Mortgage rates are spiking—but the real danger isn't just the Fed. It's China. In this episode, we break down how the global selloff in U.S. Treasuries, triggered by President Trump's tariff policy, is rattling confidence in America's debt. But the bigger threat? China and other foreign nations are major holders of U.S. mortgage-backed securities—and they may start dumping them. If they do, it could send mortgage rates soaring and derail the spring housing market just as it's trying to recover. We unpack the financial fallout already in motion, and what it means for your wallet. Subscribe to the BiggerPockets Channel for the best real estate investing education online! Why the US can devastate everyone and still emerge stronger
President Trump is trying to shut down the U.S. Department of Education—or at least gut it as much as possible—cut off funding and shift some required programs to other departments. There are already multiple lawsuits filed to block the move, which critics say would have a devastating and disproportionate impact on lower-income families and the students who need the most support in school. For more on this, KCBS Radio anchors Patti Reising and Bret Burkhart spoke with Natalie Wheatfall-lum, Director of TK-12 Policy at EdTrust West, an Oakland-based organization that advocates for racial equity in education in California.

President Joe Biden convened senior officials today for a briefing on the federal response to the catastrophic wildfires ravaging Los Angeles County. Three active fires—the Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst fires—have already claimed at least 24 lives, scorched over 40,000 acres, and destroyed more than 12,000 structures. The largest blaze, the Palisades fire, is only 14% contained and is now threatening neighborhoods including Brentwood, Encino, and Westwood. Over 105,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate, with an additional 87,000 on standby. The Eaton Fire, which erupted in Altadena earlier this week, has devastated 10,600 acres and destroyed nearly 1,000 structures. Its impact has been particularly severe on Altadena's historic Black community, a sanctuary for generations of African Americans who overcame systemic barriers to create a thriving cultural hub.
