Court in 1796, had become a controversial figure during a period of intense political division between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. Members of Congress accused him of allowing his political views to influence his conduct on the bench. Much of the criticism focused on Chase's behavior during trials brought under the Alien and Sedition Acts, where he was alleged to have treated defendants and their lawyers unfairly. The House approved several articles of impeachment claiming that Chase's courtroom conduct showed bias and undermined the impartial administration of justice. The impeachment moved to the Senate for trial in early 1805, with Vice President Aaron Burr presiding over the proceedings. After weeks of arguments and testimony, the Senate failed to reach the two-thirds majority required for conviction on any article. As a result, Chase was acquitted and remained on the Supreme Court until his death in 1811. The outcome established an important precedent about the limits of impeachment as a tool against federal judges. Although Congress has the constitutional authority to impeach judges, the Chase trial suggested that impeachment should not be used simply because legislators disagree with a judge's legal or political views. In the years that followed, the case came to symbolize a commitment to judicial independence within the federal system. By declining to remove Chase from office, the Senate reinforced the idea that judges should be protected from political retaliation for their rulings. The episode remains the only time a sitting Supreme Court justice has ever been impeached by the House of Representatives. Today, the Chase impeachment is often cited in discussions about the balance between judicial accountability and the need for an independent judiciary.A federal antitrust case against Live Nation Entertainment has stalled as negotiations over a proposed settlement continue and several states resist the deal. The lawsuit, brought by the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division and numerous state attorneys general, alleges that Live Nation used monopolistic practices to dominate the live concert industry after acquiring Ticketmaster in 2010. During a recent court hearing, Arun Subramanian criticized both sides for failing to notify him earlier that settlement discussions were underway. He said the parties waited until just before trial to reveal that negotiations were close to completion, which he suggested was improper conduct. The proposed settlement would require Live Nation to allow competitors to sell tickets at some of its venues, limit certain ticket service fees to 15%, sell control of at least 13 amphitheaters, and loosen exclusivity arrangements. The company would also create a settlement fund exceeding $280 million to resolve state claims. However, attorneys general from many of the states involved have objected because the agreement does not require Live Nation to divest Ticketmaster. More than two dozen states have asked the court to declare a mistrial and restart proceedings later, though others support or are still evaluating the settlement.Judge Subramanian has not yet ruled on the mistrial request and instead urged the parties to continue negotiations immediately at the courthouse. He indicated that if a broader agreement cannot be reached soon, the court will determine the next procedural step. Live Nation maintains that the industry remains competitive and argues that the plaintiffs have selectively used data to support their allegations. The dispute highlights the complexity of resolving large antitrust cases involving both federal and state enforcement authorities.Judge Fumes As Live Nation Antitrust Trial Remains In Limbo - Law360ExxonMobil has announced plans to move its legal incorporation from New Jersey to Texas, citing the state's increasingly business-friendly legal environment. In a proxy statement to shareholders, the company explained that most of its senior leadership and corporate functions have already been located in Texas for decades, making the change largely formal rather than operational. Executives said Texas offers a more predictable, statute-based framework for corporate governance and regulation.A major factor behind the move is the creation of the Texas Business Court in 2024. Exxon also pointed to recent updates to the Texas Business Organizations Code that clarify standards for corporate decision-making and director conduct. Company leadership believes these reforms create a legal climate that supports economic growth and shareholder value.Exxon joins other companies that have relocated their corporate domicile to Texas, including Tesla and Coinbase. State officials have promoted these moves as evidence that Texas is becoming a strong alternative to traditional corporate hubs such as Delaware. Recent reforms include legislation codifying the Business Judgment Rule, which limits liability for corporate directors unless misconduct like fraud is proven.Texas has also launched broader initiatives to attract corporations, including approval for the upcoming Texas Stock Exchange, expected to begin operations in 2026. Supporters argue these efforts strengthen the state's reputation as a center