At Purdue University, Ms. Kubecka will discuss how technologists, especially the next generation of digital defenders, can be empowered to consider ethics in cybersecurity, privacy, and emerging technologies, and how they can use their power for good in tech. About the speaker: Ms. Chris Kubecka is a globally recognized cybersecurity expert with over two decades of experience, known for her pivotal role in digital defense and her commitment to ethical technology practices. She has established a formidable reputation for protecting both national and international cybersecurity interests, often at the highest levels of government and industry.Ms. Kubecka's career began with a strong technical foundation, rapidly advancing into leadership roles that demand both tactical acumen and strategic foresight. Her expertise spans cyber warfare, digital intelligence, artificial intelligence, and the development of robust cybersecurity frameworks, including those addressing the challenges of post-quantum computing.A thought leader in cybersecurity, Ms. Kubecka frequently contributes to international conferences, policy discussions, and academic forums. She is the author of several influential books, including Hack The World With OSINT, and has published numerous research papers on platforms like ResearchGate. Her work often explores the ethical implications of emerging technologies and the critical role of privacy in cybersecurity.Ms. Kubecka serves as the CEO and Founder of HypaSec NL, Senior Cybersecurity Advisor for Elemental Concept, and Chief Hacktress for Unit6 Technologies. She is also a former Distinguished Chair for the Middle East Institute's Cyber Security and Emerging Technology Program.Throughout her career, Ms. Kubecka has led critical operations that highlight the intersection of cybersecurity and human rights. During the conflict in Ukraine, she used her expertise to facilitate the evacuation of civilians, applying digital intelligence to support these missions. In Venezuela, her investigations uncovered the weaponization of government-backed applications, such as the Ven App and Patrica App, which are used for surveillance and repression of dissent. Her research revealed how these apps are being exploited to target citizens, leading to arrests, disappearances, and even deaths, underscoring the dire consequences of unethical technology use.Ms. Kubecka's background as a USAF aviator and former member of the USAF Space Command highlights her extensive commitment to defense in both the physical and digital realms. Her journey began at a young age, with her early technical skills leading to her first major hacking achievement at age ten.
At the onset of the 2022 war in Ukraine, how did the wiper malware attacks deployed by Russia impact civilians? To what extent does cyberwarfare coincide with information warfare in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian War? In part 2 of our conversation with Chris Kubecka, CEO of HypaSec, we discuss the importance of open-source intelligence and community support amidst global conflict. On Aug. 15, 2012, Saudi Arabia's national oil company, Saudi Aramco, was hit by one of the worst cyberattacks the world has ever seen. The result was a devastating wiping of data across 85% of Saudi Aramco's Microsoft-based technology, affecting tens of thousands of workstations. A decade later, and the frequency and severity of cyberattacks have increased, while tech policy in most of the Western world remains in its infancy. Cyber guru Chris Kubecka joins cohosts Nick Bradley and Mitch Mayne to do a retrospective on Shamoon including what happened and why.
A distressing escape from a nation at the outbreak of war. A race to the border filled with sharp turns, sleepless nights, and evasion from mercenary groups. This is the true story of cyberwarfare expert Chris Kubecka's exodus from Ukraine in early 2022. Follow Chris down the winding Ukrainian backroads in part 1 of her perilous story. We hear why Ukraine is concerned by a US-German deal over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The pipeline will bring gas from Russia to Germany, bypassing Ukraine, and Thierry Bros of the Paris Institute of International Studies explains the background. And we get reaction to the new agreement between the US and Germany aimed at preventing Russia from using the pipeline to exert political leverage over Europe, from Ukrainian politician Hanna Hopko, who previously chaired the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs in Kiev. Also in the programme, the Saudi Aramco oil giant has been hacked, and now faces demands to pay a ransom to avoid stolen data being released. We find out more from Chris Kubecka, who is a computer security researcher who got Saudi Aramco's network back up and running after a cyber attack in 2012. A day before the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, the BBC's Sasha Twining reports on what the event has cost Japan, and how much of that money it is likely to be able to recoup. Plus, we hear from Caroline Casey, who has successfully persuaded the chief executives of 500 major corporations to commit their boards to disability inclusion, and is discussing the achievement at this year's One Young World Summit.
Ron and Cyndi Gula interview Chris Kubecka about her time at Saudi Aramco performing incident response against Iranian intrusions, the state of Middle East cybersecurity relations, how the cybersecurity conference scene has changed over the last few years and how we can teach more people about #DataCare and inspire them to join this exciting career field. Chris is the Distinguished Chair at the Middle East Institute Cyber Program and consults with a variety of world governments on cybersecurity policy.
MEI’s Iulia-Sabina Joja and Chris Kubecka join host Alistair Taylor to discuss the range of cyber threats facing Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region, and how the EU is working to address them.

Cyber security researcher Chris Kubecka shares the story of how the Iranian government attempted for over two years to recruit her to come to Iran and teach the skills needed to hack critical infrastructure targets--until the FBI stepped in. Steph Shample of MEI’s Cyber program guest hosts this week’s special episode.
This week Chris Kubecka joins the show. We focused on leveraging OSINT in security research. My three main takeaways were how she used OSINT to find Boeing's dev systems. As well how she uses code search engines to find a systems running a piece of known vulnerable code and why its worthwhile doing security research out of the Netherlands when your target likes to sue you into silence.
Scott Coleman, John Fleming, and Chris Kubecka join guest host Michael Sexton, Director of MEI's Cyber Program, to discuss critical infrastructure security in the MENA region. What is critical infrastructure security and what are the broader implications on cybersecurity in the Middle East?

From pawning the Department of Justice at the age of ten to protecting Saudi Aramco in the wake of cyberattacks, Chris Kubecka leads an inimitable life. Now the founder and CEO of HypaSec, Kubecka grew up banned from using computers—as ordered by the federal government. Thanks to a moral waiver from the Air Force, Kubecka developed deep technical knowledge from serving in the Air Mobility Command and Space Command. She subsequently fostered a deep passion for offensive and defensive methods in IT, IoT, ICS, and embedded systems, for which Saudi Aramco recruited her to protect its system. In this episode, Caroline Wong joins Kubecka on a wild regaling of her life in security.
In this episode of the Cybrary Podcast, we sit down with Chris Kubecka the owner and CEO of HypaSec. Aircraft manufacturer Boeing's insecure networks leave the company--and potentially its aircraft--at risk of exploitation. Security researcher Chris Kubecka uncovered these threats in April, and new reporting by CSO's J.M. Porup reveals little has been done to patch these vulnerabilities. They both join Juliet to discuss how Kubecka discovered this information and what it means for national security and passenger safety.
