Luke Gearing is the renowned writer and game designer behind some of the best weird fantasy adventures made in the last years! He has been making TTRPG stuff for a long while and is tackling bigger and more challenging projects lately. His works include Fever Swamp, The Big Squirm, The Isle, many others, and now Sawyers, a urban fantasy heist game that promises a unique way to play! BACK SWYVERS NOW: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/melsonia/swyvers To be honest, I am a fanboy of Luke. His adventures have a very unique weirdness to it, a creativity that's hard to match, and a way to play that is just fun for both the Referee, who is has no idea what's is going to happen, and for the players, who have many options to follow, but always with a good guidance and motivations to play the adventure to its fullest. Wow! In this chat we talked about the many years he has been working with TTRPG, honing his skill. We talked about how he has some issues with the "game designer" term and prefers to just be a "writer", how he is usually not that interested in new systems and mechanics. We talked about his many influences, both in terms of works that shaped the way he creates, and artists who shaped the way he approaches his process. It's a great chat, we go deep, it gets personal, and it's wonderfully weird! So listen up and get weird with us! On this week's episode I travel all the way to Australia to meet up with Pat Decline from the Aussie Skate Punk band THE DECLINE. Pat has had quite an interesting life surrounded by music. The support Pat has received from family and friends has helped THE DECLINE become the band it is today. There are not many people that can say they legitimately traveled around the world to record their first album with a legend in the punk world. That's exactly what THE DECLINE did for their seminal album "I'm Not Gonna Lie To You." From that point, the band was off to the races, performing all over the world and garnering new fans at every stop along the way. Join Pat and I as we have "Half A Beer" while discussing "War" and what songs are "Radio Friendly!"THE DECLINE - "The Werewolf of Fever Swamp" OUT NOW!!! Thanks for listening!!! In this, the first of a new series of bonus episodes that Kyle has proudly dubbed, “My Brother Pissed On Me,” Kyle and his brother Nik reminisce about the 90's phenomenon that was R.L. Primarily focusing their discussion around the book series and the late-90's TV adaptations of The Werewolf of Fever Swamp and A Night in Terror Tower, the 2 brothers nevertheless find plenty of opportunities to verbally piss on one another throughout. Air Date 11/17/2020 Today we take a look at the Republican Party and that which is hath wrought. The deeply racist and conspiratorial constituency has been part of the party for decades but it wasn't always the dominant strain. Today it clearly is and in an age of hyper-polarization and with enthusiastic stoking from Trump, that branch of the party is perfectly primed to splinter from shared reality completely in a spectacular, violent way. It’s the Republican Party Part 1 - The Ezra Klein Show - Air Date 11-12-20 Anne Applebaum, staff writer for the Atlantic, discusses why the GOP ultimately took the path of Sarah Palin and Donald Trump, not John McCain and Mitt Romney and why what separates Never Trumpers from Trump enablers is a steadfast commitment to democracy Ch. 4: The Good Germans - Gaslit Nation with Andrea Chalupa and Sarah Kendzior - Air Date 9-8-20 The phrase “Good Germans” refers to the Germans living in the Third Reich who enabled Hitler and his Nazi regime yet remained in denial that they were doing so. *VOTE FOR THE SOUTH KONGRESS PODCAST AS AUSTIN’S BEST LOCAL PODCAST!* https://www.austinchronicle.com/vote-best-of-austin/ This week's book shows the limitations of only have 120 or so pages to work with. Fantastic description is marred down by a "who done it?" that really only has 2 suspects without much motivation, then gives up a third in the final chapter. It has great use of a first person narrator very aware of his surrounds though, and establishes the parents involved maybe better than any story before it. I talk about all this, and puppies, on this week's episode.
Mom and Dad love science more than their children. Would their be any other reason to leave the picturesque beauty of Vermont for a poop bog life in the swamp? If naming their son Grady wasn't abuse enough, they send their husky child off into the Florida everglades to play while they hang with their deer pals. Video Game/Comic writer Tom Dzuiba joins Matt and Dave on a swampy Cinco De Mayo to trudge deep into the story and return with some surprisingly coherent literary analysis!
Mike Cernovich is notorious on the left because of his past behavior as a social media troll, beginning with Gamergate, and continuing on through Pizzagate and countless other Twitter flare-ups. He's often lumped in with the alt-right, even though his actual politics are a mixed bag of economic populism, anti-interventionism, border restrictionism, animal welfarism, and mild support for Trump, putting him somewhere slightly to the left of David Frum. In the era of Trump, however, it's not your policy preferences that define your politics, it's your positioning within the Culture Wars.Katie Herzog knows this well. Katie, who writes for The Stranger, is gay and an out-and-out leftist. Yet if you ask certain of her detractors on Twitter, they might tell you she's a fascist homophobe. Why? Because she frequently criticizes certain quarters of the left, particularly when it comes to identity-based issues such as de-platforming and cultural appropriation.Mike and Katie have almost nothing in common politically. But they do share a point of view on how on internet shaming and social media mobs are shaping our political discourse, a perspective informed by their own experiences. Mike has been both the target and the perpetrator of online pile-ons, a role he seems to relish. Katie has been more on the receiving end, and while she doesn't quite enjoy the experience, she certainly hasn't ducked for cover in her writing on the cultural battles of the left, either.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/extremelyoffline)

Ren and Adam start their journey into Goosebumps in this episode with a trifecta of werewolf stories: Werewolf of Fever Swamp, Werewolf Skin and the choose-your-own style Night in Werewolf Woods. They discuss the phenomenon that is Goosebumps, contemplate the '90s obsession with gunge, and fall down a bottomless pit and are rescued by a pterodactyl. Will nostalgia win out, or will the outlandish cliffhangers prove too much? Find out in this episode of Still Scared. Happy 25th Episode, Goosebuddies! To commemorate the milestone, we've collected some of our favorite moments from the podcast (many suggested by you). They barely make sense, but we love them. After fighting a bunch of ghosts in the ethereal realm, Paul has returned to the show! But at the temporary cost of Dom. Will the Great Three ever be reunited?! Yes, obviously. Next episode. But until then enjoy this nugget of a werewolf story. Chad and Paul talk about a werewolf that does nothing, a hidden murder plot within the book, how the moon exactly turns lycanthropes (and discover a new movie idea in the process), and dissect The Pick Up Artist. Kino. And hey! We have a sponsor! Thanks to Audible for sponsoring this episode. You can get your own free audiobook trial (and support this show further) by going to audible.com/Goosebuds.
