We're continuing our coverage featuring the best shows from 2024 this week with the selection from the European tour - Barcelona Night 1. There weren't many shows to choose from thanks to a few cancelations on this run in London and Berlin for two shows, but this Barcelona show is the return after Ed caught a serious case of bronchitis that put him on the shelf for 10 days. Joining us on the podcast this week is our friend Alison, AKA the Voice Queen! She is a speech pathologist that specializes in voice recovery, and we'll get to learn some pretty remarkable information about what age can do to someone's vocal chords and how someone in Ed's situation can make a full recovery to perform again. This is a can't miss interview! As for any concerns of Ed coming into this show not at 100% due to illness, those concerns can be halted. Ed will demonstrate right away how powerful he sounds by utilizing his lungs at full capacity playing the harmonica on the Footsteps opener, and sounding absolutely pristine on Nothingman to follow that. There are no signs of damage at this show, and all the layoff did was made the entire band hungry to take the stage because this night is all about the energy from both band and crowd alike. Songs like Given To Fly, Even Flow and Do The Evolution have a little bit of the South American flair that fits the passionate Spain crowd, but the Dark Matter songs were also big highlights here. From Scared Of Fear to Upper Hand and Setting Sun, they were at the top of their game when it came to new material. We'll spend a lot of time discussing the speech referencing Ed's "near death experience" that was shared during Wasted Reprise, and we'll talk about how Ed's vulnerability in moments like these can help us as fans better communicate with one another. Also, lots of gear talk! Boosters, hammers, a killswitch and a Fender on steroids will dominate the technical segments of the program... ...and lest I forget... Hardcore Nudity! The 2024 election is upon us and there's no better way to celebrate than to cast your vote early or on this upcoming Tuesday. The second best way to celebrate is by going back and reliving Pearl Jam's 2004 run on the Vote For Change Tour! Through a run of six swing states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri and Florida as well as North Carolina, which this episode will focus on, the objective for this tour was to get people to register to vote while speaking out against President George W. Bush and the Iraq War. As with their entire history, the democratic process has been incredibly important to Pearl Jam, and this is one of the most important runs that exemplifies that. Because they were touring with Death Cab For Cutie and Tim Robbins project, GOB Roberts, setlists in 2004 were not quite the marathon shows that we got a glimpse of the prior year. This set is 21 songs long, but only features a 12 song main set. We'll talk about how this was not the best night for Ed's health as he was battling illness, which would leave a bit left to be desired on powerful vocal songs like Brain Of J and Grievance. There is also quite a memorable moment in Do The Evolution where an entire portion of the song was completely disregarded. An important one at that! We'll also talk about some great moments including Long Road opening up the encore and a Blitzkrieg Bop Daughter tag turned into "Hey Ho, Let's Vote!" This episode was selected over 2004 shows due to the unfortunate devastation of Hurricane Helene through Asheville. Alongside this episode, we ran a fundraiser to donate to some local organizations helping to rehabilitate the community - Beloved Asheville, Asheville Survival and Pansy Collective. Stay tuned in this episode for our announcement of how much we were able to raise! You may not recognize this show by name, but Columbia, Maryland 1998 is a pivotal show in Pearl Jam history due to one moment that was immortalized on a record title Live On Two Legs (yes, it does feel weird to say that sometimes). This is the first instance that a little improv was introduced prior to the performance of MFC that to this day is known to the Pearl Jam Faithfull as Untitled. This episode spends a significant portion of time focusing on the impact that this song has made over time, it's importance to fans when hearing it on the live album, the meaning of the lyrics at the time of performance and how it ties in to another improv from an earlier era. While Untitled dominates conversation here, there are plenty of topics that will focus on other stellar performances from this set. Hail, Hail opens this show for the fourth and final time to date and we'll discuss the dynamic of it kicking off a night. Immortality, State Of Love And Trust, Mankind, Alive, Black and Last Kiss will also big highlights from this show. And what does Charlie Sheen and Chevy Chase have to do with this episode that we'll need an extended conversation on? Joining us for this episode is our Patron, Sheehan