Take me me down to the Paradise Island!
My guest today worked for Club Med from 1987 to 1990. She began her journey as a Hostess at Club Med Cancun and went on to work in stunning locations like Moorea, Guadeloupe, Paradise Island, Sandpiper, and aboard the Club Med 1 in 1990. A graduate of San Jose State University with a degree in Marketing and Communications, Tiffani first discovered Club Med during a summer break from college. And, surprise of surprises, she is connected to the Star Trek universe and we will talk about that as well! Joining us from sunny Palm Springs, California, please give a warm welcome to Tiffani LoBue! Tiffani had an unforgettable experience at Club Med, working alongside some truly remarkable people. Among the CDVs she collaborated with were Guy Thomas, La Guitoune, Jeff Planteblat, Bernard Vigier, Jean-Luc Olivero, and Janyck Daudet. In 1989, while stationed at Club Med Guadeloupe, she was selected by the New York office to spend two months promoting the Club Med 1 to travel agents in New York, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Recently, Tiffani reunited with 11 fellow EXGOs for a trip back to Moorea, revisiting the island that held such cherished memories for her since 1988. In this interview, we also explore her involvement in the TV series Star Trek: Voyager. Enjoy this fascinating conversation with Tiffani! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Happy New Year Seasoners to every one of you! This is the new year's first episode, and I couldn't be more excited about my guest today. She was one of my first interviewees, and we focused exclusively on her debut season. Now, she's back to share more of her incredible journey with Club Med! Starting her career in 1985, she climbed the ranks from Hostess to Chief of Village, an extraordinary accomplishment in her nearly two-decade career. From California, you know her, you love her—the one and only Angie Boucher! In this episode, we'll dive into some standout moments from Angie's Club Med adventures. We'll revisit her seasons in St. Lucia (1986), Martinique (1987), and Paradise Island (2003). Angie also opens up about her unique challenges as a rising Chief of Village, taking on monumental projects and overcoming significant obstacles. We'll also discuss her inspiring contributions beyond her Club Med career, including the Forever G.O. Pour Toujours foundation she co-founded with Lisa Fong and her role on the Board of the Club Chefs de Village charitable organization. Plus, we touch on the highly anticipated 75th-anniversary celebration of Club Med, set to take place in April 2025 at Club Med Opio in France. This episode is packed with laughter, nostalgia, and insight into Angie's remarkable story. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it!**My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. My guest today is Jeff Schonhoff, who worked as a Ski Instructor for Club Med from 1996 to 1998. His first season was at Club Med Copper Mountain, where he worked under CDV Aureo Stern. Following that, he transitioned to Paradise Island as a Golf G.O. Jeff's journey with Club Med began in 1993 when he visited Club Med Huatulco with his family. A friend later encouraged him to try out for a ski instructor role at Copper Mountain—and the rest is history! Before his Club Med adventure, Jeff earned a degree in Finance and Marketing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Now based in Chicago, Jeff joins us to share fond memories from his Club Med days, highlighting how those experiences shaped his current career as a GNC franchise owner. He now owns three GNC stores in Aurora, Plainfield, and Naperville, and he'll walk us through how this venture came about. If you're a 90s EXGO, you won't want to miss this episode! Jeff gives a shout-out to many familiar names from that era. I had the supreme pleasure of working with my guest today during an amazing season at Club Med Playa Blanca during the 1996/1997 winter season. His first season was at Club Med Paradise Island in 1995 as a Sailing G.O., and you could say his parents helped him get the job. In later seasons, he did Lighting and DJ and ended his career in Club Med in 1998 where it all started. In his life after Club Med, he played rugby for the Lake Brome Ducks where he was a two-time MVP. From Montreal, please help me welcome, Jeff Greene! Jeff was taught to sail with the sink-or-sail method by his father, which came in handy when his parents met the CDV at Paradise Island and helped Jeff land the job as a Sailing G.O. Jeff and I reminisce about our amazing time at Playa Blanca and all our shared memories. Jeff worked at Club Med Huatulco and a brief interim at Columbus Isle in 1996. He has stories from each of his seasons, so if you are a mid-90s G.O., you will love this episode with Jeff, please enjoy! Paradise Island, versão nepotismo está novamente no menu.
