Before Kelsey became an entrepreneur, she was a journalist and in-house editor for national media brands like Elle, Good Housekeeping, and Reading Digest. It was during this time Kelsey learned the power of proper storytelling and which kinds of narratives that brands can lean into in order to connect to their consumer. Kelsey later identified a journalism vs. PR and editorial vs. marketing disconnect in how companies were attempting to tell their stories on social media. So when the pandemic struck and began to impact her flow of income, Kelsey took a leap of faith and began seeking to bridge this gap through the development of her company. In today's episode, we sit down with Kelsey Kloss, CEO of Kloss Creatives, a PR and social media company that focuses on elevating brands as industry thought leaders through strategic storytelling and narrative building. She shares with us her journey to becoming an Entreprenista, what she wishes we knew before starting a business, why telling a compelling story with your brand matters, tips on how to build a press portfolio, the keys to positioning yourself as a thought leader in your industry and much more! “I think sometimes there's this pressure to find your niche, even if it hasn't come organically quite yet. But I'm glad that we didn't try and force that. As I worked with clients. And as we grow our team, we naturally found what works best.” - Kelsey Kloss This week on Startups in Stilettos: Kelsey's motivation for starting her business (2:40) How Kelsey's marriage of both her background in journalism and PR helped create her agency (4:35) Kelsey shares how she initially experimented with her company (6:25) Kelsey discusses finding her clients and working within specialized industries (7:59) Kelsey breaks down the process for working with her agency (8:57) Kelsey's view on press right now and positioning yourself as an industry thought leader (11:08) Kelsey shares the key to getting press placements (16:03) Kelsey's wish to connect to her fellow Entreprenistas (18:53) The beauty of working with an agency (20:15) Stephanie and Jess talk the benefits of joining the Entreprenista community (21:58) Resources Mentioned: Help A Reporter Our favorite quotes: “You don't have to force your niche. You don't have to figure it out from the get-go. I'm really glad that our team tried a little bit of everything and saw what organically became our niche.” - Kelsey Kloss “No matter how strong of a relationship you have with a journalist, no matter how many times you take them out to lunch or send them free samples, they can't write about something that won't benefit their audience, or they can't produce a segment that doesn't benefit their audience.” - Kelsey Kloss “There were frustrations from both journalists and PR pros from opposite sides of the newsroom table, there were disconnects in how companies were telling their story on social media where maybe it was coming across 100% salesy, and they were forgetting about that more narrative part of their story that kind of comes into play when you're working in a more editorial environment. So bridging that gap is something that I wanted to do with Kloss Creatives. “ - Kelsey Kloss Join the Entreprenista League today at entreprenista.com/join. For new businesses or even businesses simply looking to expand, understanding the importance and benefits of setting a foundation that supports uninhibited growth is key. Carlyn's experience in manifesting success in this area comes directly through creating businesses of her own from the ground up. Through this work, she often gets questions like: How do I scale my business to the next level? How do I set the stage for a greater level of growth within my company? In today's special solo episode, Carlyn Bushman of Carlyn Bushman Consulting, takes us through her three key strategies for how to successfully scale your business to a level that works for you. After breaking down each secret for us, she goes on to share an essential exercise for implementing these tactics. Carlyn speaks on how these strategies have helped her while inspiring us to continue toward expanding in our evolution and beautifully weaving joy into the process. “Your business is you. People buy from people. We've heard that so many times. So as the leader of your business when you are thinking about scaling, do only what you can do.” - Carlyn Bushman This week on Startups in Stilettos: Carlyn shares the first key strategy: time blocking (2:15) Carlyn talks about how owning your calendar leads to the second key: CEO time (3:39) Carlyn explains the third and final key: delegation (6:41) Carlyn walks us through The Delegation Exercise (9:55) Carlyn speaks on how she personally uses the exercise (13:45) Carlyn provides a review of her three key strategies for scaling a business (15:12) Our Favorite Quotes: “So I would begin by designating a time on your calendar where you feel that you are at your absolute best. And don't think that you have to take it all at one time, you can block out CEO time, for 30 minutes, give yourself the luxury of just starting with 30 minutes.” - Carlyn Bushman “There's actually a lot less fun in doing this alone. It is so much more interesting when you can surround yourself with beautiful humans who are excited to contribute to your business. Don't take that away from them.” - Carlyn Bushman “When I say that there's also shiny object syndrome. And I am saying I can come up with lots of ideas. And I think I need to implement them all right now. Absolutely right now today because if I don't somebody else will, that's not actually the case, we can give them a home. So ‘No One Really Needs To Do It' could also be a great home for you to asterisk those beautiful ideas and say, ‘You know what, we're going to look at that in Q2 of 2024. I had to talk to Carlyn about her "Suc" in success! Her answer? Fear! But I wanted more from her so I made her ellaborate! Carlyn