Perera (IG: @concertpants) who will share his great stories about this being his first show and celebrating it with his friends he grew up with in Malaysia. Also, the Gear Guru chimes in during this version of Do The Evolution to break down how Stone is creating a "washing" sound during the solo. ¡Ole Ole Ole Ole! This week we're digging into one of the best places to see a Pearl Jam concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina! We all know those South American shows are special whether it be in Brazil, Chile or Peru, but there is something about the Argentinian crowd that makes your hair stand on end. The passion for the band mixed with their natural knack for singing along with the melodies of songs, even singing songs of their own when the band takes a minute to breathe, makes this one of the must see Pearl Jam crowds in the world. Javier was lucky enough to be in attendance for this one in 2011, so we'll get the scope of what it was like to be a part of that audience. There's a cliche used on the show sometimes where we say "you're only as good as your last bootleg" which means that when fans get their hands on boots from the most recent tour year and hear how it went down, the next time the band comes around to their town, they want to be a part of that. This show in 2011 is the show that everyone went home and listened to, waited for two years in 2013 and absolutely turned the dial on to make that (in my personal opinion) the best Pearl Jam crowd of all time. This crowd sings along with just about everything from Release to Even Flow to Jeremy, Black, Better Man, and hell, even Last Kiss. But as you'll see with a song like Do The Evolution which is widely known for it's South American renditions, it wasn't quite the moment that we know of it to be now. We'll get into the possible reasons why, and how that continued to grow throughout their future runs down there. We'll have fun raving about this crowd, but we'll also discuss whether or not the band should have been more involved with their celebrations, again as they would do in future years. Also! An old segment is back by popular demand, so don't miss it! Well. Originally this episode was slated to get you guys excited for the shows taking place in Berlin this week, but while the band was forced to cancel their plans, we've decided to stick with ours. Berlin is one of Pearl Jam's best cities to play in that perhaps nobody ever talks about. This crowd comes into every show ready to bring their a-game, and at this show in 2014, nothing was spared. From waving their arms in the air to clapping in rhythm, bouncing up and down and singing every lyric and guitar melody, the fans in Germany absolutely know how to give this band the best they got. This Lightning Bolt era show went for nearly 3 hours and featured 34 songs from every variety of rarities to the radio hits. This show will have plenty of great crowd moments, including on songs like Do The Evolution and Sirens where the band is greeted with post-performance melodies. Checklist songs galore here that include God's Dice, Sleight Of Hand, You Are, Who You Are, All Those Yesterdays, Bee Girl and one of the rarest songs in the Pearl Jam catalog, Hold On played for only the fourth of a total of five times. But that's not all! Find out why this crowd needed to hear the dulcet tones of the voice of their favorite guitar player, and the hilarious ensuing result. We'll of course start the show reacting once again to the news of cancelations, and once again bring more context to the situation. In 2005, Pearl Jam dedicated the month of September to tour across an area they've never touched from coast to coast - the great plains and prairies of Canada. 17 shows over 24 days led to some absolute classics from this band that may get forgotten over time, but that's part of why we're here is to keep the discussion alive! This show in Winnipeg that we're covering in this episode is a great example of a Canadian small town that never hosted Pearl Jam before this tour attempt, and the crowd ended up delivering big time. At the newly built arena that would later become the home of the reformed Winnipeg Jets, Pearl Jam happened to draw the largest capacity audience for the one year since it had been built. From the bootleg, you can tell that there isn't a single seat empty in the building. That led the band to pull out some surprises that you almost never get to see at normal shows, such as Better Man opening the night, Blood closing encore 1 after Alive, and Indifference opening the second encore. With plenty of Neil Young references and a wonderful moment where a fan got her request for Smile granted, nearly every song has their moment in the sun at this show. Lest we forget, a little flip phone call during Daughter that leads to a fun moment. Not only will we dig into the strength of the crowd here, but we'll have the Gear Guru step in and do a little breakdown on Stone during Not For You and Do