In early June 2024, Taylor Casey left her home in Chicago to attend a month-long yoga retreat on Paradise Island, Bahamas. With over 15 years of yoga practice, she was eager to earn her teaching certification and bring back her newfound skills to share with her community. However, on the evening of June 19th, after leaving a class, Taylor vanished. This is not a cold case. Taylor has been missing for just three months, and her family is still actively searching for her. We need to keep her story alive—continue sharing her name in the media, post missing person flyers around the Bahamas, and consider donating to support the search efforts. My guest today is a legend of Club Med and he worked for them from 1992 to 2006. I had the SUPREME pleasure of working with him during my first season during the summer of 1994 in Turks and Caicos (and two other villages- Columbus Isle & Cancun). He started playing hockey at 3 years old and learned to barefoot in a Speedo (a Speedo?). His first season was at the opening of Club Med Columbus Isle in 1992 as a Bar. G.O. despite never having taken a bartending course and we are going to ask him all about that and so much more. Still don't know who I'm talking about? It is the one, the only, the man, the myth, the living legend, from Montreal, Quebec, Freddy Bermingham, AKA, "El Fuego"! Freddy's connection to Club Med started with his cousin who was a Hostess G.O. at the opening of Club Med Cancun! Freddy worked in the Club Med resorts such as Martinique, Cancun, Playa Blanca, Phuket, Kemer, and Paradise Island, to name just a few. Freddy has so many stories that I do not want to spoil any of them by listing them here! Katrin Souza's journey is a remarkable example of turning adversity into creativity. Despite growing up in an orphanage and lacking formal musical education, Katrin Souza overcame significant obstacles to pursue her dreams. After discovering the joys of electronic music, she dedicated her nights to studying music production while balancing a full-time job and raising two young children as a single parent. Her first demos received support from Paul Oakenfold and Roger Shah. This was an unexpected surprise for her, given that she had to fend for herself for most of her life: “I had never really received support or recognition in my life. Somehow, being an outcast felt more comforting.” Today Souza is a recognized member of the global music community, managing a full-time music career while raising her two creative children: “My son writes music and my daughter is an artist. I am very proud of them!” Her music releases, spanning over 15 years on labels such as Monstercat Silk, Dissident, and LW Recordings, feature melodic arrangements that linger long after the song ends. Her recent production, ‘Paradise Island,' alongside John Fisherman on the HOROSHO imprint, exemplifies this with its breezy, summery sound and optimistic overtones. In her two-hour mix, Souza delivers an exceptional journey that highlights the joy of escaping through music. Featuring tracks from Gai Barone, DJ Koze, Guy J, Dave DK, and more, this fluid progressive mix explores a range of meditative flavors which build towards an explosive end. @katrinsouza
My guest today worked for Club Med from 1993 to 1997. His first season was in Club Med Copper Mountain as a Ski Instructor. He is yet another EXGO referred to me by recruiter extraordinaire, Shehime Arshad. Fun Fact: He attended the same university (for 1 year) that I work at, Concordia University, in 1992. During the summers at Club Med, he was also a Tennis and Golf G.O. He saw an ad for Club Med in a ski magazine and knew someone who had worked at Club Med who told him about it. Seasoners, please help me welcome, from Toronto, Ontario, Mark Kelton! Mark also worked in the Club Med resorts of Eleuthera (1995 & 1996), Paradise Island (1996/1997) and Turks and Caicos (1997). Mark goes into detail about each of his seasons and shares some very humorous stories that range from getting a jack-o'-lantern sunburn during his first beach season in Club Med, hockey tournaments with very competitive Russian NHL players, and being stunned by the shows that Mike Coltman put on in Eleuthera in 1996. Mark talks about the band that was put together during his first season called Los Mogles. Mark was asked to join the band because a G.O. was convinced that since Mark played the tuba, he could easily play the bass! Mark also shares a story about how Dan and Chantal (RIP) became ski instructors at Copper Mountain. The interview ends with Mark sharing a story about the Alpineglow Stube, a restaurant in Summit County, Colorado that sits atop Keystone's North Peak, that a Brazilian G.M. took Mark and fourteen others to (robes and slippers?!). It's a must-hear story at the end of a very entertaining interview. Please enjoy! Pritkzer personally reaping superprofits off Japanese internment while working for the Office of Alien Property, and San Francisco pedophile real estate tycoon Donald Werby's close relationships with Anton Lavey, Abe Pritzker/Hyatt, and Al Capone. My guest today worked for Club Med from 1997 to 1998 as a G.O. Nurse. She worked in both Club Med Sandpiper (her first season) and Paradise Island. Fun Fact: She went to Club Med Playa Blanca on vacation in 1997 during the season I was there, and we are not sure if we remember each other! She is from New York but now lives in Sarasota, Florida. Please help me welcome Sheera Ashley! Before Club Med, Sheera was working full-time and attending nursing school at the University of Staten Island. After her trip to Playa Blanca, she called 1-800 Club Med and flew down to Sandpiper for her interview. We cover both Sheera's seasons in detail, and we get a look at village life from a nurse's perspective. Sheera shares some rather humorous nursing stories and we play the rapid-fire Club Med question game. This episode is a special treat, recorded at the stunning Pop Shell Studios on Superior in preparation for the Post Saga Wine Night on April 27th. To hype up the release of their first EP in years, "Paradise Island", we sat down with our incredibly talented friend (and pseudo LG sound engineer), Danna O'Connor of Post Saga. Danna shares her vision for the event and the importance of bridging the gap between artists and industry pros. You'll get an exclusive listen to some of these songs before the EP drops on the 27th!Of course, we couldn't resist our usual tangents, covering the hot button items like Shakira and Pirates of the Caribbean, but in the end it's always so much fun talking about the passion behind music, and Danna's perspective of it is truly inspiring.Watch the video performance from the wine night on our YouTube and follow Post Saga to hear 'Paradise Island' or catch them at a show! Forty-one year-old Taylor Casey has been missing since the evening of June 19 into the morning of June 20. She was attending a yoga retreat at an ashram on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. It sounds like an ideal, relaxing time, but as we know, traveling as a single person can pose additional dangers. Taylor, who is transgender, was staying in a tent on the ashram's property. Her cellphone was later found in the ocean. Take a listen as I share inside information from someone who stayed at the ashram years ago. It paints a whole new light on Taylor's disappearance and what could possibly have happened.#taylorcasey #bahamas #paradiseisland #missingwoman #yogaretreat #transgender#truecrime #idaho #moscowidaho #kayleegoncalves #madisonmogen #ethanchapin #xanakernodle #moscowstudentmurders #idahostudentmurders #moscowhomicides #truecrimeunsolved #truecrimeunsolvedSupport the Show.
