In this episode of Chasing Elephants, Jeff sits down with LifeWay Students Specialist Chad Higgins to talk about the newly released book Define the Relationship: Growing a Parent Ministry that Brings Families and Churches Together, co-written by Higgins and Zac Workun. This conversation goes beyond strategy, it explores the heart of why the church must redefine how it partners with parents.Jeff and Chad dive into research-based insights showing that parents are ready for more, more connection, more guidance, more collaboration with the church. But often, leaders don't know how to initiate or sustain that relationship.

On the podcast this week, a panel of experts discuss the question: Does the future have a Church? In an increasingly unstable and dark world, will people return to or at least reconsider belief, or are we continuing to hear the ‘melancholy, long, withdrawing roar' of faith? The discussion was recorded in London on 26 November at the 2024 Theos Annual Lecture. The panelists were: Daisy Scalchi, Head of Religion and Ethics, BBC Television Justin Brierley, broadcaster, author, and speaker Madeleine Davies, senior writer for the Church Times Bishop Mike Royal, General Secretary of Churches Together in England Mary Harrington, writer and author of Feminism Against Progress The discussion was chaired by Nick Spencer, Senior Fellow at Theos. The director of Theos, Chine McDonald, introduced and closed the event. https://www.theosthinktank.co.uk Try 10 issues of the Church Times for £10 or get two months access to our website and apps, also for £10. Martin Luther King Jr's memory is revered, but in his time he was a radical, controversial figure, sharply critical of militarism, inequality and poverty, and racism in the US and elsewhere. Marking 60 years since Dr King spoke at St Paul's Cathedral, Richard Reddie will explore his profound and subtle theology, philosophy and politics, and the challenge he leaves us to work for justice in our own time. Richard Reddie is the Director of Justice and Inclusion at Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. He is the author of 'Martin Luther King Jr: History Maker' and 'Abolition!: The Struggle to Abolish Slavery in the British Colonies', and editor of Race for Justice.

Dr. Jeremy Kimble joins me today to talk about Synergy. It literally means the combined power of a group working together that is greater than the power of individuals working separately. This initiative aims to help students plan strategically to graduate from Cedarville, go together with others from this place, and invest their energies, talents, and efforts in planting, revitalizing, and multiplying churches. As Cedarville graduates join up with other church members who are equipped to do the work of ministry, the combined effect of their efforts will accomplish, by God's grace, abundantly more than only a couple of pastors in a church doing all of the work on their own. Thus, the goal is to equip students to leave Cedarville University ready to help establish and strengthen local churches throughout the nation and around the world.

Ecclesiastes 7:21-29 21 Don't listen to everything people say, or you might hear your servant insulting you. 22 You know that many times you have insulted others. 23 I used wisdom to test all these things. I wanted to be wise, but it was too hard for me. 24 I cannot understand why things are as they are. It is too hard for anyone to understand. 25 I studied and tried very hard to find wisdom, to find some meaning for everything. I learned that it is foolish to be evil, and it is crazy to act like a fool. 26 I found that some women are worse than death and are as dangerous as traps. Their love is like a net, and their arms hold men like chains. A man who pleases God will be saved from them, but a sinner will be caught by them. 27 The Teacher says, "This is what I learned: I added all these things together to find some meaning for everything. 28 While I was searching, I did not find one man among the thousands I found. Nor did I find a woman among all these. 29 One thing I have learned: God made people good, but they have found all kinds of ways to be bad." As part of Churches Together, Andrew Junaid joins us today
Andy talks with Richard Eason who after an early career in IT and technology became involved ‘social action' including setting up YMCA Ashford, Kent, being chair of Ashford Together, the social action charity of Churches Together in Ashford, and serving as part of the leadership of Pneuma Church, Ashford. They discuss whether social action means missing out on sharing ‘the Gospel'? They also discuss a leadership conference in the United States, where the host church has engaged in some pioneering work in seeing transformation in its community. Today's guest joins us 6 months into new role as CEO of Cytûn, Churches Together, Wales. He embarks on a key ecumenical role at a challenging time: fewer people in Wales consider themselves Christian, there's a slump in congregations and churches face a crossroads. But Siôn Brynach has put out a clarion call to the organisation to consider how ecumenicalism can serve Welsh Society. Ordained a Priest in 2022, and currently serving as a self-supporting associate priest at Christ Church, Roath Park Lake, Siôn Brynach has followed a huge range of career paths: politics in Plaid Cymru, communications and public affairs, at the Arts Council of Wales, Hanfod Cymru, the BBC and the Church in Wales. Recent years have been marked by trauma, from a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2018, to a horrific collision in 2020, which left his wife, Cathrin, with life-changing injuries. But Siôn Brynach's faith has been his sustenance, and he now encourages those he serves to ‘look ahead', to see what is possible. Jonathan Thomas speaks to Siôn about his life, work, and hopes for the future of the ecumenical movement in Wales.
God is shaking things up! That's according to the general secretary of Churches Together in England. Bishop Mike Royal was selected to pray for King Charles at the coronation and has been dubbed a “Christian man of influence”, but he's far more concerned with how the Church works together for the good of society than how others see him. Moreover, he's worried there's "too much cult of personality in the Church". In this interview with Premier Christianity's Emma Fowle, Bishop Mike talks about his pioneering work with Christian charities Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) and the Cinnamon Network, hits back at the false dichotomy between sharing the gospel with words and actions, and predicts what the Church might look like in 2033. Imagine Peace was a major outreach throughout the city of Liverpool during the week of Eurovision this year. Supported by leaders of all the Christian denominations in the area, and led by the Evangelism and Growth Team of the Methodist Church in Britain, there were opportunities for meaningful conversations, and times of prayer throughout the week of Eurovision. One of the main events was a Churches Together in Merseyside ecumenical service of worship in words and music, held in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Christ the King - and on today's programme I bring you some highlights of a 2-hour service - asking us - whoever and wherever we are - to imagine ..... peace. There's a notice board too - email items for the notice board to judithley@manxradio.com