The Evolution, and he'll also breakdown why Mike's modem was running at the end of Blood. With the 2023 tour in our rearviewmirror, we're pushing forward back as this episode features a great show from Prague at the end of the Lightning Bolt tour run. Seeing as we are now officially finished with the Gigaton run, we thought it would be a good idea to take both of these tour years and see how they compared before embarking on a new era. It's interesting to look at side by side because at the show in Prague, the crowd was treated to many crowd favorite rarities such as Tremor Christ, Brain Of J., Love Boat Captain and Help Help. That's not far off from what we were just treated to! Of course the sets were a little longer in 2018, but we're going to get into why certain things have needed to be adjusted as the band gets older. While people may remember 2018 for the Home/Away shows, the massive show in Rome or even the London make-up show, this Prague show should be right up there when people discuss the best of this year. The crowd was lively on big time favorites such as Corduroy and Do The Evolution, which means they were treated to some well deserved surprises later in the set. Two big highlights of this show include a version of Love Boat Captain that features an incredible jam/improv intro, and a tandem of The Beatles Help! transitioning into Riot Act deep cut Help Help. We'll also have a little Prague history for you that we'll discuss! Thanks go out to Ross Strothers for requesting this episode, you'll get to hear his story told. And the Gear Guru segments this week feature a discussion on Stone's tone during Tremor Christ and other songs, and Mike using a very unique pedal that created a sound in songs like Even Flow and Black that we didn't get to see presented in 2023. It's time for our third trip to the Steel City this year! After covering 2000 and 2003 in the spring, we're going to focus on the tour year that preceded those shows in 1998. Want to hear something kind of shocking? This was their first show in Pennsylvania since Lollapalooza 1992! With the 1994 and 1996 tours that traveled through the northeast, it's kind of insane that they never hit Pittsburgh or Philadelphia during that time frame. But they make it up to all of yinz by putting together an energetic show where Ed's intensity is all full force. And we get the live debut of No Way! With the 2023 tour now a week away, we'll spend some time discussing some of our thoughts about what could go down, suggesting that perhaps the Metallica method that was popularized this year may be an influence. But tying that into Pittsburgh, what's great about this show is that we have a soundcheck in our possession. We're discussing it at the right time because listening to it and hearing the rain and thunder rumbles makes you a little bit homesick for the live Pearl Jam atmosphere. Especially when Ed performs Throw Your Arms Around Me in the pre-set. The rest of the show features classic versions of songs like Black and Do The Evolution, as well as a Rearviewmirror that has a bridge unlike anything we've seen in a long time. We'll also talk about an Easter Egg from this show that's made the rounds over the years featuring Ed in a different perspective. Gear Guru segments this week will focus on Stone's vibrant solo on Brain Of J, Mike's energy on Alive and a glimpse into why No Way may have never worked out live as well as you'd might think. We've done extensive coverage of the 2003 Riot Act tour celebrating the 20th anniversary this year. Now it's time to celebrate the anniversary of another major tour in Pearl Jam history - 1998! We kick off a 3-episode Yield tour stretch with an outdoor festival show that took place in Barrie, right outside of Toronto. With Cheap Trick as the supporting act on tour at this time, there are multiple instances where the band gives a subtle nod to their rock heroes, including Mike using Rick Nielson's guitar for State Of Love And Trust. Our Patron Alex Sink joins us for this episode to tell his story of what went down that day. For a bootleg that had a tough time capturing the identity of the show and with no visual aides available, Alex is able to take us back to what that scene was like. A rowdy crowd of over 30,000 created dirt clouds and mud as the mosh pits were in full force on this one. And the band was clearly in a good mood after watching Cheap Trick on the side stage. Ed makes multiple mentions of how great this crowd was, and even addressed some of the craziest fans he had ever seen in the parking lot during an extended version of Leatherman. We also have the world debut of the Do The Evolution music video that happens at this show with the band performing while the images are shown on a screen behind them. If you love Matt Cameron, this may be the episode for you! Get ready for five moments that we've dubbed the 'filthy fills' that will be featured throughout this show! Alpine Valley has been a staple of the