My guest today worked for Club Med from 1997 to 2003. His name has come up quite a few times on this podcast, so I am very happy to sit down with him today. His first season was in Club Med Cancun as a Set Designer. He has so many fun facts about himself that I do not know where to start but they will be uncovered during this interview. He is originally from Southampton in England, grew up in Brazil, went to school in Singapore, and now calls Anaheim home. Please help me welcome, Kevin “Painter” Hill! Kevin worked at the Club Med resorts of Sonora Bay, Copper Mountain, Paradise Island, Columbus Isle, Turks and Caicos, and Paradise Island. This interview contains great stories from Kevin, so I hope you enjoy this episode. Stories such as Kevin drawing the disco mural at Sonora Bay in 1998, his “sunglasses” story from Paradise Island, and some ghost stories from that same village. Kevin is now a sketch artist for Disneyland and also taught Photoshop, 3D Graphics, Animation, and Motion graphics. Kevin drew some interesting parallels between his career in Club Med with his job working for Disney that you will want to hear! I had the pleasure of working with my guest today in beautiful Club Med Columbus Isle in 1996. He worked for Club Med from 1990 to 2000 and his first season was at Club Med Punta Cana as a Mini Club G.O. Here is something interesting: For almost six years, he worked exclusively in Club Med Punta Cana doing various jobs such as DJ, Landsports and Sailing and we will ask him how that happened! From Santo Domingo but now living in Barrie, Ontario, that's right we now claim him as Canadian, please help me welcome, my Chippendale brother from another mother, Rafael Baez! In addition to Punta Cana, Rafael worked in the Club Med villages of Turks and Caicos, Columbus Isle, Huatulco, and Paradise Island. He has many stories from his ten years in Club Med (including many celebrity encounters) and we shared many laughs during this interview. Rafael recounts what kind of work he was doing before Club Med and how he secured his interview with Club Med with the help of a co-worker. When the conversation switches to Columbus Isle, we share our respective stories about meeting Patrick Dupond (RIP), star dancer and former director of the Paris Opera Ballet. If you were an early 90s G.O., you will love this interview. Please enjoy this episode with Rafael! My guest today only worked one season in Club Med, but it was quite a memorable one. She was working as a Budweiser girl at a golf tournament in Vancouver when a Club Med recruiter approached her and said that she would be a good fit for Club Med. Her first and only season was in Club Med Paradise Island in 2001 as a Bar G.O. with Kevin Batt as the Chief of Village. When 9/11 happened, American Airlines paid for the flights for 500 police officers and 500 firefighters for a week's vacation at Club Med Paradise Island when my guest was working there. From Vancouver Island but living in Las Vegas for the last twelve years, please help me welcome, Michelle Gervais! Michelle worked ten months in the Bahamas with G.O.s like Gecko, Paula Fishman, Joker, and “Pizza Russ” and has the stories to prove it! Michelle takes us back to that fateful day she was recruited to her first week at Paradise Island and has a great “NSYNC” story that sadly, I had to edit most of! Michelle lets us know who she enjoyed working with, the things she misses the most about Club Med, and why they called her the “Blender Queen”. Michelle even found time to film a Molson Export beer commercial with a few other G.O.s at Paradise Island. We also talked about the “Dos Hombres” Bar Boss competition she entered last year. Please enjoy! Today's esteemed guest has a rich history with Club Med, having been part of the organization from 1993 to 1996. His journey unfolded across various Club Med resorts such as Sandpiper, Eleuthera, Paradise Island, Columbus Isle, and Sonora Bay. Commencing his Club Med adventure as a Boutique G.O. in 1993 at Club Med Sandpiper, we eventually crossed paths at the EXGO Reunion 3 in Club Med Cancun in 2010. Inspired by a co-worker who worked for Club Med in the 70s, he embarked on this unique career path. Originally hailing from Michigan and presently calling Palm Springs home, let's extend a warm welcome to the delightful Chris Dingman! For early 90s G.O.s, this episode promises a nostalgic journey as Chris shares captivating stories and a treasure trove of memories from that era. Without giving too much away, our conversation touches on a myriad of intriguing topics: Madonna, Dream Sheet, Mike