On the latest episode of The Race F1 Tech Show, host Edd Straw and former F1 technical director Gary Anderson look back on Imola and ahead to Monaco.First, they discuss how Red Bull turned the tables on McLaren at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, asking whether this was a track-specific change in the pecking order, or whether Red Bull have made a significant step forward.Next, Edd and Gary turn their attention to Monaco, looking at the specific setup that the street track demands and then the debating how the teams will approach race strategy, with two pit stops mandatory for every driver in this year's race. And as usual, the final part of the podcast is dedicated to Gary answering tech questions sent in by listeners. This week the selection includes questions on gears, pitstops, underbody aerodynamics, and track evolution.Got a question for Gary? Well if that was the last Grand Prix at Imola for the forseeable future, it didn't leave us with a sour taste in the mouth and while it wasn't a classic race it was still better than some of the parades we've had round the circuit for the last 5 years since F1 made a return there in the patched together 2020 season. This week we take a look back at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the first of 2 Italian races this season and the start of the European races to boot. Could McLaren and in particular Oscar Piastri keep up their dominant form from the first quarter of the season, now we're not flying away as much, or with the appearance of a few upgrades (as is traditional at this time of year), would we see more than the papaya cars in the mix?The answer was both sort of yes and sort of no as Max Verstappen spoiled the papaya party this week by completely turning around a RedBull that he wasn't overly keen on up to Saturday afternoon to pull out his most Max-like performances of the season so far. After "that move" on turn 2, there was seemingly no stopping him from running away with it. Especially when McLaren decided to let their drivers race rather than try to strategise a win!Obviously we're as tangent heavy as always (for some reason that you'll hear) and we've ended up with Franz Ferdinand as our featured band of the week (when did this become a music pod?) And as a bonus, while he's not here this week, Dan has promised to be on more shows this year!If you want to join in with the chat during the races (along with practice and qualifying) head over to our Discord where there's always a great crowd of people to watch along with. Why have Alpine swapped rookie Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto after just six races? How does this opportunity compare to Franco's nine races with Williams last season? And after the shock resignation of Team Principal Oliver Oakes, what sort of person will Alpine be looking for to replace him? In a special edition of the podcast, Dre Harrison sits down with F1 writer Jake Boxall-Legge and News Editor Haydn Cobb to break down two shock stories from Alpine's F1 Team. Last night, Oliver Oakes has resigned as Alpine team principal with immediate effect, with executive advisor Flavio Briatore taking his duties on an interim basis. Flavio released a statement earlier today dismissing rumours that there was a rift between the pair and instead cited "personal reasons" for Oakes departure. Also announced this morning was that Alpine reserve driver Franco Colapinto will be taking Jack Doohan's seat for at least the next five races, starting with next weekend's Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. Dre, Jake and Haydn discuss whether Doohan was unfairly dropped from the team after a rocky start to life in F1, whether Colapinto will be an improvement in the short-term at Alpine, the managerial merry-go-around from Enstone after hiring their sixth team principal in five years, and ponder what could be coming next for a team that seemingly cannot avoid drama.
