Teacher messages are foundational to building strong, positive relationships with students. These relationships are critical for creating an environment where students feel supported, motivated, and capable of achieving success. When students trust and feel connected to their teachers, they are more likely to engage deeply in their learning, take academic risks, and ultimately achieve success. AR Rahman is known as the ‘Mozart of Madras’ and for good reason. He has won two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, 15 Filmfare Awards. Perhaps most incredibly he has crossed film genres, languages, nationality and film industries across the globe, conquering Bollywood, Hollywood and Kollywood. It is 10 years since the debut of Slumdog Millionaire but Rahman’s songs still linger in the imagination. Rahman is prolific and instinctual; working not just as a musical director but now as producer, director, teacher and visual artist. To each project he brings a touch of magic whether it be his latest virtual reality film Musk, his incredible catalogue of Hindi and Tamil film scores, global pop hits such as Jai Ho or in his superstar collaborations such as Super Heavy with Mick Jagger, Dave Stuart, Joss Stone and Damian Marley. Lifelong fan, producer and DJ Bobby Friction meets Rahman as he reaches the end of his 2018 US tour in Houston, Texas. We learn how the melodies he creates alone in the quiet of night are recreated by a cast of India’s greatest singers and musicians and performed to entertain thousands across America. For Rahman, and Bobby, music is God. Spirituality is deeply entwined with the process of composition for both men and together they will explore some of the tracks which resonate with their belief in the true power of music.
A little bit of news this week but John and DJ couldn't wait to talk about two things. The Mandalorian and Image Comics new book Crossover. If you are reading this and you haven't picked up Crossover yet do yourself a favor and get it NOW. It's a comic book readers dream book. Plus they talk about a bunch of other great books a bunch of tangents and oh yea, another "Last Jedi". Get in the store and check it all out...

Making connections with students is harder than ever, but as we all know, it’s the foundation for everything that happens in the classroom. Engagement doesn’t happen, academic success doesn’t happen unless students feel connected. Join me as I build on the work of educators John Spencer and Dave Stuart to help us make those important connections in the classroom while we teach remotely. When teaching from a distance — either 6 feet away or remotely — it can feel challenging to get to know your students well. "The top thing we can do with overwhelm is return to our strength, return to our knowledge, return to our experience. Every teacher in the world knows ways of connecting with students and humanizing a classroom. These things don't perfectly translate to a classroom with social distance or an online learning space...but they do transfer." -Dave Stuart, Jr. Relationships aren’t EVERYTHING, but they ARE “one of the most valuable currencies” in the classroom, according to Dave Stuart Jr. Listen in as we talk about practical ways you can make sure your students feel known, valued, respected, and safe. Dear Teacher, Tell me if this sounds familiar. You have a roster full of students who are at differing levels of ability. And it’s your job to get ALL of them to an acceptable level of proficiency. As the year unfolds, to do this, you realize that you need to stay at work a little later, take home a few more assignments to grade, get up just a little earlier in the morning to be in the classroom for a few more minutes to get it all done. Tired, and leaving your classroom after the sun has set for the third day in a row, in a flash of sudden anger, you say, “Am I allowed to have a life!?” In this episode, you will hear from teacher, content creator, and professional developer, Dave Stuart Jr. Several years ago, Dave started a blog that turned into a website, which has been turned into a couple of books, and eventually leading to the development of a couple of online courses. Believe it or not, a few years into the job, Dave actually quit teaching! For many of us, this is hard to believe. But after you hear his story, you will get a clearer picture of the why behind Dave's writing, speaking, and professional development workshops. You will hear about how Dave figured out how to set limits on himself, two teacher archetypes to avoid, and why you should write an Everest Statement right now. Life doesn't always work out the way you planned. Just because you didn't become a doctor or a lawyer doesn't mean you can't do great things with your career. Today's guest, Dave Stuart, is a perfect example of this philosophy. Dave decided back in his college days that medicine was not the path for him. Today, he works as a history teacher by day and writes a blog with almost a half million readers by night. His blog is focused on helping teachers engage and impact the lives of their students. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/life-on-brand/message

bomphcast.com/project/038 Dave Stuart is a humble man who has fallen into a professional DJ and booking agent life through sheer enjoyment of electronic music. This quote from his RA profile is all the info you need for his Bomphcast: “The music I play is the music I love, pure & simple, I play from the heart…I strive to find the most beautiful deep melodic house & techno for my DJ sets, sometimes driving, sometimes deep & dubby”. As well as being very well known in the Australian scene, Dave has also played the European MOXXOM festival in Dresden and in multiple Berlin haunts such as Tresor, Golden Gate and Chalet. His booking agent side sees him curating the regular club night Something Else at the Burdekin in Sydney where many prolific DJ's have made appearances thanks to him.
Dave Stuart is a nothing short of a stalwart of the Sydney house and techno scene. Dave has been working hard over the past couple of years on a weekly night here in Sydney called La Famiglia, which has recently, as of about two weekends ago, rebranded itself as ‘Something Else’. Something Else celebrated its launch on 25th October with Red Rack’em at the helm, with support from local legends Simon Caldwell & Magda Bytnerowicz. That was quickly followed up a week later with none other than Ian Pooley as headliner… and there are no signs of the big names slowing down at Something Else anytime soon. Follow Something Else on Facebook for more details bit.ly/SomethingElse-FB Back to Dave… Along with running a weekly party and DJ-ing at that party, Dave has regularly travelled to Europe taking his unique brand of techno, dub techno and deep techno across the world. This year, Dave based himself in Berlin for around 6 months and enjoyed time playing regularly in Berlin at Tresor / Globus, Wanted & Sankt Veit at Chalet, Golden Gate, Parallel at Griessmuehle, Moxxom Festival (Gorlitz) & hopped across to Spain to play at Macarena Club in Barcelona and +afterhours in Malta. Of course, Dave has played at every big name club in and around Sydney, plus festivals such as Subsonic Music Festival. This time around Dave has produced an immaculate vinyl-only mix of deep, dub and acidy goodness… For a full tracklist head to SoundCloud... http://soundcloud.com/deephouseau/107-dave-stuart

We live in troubled times (again). Bumped into a Media Network programme recorded in December 1989. We were reporting on the media surrounding the US intervention into Panama to capture Manuel Noriega. Listener Al Quagleri tipped us off after monitoring airforce communications from in Panama. Lou Josephs helped us unravel the media plan, which revealed the involvement of Pentagon backed Radio Impacto as well as extended broadcasts from the Spanish service of Voice of America. We also looked at the serious situation developing in Romania and the involvement of Radio Free Europe and the plans to build a 34 million dollar shortwave facility in Israel. Note the comment that people in Europe no longer listen to shortwave, so that FM was important. We called KNLS in, Anchor Point, Alaska and talked to Dave Stuart about the volcano that's been erupting. Arthur Cushen sent in Christmas greetings. And there are changes to report at Radio Australia. They were celebrating 50 years of their existence. Andy Sennitt was celebrating the new office in Amsterdam. I think this is a good example of a listener-driven media show, about 6 years before the Internet started appearing in peoples' homes. This was the era when radio was the Internet.