Pearl Jam touring route going all the way back to Lollapalooza in 1992. In the seven instances in which they've played there, there's no lack of unforgettable shows and unforgettable moments. A few of the shows even have monikers that they go by such as PJ20, when they played there for their 20th anniversary, and the Ice Bowl in 2000 where they played a full show in freezing cold weather. In this episode, we're gonna go back to 25 years ago where they played their first headlining gig in East Troy. To help us tell the story, we've enlisted our Patron Aaron Redmon who requested this show. This was very early in Matt Cameron's tenure with the band, and there are some things that we'll hear out of Matt that show that he was still getting adjusted to being on tour with them. Songs like Do The Evolution and Brain Of J feature a harder edge than we're accustomed to today. This show will feature technical difficulties, botched lyrics and early indications that certain songs were ready to become massive crowd friendly moments. The two big moments to look out for are Black with a highly intense We Belong Together tag and Alive with an improv within the solo. With Alpine Valley being such a historic venue, we asked you to share your favorite moments from seeing shows there, which we'll share during our question of the week segment. And our Gear Guru segments this week will feature Mike's clean guitar sound on Even Flow, well deserved love for Jeff Ament and a tag of Jimi Hendrix's Machine Gun at the end of Yellow Ledbetter. For the second week in a row, we're diving back into 2022 to discuss one of Randy's favorite shows he's ever been to that happened in Camden. Originally slated for Baltimore during what was going to be the 2020 run, the band making a return to the Philadelphia area meant that there were no punches going to be pulled, this was destined to be a monster set. Seeing that the city has had rich and historical significance within the 32 years of this band, there were many callbacks to other Philly shows, including the legendary JC Dobbs show in 1991. Nine of the ten songs from that show were played that night as the earliest eras of Pearl Jam dominated this set. A lot of this episode will focus around Randy's personal stories and why this was an important show to him. There were songs played on this night that were very high up on his wishlist. Ones that he'd seen before, but not in over a decade, and a few that he'd been chasing for just as long. We'll highlight the memories created from hearing songs like Hard To Imagine, Untitled/MFC and Inside Job that were incredibly powerful, experience making moments. We'll also go in depth on an explosive version of Retrograde as well as an excellent Not For You. A big story from this show was that Ed and the band invited All-In contest winners, Richie and Dermot Berg to the stage, after a full day of experiencing the preparation of what goes in to putting together a Pearl Jam show. Back last September, we invited the Berg's onto the podcast to tell their story. We'll relive a clip from that, but give the full episode that's available in our archives a listen because there's no lack of awesome information shared there. We'll read your answers for question of the week where we asked whether you preferred shows in an amphitheater or arena setting, and our Gear Guru segment this week will focus on Do The Evolution playing off of the song's original pace and Quick Escape's overall sound from the Gigaton tour. Continuing on our run of Riot Act shows, this week takes us to the home of the Fighting Illini in Champaign, IL. For this show being on a college campus and therefore not allowing the sale of alcohol, the crowd did an excellent job bringing in the same kind of energy that you'd see from their in-state big city counterpart in Chicago. There are a handful of interesting things from this one. Do The Evolution is opened with for only the 4th time to this point, The Police cover, Driven To Tears, is played for the first time in 404 shows, and the first with a full band, and Ed will break out a ukulele for The Who song Blue Red Grey that Ed admits he stole for Soon Forget. Those two covers are part of this show's major theme which is a total of six covers played on this night. We'll discuss this in full detail and bring to the table how many covers are enough or too much to play in a set. You guys weighed in on that on social media and answered that exact question, so we'll read some of the answers that we got in the episode. Let's begin our Yield tour celebration by going back and covering the 25th anniversary of their two night stint in Maui. A destination show for Pearl Jam in a 5,000 person venue to kick off a strong slate of shows for 1998. Hawaii is a place that would gain importance over time as it became a second home for Eddie, and his friendship connections would later lead to him and Boom Gaspar meeting. This time period would also become known as the beginning of the end for Jack Irons as he would leave the band following the ensuing Australian tour leg.  