Have you recently started a business, or are you considering taking the leap to start? Do you find yourself alone or overwhelmed in the whirlwind of early challenges in your Entreprenista journey? Well, you’re in the right place - Startups in Stilettos is
The Startups in Stilettos podcast is an absolute must-listen for any woman looking to start her own business. This podcast provides invaluable advice and inspiration from other women who are already successfully navigating the world of entrepreneurship. As a listener, I highly recommend tuning in for a wealth of knowledge and support.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the diverse range of feminist speakers that are showcased. The Startups in Stilettos team does an excellent job of challenging norms and showcasing how successful women can truly be. It's incredibly empowering to listen to these inspiring women share their stories, both the highs and lows, as it makes you feel less alone on your own journey. The sense of connection and community that is fostered through this podcast is truly invaluable.
Another standout aspect of this podcast is its ability to inform and motivate listeners. The episodes are jam-packed with informative content that covers various aspects of starting a business, providing valuable insights into the very beginning phases. Whether it's learning about effective marketing strategies or tips for managing finances, there is always something new to learn from each episode. This motivation to keep pursuing one's business dreams and never give up is incredibly powerful.
While it's hard to find any major flaws with this podcast, one potential downside could be the limited range of topics covered. While the focus on starting a business is incredibly valuable, it would be great to see the show expand into other areas related to entrepreneurship such as scaling a business or managing a team. However, considering that this podcast is still relatively new, there is plenty of room for growth and diversification in future episodes.
In conclusion, The Startups in Stilettos podcast is an absolute gem for any aspiring female entrepreneur. With its diverse range of feminist speakers, informative content, and overall sense of community, this podcast provides invaluable advice and inspiration for women looking to start their own businesses. Stephanie and Jessica make an excellent moderating team, and I can't wait to continue learning and growing with this series.

“My biggest regret is [that] I kept this so close to the chest for a while, because a lot of people think, ‘Someone will steal my idea. People think it's a bad idea.' You almost want to wait to announce what you're doing until it's totally complete. And I always say, ‘If you're not embarrassed by your first product or service, you are not moving fast enough.' It needs to be roughly right and you need to get it out in the market.” After her son's first public diaper blowout, new mom Addie Gundry realized how inadequate and unsanitary traditional restroom changing tables are. She knew she could come up with a better solution for parents and babies. Today, Addie is an Entreprenista 100 Innovator of the Year award winner and the founder and CEO of Pluie, a company on a mission to change the table and provide a cleaner, more comfortable and convenient diaper changing experience for all babies, parents, and caregivers on the go. “One in five women with menopause have considered dropping out of work, have foregone promotion. And we are just at the top of our game and to take us out at 50 is not okay. It's about empowering women to be the best that we can possibly be.” When Dr. Sophia Yen co-founded Pandia Health, the idea was to provide free birth control delivery to anyone with insurance, from private options to Medicaid. But when Pandia Health started advertising their services, Dr. Yen was shocked to find that 60% of respondents didn't even have prescriptions—and that's when the company's true mission was born. Now, Pandia Health offers birth control prescriptions for just $30 once a year for an expert consultation with one of their on-staff physicians. Today, Dr. Yen serves as chief medical officer of Pandia Health—the only woman-founded, woman-led, and doctor-led birth control delivery service. Founded initially with birth control in mind, Pandia Health has since expanded to include treatments for menopause and acne. As a leading researcher in reproductive health, Dr. Yen is a passionate advocate for reproductive rights and has pioneered the “period's optional” concept. By utilizing AI to tailor hormonal care to individual needs, Pandia Health is committed to elevating hormonal health standards and empowering everyone to receive the personalized care they deserve. "The number one reason women invest in real estate is for generational wealth. It's about legacy.” By 2013 Liz Faircloth had been investing in real estate for many years while also building a business with her husband and working full time as a consultant. Though on paper she seemed to have it all—a successful passive income, a healthy baby, and a growing business, she still felt empty at the end of the day. After some discovery, she realized what she was missing was connecting with and serving others with education and community building. A decade later, Liz and her team now own and manage millions of dollars of real estate. Along with business partner Andresa Guidelli, Liz founded The Real Estate InvestHER where they have helped hundreds of women worldwide connect to one another, align their goals with the lifestyle they want to live, and take their business to the next level while building generational wealth. “Everything started because somebody started it. Somebody felt that need...Of course we can't conquer the world—we're not capable. But we can all do our part and contribute." Growing up in India, Pallavi Pande spent her childhood eating her meals off of banana leaves—a memory she cherished so much that she wanted to share it with her children…and the rest of the world. Today, Pallavi is the BIPOC mamapreneur and founder of Dtocs, a company that crafts sustainable single use tableware from fallen palm leaves. Recognizing the environmental impact of traditional disposable tableware, Pallavi drew from her Indian heritage and established Dtocs in 2019 to offer a greener alternative for both households and events. Beyond her innovative products, Pallavi