Send us a textIn this episode, I want to push back on the whole “New Year, New You” thing. You are not a broken project. You don't need a completely new version of yourself. What you need is better support, kinder self-talk, and a simple plan you can actually stick to when life is messy. In this conversation, I walk you through:Why “New Year, New You” often starts from self-attackHow all-or-nothing thinking ruins January for so many peopleHow to create one simple identity sentence that guides your choicesHow to pick ONE anchor habit for the next 7 days (that still works in a busy week)How to use a “day-after routine” instead of beating yourself up after overeating or skipping workoutsI'll also give you 10 reflection questions you can use to close this year and open the next one in a calmer, smarter way.Your 10 Reflection QuestionsGrab a pen and answer these in your notes:What went better this year compared to last year with your health, food, movement or sleep?Where did you surprise yourself in a positive way?Where did “all-or-nothing” show up most often for you? What helped you get back on track when you fell off? What habits or routines made you feel strongest this year?Where did you still get in your own way? (thoughts, beliefs, patterns)What is one thing you want to do less of next year? What is one thing you want to do more of next year?Finish this sentence: “In 2026 I'm the woman who…” (or “I'm the person who…”)What is ONE key habit you want to focus on in January, even in a busy week?Examples of that one January habit:Two strength workouts per week7–8k steps most daysProtein at two meals per dayBedtime before 10:30 pm three nights per weekYou don't need to become a “new you” on January 1st.You just need to support the you who is already here.If you want extra accountability, send me your identity sentence and your January anchor habit on Instagram @personaltrainer_turo or email turo@fitmitturo.com. And if this episode helps you, it would mean a lot if you share it with a friend or leave a quick review for the show.
Have you ever wondered how someone can rise from repeated abandonment, three failed marriages, and the brink of homelessness to create a life of purpose and hope? Sometimes our greatest struggles become the foundation for our most meaningful work.In this deeply personal recording, I share the raw truth behind my transformation from a woman questioning her worth to someone dedicated to supporting solo mothers through their darkest moments. This isn't just another success story. It's a testament to what becomes possible when we stop running from our pain and start learning from it.After my third divorce, I faced a choice that would change everything. Instead of falling into bitterness or blame, I chose to look inward. What I discovered through a simple but powerful exercise changed not only how I saw myself, but how I approached every relationship moving forward. The process revealed baggage I didn't even know I was carrying and patterns I had been unconsciously repeating for years. From Rock Bottom to Radical FaithThe real test came when I found myself alone with two young sons, facing potential homelessness in Atlanta. What happened next required a leap of faith that still amazes me. A series of events so perfectly timed that they could only be described as miraculous. From an unexpected phone call to free plane tickets, from a stranger's generosity to a 900-mile move with everything we owned packed into a Toyota Camry. But this story isn't just about divine intervention. But it's also about the courage to act even when fear threatens to paralyze you. It's about recognizing that our children are more aware of our struggles than we think, and how they can become our greatest source of strength. What You'll DiscoverThrough this vulnerable sharing, you'll gain insights into:The power of taking responsibility for your part in failed relationships without falling into self-blameA practical exercise that can reveal unconscious patterns in your relationship choicesHow to recognize when fear is masquerading as wisdom and holding you backThe difference between being desperate and being ready to receive helpWhy your faith story matters and how it connects to something much bigger than your circumstancesThis experience became the catalyst for my devotional "Courage to Believe: 21 Day Devotional for Single Moms". This is a resource born from the realization that grace meets us exactly where we are, even in our messiest moments.A Message of HopeWhether you're freshly divorced, widowed, or simply raising children while feeling utterly alone, this story serves as a reminder that you're not walking this path by yourself. Your current chapter doesn't define your entire story.Sometimes the very experiences that break us open are the ones that prepare us to pour hope into others. If you've ever felt like you're barely keeping your head above water, or if you're ready to stop repeating old patterns and start writing a new story, this episode offers both practical wisdom and spiritual encouragement for the road ahead.Preorder Courage to Believe: 21 Day Devotional For Single Moms: https://tr.ee/C9KoEbJoin our Facebook group for support