As we've discussed in the past three episodes, we'll once again have the chance to talk about some of the earliest performances of Yield album tracks. Songs like Given To Fly, Faithfull and MFC provided a punch and make an impact, while a song like Wishlist is still finding its way. This show features 21 songs in a shortened 90 minute set thanks to an early curfew, but the band leans heavily on No Code and the new songs while Vs. and Ten tracks are fairly limited. No spoilers, but you'll enjoy this! It's been two years since we've covered a show in Mexico City, and there is absolutely no excuse for that. Just like every other Latin American country, the fans from Mexico are some of the loudest and most passionate of any Pearl Jam fans around the world. As the band is now potentially looking at eight full years since playing down there, its as good a time as any to to put focus on them. There's no question that this crowd is going to take up the majority of the story for this show. As the band was ending the nine-show run, the fans had been waiting four long years for them to return to the 62,000 person capacity soccer stadium. All of that energy bottled up was exploded from the first note of Pendulum. This crowd was especially prominent on songs such as Small Town, Do The Evolution, Corduroy, Daughter, Rearviewmirror and Black which we'll talk about at length. There's also an obscure cover from the Eagles Of Death Metal played here that had only been played on three nights as a tribute to the band who were in the aftermath of the Paris terrorist attacks. Our question of the week - Have you ever been featured as part of the show? Whether it be a dedication, banter with Ed, a sign you held up or even high fiving Ed or Mike? There's that, and we'll hear from our Gear Guru Javier again this week talking about the cross play between Stone and Mike's guitar's during this version of You Are. We'll get everybody prepped and hyped for tour time and go over some of the great features that will be available to follow along with on liveon4legs.com and Patreon.  This show was a fantastic choice for the Vault collection. It can be considered one of the best shows of the first US leg in 1998 and there are many reasons to back that up. For one, The Forum is a massive, historic venue in Los Angeles where hundreds of legendary music acts have performed as well as many Lakers championships won. Ed and the guys are juiced to be playing there and right off the bat it shows. The bulk of these performances could be considered some of the very best renditions. The Yield songs especially. Brain Of J, In Hiding and Live On 2 Legs compilation addition Do The Evolution are major highlights along with excellent versions of Given To Fly, Present Tense, Rearviewmirror and Corduroy. Continuing our preparation for the upcoming May tour dates, we're looking back at a show from Phoenix during the Binaural era. The show is placed during a very strong stretch for the band as the following night would become an all-time classic - their 10th anniversary in Las Vegas. But Phoenix has been a rather quiet stop for Pearl Jam over the years. A lot of people remember the Open Road improv that they did back in 1995, but there were shows that happened there during every album tour from 1998 til 2003, although they'd wait 10 years before they showed up again during Lightning Bolt. Is Phoenix an undervalued Pearl Jam city? Should the shows from there be discussed more often. We do our best to answer those questions with the hope that this year's show can change the impression of the city. A lot of great performances here including a few that were extremely rare during the Binaural era. Timeless Melody shows up in the middle of the main set, a song by the La's that was covered thanks to Matt Cameron's suggestion. Busy recording their fifth studio album, Yield, they kept a low  profile and took a break from having to deal with their continued Ticketmaster boycott. It wasn't until November that Pearl Jam would play a 4-night stint of shows in the Bay Area as the opening act for The Rolling Stones. In this episode we'll discuss the first night of the four show run and take a glimpse into the transitional time period for them.  This show is interesting mainly because Pearl Jam is not quite the focal point. While a big stage is built for the Stones' elaborate set-up, Pearl Jam was confined to a smaller section of the stage which crammed up their space and didn't allow them to build a connection with the large stadium crowd. If you watch the YouTube video, you would never be able to tell that the band was playing in a football stadium. But the Stones invited them along for these shows in order to entice a younger crowd and sell tickets. This was originally set for a two night stay, but since these shows were in such high demand they continued to tack on dates. Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews and Sheryl Crow only play for two nights a piece on this tour, and Pearl Jam's set lasted 20 minutes longer. That's being in high demand right there! After debuting some of the Yield songs at a fan club show in Santa Cruz two nights prior (billed as The Honking Seals), the first night of this run featured three key album tracks being played for the second time. Given To Fly displayed it's ability to soar in an outdoor venue and benefited from the Jack beat that is routinely identified with the song, Wishlist showed a bit of trepidation as Ed busts out the e-bow for the first time in front of a large crowd, and Do The Evolution was an early indication that the fans were in for something fresh and raw on the new album. But as their stage time was held to only an hour due to being the opener, most of this set has your standard, mid-90's Pearl Jam fare. This episode takes a look into a show on the Yield tour from Hartford, CT that was the follow-up show to one from Madison Square Garden that many consider to be among the best of all time. While much of this episode is Randy stepping up to his soapbox to profess his love for shows in his home state, it's also taking a key critical factor in Pearl Jam touring and asking the important question - is the band OK with having a down show immediately after playing one for the ages? With Hartford being sandwiched in between two big cities, you'd think it would be an opportunity for the band to possibly take the night off. Whether they do or not is a discussion in itself, but you'll have to listen in to hear what Stone thought about this show in particular. We'll react to Stone's quote and try to put the pieces together as to why maybe this isn't a show that many people go back to from the era. It certainly has moments. Breath, after famously being brought back for the first time since 1994 at MSG, is played once again. Alive and Porch at the end present a situation where Ed had to manage the security team, because how dare those Connecticut fans dance in the aisles. And there are great versions of Do The Evolution, Daughter, Spin The Black Circle and Brain Of J all packed in. Was this a lull show? You'll just have to tune in to find out! Along with the usual end of tour shenanigans, we'll talk a lot about No Code, as 7 songs from the album are played on this night. Fantastic versions of Brain of J., Not For You, and Do The Evolution are highlighted, and we'll also talk about some versions of songs from Ten that were maybe not at their height (with one exception, 1..2..3..4…). Was Matt Cameron still getting his feet wet as PJ's drummer after less than 3 months on the job? Who is Mister Pickles? It's been a while since we've done a South American show, so in this episode we're gonna chat about one from the last tour cycle way back in 2018. Of course we know how crazy intense the Brazilian crowds are, and the crowd at this show in Rio de Janeiro would once again control this night. Joining us to talk about it is friend and Patron Dukes Wooters who traveled from Seattle to be there that night. Also, since we're talking about Brazil, we'll share a message from the band Black Circle about their experiences at this show, including an attempt to get their lead singer Lenny to sing with Ed! A lot of the content in this episode will feature Dukes story of his trip and what was happening in Brazil at the time. This show came shortly after councilwoman Marielle Franco was murdered which led to Brazil undergoing a major transfer of power. This was not lost upon the band as they addressed and paid tribute to the situation, clearly aware and looking out for Brazil's best interests. Powerful political and progressive songs such as Can't Deny Me, Leaving Here and a W.M.A. tag off Daughter were played as a reaction. But this show had many of the key fun moments you expect from Brazilian crowds, lots of singing, lots of chanting, Do The Evolution, Given To Fly and Black sounding otherworldly. But the band also broke out some of the deeper tracks such as Garden and Immortality. Having Josh Klinghoffer and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers join the party was another awesome added bonus to make this night special for the locals. One of our promises this year was more Canadian shows for the Canadian listeners and there's no better time to release a show from the north than during NHL Playoff season! We continue to dig into the Deep streaming catalog tour years featuring this Montreal show that kicked off the final leg of the 2000 tour. In this episode, we'll talk a little bit about how important the retail released bootlegs from the 2000 tour were to the fandom expanding and growing and their live act getting some more recognition. The bootlegs from the European tour were released only a week before this leg began. We'll discuss whether or not the bootlegs had anything to do with bringing back some of the older, more rare songs from Ten and Vs. that were played in the years following this tour. We'll also get into a discussion about whether or not the popularity of Last Kiss led for a change up in how the Binaural record was produced and written. As for the show, while dealing with some first night technical difficulties, the band came through with some big performances at this show including a Corduroy with a riveting solo similar to ones you hear on Even Flow. The show really kicks in toward the middle of the set as a nasty Do The Evolution sets the tone for a hard rocking section with MFC, an improv and Habit. Other highlights from this show are Porch, Off He Goes, Of The Girl and Leaving Here. Donate to the show: http://patreon.com/liveon4legs