is deeply committed to social causes, leveraging Dtocs to support community upliftment, women's empowerment, and education for underserved children. "Every time we get on stage, we have the opportunity to tell our story and to really be seen for what we're doing and what we know." As PR director for several enterprise software companies, part of Bobbie Carlton's job is getting executives on stage at conferences and events. But after 20 years in the business, she was tired of supporting solely male executives and knew it was time for her to take matters into her own hands when supporting women in business. Today, Bobbie is the founder of Carlton PR & Marketing, Innovation Nights, and Innovation Women. She is an engaging speaker who passionately advocates for public speaking as a catalyst for career and business success. A TEDx speaker and startup event host, she has addressed audiences at the United Nations and major conferences worldwide. “Show up dressed as your next level self. So, whoever that ‘her' is that you're projecting—whether that's five years or 10 years—show up as her. Embodying her, not just dressed as her… Proving to yourself like, ‘Hey, I just did it 10 years before I thought that I could do it.'” When Dr. Noor Ali moved back to the US after completing her medical training and starting her career as a surgeon in Bangladesh, she found herself unable to continue practicing medicine—and she felt like she'd completely lost her identity. “I never once thought about these other markets because it wasn't my experience yet. So you just never know where your business may lead you, even four months into it—it's all from listening.” When Jackie Hutson gave birth to her son a little over a decade ago, she thought she had prepared for everything. But when she found herself waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat, she realized she was totally ill-equipped to deal with this particular postpartum side effect. After a conversation with a friend about their shared experience with postpartum night sweats, Jackie made it her mission to create the perfect blend of comfort and functionality. The solution? Cooling pajamas crafted from mint-infused fabric, designed to help women experience drier nights and more restful sleep. Today, Jackie is the founder of Piper & Mint, a woman-led sleepwear brand addressing night sweats with groundbreaking hormone responsive designs. The brand features mint infused fabrics that enhance sleep quality for women who are navigating postpartum, perimenopause, menopause, undergoing cancer or IVF treatments, or simply run hot at night. As the managing partner at Atrium Apparel, an eight figure design and manufacturing company, Jackie is dedicated to transforming women's sleepwear, ensuring every woman enjoys restful nights with stylish and functional solutions. “I see that a lot of these young women are struggling to feel like their impact matters and I really want to create something that incorporates my own stories, my own journey, to show them that our choices matter. “We really have to get into this mindset of, ‘Maybe I'm not the best at sales, but I'm doing my best.' I'm going to get better every conversation I have. I'm going to learn with every conversation that I have. We're going to get better with every single call.” Candice D'Angelo spent the first year of her corporate career having doors slammed in her face and getting fired—six times! Though she eventually found some success, the experience made her realize how little interest she had in playing the big business game. That's when she became a corporate drop out and made it her mission to bring her skill set to the world of entrepreneurship. In 2018, Candice founded The Selling Lab in response to the need for a collective space dedicated to women seeking sales support to grow their self-made businesses. “Try to help them understand why we're doing what we're doing and let them see how it's going to benefit them in the long term, why we have to be compliant, why we have to be profitable, why we need to market our business. “We're being bombarded all day with so much content and noise. “Please, please. I need your attention here, here, here.” You really have to learn to think about who's listening. “In the beginning, if you don't have a team or a system or community around you, it's very easy to feel lost. “Commit yourself to the discipline and the habit of tracking what is going on. If you're doing that, you are already 10,000 steps ahead of any other business owner who does nothing. If you take this all or nothing approach of, ‘I can't afford a CPA, can't afford a bookkeeper, I can't afford to outsource this yet.' Guess whose job it is? “A lot of people have the misconception that PR is only intended for large brands, and that is so not true. PR is really a formula, right? It is building brand awareness, gaining visibility to earn credibility, which equals profitability.” Amy Roberson was climbing the corporate ladder when she realized that being gone for 12 hours a day and having a nanny raise her young son just wasn't the life she wanted for herself… And that's when she quit her role in medical sales and started her entrepreneurial journey—and she hasn't looked back since. Today, Amy is the founder of Chatterbox, a public relations and marketing agency. As a seasoned PR professional and juvenile brand expert, Amy shines in building brands and promoting products for families from pregnancy through childhood. With over 25 years of strategic communications experience, she has a profound understanding of how to engage busy parents effectively. Her agency has successfully placed clients in top media outlets, enhancing their visibility and credibility. Amy's passion for her work and her clients is evident in every campaign and strategy she develops. “I became hyper detailed on the processes and how the business should run. Any good business, this should be the baseline. Nothing else, like this is it. How does your business run without you? My team understands that everyone's on board, so they just move through the system systematically. And so if they have any questions, they pop their head up, ‘Hey, I wasn't able to find this,' someone can redirect them.” When Leslie Roberson decided to found a new business, she never set out to change the landscape of Black beauty supply stores. However, after mulling the idea over, she realized she might just be the perfect person to help fill that gap. Today, Leslie is the CEO and founder of B.B.C.