There is no objectively 'right' of 'wrong' way how we perceive and experience the breath in Ānāpānasati (Mindfulness of In & Out Breath) meditation. Perception of internal phenomena is entirely subjective. However, there are ways of perceiving and feeling the breath that are conducive to deepening our samādhi & insight, and there are other ways of perceiving that have the opposite effect. Therefore, when doing breath meditation, we deliberately cultivate those perceptions and feelings that are helpful for us to deepen the meditiaton. The Buddha in particular advised to feel and experience our whole physical body when doing Anapanasati, and to cultivate contentment, gladness, joy, rapture, bliss and happiness with every inbreath and every outbreath. L'ère du score carbone personnel : Quand votre banquier devient votre conscience Par Régis BAUDOUIN « Transaction refusée : Quota carbone mensuel atteint. Conclusion : Conscience ou contrainte ?

Walter Kirn says the term “influencer” is “fundamentally creepy” as technocratic elites increasingly use mass nudging to psychologically manipulate the masses – and suppress the truth about UFO disclosure, pandemics, and the war in Iran. Amidst the strange disappearances of rocket scientists like Monica Jacinto Reza and Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland, Kirn warns “something awful is happening” – and the truth may be darker than anything Hollywood could conjure. Walter Kirn (author of Up In The Air, adapted into a hit movie starring George Clooney) also discusses his new Hollywood project: writing the screenplay for a film about Dr. Jay Bhattacharya. As powerful forces reportedly try to stop the movie, Kirn breaks down the “creepy” reality of modern propaganda, censorship… and what he knows about the government's hidden UFO disclosure files. Chef Adalberto Diaz shares his journey of escaping poverty in Communist Cuba to build a successful business in America, and Dr. SueLyn Hall discusses how overcoming childhood trauma can dramatically improve the nervous system and increase longevity. What exactly is a sign?  At first glance, that might sound like a strange question. Signs are everywhere: telling us where to go, what to do, what not to do, and sometimes what might happen if we ignore instructions. But as my guest, Jeffrey Ludlow Saentz explains, signs are much more than bits of information on walls or beside roads.Episode Summary Jeffrey is a signage designer who works on complex buildings and environments around the world — airports, offices, museums, and other places where helping people find their way really matters. He's also the author of A Sign Is..., a fascinating book exploring the history, meaning, and cultural significance of the signs that shape our everyday behaviour. In this conversation, we explore why good signage is often invisible, how buildings “speak” to us through wayfinding systems, and what signs reveal about power, trust, and human behaviour. Along the way we discuss hacked traffic signs, casino design, airport navigation, and why something as simple as an arrow carries centuries of history.AI-Generated Timestamped Summary 00:00 – Introduction: why signs are more interesting than they first appear03:00 – How Jeffrey became a signage designer04:00 – The challenge of helping people navigate complex buildings07:00 – What actually is a sign?09:00 – Why “everything can be a sign”11:00 – The power dynamics behind signage and authority13:00 – How designers observe signage in the real world14:30 – Cultural differences in wayfinding and navigation19:30 – Why Jeffrey wrote A Sign Is..22:00 – The fascinating history of fire safety signage24:00 – Curiosity and the stories hidden behind everyday signs27:00 – Hacked construction signs and unexpected messages31:00 – Trust, authority, and information on signs35:00 – Advertising, nudging, and attention36:00 – Information overload and competing signals39:00 – The learned language of signs and symbols41:00 – Why good signage is “invisible” when it works43:00 – Airports, trust, and wayfinding design46:00 – How people become signage designers47:30 – How casinos, airports, and museums use signs differently50:00 – The psychology of navigation54:00 – Why signage can't work perfectly for everyone57:00 – Why wayfinding is an art rather than a science01:02:00 – Jeffrey's book A Sign Is and where to find it01:04:00 – What signs might look like in the future In this episode we discussKey TopicsWhy signage is a form of behavioural communicationHow buildings “talk” to people through wayfinding systemsThe psychology of navigation and spatial awarenessWhy good signage is invisibleHow casinos deliberately make navigation harderWhy museums minimise signs while airports maximise themThe cultural differences in how places are navigatedWhat hacked traffic signs reveal about trust in authorityWhy signs act as nudges that shape behaviourThe limits of signage when designing for large groupsHow digital navigation may change our relationship with physical signsAbout JeffreyJeffrey Ludlow is a signage and wayfinding designer and founder of Point of Reference Studio, a design practice specialising in signage systems, environmental graphics, and branding for public environments. In this episode, we welcome back return guest Hank Bessembinder for a deeply analytical conversation spanning leveraged ETFs, volatility, and the future of performance measurement. Hank walks us through his latest research on leveraged single-stock ETFs, clarifying the misunderstood concept of "volatility decay" and