Coltman Dress Codes, Atlantis in Playa Blanca, Corky's rendition of Crazy by Patsy Cline, visits to the Dentist in San Carlos, the Haunted Village, Olivia, Sober Week/Poached Pears, and much more. Prepare for a laughter-filled exploration of the past as Chris reminisces about the good old days, dropping names and anecdotes that will surely resonate with those who lived through that era. We even attempt to unravel the mystery of why we don't recall meeting during Chris's two-week stint at Columbus Isle in 1996! As Chris ascended to the role of Chief of Boutique, he provided unique insights into the behind-the-scenes workings, offering a glimpse into the meticulous training required to run the Club Med boutique as a small business. To all early 90s G.O.s, rejoice, for Chris is here to guide us down memory lane. Join us for an enjoyable time with Chris as we relive the charm and camaraderie of the Club Med days! My guest today worked for CM from 1994 to 2006. Her first season was in Club Med Sandpiper as an Excursion G.O. She held other positions such as Reception, Ski Instructor, IGO Trainer, and Recruitment and Affectations. My trilingual guest grew up in Florence, Italy, and has a bachelor's degree in Italian Renaissance Art History from Harvard University. She now lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts and she is here to regale us with her many CM stories. Who is this Renaissance woman? Well, it is the one and only, Shehime Arshad! Shehime worked in the Club Med villages of Sandpiper, Copper Mountain (5x), Paradise Island, and Crested Butte (4x). I hope you like funny stories because Shehime has them! Some of the stories are duct-taping Eric Goldberg to the entrance of restaurant (with a ferret no less!) in Copper, being stranded her first season on the road with eleven French lawyers, epic prank wars with the Four Horsemen of Paradise Island in 2002, to quite possibly being the only woman ever to turn down five-time Olympic medalist Alberto “Tomba la Bomba” Tomba when she was at Copper Mountain in 1996. Trust me, you need to listen to this interview! Shehime worked with CDVs Howard McCarley, Jean-Pierre Grand, Aureo Stern, Angie Boucher, and Ryan Leach, to name a few. Shehime also talks a little about her move to the offices in Miami when she was in Recruitment and Affectations in 2005. If you were an early 90s G.O., you will love this episode with Shehime! Timm & Frank report from The Bahamas on The NCAA Invitational
I had the pleasure of working with my guest today during an amazing time in Club Med Playa Blanca during the 1996/1997 season. I then followed him and a few others after that season to Club Med Otranto during the summer of 1997, where he was my Chief of Sports. His first season was in Club Med Cefalu in 1992 as a Tennis G.O. Altogether he worked for Club Med from 1992 to 2001 in such places as Paradise Island, La Plagne, Metaponto, Haiti, Hammamet, and Ibiza, just to name a few. Please help me welcome, from Florence, Italy, Filippo Felloni, AKA, "Pippo"! A family member was working as a nurse in Club Med and thought Filippo would be a perfect fit, and the rest is history. Filippo worked in about 14 different villages in countries such as Italy, the Bahamas, France, Haiti, Mexico, Switzerland, Tunisia, Spain, and Indonesia. Along the way, he worked for Chiefs of Village Danny Stabielli, Lionel Benzoni, Dario Tognelli, Rico Paoletti, LouLou, Eric Peyronnet, Jimmy Chicheportiche, and Thierry Buche. After he left Club Med, Filippo stayed in the hospitality and tourism industry and is currently the General Manager of the 4-star hotel, Lungarno Vespucci 50 in Florence, Italy. Because Filippo and I worked two seasons together back-to-back in Playa Blanca and then Otranto in 1997, we talk about our fond, shared memories of the two villages. Filippo worked in some big villages such as Metaponto and Kamarina and I asked him while he was in Metaponto in 1995/1996, if they were doing “Baby Solo” there at the time. They were, and no spoilers, but you will have to listen to this interview to find out what a “Baby Solo” was (yikes)!! This week, we continue Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance with Prankster's Paradise. We go into the world of Pinocchio where Sora and Riku has 2 different areas. Riku is back inside Monstro while Sora is on Paradise Island. Jason also rants about the recent live action version of the Disney movie and why he got upset about the Paradise Island scene which was killed by 1 obvious ADR line added. We also go back to Traverse Town as we hit the midpoint of the game.