and faith connection: https://tr.ee/6IKiM6https://solomomstalk.mysites.io/podcast-2-copy/from-three-divorces-to-divine-purpose-how-god-rebuilt-my-broken-foundation This podcast is hosted by Captivate, try it yourself for free. Podcast Episode Summary – Courage in the Hard PlacesThis episode explores one of the most powerful truths in counseling and spiritual growth: courage rarely feels comfortable. Courage is not the absence of fear but the decision to step into difficult places with faith, honesty, and a willing heart. From childhood to adulthood, life presents moments that stretch us—learning new skills, entering unfamiliar spaces, facing painful experiences, or setting necessary boundaries. These moments form the foundation of who we become and who God is calling us to be.As we grow older, challenges often feel heavier, shaped by trauma, loss, and hard seasons. Yet the truth remains unchanged:Courage develops when we face our fears rather than avoid them. This episode highlights:How speaking truth, setting boundaries, and using self-control builds courageWhy shrinking ourselves to avoid conflict keeps us stuckHow God empowers us in our weaknessWhy therapy, healing, and spiritual growth require brave choicesHow fear can become a lifelong “thorn,” yet still a place where God's strength shinesListeners are reminded that Scripture repeatedly calls us to courage:Joshua 1:9 – Be strong and courageousPsalm 27:1 – The Lord is my light and salvation2 Timothy 1:7 – God has not given us a spirit of fearProverbs 28:1 – The righteous are bold as a lion1 Corinthians 16:13 – Stand firm and be strongEven in seasons of weakness, God's grace is enough. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12:7–10, our weakness becomes the place where Christ's power rests on us.The heart of the episode:God does not call us to fear—He calls us to freedom. And freedom often begins with one brave decision at a time.

How many times have you told yourself, "I will get back on track after the holidays, because right now is just impossible?” We're often convinced that we need the calendar to calm down—no more travel, no more parties, no more treats—before we can finally make progress toward our goals. But what if the "right time" to lose weight isn't a date on the calendar, but a decision you make today? In this episode, we tackle the myth that the holidays are the "worst time" to be a normal eater. We'll show you how to swap rigid food rules for real choices, so you can enjoy the season's joy, leave every event feeling light and proud, and step into the new year with trust, not regret. The goal isn't perfection; it's practice. Learn how to be a woman who trusts herself around food, no matter how chaotic the season gets. In This Episode, We Cover: The Myth of the Right Time: Why your brain loves to delay starting, and why waiting for "perfect conditions" is the biggest block to progress. Rules vs. Choices: How rigid dieting leads to secret overeating, and how flexible, normal eating patterns build long-term trust and health. The Plate Plan for Buffets: A simple strategy for navigating parties and buffets by treating the spread like a museum, not a target. Handling Family Food Pressure: How to set kind boundaries and honor the cook and your body, even when love shows up as an extra serving. Baking & Tasting Sanely: Simple plans for enjoying holiday treats and tasting your creations without accidentally eating a whole serving before dinner. Chaos Control: Strategies for travel days and schedule interruptions to keep you feeling steady with simple protein and produce anchors. The Day-After Reset: What to do when you overeat (you're human!): how to skip the shame spiral and get back to normal in one simple meal. Your Holiday Toolkit: Three powerful tools—Choices, Scientist Brain, and Good/Better/Best—to help you run your own game all season long. Key Concepts & Analogies: Learning to Swim: Progress comes from practicing in the shallow end with sparkly lights (the holidays!), not waiting for a quiet lab. The Museum Analogy: You don't carry the whole museum home. Visit a few favorite dishes with full attention, then leave with energy. Love as Sunshine: You can receive love (and thank the cook) without needing two extra scoops of food. Simple Action Step for This Week: Before your next holiday event, ask yourself these three questions: What do I want to enjoy? What is worth it? How do I want to feel later? Let your answers guide your choices. Remember, you don't need perfect days. You need a few steady choices, repeated. https://confidentbody.coach/tips/ BOOK: You Are A Miracle
