We celebrated the Detroit Pistons snapping their record-setting 29-game losing streak, by discussing things we are not very good at or just never win at… and the front runners are Monopoly, Madden and Fantasy Football. Plus Draymond Green made headlines for attending LeBron’s birthday party – but does it matter that he’s currently suspended? This also leads Rob to talk about the celebrities that threw the best birthday parties, and he shares a story about crashing Vin Diesel’s birthday party in Miami. And ESPN is in trouble for airing a woman flashing her boobs during a shot from Bourbon Street during the Sugar Bowl, so Rob shares his experience at Mardi Gras and talks about other events he wants to attend in his lifetime. And with Jokic saying he wants to be left alone and become “unknown” when his career is over because he hates the attention, we ask Rob if he can relate or has any stories about being baited by the public. Finally Rob has not heard of the Gypsy Rose Blanchard story, which blows everyone’s mind, and we talk about New Year’s Resolutions we set and then end up dodging as we start 2024.

S Rob Skiba died on Oct. 15 The report is that he died from Covid-19.  I won't say much about that other than I'm suspicious of foul play because there was so much that he challenged, but I don't have any evidence of that so I'm not claiming that's the case just Made a big impact on me My wife has been searching for truth and challenging the traditions of men in our Christian practices before I did, and Rob opened her eyes first and then me to a number of things that are in the Bible but are ignored by most Christians. There are 4 main issues for which Rob really impacted me One of those issues is the Nephilim talked about in Genesis 6 and other places in the Bible, as well as in extra biblical texts Another issue is being Torah observant Another is the Flat Earth movement Finally, Rob believed that we need to share the truth from the Bible in a way that competes with Hollywood, and one of his passions was to produce a TV Series called The Seed.  I don't know what will happen to that vision, but I was very excited about seeing that come out In addition to learning about each of these issues, I learned several lessons from Rob about how to live out our Christian walk. First of all, he showed me courage in the face of ridicule and adversity.  He cared what people thought, as all of us do, but he didn't let his fear of man prevent him from pursuing truth. Rob also showed me the value of a sense of humor.  He was very funny and that humor was woven into all of his teaching. Finally Rob showed me the importance of research.  There are very few people I can think of that did a better job of researching the theories that he considered.  He didn't just say what he believed and expected us to believe.  He backed it up with scripture, and he tested his theory in a very rigorous fashion. This week's Cinema Eclectica is devoted entirely to Badaptations - those times when, in between the page and the screen, something vital goes missing. Graham's choice is 1995's The Scarlet Letter, in which one of the most introverted and spiritual of 19th-century novels is turned into a Demi Moore bonkbuster. Hester Prynne isn't the only one suffering from lack of fidelity. Being too faithful to the source can also be an issue, as Aidan discovers when he reviews the slavishly accurate L Ron Hubbard adap Battlefield Earth. Hundreds of people worked on this film and not one of them challenged John Travolta on his outfit. Finally Rob rounds us out with World War Z, a classic case of Hollywood buying up a cult bestseller, realising it can't be turned into a PG-13 action movie, then going ahead and doing it anyway. I was joined in the studio on Friday 14 December by Al Daw and Rob Cole for my weekly Business Live programme on Sheffield Live. The podcast is here.Rob runs Sheffield Sustainable Kitchens which he launched nearly 11 years ago. Now the praise and accolades are unstoppable – two weeks ago SSK was named winner of the Excellence in Corporate, Social and Environmental Responsibility Award at the Sheffield Business Awards. The company was founded on the basis of environmental and social responsibility, says Rob. Its beautiful kitchens are built from reclaimed and recycled timber and other woods. They are stunning (check out the gallery on their website). In the interview Rob talks us through how and why he launched the business, its environmental and social impacts, an initial period of growth up to five employees, the recent spurt of growth to 15 staff and the challenges on the way."I'm still learning now," he says, "When I started I knew what I was doing about how to fit and design a kitchen – I've learned a lot since then about how to run and lead a business."Businesses can and must be agents for change and for mitigating our environmental impact, says Rob. Governments are failing to lead or to really encourage the change. "We need a serious push if we are to avert climatic disasters," Rob adds, and so "the business community needs to drive forward positive changes."That lead us on to a conversation about corporate social responsibility and greenwash. But Rob explained why he's hopeful for the future. Finally Rob reveals the decision he made relatively early on (but which he wished he'd made earlier) and how that led to a drastic increase in customers. Also on the programme: Al Daw who has taken on a new space which he is developing into a gallery, creative project space and arts club. The space is Sidney And Matilda. What's it all about, and what's the vision for this exciting new gallery and space? Al spills the beans. We cover collecting art and supporting grass-routes artists; cynicism in the corporate art world; collaboration between artists and more.