for corporate formation and governance. Exxon's relocation reflects this broader trend of companies seeking jurisdictions with legal systems designed to favor corporate decision-making and reduce litigation risk.ExxonMobil Plans Move To Texas, Citing Biz-Friendly Milieu - Law360ExxonMobil Board unanimously recommends redomiciling the company from New Jersey to TexasMillions of PlayStation users have begun a major antitrust class action in the United Kingdom against Sony Interactive Entertainment, seeking about £5 billion in damages. The case is being heard before the Competition Appeal Tribunal and is expected to last around ten weeks. The lawsuit is led by consumer advocate Alex Neill, who represents millions of PlayStation customers. The claim alleges that Sony unlawfully controls the digital PlayStation ecosystem, limiting competition and forcing users to buy games and add-ons only through the company's online store. According to the plaintiffs, Sony pre-installs the PlayStation Store on its consoles and prevents users from installing alternative software or accessing other digital marketplaces. As a result, consumers allegedly become locked into Sony's platform and cannot shop for cheaper options. Lawyers for the consumers argue that these restrictions allow Sony to charge higher prices and maintain strong profit margins.A major issue in the case is how the relevant market should be defined. Sony plans to argue that its consoles and digital services operate as part of a single “systems market,” where hardware and software function as one integrated product. The plaintiffs disagree, claiming the console is only the initial purchase and that digital games and add-ons form separate “aftermarkets” where Sony exercises additional control. They argue consumers often cannot predict future costs for games or downloadable content when they buy the console, making them vulnerable to higher prices later.Sony is expected to argue that it simply created a platform that enables game publishers to sell products efficiently and that it is entitled to control access to its own storefront and intellectual property. The company maintains that these practices are legitimate business decisions rather than anticompetitive conduct. The tribunal will ultimately decide whether Sony's control of its platform amounts to unlawful market dominance under U.K. competition law.PlayStation Users Say Sony Made Them ‘Captives' In £5B Trial - Law360 UKPlayStation Officially Facing $2.7bn Lawsuit That Could Change It Forever This is a public episode. Laver PlayStation noget kriminelt? In today's Daily Fix:Layoffs have hit Electronic Arts again, this time focused on the studios supporting Battlefield 6. EA has laid off an unknown number of individuals across DICE, RIpple Effect, Motive Studios, and others. The layoffs come roughly five months after Battlefield 6's "record shattering" debut weekend that saw 7 million copies sold over three days. In other news, Sony is testing dynamic pricing on select titles on the PlayStation Store. Some users will see discounted prices on games depending on their previous purchase history and the region they live in. And finally, Slay the Spire 2 had an astonishing 574,638 peak concurrents on Steam over the weekend, just shy of fellow indie Hollow Knight: Silksong's 587,150 concurrents. Spire 2's developer, Mega Crit, thanked fans on social media, and vowed to best Silksong "one day."

For those with specific use cases, the PlayStation Portal has always been awesome. But Sony has been quietly bolstering the device over the last two years, and with its newest update, it's become more powerful than ever. Those with a PS+ Essential subscription can now purchase and stream nearly 3,000 games directly to the device without any sort of console tether, a major step-up for a peripheral once reliant on PS5. What's it all mean for the future of PlayStation? We discuss! Plus: New cross-buy tags on PSN indicate Sony is preparing some sort of PC launcher, dynamic pricing on the PlayStation Store has some customers in a tizzy, Dan Houser spills the beans on Rockstar's cancelled PS3-exclusive spy thriller Agent, Marvel looks to stick with Sony-owned Insomniac for a long time to come, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Does Colin have any reflections on GameFAQs as it turns 30? What constitutes a good in-game map? How has our gaming behavior changed over the years? Who's most likely to want to blow into the DualSense microphone to light fires in Ghost of Yotei, even if they don't have to? In today's Daily Fix:Sony's PlayStatio Portal is officially getting game streaming over the cloud today. The feature was previously in beta, but is now available to all users, provided you have the right PlayStation Plus membership. Game streaming via the cloud does not require the PS Portal to be connected to a PS5 console. In related news, code and graphics for a 'cross-buy' option has been found on the PlayStation Store. Sony hasn't announced anything yet, so many are speculating that this could mean dual PS5/PC purchases. And finally, the highly-anticipated Terminator 2D: NO FATE has been delayed yet again, but this time only about two weeks. The game is now slated for December 12, 2025.
