You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." *Transcription of original episode* Raising Healthy Kids: Free Tips with Emily Johnson (Episode 275) Hi, I'm Emily Johnson. I am a homeschool mama of two beautiful kiddos, married to my high school sweetheart, and the owner of Gracious Healing, a online nutritional practice that works with families to get to the root of their health issues with a holistic view and approach. I deeply love Jesus and pursue Him in all that I do, including health. After walking through decades of undiagnosed health issues, I was lead to the world of functional medicine and eventually into the holistic health world. After finding support for my body and that of my kids (who have been on their own health journeys) I was able to pursue further education and began working with clients on a 1:1 basis, to help them find the hope and health that I have found. Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
This portion of Paul's letter is specifically addressed to the Jewish members of the churches in Rome. He is explaining to them a spiritual truth based on their common experience as Jews in reading and trying to obey the Law of Moses (Genesis through Deuteronomy). Today two thousand years later as we listen in on that conversation, it's easy to miss how it applies to us. But it does apply. In fact, Paul is talking about an area of relationship with God in which we all struggle. There is an odd phenomenon we observe in ourselves. When God speaks to us, whether through His written Word, or by the inner voice of the Holy Spirit, or prophetically through another human vessel, there can be an initial, momentary flash of stubborn resistance even though we may be certain we just heard from Him. As a born-again believer I love Him and have made a sincere, general commitment to follow Him in every way. Yet there's something about His specific ways of doing things that runs counter to the way I would expect or prefer to do them. Often, no almost always, when God speaks some kind of command to me, I find my first reaction is to argue with Him. My emotional response, if put into words, might be summarized as, "Oh no! You've got to be kidding!" This passage helps to explain why I react that way, and that insight is essential for me if I am going to let God train me to become like His Son. Submit a Question or CommentIn this verse-by-verse study of Job 36, Reasoning Through the Bible follows Elihu as he shifts the focus away from man-centered thinking and back onto the character of God. While Job and his friends were often preoccupied with human suffering from a human angle, Elihu gives a different perspective: God speaks in our affliction and teaches us through suffering. This session explores why so much modern Bible teaching becomes overly focused on what people can get from God rather than who God is in His nature. Job 36 pushes in the opposite direction. Elihu speaks about God's justice, power, mercy, wisdom, and greatness, and shows that true spiritual depth begins with theology proper — the study of God Himself. The episode also addresses the difference between outward religion and a renewed heart, why the Word of God renews the mind, how God delivers people in suffering rather than always from suffering, why the health and wealth gospel fails, and why no human being has grounds to judge God. The chapter closes with Elihu describing storms, rain, thunder, and lightning as testimonies to the greatness of the unsearchable God. Topics in this episode include: Job 36 explained God speaks in suffering theology proper God's character and nature renewed heart and renewed mind the failure of the health and wealth gospel who are we to judge God what we can know about God God's greatness in creation Reasoning Through the Bible is a verse-by-verse Bible teaching ministry committed to careful exposition, biblical context, and faithful application.Support the showThank you for listening!! In Genesis 46, Jacob is about to leave everything familiar behind—but before he moves, something powerful happens: God speaks. After what feels like a long silence, God calls out to Jacob in the night: “Jacob, Jacob… Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt.” (Genesis 46:2–3) This moment reminds us that God may seem silent—but He is never absent. And when He speaks, it is always right on time. -Do you want to be an active member of 21c Moses? Then, consider becoming a 21c Moses Patreon! Submit a Question or CommentIn this verse-by-verse Bible study of Job 33:19–34:9, Reasoning Through the Bible explores one of the hardest but most important questions in suffering: can God use pain to get our attention and draw us back to Himself? Elihu argues that God may use physical pain, weakness, and affliction to humble a person, expose spiritual need, and turn the soul away from destruction. This session carefully explains the balance that must be maintained. Not every sickness or suffering is a direct punishment for personal sin, but suffering can still become a means through which God teaches, disciplines, and refocuses His people. The discussion shows how Elihu differs from Job's other friends by not merely blaming Job, but by pointing to the character and purposes of God. The episode also highlights the remarkable language of ransom in Job 33 and connects it to the larger biblical teaching that God provides redemption for sinners. It then turns to Job 34, where Elihu begins correcting Job's claim that there is no profit in following God. This becomes a deeply practical reminder that the Christian life is not about physical comfort first, but about spiritual life, relationship with God, and the fruit of the Spirit. Topics in this episode include: Job 33 explained Job 34 explained can God use suffering discipline and pain in the Bible ransom and redemption spiritual awakening through suffering why follow God if the righteous suffer the fruit of the Spirit God's purpose in affliction Reasoning Through the Bible is a verse-by-verse Bible teaching ministry committed to careful exposition, biblical context, and faithful application.Support the showThank you for listening!! Submit a Question or CommentIn this verse-by-verse Bible study of Job 32–33, Reasoning Through the Bible reaches a turning point in the book as Elihu enters the conversation. He is angry with Job for justifying himself before God, and angry with Job's three friends because they condemned Job without answering him well. This session explores what Elihu gets wrong, what he gets right, and why his first words matter so much. This study also deals with practical Christian wisdom: how to respond when angry, why age alone does not