decomposing returns into rebalancing effects and frictions. The results are striking: meaningful underperformance relative to simple levered benchmarks, driven by both embedded costs and the mechanics of daily resets. In the second half, we shift gears to a more foundational question: What is a return, really? Hank challenges the dominance of arithmetic averages and even geometric means, arguing that neither truly captures the long-term investor experience. He introduces the concept of the sustainable return—a measure based on the cash flows an investment can support without depleting capital—and outlines how it could reshape academic finance and real-world financial planning. Key Points From This Episode:   (0:01:03) Welcome back to Hank Bessembinder and overview of his recent research. (0:06:16) What "volatility decay" really means—and why the term may be misleading. (0:09:16) Why volatility does not necessarily reduce mean returns in constant leverage ETFs. (0:10:11) Ex-ante decision-making and the wedge between mean and median outcomes. (0:11:26) Single-stock vs. index leveraged ETFs: Similar mechanics, different magnitudes. (0:12:52) Why past research has been so cautionary about long-term use of leveraged ETFs. (0:15:53) How rebalancing costs differ for long and short leveraged products. (0:16:57) The benchmark: Levered buy-and-hold versus constant daily rebalancing. (0:19:46) Empirical results: Long funds underperform by ~0.8% per month; short funds by ~1% per month. (0:21:10) Decomposing underperformance into rebalancing effects and frictions. (0:24:15) The real (though rare) possibility of returns below –100% in leveraged products. (0:27:04) Simulation results over 50 years: Skewness, negative medians, and rebalancing drag. (0:28:38) Why volatility tends to coincide with reversals—and why reversals drive rebalancing costs. (0:31:15) Practical guidance: Who, if anyone, should use leveraged single-stock ETFs. (0:34:58) The limitations of arithmetic means and single-period models. (0:36:55) Why aggregate investors are not buy-and-hold investors. (0:39:17) The shortcomings of arithmetic averages, alphas, and Sharpe ratios for long-horizon measurement. (0:42:38) Why log returns don't solve the core measurement problems. (0:44:56) The case for dollar-weighted returns and the limitations of IRRs. (0:48:18) Modified IRRs and their role in capturing aggregate investor outcomes. (0:50:14) Introducing the sustainable return: Measuring what can be withdrawn without depleting capital. (0:53:22) Expected sustainable return and its close relationship to the geometric mean. (0:56:09) Proportional sustainable return and withdrawal-based performance measurement. (1:00:00) Individual stock returns through the lens of sustainable returns. Welcome to Mind the Kids, the podcast from the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.  Today's episode takes us into the complex world of parenting programmes—the backbone of many early interventions for children with disruptive behaviour problems. This episode is entitles 'More Than Money: Nudging Parents, Breaking Barriers, Transforming Futures'. Host Mark Tebbs speaks with Dr. Nathan Hodson, child and adolescent psychiatrist and researcher at the University of Warwick, whose work explores how financial incentives might help bring more parents into these transformative programmes. Drawing on behavioural economics and evidence from a systematic review and meta-analysis, Nathan and Mark delve into one of the field's most pressing challenges: engagement.  As they discuss, the question isn't whether parenting support works—the evidence is clear that it does—but how to ensure families facing the toughest circumstances can access and stay with it. Could small, well-targeted incentives help remove barriers such as transport, childcare, or lost work time? And what does it mean for equity, motivation, and policy design? This episode is as much about compassion as it is about data. It's a conversation that asks us to see every parent not as “hard to reach,” but as balancing complex lives where practical help can make all the difference. Whether you're a policymaker, practitioner, or researcher, you'll find insight here into how behavioural nudges and empathy might work hand in hand to build fairer, more effective systems of support. Mind the Kids brings research to life—because improving children's mental health starts with understanding the stories behind the studies. This episode relates to ACAMH's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Journal paper 'Review: Systematic review and meta-analysis – financial incentives increase engagement with parenting programs for disruptive behavior problems' Nathan Hodson, Madiha Majid, Richard James, Eileen K. What if the biggest AI risk isn't bias or data, but human behaviour itself? How might AI impact the people using it and what does that mean for how we design solutions and deploy the technology?Episode SummaryOn this episode, I'm joined by a returning guest.  