First up, Scottye brings out various music-making devices for his attraction YouDJ/UDJ (maybe there's a copyright situation or something???) and tasks you the guest into making your own sweet, sweet sounds. Then, Jim waves a book around like a lunatic as guests find themselves in the audience of one rather chatty telepathic gorilla. One can only assume the queue features the song "Do The Evolution" by Pearl Jam.

We're finally here! Around The World has taken us to South America and what better way to start than in the biggest country Brazil! This week we're celebrating a Sao Paolo show from 2015 that had incredibly emotional ties to it being performed only one day after the Paris terrorist attacks. The band knows when they are in a position of power to bring people together in a time where its needed and right from the start, Ed makes sure that 60,000 in this crowd are part of a family. There are no lack of emotional moments in this show and that's always apparent whenever Long Road pops in as your opener. During Love Boat Captain he has the crowd in his full grasp capturing an incredible moment where he goes back n forth at the end repeating the word love. The emotion continues when the approach Come Back and then again in the encore for Imagine, Sirens, I Am Mine and Black. The healing power of all these songs are immeasurable and you can feel the crowd attaching themselves to every moment. Not only did they have to battle the state of the world, they also had to battle the weather conditions of the night. Ed even quips during Lightning Bolt by saying it's a clear night tonight just for the Gods of rock n roll to strike down upon the stage with rain and major windstorms. In a moment of turbulence, Ed calms the crowd with a beautiful rendition of Elderly Woman giving them a spotlight while the rest of the band takes safety precautions. The rain would continue to come down, most notably during Better Man where it looked as if bullets were dropping from the sky. And as always, the crowds are what make these Brazil shows so good. Getting amazing sing-alongs on Do The Evolution, Jeremy and RVM are the reasons why the band keeps going back down there for more. Thanks to Black Circle for joining us earlier this week, we included a byte from their episode that we saved for this one talking about some of their favorite Brazil show moments. And thanks to fan page Pearl Jam To Fly for selecting a great show for us to discuss! We are still taking donations for September for our fundraiser for runfreely.org. We're back around the world this week and we'll continue the series this entire month finishing up two more stops and Europe and FINALLY getting to some highly regarded South American shows. This week though we kill two birds with one stone (Gossard) as we'll also treat this episode as a Patreon request from our friend Luke who attended this show! The best thing that you can say about a Pearl Jam show is that when you hear the city and year, you know immediately what it attaches to. For this one, it's Oceans for Israel. Israel was a fan from Mexico who was set to attend this show, but in June of that year suffered a heart attack and would later pass away due to complications from surgery. His friends and fans alike started a social media campaign to get the band to play Oceans, his white whale, at the show. And as the band always does, they take it a step further with a section that could've been seen as dedicated to Israel featuring Oceans, Light Years and Daughter with an Esta Bien tag. Other great things from this show - we'll get to hear a great crowd participate on their most popular of songs such as Black and Do The Evolution and we FINALLY get to cover Riot Act deep cut Ghost for the first time ever on this show. We're back to Europe this week as our Around The World series continues with a stop in Copenhagen, Denmark from 2012. It was the end of a 13-show summer European tour in a year where the band wouldn't tour much outside of those dates and a few late summer US festivals. It would also mark the end of the Backspacer era leading way to new music a year later from Lightning Bolt. It is pretty much a guarantee on the last night of a tour that the band is gonna be in a good mood