guarantee wisdom, why flattery is dangerous, and why believers must measure all counsel by the Word of God rather than by personality, confidence, or volume. Elihu speaks with sincerity, but also with a very high opinion of himself, and that tension gives believers a needed warning. The second half of the episode turns to one of the most important themes in the passage: how God speaks to people. Elihu says that God speaks, but people do not notice. He describes people as spiritually asleep until God opens their ears, warns them, and turns them away from destruction. This becomes a powerful explanation of conviction, awakening, and the way God uses His Word to call sinners to Himself. Topics in this episode include: Job 32 explained Job 33 explained Elihu enters the book of Job anger and self-control wisdom and age flattery and pride God does not owe explanations how God speaks spiritual awakening and conviction Reasoning Through the Bible is a verse-by-verse Bible teaching ministry committed to careful exposition, biblical context, and faithful application.Support the showThank you for listening!! Genesis 1:26-27 God Speaks About Himself in the Plural It’s a small detail, but it makes you stop and think: “Let us make… in our image.” From the very beginning, God speaks of himself in the plural. This is not confusion or contradiction. It is a quiet glimpse into the mystery Christians later confess in more detail. The one true God is triune: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Here, already in creation, the triune God is at work together. And what is the result of this divine counsel? Humanity. You were not an after-thought or an accident. You were created intentionally, personally, and wonderfully. The triune God crafted human beings in his own image, capable of knowing him, reflecting his holiness, and living in perfect relationship with him and with one another. But when we look at ourselves and our world, something feels off. The image is cracked and distorted. Sin has broken what God made perfect. Instead of reflecting God’s holiness, we often reflect selfishness, pride, and fear. Instead of living in harmony, we experience division and pain. Yet the triune God did not abandon what he made. The Father sent his Son into the world. Jesus Christ, the eternal Son, is called “the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). Where we have failed to reflect God, he does so perfectly. He lives the life we could not live and dies the death we deserved, restoring what was broken. And the Holy Spirit continues God’s creative work even now. Through the gospel, he renews hearts and reshapes lives, restoring the image of God within us. What was shattered is being made whole again. So, when you hear God say, “Let us make,” remember that this same triune God is still speaking and still working. You are not forgotten or without purpose. You were created by God, redeemed by God, and are being renewed by God. Prayer: Thank you, triune God, for your continuing work in me. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. God spoke with Jeremiah and gave him a message for King Zedekiah: Jerusalem would fall, but God would preserve his life. The devotional centers on the enduring importance of obedience to God's Word, drawing from Deuteronomy 12:28 to illustrate that faithful adherence brings not only present blessing but lasting generational impact. It emphasizes that obedience is not merely a legalistic requirement but a pathway to divine favor, spiritual vitality, and the shaping of future generations, as demonstrated by contrasting the godly legacy of Jonathan Edwards with the destructive lineage of Max Jude. The message calls believers to examine their lives through the lens of Psalm 139, inviting repentance and reliance on the Holy Spirit to align with God's will. It challenges modern cultural self-centeredness by urging a generational perspective, where personal choices ripple outward to affect children, grandchildren, and beyond. Ultimately, the sermon presents obedience as a transformative, life-giving response to God's love, rooted in the eternal truth of Scripture and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Opener: When you think of famous movie endings, what do you think of? What made that ending so impactful. Discussion: 1. Read John 14:25-30. If you were in the room when Jesus was saying these words what would your impression be? What would be your understanding of the Holy Spirit? 2. Read Acts 1:8. What is your understanding of the type of power we receive from the Holy Spirit? Is there a gap between your belief and your experience? 3. Do you have a tendency to rely on other parts of your faith (worship, Scripture, community) over the Holy Spirit? How can you increase your dependence on the Spirit? 4. How have you experienced the Holy Spirit speak through Scripture? Discuss the partnership between people and the Spirit. 5. We can use Scripture to understand God's character, hear His voice, love others, and test our experience. What might each of these things look like practically in our lives? Close in prayer asking for power from the Holy Spirit.
This series is a study of the book of Job and two important questions Job's story brings up. There's the question Job had in his suffering (and that we have in our own sufferings): “God, where were you?” And then God's question to Job: “Where were you?” We hope that this ministry has blessed you in some way and that you would consider liking, subscribing, and sharing this channel with your friends, family, or a person God has placed on your heart. Elijah had just called down fire from heaven. And then he collapsed under a broom tree and told God he had nothing left. God's response wasn't a rebuke. He let him sleep, sent an angel to feed him, and said the journey is too much for you. And when God finally spoke, it wasn't in the earthquake or the fire. It was in the still small voice. The wilderness stripped away the noise. The exhaustion stripped away self-sufficiency. God had to get Elijah quiet before He could get Elijah moving again. That pattern hasn't changed. The people most ready to hear God's call are rarely the ones standing on the mountain in triumph. They're often the ones sitting in the dust, depleted, wondering if any of it matters. So here's the honest question: have you put yourself in a position where you can actually hear Him?Pursuing God with Gene Appel is designed to help you pursue God, build community, and unleash compassion. Grounded in Scripture and shaped by Eastside's conviction that God's grace is for everyone, each episode invites you to discover God's presence and activity in your life.