Richard Chataway is a behavioural science expert and strategist who joins me to explore how we can design AI systems that truly work for humans. Richard brings a unique lens to the conversation, combining insights from advertising, government policy, and behavioural science to unpack the human drivers that shape how we build and interact with AI. We discuss everything from cognitive biases and persuasive tech to the ethics of design and how these hidden forces influence our relationship with intelligent machines.During our conversation, Richard explains the importance of context and behavioural frameworks in making AI more ethical, effective, and human-centric. We explore real-world examples of effective and ineffective design, examining where intentions diverge from outcomes and what can be done to address these discrepancies. Richard shares fascinating insights from his book "The Behaviour Business" and his experience in both the public and private sectors, offering a practical yet thought-provoking look at what it really means to design for behaviour in the age of AI.Whether you're an AI sceptic, enthusiast, or simply curious about how technology intersects with human behaviour, this episode offers a compelling exploration of the invisible levers shaping our digital lives. From nudging with intent to avoiding manipulation, Richard helps us understand how behavioural science can make the future of AI more aligned with our values and less prone to unintended consequences.Guest BiographyRichard is a Behavioural Scientist, Author and Podcaster who heads up the Behaviour Change Team at Concentrix, a Fortune 500 global technology and transformation company, working with around 2000 brands globally in over 70 different countries. There are few more prolific Americans than the Harvard scholar, activist and athlete Cass Sunstein. The author of almost 30 books (including the best-selling Nudge) as well as an influential advisor in the Presidencies of Biden and Obama, Sunstein's new book, On Liberalism, is an unambiguously full throated defense of freedom. Both Reagan and FDR are part of the same big tent liberal family, Sunstein argues, in this defiantly bipartisan reminder of foundations of modern American freedom. There's not a lot of nudging On Liberalism. He warns that while liberalism faces "severe pressure" today, its core commitments to freedom, pluralism, and the rule of law must unite American citizens across political divides. The alternative, he says, is an unAmerican scenario of unfreedom. In a word: illiberalism. 1. The Liberal "Big Tent" Includes Both Reagan and FDRSunstein argues that liberalism isn't just for the left—it's a broad tradition unified by commitments to freedom, pluralism, rule of law, and security (freedom from fear). This tent includes everyone from Margaret Thatcher to Tony Blair, from Ronald Reagan to Franklin Roosevelt, united against illiberal forces like Hitler, Stalin, and Putin.2. "Experiments in Living" Are Liberalism's FoundationWhile just a throwaway line for John Stuart Mill, Sunstein sees "experiments in living" as central to liberalism. Whether it's entrepreneurs trying new businesses, people exploring different religious commitments, or individuals choosing unconventional lifestyles, liberalism protects and celebrates this diversity of human experience.3. Nudging and Freedom Are CompatibleSunstein defends his famous "nudge" concept as fundamentally liberal. Like a GPS that suggests routes but lets you choose your destination (or ignore its advice entirely), nudges inform and guide while preserving freedom of choice. Calorie labels nudge but don't coerce; you can still choose the fudge.4. Liberalism Faces "Severe Pressure" But Isn't CollapsingWhile warning that attacks on universities and political opponents are "not consistent with liberal traditions," Sunstein maintains optimism. America's robust liberal foundations—from the Revolutionary War to its cultural commitment to freedom—remain strong, though renewal and vigilance are needed now more than ever.5. Both Right and Left Harbor Illiberal TendenciesSunstein critiques illiberalism across the spectrum: from those who attack political opponents and universities on the right, to the "woke left" that sometimes opposes free speech and seeks to shame rather than persuade. His prescription: a liberalism focused on opportunity and individual agency, free from shaming and open to all. This is a public episode. Grandpa Bill: Welcome back, memory masters and curious minds, to The BH Sales Kennel Kelp Holistic Healing Hour! I'm your host, Grandpa Bill, and you're listening to the second installment of our Major System Bootcamp Review. Yesterday, we took a whirlwind tour through my memory palace, exploring stations 11-20 and some of the wild, wonderful, and wonderfully weird PAO images that are helping me master the art of recall, all thanks to the inspiration of Dr. Anthony Metivier's Magnetic Memory Method. Now, if you tuned in yesterday, you might have heard me stumbling over a few concepts, or maybe felt like I was explaining things a little too abstractly. Well, consider this "Part Two" my official on-air correction and clarification session! Today, we're not just talking about memory techniques; we're going to demonstrate them.Because sometimes, talking about a "PAO system" or a "Major System" can feel a bit like discussing theoretical physics. But when you hold up an actual example, it clicks! And that's exactly what I'm doing right here, right now. For those of you listening, imagine I'm holding up a simple 3x5 index card. On this card, I've got my Major PAO system laid out for the numbers 0 through 9.Let's start with the basics, and this is where I want to correct any confusion from yesterday. The Major System works by assigning a consonant sound to each digit. It's a phonetic alphabet for numbers!0: S or Z sound (think "zero" or "sun")1: T or D sound (think "tie" or "dog")2: N sound (think "Noah" or "gnome")3: M sound (think "Ma" or "Moe")4: R sound (think "roar" or "row")5: L sound (think "lip" or "lawn")6: J, Ch, Sh, G (soft) sound (think "jaw" or "church" or "shoe")7: K, C (hard), G (hard) sound (think "key" or "cow" or "gum")8: F or V sound (think "fife" or "van")9: P or B sound (think "pie" or "bee")Grandpa Bill: So, looking at my index card, for each number, I've assigned a Person, an Action, and an Object – that's the PAO! This isn't just about memorizing a sound; it's about creating a living, breathing character that embodies that sound. And this is crucial for the Magnetic Memory Method because it allows us to combine these elements to form incredibly vivid, unique, and therefore unforgettable scenes.Let's walk through a few from my personal system, right off this index card:For the number 0 (S/Z sound): My Person is Sonic (the hedgehog, of course!), my Action is Sprinting, and my Object is a Soccer ball. So, Sonic sprinting with a soccer ball. Simple, right? But incredibly effective. For the number 1 (T/D sound): My Person is Thor, my Action is Throwing, and his Object is his Hammer (Mjolnir). Imagine Thor throwing his hammer – boom! Instant memory trigger. For the number 2 (N sound): My Person is Neo (from The Matrix), his Action is Nudging, and his Object is a Net. Neo nudging a net. A bit quirky, a bit unexpected, and that's exactly what makes it stick! For the number 3 (M sound): My Person is Marge Simpson, her Action is Miming, and her Object is a Microphone. Marge Simpson miming with a microphone. Grandpa Bill Asks :If you could create a completely absurd, unforgettable memory scene for a number in your life, what would it look like? Now that you've seen my PAO examples, how would you construct it using a person, an action, and an object? What's one thing you wish you could remember more easily, and how would mastering a memory palace, with a system like the Major PAO, change your life? Think about how these vivid scenes could help you with names, dates, facts, or even your shopping list! What's the strangest image you could imagine that would help you remember something forever? Share your weirdest ideas with me!#MagneticMemoryMethod,#MemoryPalace,#BrainTraining,#GrandpaBill,#BHSalesKennel KelpHolisticHealingHourPodcast,#HolisticHealing,#AnthonyMetivier,#MindIsMagnetic,#PAOSystem,#MajorSystem,#MemoryTechniques,#LearningHowToLearn,#CognitiveEnhancement,#MemoryMastery,#MnemonicDevices,

Katryn Wright, a behavioral science expert, joins this week's episode of the Allyship in Action Podcast to share some fascinating insights. She reminds us that changing the world isn't about grand gestures, but those tiny, actionable tweaks in our everyday moments. Here are the key themes we explored: Behavioral Science as a Practical Tool: Moving beyond abstract concepts to understand why people behave the way they do and how to create tangible change in organizational settings. Specificity Over Ambiguity: Ditching the "woolly and fluffy" notions of culture for concrete, measurable behaviors in everyday processes like hiring, performance reviews, and team meetings. The Power of "Just-in-Time" Interventions: Delivering the right message, from the right messenger, to the right people, at the right moment, to maximize impact and mitigate bias. Data-Driven Decision Making: Using data to pinpoint specific areas for improvement and track the effectiveness of interventions, rather than relying on generalized assumptions. The Critical Role of Middle Managers: Recognizing the significant influence of middle managers in shaping employee experiences and the need to equip them with inclusive mindsets. Actionable Allyship Takeaway: Identify one specific process or moment within your organization where you suspect inclusivity could be improved. Then, break down the behaviors involved and design a "just-in-time" intervention – a quick, targeted nudge – to encourage more inclusive actions. Remember, it's about boringly specificity and practical steps, not grand gestures. Insightful Quotes: "Culture is the result of the behaviors that people around US display all the time." "If we can get the right message, the right messenger to the right people at the right time, we can have these really outsized effects." "Really figure out what's the problem that you're trying to solve for, and and to be that sounds like an obvious thing to say, but to be as behaviourally specific about that as possible." "These little nudges, though, add up. People notice like, oh, wow, like that promotion. Like, decision felt different." Find Katryn Wright at http://www.morethannow.co.uk/ and on Linkedin. There's all sorts of burgeoning movements that indicate a resurgence of Hitlerian values that were prominent in fascistic Nazi Germany. What can leaders learn from bees about creating lasting change in organizations? Siobhan McHale tells Kevin that bees recognize when a hive is overcrowded and the need for a new home. They notice what is emerging and act, which many organizations fail to do. Kevin and Siobhan discuss how leaders can harness the power of group intelligence to foster agile, resilient organizations. She introduces the "Lens Model," a four-part, non-linear framework that includes Look Beyond: Identify and understand hidden patterns that drive organizational behavior. Experiment: Test small changes to discover effective solutions within the system. Nudge: Use subtle shifts to encourage change without creating resistance. Strengthen: Reinforce emerging changes to ensure they become embedded in the organization's culture. She also talks about GQ, or group intelligence, as a necessary complement to IQ and EQ in today's complex world.