My guest today worked for Club Med from 1994 to 1995 in St. Lucia, Turks & Caicos, Paradise Island, and Playa Blanca. He met his future wife in Playa Blanca, and they have been married since 1996 and have 3 wonderful children. His first season was in Club Med St. Lucia as a Golf G.O. Please help me welcome, from beautiful Bozeman, Montana and now living in Carlsbad, California, Jason Stewart! Get this: Jason went to high school with my first-ever roommate in Club Med, and this G.O. is the one who got Jason the job at Club Med! The golf G.O. in St. Lucia had to leave, so this G.O. called Jason up and asked him if he wanted the position. Jason accepted, and the rest is history. Since I love hearing stories about G.O.s meeting, falling in love, and getting married, I asked Jason to go into detail on this story and he delivers! Jason shares an amazing celebrity encounter story from Paradise Island in 1994 with someone from the cast of ABC's “Growing Pains” and we talk about how Jason was briefly in Turks & Caicos during my first season in 1994, but we do not remember each other! At Turks, we both had the distinction of filling in for a certain God-like Landsports G.O. as “Rocky” in the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and talk about that experience. And because Jason was a golf G.O., we geek out a little over the best golf movie ever made (in my opinion), the 1980s “Caddyshack”. Jason shares a very special story about choreographer Jonathan Rodriguez (RIP), that you will want to hear, concerning Jason's wedding. I hope you enjoy this episode and walk down memory lane with us! My guest today worked for Club Med from 1990 to 1993. His first season was in Club Med Paradise Island as a DJ. He was working for Club Med for, get this, credit! Yes, he was part of the Arizona State University internship program, where he graduated with a degree in International Tourism and Resort Management. Please help me welcome, from Boise, Idaho, Kris Robinson! While he was at ASU, Kris would see future 3x Masters champion, Phil Mickelson, on the golf course! Kris was President of the ASU International Tourism Student Association, and he initially did not want to go to the Club Med recruitment meeting when they came to ASU. It was only at the urging of his favorite professor that he agreed to attend. Kris was swayed by the Club Med presentation, in which 450 students applied and only 26 were chosen (Kris being one of them), and the rest is history. Kris worked in villages such as Eleuthera, Copper Mountain, Cancun, and Punta Cana. He did everything from DJ, Sailing, Ski Instructor, Bartender, Snorkeling/Picnic, and Landsports. He has very vivid memories of his first season in Paradise Island with CDV Fred Leroux and it was Kevin Batt's first season as Chief of Sports. He went to his first season as a DJ, but Kevin wanted him on the sports team, so he did Sailing and also Snorkeling/Picnic that season. Kris lived in Greyleath, so of course I ask him about Paradise Island ghost stories, and he delivers! A natural storyteller, Kris has stories from all his seasons, so if you were an early 90s G.O., this episode is for you. Please enjoy! My guest today worked for Club Med from 1997 to 2001 as a Costume designer. She was sent to Club Med Sandpiper in 1997 for a stage, but her first season was in 1997/1998 in Club Med Playa Blanca. She is from my hometown of Montreal, so please help me give a warm welcome to, Sophie Boyer! Sophie worked in such villages as Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, Paradise Island, and Columbus Isle. Sophie went to school for Theater Production (props, lights, sound, set, and costume design), but it was costume design that she really gravitated towards. Her father saw an ad that Club Med was hiring, she applied and was hired!! Playa Blanca in 1997/1998 with Houria Osmani as the CDV, was her most magical season and Sophie has many stories from this cherished time in her life. My favorite story of hers is the award that she won at the end-of-the-season Awards Show! Sophie was at Turks in Caicos in 1998 with the CDV LouLou, Gus as Chief of Animation, and Hendel as Chief of Sports and yes, we talk about that season too. Sophie met her share of celebrities during her time on Columbus Isle from 2000-2001. She met Antonio Sabàto Jr., Thierry Lhermitte, Mitsou, Claude Charlebois, Corey Hart and Julie Masse! After Club Med, Sophie worked for Cirque du Soleil from 2002-2020. She worked as a costume maker for Cirque du Soleil on such shows as Love, Ka, Zumanity, and Ovo, just to name a few and we will talk about that as well. Please enjoy this episode with Sophie! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Hey everyone and welcome to a brand-new segment of My First Season. I do not have a name for the segment yet, but I have been workshopping the term, My First Season- “In Couple”. In this new feature of MFS, I will be interviewing a “couple” of G.O.s (see what I did there?) who have worked together during the same season. If there are three of you, we'll simply call it In Thruple! So, any EXGOs who are very shy or not comfortable about coming on just by themselves, now you can come on with a friend or two that you worked with in the same village of Club Med and had a lot of laughs with. My guests today worked together in Club Med Paradise Island in 2001/2002. One was a Tennis G.O. and the other was Landsports and they are two of the founding members of the “Four Horseman” of Paradise Island. What the heck is a Horseman? Well, we will get into that and what these two guys are up to nowadays. So, without further ado, please help me welcome back to the podcast, James “Joker” Cradle and Renato Paiva!! Joker (Landsports) and Renato (Tennis) both remember meeting each other on Paradise Island and they share some stories about their time there. They never lost contact once their Club Med careers ended, and they fill me in on what they are up to these days. What Joker and Renato are up to is “Sports Fest Ixtapa 2024” which will be held on April 24-28, 2024, in Club Med Ixtapa! This unique event will allow you to compete in tennis, soccer, or pickleball against players with similar skill levels, making the games both challenging and enjoyable. This sports festival combines the thrill of competitive sports with the luxury and leisure of an all-inclusive resort Mexican resort. And yes, there is an EXGO discount. Please email Renato at: renato@sportsfestixtapa2024.com to enquire. Please visit their website below for more details on this one-of-a-kind event: Sports Fest (sportsfestixtapa2024.com)
My guest today worked for Club Med from July 1993 to 2001 as Mini Club, Chief of Mini Club and Circus. His first season was in Club Med Ixtapa in 1993 as a Mini Club G.O. From Ontario, Canada, please help me welcome, Jamie Neilson!! Before Club Med, Jamie visited Club Med five times starting in 1986. He actually told his guidance counselor in high school that he wanted to be a G.O.! As a G.M., he went to Bermuda, Paradise Island, and St. Lucia. Jamie worked in villages such as Eleuthera, Roi Soleil in Saint Moritz, Guadeloupe, Huatulco, Arziv, and Punta Cana. Jamie took the train to Montreal for his interview in March of 1993 and not many prospective G.O.s can hand a reference letter from Ryan Leach and give it to the person interviewing him, in this case, Kevin Batt! Jamie met Ryan as a G.M. in St. Lucia, but I'll let him tell that story. Jamie worked for Chief of Villages such as Toutoune, Teach, Hammer, and Alain Pistolesi, to name but a few. Jamie learned a lot from the late, great Darwin Hamilton and he remembers him fondly here. Jamie also reveals which CDV taught him everything he knows about leadership, management, and being a G.O. and who he considers to be a big brother. Jamie shares a pretty funny story from Eleuthera involving Darwin, Fergy, and a golf cart that you absolutely have to hear! When he was in Arziv in 1998, he created the Spice Girls' “Who Do You Think You Are” Crazy Sign and was pleasantly surprised to see that his Crazy Sign was being performed in Punta Cana in 2001! Jamie was also one of the first Field Recruiters hired by Club Med in 2000 and he talks about that as well. Please enjoy this episode with Jamie! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. The Superhero Show Show #466 James Gunn vs X-Men: The Animated SeriesThe Taste Buds discuss a Cyclops episode of X-Men: The Animated Series, and go over James Gunn's big announcements, on an all-new episode of The Superhero Show Show!On an all-new, all-different episode of The Superhero Show Show, Mike and Ryan are left alone to discuss two major life events. The first is, of course, the little video that James Gunn made announcing the projects of the first chapter of the all new DCU: Gods and Monsters. If you want to hear what they have to say about the five movies, you'll have to head over to Patreon. But in the episode proper they will give their hopes and predictions for five new television shows: Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Island, and Booster Gold. That's a lot of TV, but most of it will be filmed and then never shown, so it won't be so bad. The Taste Buds are still without any new shows to watch this week, so they turn once again to X-Men: The Animated Series, and it's a Cyclops episode!!! Ladies and gentlemen, Superhero Show Show proudly presents No Mutant is an Island, obviously a stupid title, because Krakoa is a mutant and an island.Still upset with Jean's death, which in the order the episodes aired happened two years ago, Cyclops decides to go back to the orphanage he stayed at when he was a kid. Most of the children today are being adopted by a man named Killgrave, aka the Purple Man. It's up to Scott and the head of the orphanage (who has a little requited crush on Scott) to stop the Purple Man and rescue the children. And next week features the return of television, when a new episode of Harley Quinn mercifully drops!
