Due to unforeseen life circumstances, we had to delay the start of Jillian's season. Sorry! To make it up to you we are unlocking our first bonus episode for patrons, in which Myles McNutt joins us to discuss Coming Out Colton. We will be back November 11th with Jillian's season. If you like this episode and want to become a patron, visit us at patreon.com/bachelorinretrospect In the first bonus episode for patrons, Carrie and Annemarie are joined by Episodic Medium editor-in-chief and friend of the pod Myles McNutt to discuss a controversial Bachelor Nation topic that's critical to unpacking this heteronormative show's uneasy relationship with queerness: the accidental first gay bachelor, Colton Underwood. They discuss Colton coming out immediately after reprehensible behavior toward his winner, his deeply cynical Netflix series, and selling pens on Instagram when you're a stalker.

This week, Jason is joined by reality TV personality, activist, entrepreneur, New York Times best-selling author, former professional athlete, producer, and podcast host Colton Brown Underwood! Many may know Colton from his time spent with Bachelor Nation having been a contestant on the Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, and being the leading man on season 23 of the Bachelor. In 2021, years after his time as The Bachelor, Colton shared with the world that he was gay and showcased his trials and tribulations through his own Netflix series “Coming Out Colton.” In the years since coming out publicly, he met and married his now husband Jordan and the two of them embarked on a journey of becoming parents. He is an advocate for the LGBTQIA community, a philanthropist, and has leveraged his success to give back to matters that have impacted him, his community, and loved ones though the Legacy Foundation. Colton gives insight to what the payment looked like as a professional athlete, what injury ended his football career, what his attitude was going into The Bachelorette, how Bachelor Nation builds beasts, how he was able to work around the two suitcase rule, how an energy healer explained his constant state of flight, and what loopholes he took advantage of during filming. Colton also reveals his best advice for leveraging your authentic self, which deal he was most frustrated with, overcoming his rock bottom moment, how Coming Out Colton came to be and it being the push he needed, his ability for storytelling, and behind the scenes of his fertility journey. Since when has he been independent financially? Which contract would he never sign again? What is his goal with his production company? Colton reveals all that and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! Does letting go and letting God mean that one day you'll suddenly wake up and not be gay? Can you let your guard down with God or will he take advantage of that vulnerability? Colton Underwood's Netflix series “Coming Out Colton” forces us to revisit our own faith and question what or whom gives us hope when we're most hopeless.
After this most recent Supreme Court session, there were two buzz words that seemed to be on the lips of everyone: Christian theocracy. If you have been listening to my show for a while, then you know that issues of faith are often something we discuss and I wanted to bring in someone who has experienced this personally and professionally. Fresh from Denver, raised in Oklahoma, Ben Mann (they/them) "Pastor Ben" has spent a career-long obsession with growing dynamic campaigns and ministries. From a humble beginning of raising funds for a small adoption agency to recently filming the international smash Coming Out Colton (available on Netflix), Pastor Ben considers their top value a commitment to excellence. Presently, they serve as Senior Pastor at the Metropolitan Community Church of the Rockies, part of the MCC network, an international gathering of churches founded within the LGBTQ+ community. Here, they share the joy of Christ's vision with an intergenerational, diverse congregation that seeks to serve the marginalized. In addition to this work, they serve as a Chaplain at the University of Colorado Hospital, where they counsel and support families in the Transgender Clinic and beyond. Beyond the persistent pursuit of learning and justice, Pastor Ben is a pet parent to Aster (their rescue dog) and an avid fan of karaoke. When not working they enjoy spending time with friends and family, as well as cooking and hosting dinner parties. If they could share one mantra, they would reiterate something that a former boss used to emphasize, "Bloom where you're planted." Our very FIRST guest on the creating meaningful work is Reverened Nicole Garcia. She is the first queer transgender Latina ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as well as a working therapist. I first found out about Reverened Nicole from the Netfliex docuseries Coming Out Colton. Yes, there's a lot of controversy surrounding Colton as an ex NFL player cis genered white man getting a Netflix series, while most are cast aside. Reverened Nicole shows up in an episode about faith. Reverened Nicole shoots him straight. Telling him to own up to the pain he caused his ex girlfriend and figureout who he is. Her straightforward yet loving approach had me screaming at my TV... curious about this amazing woman and how I could talk with her. I found out she was the first queer transgender Latina ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as well as a working therapist. I gained so much insight from this conversation with Nicole. Her story of radically accepting herself is something we can all learn from, no matter what our experience. It's never too late to own who you are. It's never too late to step into your true, authentic self. When we do, that is where our most genuine, creative and impactful work comes from and Rev Nicole embodies that to her core. PS: If you have kiddos around, there is an F-bomb or two dropped in this one! Find out more about Reverened Nicole on her website here.Follow, subscribe and leave us a review! We hope you're up-to-date on American trivia, because today's episode sees Marc MacNamara testing an adorably clueless John Hill on some basic USA-centric quiz questions before both hosts dive into a steaming round of Thot Topics - or Thotty Toppies as John likes to call them. The hosts talk all about RuPaul's Drag Race season 14, the casting of Maddy Morphosis, Gus Kenworthy revealing that he hooked up with Diego Sans during an episode of Coming Out Colton, if that hookup is what ended Diego and Marc's relationship, Crunch Fitness telling its members to stop boinking in the men's locker room, and what certain Outback Steakhouse servers are doing behind closed doors. John and Marc are then joined by Marvin Cortes (America's Next Top Model) and Reign (Get. Away.) for an intense conversation on playing it straight, secret queer codewords, what it was like being gay in the military before Don't Ask Don't Tell was repealed, the fear of coming out to your family, people threatening to out Marvin before he was officially out of the closet, being treated differently over your sexuality, and if Reign will collab with John for his new OnlyFans page. After a quick game of The Whore You Know, the hosts close out the show by calling up famed celebrity stylist and longtime Janet Jackson collaborator Wayne Scot Lukas for a quick tea-spilling session on Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Tina Turner, and other iconic celebs. TW: pregnancy loss / miscarriage. This convo has been a long(ish) time coming, but I (AMQ here!) just wanted to make sure I was in a place where I was ready to tell this part of my story. We shoot the shit a bit before getting serious, but buckle up, buttercups! This conversation gets candid some may even feel controversial. But it was necessary. Trying to conceive at 35+ is stressful enough as is, with everyone coming at you about how I may have waited too long and yadda yadda. And then to navigate a miscarriage, it was a lot. I had to work through a lot to get to a space where I was ready for motherhood. And I get real and raw about that. We also touch on why language and messaging around ttc, pregnancy loss and miscarriage is so important. We truly feel more discussions like this need to happen so more women realize they aren't alone in this (sometimes challenging) journey. As always, thank you for being here. It will always be important to us to share how we navigate the seasons of life and how we can find connection to ourselves and one another through it all. You never have to walk the hard chapters alone! Credit where credit is due, boo! Coming Out Colton, Netflix