—formerly the Black Beauty Collective—a premier beauty retail store and online marketplace for inclusive clean beauty. Leslie has leveraged her corporate recruiting experience at organizations like Meta and Wayfair and has championed over 50 diverse beauty brands that cater to the unique needs of women. “I've tried so many things, I've been in the feast and famine cycle. First you struggle to get clients or customers and then you struggle with your marketing to keep up with that. It's never ending. “Everything started because somebody started it. Somebody felt that need, ‘Okay, this is not there. Let me take care of this and let me contribute the way I can.' Of course we can't conquer the world—we're not capable. But we can all do our part and contribute in some ways and we have to start because I believe doing is powerful… because not doing is not.” Growing up in India, Pallavi Pande spent her childhood eating her meals off of banana leaves—a memory she cherished so much that she wanted to share it with her children… and the rest of the world. Today, Pallavi is a BIPOC mompreneur and founder of Dtocs, a company that crafts sustainable single use tableware from fallen palm leaves. “You know, it hurts. Nobody likes rejection and somebody didn't like you—whether it be in a relationship or in a job. But you have to figure out how to get up and dust yourself off and make it work. And that's a large part of what I try to impart to my clients, too, when I'm working with them.” After Billé Frazier was laid off from what she believed to be her “dream job,” she decided to take it as a sign from above that it was time to turn her side hustle into a full time career. Today, Billé is a keynote speaker, an author, and the founder of Follow the LeadHer, a coaching agency aimed at empowering women to align with their authentic selves beyond societal expectations. With over 20 years of experience in human resources, Billé has honed her skills in transformational change, conflict resolution, and diversity and inclusion. “Show up dressed as your next level self. So, whoever that ‘her' is that you're projecting—whether that's five years or 10 years—show up as her. “In the beginning, if you don't have a team or a system or community around you, it's very easy to feel lost. There are these amazing communities out there for amazing female founders that will really help guide and support you. So, the greatest lesson I learned pretty quickly was that you're never alone. Now, Lauren is the founder of Storylock Legal where she helps entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of intellectual property. “It's a crowded space. It's expensive. It takes time. And not everybody is an overnight success. So, I think it's important to know how to play with the rules of the game and how to set yourself in a way that is really going to differentiate you and… is going to serve you. I want to make sure that your formulation, that your packaging, that anything you develop is aligned with your vision.” When Emilie Mascarell first started at cult fragrance powerhouse Le Labo, they were still a small start up with just a handful of stores worldwide. “We really have to get into this mindset of, ‘Maybe I'm not the best at sales, but I'm doing my best.' I'm going to get better every conversation I have. I'm going to learn with every conversation that I have. “If you don't have the time or money to do it once, you definitely do not have the time or money to do it twice—so make sure you outsource to experts the first time.” When Heather Cox was pregnant with her first baby, she knew continuing to work was a non-negotiable—she just wasn't sure what, exactly, that would look like after her little one arrived. Now, 15 years and five kids later, Heather is the co-founder and president of Certify My Company, a service that facilitates diversity certifications for women, ethnic minority, LGBT, veteran, service disabled veteran, and disability owned businesses so that owners can put their time and energy into what matters most. With CMC, Heather and her co-founder have created the national leader in transforming Fortune 1000 supplier diversity programs into profit centers. Today, we sit down with Heather to talk about the importance of raising independent children, the process behind getting a diversity certification through CMC, and the importance of leveraging your diversity certification once you receive it. What we talk about: Early rising can be a key to success (03:33) Your time is a nonrenewable resource (06:54) Business owners should prioritize applying for a diversity certification (14:31) Organizing and building out an in-person calendar (17:24) A real life example of how diversity certification can transform a business (22:07) Connect with Heather: Certify My Company LinkedIn Members of our Entreprenista League get access to live Office Hours with top founders that have been on our show! “You're always focused on the big goal, and you don't celebrate the little wins in between. And that is so important. And for me, it's something that I had to learn, was to celebrate the little wins in between—because that's what keeps you going to the ultimate goal.” Harli Gawronski's eureka moment came to her during the COVID-19 pandemic: her true purpose was outside of corporate America. Though she had gained experience and knowledge as she made her way through the ranks, she realized that her voice wasn't being used to its fullest potential. Out of this period of self discovery, Harli's podcast was born. Inside the Bubble with Harli G was created for moms on-the-go and every day super women who excel at their 9-5s while nurturing their loved ones at home and contributing to their greater communities. Today, we're sitting down with Harli to talk about the inspiration for her podcast, the importance of real, purpose-driven self care, and focusing on the big goals. What we talk about: Crafting self-care time even in chaos (05:45) The importance of engagement and interaction (09:32) Setting an example for your kids (15:19) Mentorship can lead to greater success (18:49) Consistency is key (20:30) Connect with Harli: Instagram Inside the Bubble with Harli G Inside the Bubble podcast Members of our Entreprenista League get access to live Office Hours with top founders that have been on our show!