felt her calendar was running her instead of her running her calendar. So she asked the powers that be to help her find the space within the craziness and voila! Her wish was granted! Maybe a little too good. Now she fears not making end of the year goals, or having loss of revenue, the list goes on. She has found the courage to face her fears and is giving herself the grace to work through them and be ok with this season she is in. She shared a quote by Martin Luther King Jr, "Courage is the power of the mind to overcome fear." She has used that courage to fill the time with cave days and improving materials that she can use to better her business as well as her clients. AND she is learning to take her own advice and give herself grace throughout this process. "It is a muscle that needs to be worked." It truly is. If you have formed a habit of beating yourself up, it will take work to form the new habit of grace but it can be done! As we approach the summer season and for some a slow season, we can learn NOW how to get creative and plan NOW for Q3 and Q4. To be prepared for the holiday season and skip the stress! And guess what? You don't have to reinvent the wheel! Start with what you did last year and tweak it just a bit! Here are a couple of questions we asked today to get you thinking! "How can I make my business better?" "What risk are you willing to take today to move your business forward?" Sign up TODAY for Carlyn's 75 minute Planning Session! This is a GREAT way to be ready for the upcoming holiday season! Spots are limited! Remember! Be kind to yourself! Joe Dispenza: Rewired

I have the pleasure of speaking with Carlyn Bushman, founder of Carlyn Bushman Consulting, a consulting group that helps female entrepreneurs accelerate their businesses to create reliable, sustainable revenue streams. We discuss the critical pillars of building a successful business, including financials, sales, marketing, technology, and management. To succeed, it's crucial to understand your business's behavior and analyze alternative metrics beyond profit margin and subscriber numbers. As entrepreneurs, it's easy to get caught up in day-to-day tasks and lose sight of our long-term goals. She shares the potential negative impacts of not measuring progress and the costs it can have on your business's growth and success. Throughout the episode, Carlyn's wisdom and experience provided valuable insights for female entrepreneurs looking to build successful businesses. From her first experience with entrepreneurship to her mission of empowering women, her passion for helping others succeed shines through. What you'll hear in this episode: [3:15] Why Carlyn started her business and focussed on female entrepreneurs. [6:00] What is Carlyn's first memory of entrepreneurship in her own life and how has it impacted her career trajectory? [16:45] How do you start building, identifying, and monitoring your metrics? [20:40] How do you establish meaning behind these metrics and connect them to the direction of the business? [22:40] What qualitative, less structured metrics, do you recommend individuals track that may not have hard numbers associated with them? [29:15] How do you determine the root cause of a change in one of your key metrics? [31:30] What is the cost of not measuring your key metrics? [34:30] How do you help business owners overcome the feeling that their self-worth is the success of their business? Ronica had made it to the mecca of her industry––becoming a White House correspondent. But during her second pregnancy, she realized she wanted to prioritize her family, so she decided to start her own PR business. In today's episode, we sit down with Ronica Cleary, founder and CEO of Cleary Strategies, an agency that provides public relations, media placements, and crisis management to leaders and corporations. She shares why she left TV to start her business, the things she has learned, what hiring her for PR would look like for her clients, and so much more. “We help them [clients] earn media placements in television, radio, print, digital and podcast. So it just feels like the time that you can check that off your list and start something new and creative that fulfills you.'” - Ronica Cleary “I say motherhood––having three children––and running a business. After struggling with infertility for three years, all Jess Milanes wanted was to create a space to discuss openly and honestly about women's health issues, so she started a podcast. In today's episode, we sit down with Jess Milanes, founder of Smart Podcast Solutions, a podcast launch and management company. She shares how she knew it was time to leave corporate, what private podcasts are, the new management system she's using, and so much more. “I just loved the podcasting medium. The first time I heard the term "evergreen" from my coach, Carlyn Bushman, I was like, "whoa, back up, what does that mean?" When she explained it to me, it made so much sense! As a photographer, I have a library of assets that are literally untapped and endless! But I feel once a post a client, I can NEVER post them again! WRONG! Do you know we need to be told time and time again for something to sink in and take up residence in your brain! The need to "evergreen" your social content is extremely important! In this episode we discuss how to: -Reuse your photos -Reuse your captions -How often to do so! PLUS! Having a branding photographer that can help you build up your image library can simplify your life when those images can be used and "reused" on ALL marketing platforms such as: -Website -Marketing material -Social -Email Remember! Your content is NOT a one and done! Evergreening your content creates engagement! Consistency is key to staying relevant and this is a way to save you time and continue to be on the forefront of people's minds whithout the headache of finding new content all the time! I'll see you in Season 10 on April 17th!