What does God say when you demand answers from Him?After chapters of silence, in Job 38-42 God finally speaks, and His answer isn't what anyone expects. Instead of explaining Job's suffering or defending His decisions, God shows up in a whirlwind and asks Job 77 questions. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Can you command the morning? Do you control the constellations? The answer, of course, is no. And that's the point. God doesn't come as a defendant to answer Job's case. He takes the bench as Judge, and Job drops to his knees and drops the lawsuit entirely. What you'll learn:God's response to Job's suffering: Why God answers Job's painful questions with questions of His own, and why that's actually the most profound comfort imaginable. The Behemoth and Leviathan: What two terrifying creatures have to do with trusting God when life feels completely out of your controlThe turning point: How Job goes from demanding a courtroom confrontation with God to covering his mouth in awe, and what that shift looks like for us in our own strugglesThe friends get their verdict: Why the three friends who had all the "right answers" are the ones God is angry with, and the stunning way Job respondsJob's restoration: What to make of Job's happy ending, why some people find it unsatisfying, and the freeing truth hidden in it about grace, trust, and God's mysterious waysGroup Discussion Questions for Job 38–42:Job covered his mouth with his hand in stunned silence when God revealed Himself. Have you ever experienced a moment where God's greatness left you in stunned silence? How did that feel?God asks Job 77 questions about creation that Job can't answer. Does knowing how little we know or understand about our life and our world bring you comfort or anxiety? Why do you think that is?Job was asked to pray for the very friends who hurt him deeply. we are now moving forward in Christian maturity understanding how to speak the truth and love and it's difficulties. our human nature doesn't like confrontation but the Bible because God is love, he confronts his children as a good parent would. The holy Spirit in the word of God commands us to speak truth and love and we do not get the choice, we just must have the courage to do so. it's hard to love someone who is wrong but since Jesus has no respect or person again we are commanded to. is it hard of course but think of the alternative if Jesus died so that we can buy faith move mountains and become more than a conqueror why do we make excuses for not maturing in Christ?
Amos chapter 5 God delivers a powerful call to seek Him, not empty religion. Episode 8 in the Series God Has Spoken explores the difference between outward worship and genuine repentance, and why God's invitation still stands today: “Seek ye me, and ye shall live.”

Every relationship begins when someone moves first. And when it comes to knowing God, it's never us. It's always Him. From the beginning, God has been the one initiating. The Bible doesn't begin with a silent God, but a speaking God. Join Keith Waggoner in Hebrews 1 as he points to the primary way that God speaks.

God Speaks to Jesus Followers Through the Holy Spirit's Inward Voice, and with the Spirit, He Gave His Personal Relationship MESSAGE SUMMARY: Isaiah tells us in Isaiah 30:21: "And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,' when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.". We know, from the New Testament, that Jesus Followers are given the Holy Spirit to walk with them -- "a word behind you". Since the Holy Spirit takes up residence in you, the way the Lord speaks to you is through the inward witness of the Holy Spirit -- the Spirit will speak, and you will know that it is the Lord. In John 14:26, Jesus reminds us about His promise, to His followers, of the “Helper” (Holy Spirit): “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”. Additionally, in John 16-7, Jesus tells us that not only will the Holy Spirit be your “Helper”, the Holy Spirit will be your “Comforter”: “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him {the Comforter} unto you.". For Jesus Followers, God speaks through the inward voice of the Holy Spirit who He gave to us along with a personal relationship with Him. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, you know how difficult it is for me to be in silence before you. At times it feels almost impossible, given the demands, distractions, and noise all around me. I invite you to lead me to a quiet, silent place before you — to a place where I can hear you as Elijah did. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 123). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Loneliness. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Presence. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Ezekiel 22:30-31; Isaiah 30:21; John 14:23-27; John 16:7-13; Psalms 134:1-3. A WORD FROM THE LORD WEBSITE: www.AWFTL.org. Most of us want to see results before we trust. God asks for trust before we see results. In Joshua 6, Israel faces the walls of Jericho, and God's strategy is to march in silence for seven days. Brad Kirby opens CityBridge's new Joshua: Mission series by tracing the three-part pattern at the heart of this chapter: God speaks His promises before anything visibly changes, His people walk in faithful obedience, and God wins a victory that leaves no question about who gets the credit. If you're in a season of faithful, unglamorous obedience with nothing to show for it yet, this message will anchor you.