and leave everything they have on the stage. The Monday crowd brought their A-game too as they showed their chops on versions of Elderly Woman, Do The Evolution, Love Boat Captain, Even Flow and Better Man. The band looked to sprint through the first set (that ended at approx 67 minutes) to get the crowd to sweat inside a very hot building. So it's come to this... 34 episodes in the books and finally we have one week where we can't make an episode work out. Matt's fiddling his bass and Randy is just twiddling his thumbs thinking what to do in the meantime when suddenly he came up with an idea that is equally great and awful at the same time! A clip show. Yeah yeah, clip shows are not the most exciting things on the planet, but sometimes they are necessary in order to pass the time. But since we haven't been around for a year yet and we're gaining new listeners all of the time, I thought it would be a good idea to kind of take a look back on some of our favorite moments that we've covered in the show. The episode features these highlights: - Black from Berlin 2010 - Porch from Atlanta 1994 - Who You Are from Moline 2014 - Breath from MSG 1998 - Do The Evolution from MSG 2003 So while a clip show might not be exactly what you want, it's exactly what we have. Though if you end up listening to the entire hour and 15 minutes of this (it's only about 2:30 shorter than State College) you'll get treated with a preview of some episodes that are on the docket for the next couple of months. Thanks for getting through the week without us, we'll be back next week with Hartford 2010.

Through 32 episodes we've covered emotional moments, historical moments, legendary moments. Band defining moments such as the push for Breath at MSG, Immortality with original lyrics at The Orpheum and when the stage shook during Do The Evolution. Throughout all three of these iconic moments, one of us on this podcast shrugged them off and downplayed their impact. I was worried that Matt would never get to break out and enjoy the emotions of a performance instead of critiquing the sound... That is until this episode! We continue our coverage of the MSG series with the second night of 2003, one of the earliest show's that Matt attended. For years and years and years Matt talked about how Crazy Mary was one of the band's best openers, only for the band having ever done it twice. I shrugged him off and called him... Crazy... due to the song being a staple in the encore act. Low and behold we finally get to talk about it and while it has emotional impact for Matt, I find a way to make good logical sense of the decision. Overall the band had to follow a tough act from the night before where they were greeted with special guests and rocked so hard that the stage shook. They put together a great mix of the old and the rare tracks that were uncommon in 2003 such as Deep and Glorified G and spliced in some Riot Act songs that still to this day remain rarities – including Get Right that hasn't been played since that tour. We've been promising a new Patreon episode and we're gonna make good on it! Sometime this weekend our Live At Easy Street episode will finally be released. A legendary performance in a legendary venue that turned into a legendary concert DVD. We continue our year long MSG series focusing on the band's 3rd time playing the famous arena and it's one of their most iconic shows of all-time. Randy and Matt have a lot to discuss in this episode, including how this show was one of the first live exposure that Randy had to the band. From the moment the DVD showcased the black and white photos of NYC landmarks and dissolved into the piping organ of Love Boat Captain, there's a certain aura you can feel. It paved the way for a night chock full of amazing moments. Of those moments, none may be more memorable than the appearance of long time Pearl Jam friend Ben Harper. His rendition of Indifference and the tag of With My Own Two Hands on Daughter go down as two of the best collaborations that have ever happened on a Pearl Jam stage. We talk about how Harper captured two major emotional moments from this show and how people still talk about them to this day. Also, lest we forget that this was the night they SHOOK the stage at the Garden during Do The Evolution! Legend be told at the time, they shared this distinction with only the Grateful Dead, Iron Maiden and Bruce Springsteen. Was this the moment that turned Pearl Jam from great band into legendary band? There are certain questions that evolutionary thinkers ask themselves and each other constantly: What does integral consciousness feel like? How is it different from the postmodern worldview? Can we develop integral capacities through intention and practice? How does integral thinking apply to everyday life and of course … sigh … Trump? Having a good conversation on topics like these is itself a form of integral practice, and I felt literally expanded by this one with Jason. I hope you do too!
