Dan and Paul are back at it again, creating an entire D&D adventure in just one hour! Armed with only their D&D source books, Matt Finch's excellent Tome of Adventure Design, and the input from live viewers, they'll create a fully stocked and playable D&D dungeon adventure right in front of your eyes. Once it's complete, adventure WDM05 will be posted on DriveThruRPG and free copies distributed to all our faithful patrons!
Dan and Paul chat with Matt Finch, the ENNIE-award winning designer of the Swords & Wizardry game, and who also created OSRIC, and the Quick Primer for Old School Gaming. Plus he made our favorite Tome of Adventure Design, as seen in use in the Wandering DMs Dungeon Design Dashes. Next up on Kickstarter is Matt's Tome of Wordbuilding Design. Is this just in time for all our fantasy worldbuilding needs? The Tome of World Building is written by ENNIE-award winning author Matt Finch, author of the critically-acclaimed Tome of Adventure Design. Using the Tome of World Building, you can create fantasy worlds quickly and fill them out with a wealth of detail from the random-generation tables in this book. This Kickstarter offers two high quality hardcover books to create a trilogy of creative power with the Tome of Adventure Design. The first is the Tome of World Building, allowing you to create maps, cultures, countries, wilderness regions, and all the history and backstabbing politics of a fantasy world. The second is the Nomicon, with tables to invent fantasy names for everything you'll generate using the Tome of World Building. Back Matt Finch's Tome of Worldbuilding on Kickstarter here

Matt Finch is one of the fundamental figures of the OSR style of TTRPG, his works include OSRIC, Swords & Wizardry, the magnificent Tome of Adventure Design, and the super influential Quick Primer for Old School Gaming (among many other things). He is also the founder of Mythmere Games and is constantly making more and more excellent gaming material! It's hard for me to put into words what Mark's work means to me. I don't know if my work would ever be the same without his. The Quick Primer for Old School Gaming, even though meant to help you play games inspired by the first editions of D&D, the document defined a style of play that is not really system dependent, and thus serves as a Game Design framework to design Old-School style games, without necessarily having to use old D&D-like systems. Well, at least that's how I've been using it! But that is just one of the many incredible things he made and that I adore, and in this chat we got to talk a little bit about all of them. We chatted about what the OSR is for us, why we like it so much, how it is based on open-ended situations and improvisation, future projects, greek mythology, adventure design, and so many other things. It was a great chat and even though we talked about so many weirdly wonderful things in a little over 1 hour and a half, when we were finished I felt I could have asked so many more questions and get som many more wisdom from Matt that now I want a "Matt Finch Returns" episode someday. Welcome RPG Ramblings with Jeff Jones. This is a weekly show exploring the various details of the TableTop RPG hobby through discussions with interesting people. Except this week I don't have any guests. I planned to connect with two people this week, but my vacation threw off my groove more than I anticipated. Friday, the day before I normally drop an episode, I was empty-handed, having failed the most basic task of scheduling a guest. Then the idea hit me. Why not have episodes on adventure creation sprinkled in with my regular episodes? Just to be clear, I have very little experience in writing adventures. By little I mean, I wrote one. Saying it was mediocre is being generous. But I will not let ignorance impede my hubris. It is not enough to write an adventure, it must be worthy of publishing. That is the goal of this series, to come up with an idea and see it all the way through the process. But, I will not do it alone. I will get help from guests and from you, the listeners, because when it comes to adventure writing, I only have questions. I have no idea the direction this series will take, it is as much of a mystery for me as it is for you. Don't worry folks, this is not supplanting the normal RPG Ramblings podcasts…..I will be jumping back and forth. It is seven thirty, Saturday morning. Adventure awaits. Sisters and Brothers, it is time to get rambling. --- Locations/Titles Poisoned Forest of the Snake beast Monastery of the Moon Beast Pulsing Crypt of the Crocodile God Dimensional Monolith of the Mad Idol Decomposing Stronghold of the Sabertooth Society Locations Awakening- Webs Time- Rooms Slime- Kiln Mutation- Organs Feeding Kennels Flesh- Boxes Gate- Machine Missions Bribe or negotiate with Intelligent monster Explore Swamp Sabotage Religious item Smuggle Evidence of crime Explore Ruins Incriminate or frame Illusionist --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jeffrey-jones6/message

Dan & Paul chat with Matt Finch, creator of Swords & Wizardry, about his Revised Tome of Adventure Design! Tome of Adventure Design is a comprehensive, start-to-finish resource for designing fantasy adventures for your favorite tabletop role-playing game. It is system neutral, and can be used with virtually any fantasy game. This book includes random generation tables for almost every step of the design process: locations, villainous plots, designing new monsters, and bizarre environments in strange, unknown planes of existence. Thousands of micro-prompts in the margins add additional brainstorming power to the process, and the book is filled with design advice from award-winning author Matt Finch. "It's over 300 pages of randomly selected jolts to the brain. In the introduction, Finch states that the point of incorporating randomness into your adventure writing is “to deliver cryptic results designed to shock the reader's creativity into filling in the gaps” … Let me emphasize his use of the word “shock” in that passage. It's perfect. The moment when two, three, or more nonsensical, fragmentary, contradictory notions gel into a coherent and fresh idea is shocking. It's revelatory. It's magical. And it's inspiring…" Steve Winter, Designer & Contributor, Dungeons & Dragons for TSR and Wizards of the Coast Get the Revised Tome of Adventure Design hereAnd see the completed Kickstarter page here Wandering DMs Paul Siegel and Dan “Delta” Collins host thoughtful discussions on D&D and other TTRPGs every week. Welcome to Gamers and Gadgets, a podcast by Models Workshop. Gamers and Gadgets is not exactly a spin off from the long running After Hours podcast but a way to explore more aspects of the hobby than miniature painting. Everyone knows Larry, the long running and long suffering front runner of the Models Workshop podcasts. Joining him in this Adventure are Marie, Chloe, and Krys (aka Mino) bringing in their experiences with games and gadgets. We strive for all things nerdy, bringing you vast geeky energy. We cover collectable card games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh to the world of miniatures game play from Games Workshop games like Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar to miniature painting and airbrushing. We also discuss our favorite movies, books, and music that we are excited for. Larry is a former book reviewer for The Founding Fields and enjoys listening to many podcasts while driving down the road. Marie is a wiz on 3d printers, both filament and resin, has a love of print and play and solo play games, and has been running various role playing games from Dungeons and Dragons to Pathfinder plus many other independent systems for years. Chloe is a miniature painter and MTG alterist. Krystopher is Larry's long time friend from the MMO RPG video game City of Villains. As a whole we just enjoy sitting back and discussing what we have been doing, the various Kickstarters that hit the market and to the guests we bring on the show. So sit back and get your nerdon, and remember…. rawr Song: Chime & MDK - Arcade Dwellers [NCS Release] Music provided by NoCopyrightSounds Free Download/Stream: http://NCS.io/ArcadeDwellers Watch: http://youtu.be/FZ1Bl0Mk5uA

Adventure Design as Technology Recorded at Metatopia 2014 Presented by Cam Banks & Rob Donoghue. We started with a map and a key. There have been structural improvements since then: boxed text, wandering monsters, plot point adventures, hard and soft points, personality-driven dungeons, mad libs plots and many more. This process has not been rigors, so the spread of these ideas has been haphazard and without the thought that’s gone into rules improvements. That is a shame. Take some time to talk about these technologies and how they can help you make better adventures. Episode 42: Adventure Design as Technology Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (235)