In this episode of SLP Coffee Talk, Hallie chats with Libby Hill, a consultant speech-language pathologist with over 40 years of experience, about the fascinating connection between pathological demand avoidance (PDA) and selective mutism. Libby shares why students with PDA aren't just being “naughty,” how their brilliant yet challenging language profiles can fool us into expecting too much, and why creating the right environment is everything. You'll learn practical strategies like the “projects on pause folder” and why traditional therapy goals need to flip the script to focus on what the team needs to do, not what the student needs to fix. Whether you're hearing about PDA for the first time or looking to deepen your understanding, this episode reminds us that sometimes the best therapy plan is building rapport and following the student's lead.Bullet Points to Discuss: How a rain-soaked TV appearance opened the door to specializing in PDAKey differences between PDA and autism with extreme demand avoidanceThe connection between pathological demand avoidance and selective mutismWhy environment and relationship-building matter more than direct goalsPractical strategies like the “projects on pause folder” and flexible choicesHow to support students without triggering demand avoidanceHere's what we learned: PDA and selective mutism? They're more connected than you think.Getting the environment right beats direct intervention every time.Flexibility and choice look different for every student.Try the “projects on pause folder” - it removes pressure and sparks curiosity.Build rapport without an agenda, and watch progress happen. The right diagnosis matters - wrong strategies can do more harm than good.Learn more about Libby Hill: Website: www.smalltalk-ltd.co.ukFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/smalltalkspeechandlanguagetherapy Let's Talk Small Talk Podcast: https://letstalksmalltalk.transistor.fm Learn more about Hallie Sherman and SLP Elevate:

What do you care about these days? Caring is the currency of leadership, but here's the paradox: when we care too much about too many things, we can lose sight of the things that truly matter. So the question is: How do you direct your energy toward what you value, without becoming overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things you could care about? The most effective leaders are those who can connect deeply with their teams, foster trust, and create a sense of safety and belonging. They lead with empathy, not just strategy. But perfectionism and overfunctioning can lead us to feel like we need to be everything to everyone, at the expense of our well-being and, ultimately, the quality of our leadership. For many of us, the path to effective leadership begins with finding your enough. When you shift your lens to honoring your enough, you stay connected to your values and to the people and causes that matter most to you, without tipping into exhaustion. My guest today offers a model of what it's like to care deeply without losing yourself in the process, and of finding joy and community along the way. As we gear up for Valentine's Day, I couldn't help but think about the intriguing tensions of love and money and what you can do about it.Drawing wisdom from scripture and a timeless quote, we'll explore three common tensions in relationships and practical ideas to address them. Remember, when disagreements arise, our goal should always be progress, not victory. Join me in this journey of navigating love and money, as we strive for breakthroughs and blessings in our faithful financial stewardship. In this episode, John discusses: The impact of past experiences on present financial choicesHow different beliefs and behaviors shape relationshipsThe equation of love and money in relationshipsThree tensions of love and money and practical steps to address themKey Takeaways:In navigating the intersection of love and money, understanding the impact of past experiences on present financial behaviors is crucial, as your beliefs and behaviors are shaped by early experiences.Recognizing that “Love + Money / Our Differences = Tension”—such as differing values, communication challenges, and struggles over financial control—addressing them wisely can lead to progress, emphasizing shared values and fostering open communication. To overcome financial tensions, couples can find common ground by identifying shared priorities and values, engaging in conversations about the broader topics of money (rather than specific issues), and defining and involving each other in financial roles and responsibilities.Wisdom from scripture underscores the importance of avoiding the love of money, pursuing righteousness and contentment, and providing guidance on how to navigate love and money tensions in relationships.“Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, and I pray that it is filled with love: love for God, love for others, and love for those closest to you.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL!VISIT MONEY MADE FAITHFUL: https://moneymadefaithful.com/GET FREE RESOURCES when you join THE HUB: https://moneymadefaithful.com/resource-library-access/Landing-pageBOOK A WORKSHOP & DETAILS: https://moneymadefaithful.com/money-made-faithful-workshop-2/Landing-pageINVITE JOHN TO SPEAK at your conference, church, or event: https://moneymadefaithful.com/servicesSPECIAL SAVINGS ON JOHN'S BOOK, 'He Spends She Spends' and the small group guide: https://moneymadefaithful.com/shopFOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK: @MoneyMadeFaithfulFOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM: @MoneyMadeFaithfulIf this blessed you today, please Subscribe, Leave a Review, and Share with someone who you believe will benefit from this message!