As part of Churches Together in Bromley, David Lemmon brings us a teaching on Matthew 4:12-22, Jesus begins His Ministry.
Roy welcomes back Canon Aled Edwards, an Anglican priest who's spent more than half of his ministry among the politicians and officials of what's now the Welsh Parliament, the Senedd. At the same time, he's worked for large numbers of refugees and asylum seekers, fought against racism and other kinds of discrimination, and helped forge links between different religious communities. And he's done so both as a Christian minister, and as a political anorak, who once spent a fortnight's holiday in California campaigning for Barak Obama. At the end of March, Canon Aled Edwards will move on after 23 years with Cytûn, Churches Together in Wales, the last 17 as its chief executive – a fitting guest in this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
This week we had a one-off special service where multiple churches from around Welling joined together to hear from the Word and worship God together. Our Sermon will be from Romans 12:1-2 - A Living Sacrifice.
Episode 91 - Churches Together For The City (feat. Pastor Glenn led us off with a reminder of our Mission and Vision as a church and a call to be Churches Together in the Sea-to-Sky region. Next, our Ministry Team Leaders presented plans for this new season that are very encouraging.
Shermara Fletcher might be the Principal Officer for Pentecostal, Charismatic and Multi-cultural Relations at Churches Together in England, but she's also learned to appreciate - and even embrace - other Christian traditions. In this interview with Premier Christianity's Sam Hailes, Shermara explains how Anglo-Catholic spirituality is nourishing her right now. She also opens up about her experience ministering alongside the homeless in Birmingham and London, and reflects on how her deeply Christian upbringing has shaped her life. Shermara, who has been invited to address politicians on the impact of Brexit on homeless women, says: "We don't worship politics, but the reality is policy governs and shapes our lives and the decisions we're able to make. The text talks about praying for leaders who are in charge, so I don't think we can detach from the political conversation. We should be pointing to morality and showing a different way, but not disengaging from the conversation altogether." About our GuestJessica Hooten Wilson is the Louise Cowan Scholar in Residence at the University of Dallas. She is the author of numerous books, including The Scandal of Holiness: Renewing Your Imagination in the Company of Literary Saints, published in 2022 by Brazos Press. Her book, Giving the Devil his Due: Flannery O'Connor and The Brothers Karamazov, received a 2018 Christianity Today Book of the Year Award in the Culture & the Arts.Award-winning author Jessica Hooten Wilson explains that learning to hear the call of holiness requires cultivating a new imagination--one rooted in the act of reading. Learning to read with eyes attuned to the saints who populate great works of literature moves us toward holiness, where God opens up a way of living that extends far beyond what we can conjure for ourselves. Literature has the power to show us what a holy life looks like, and these depictions often scandalize even as they shape our imagination. As such, careful reading becomes a sort of countercultural spiritual discipline. To hear about Jessica's newest book, Scandal of Holiness, here is a recorded lecture at Union University. Show NotesThis lively and often deeply contemplative conversation with guest Jessica Hooten Wilson offers not only reasons for choosing Classical Education, but also simple and easy ways to support sanctity and truth in the joy of raising families.
