In this episode, I sit down with the brilliant Hannah Wallace — TEDx speaker, writer, disability advocate and host of the Finding Grace podcast — for a deeply human conversation about meeting life's hardest moments with honesty, hope and courage. Hannah's story is extraordinary. Diagnosed with Ehlers–Danlos and now living with Parkinson's, she has had to rebuild her life again and again. And yet what shines through in her is not just resilience, but a profound sense of grace, humour and grounded strength. We talk about: • What it means to live in a body that doesn't follow the rules • How to keep hold of identity when life forces you to change • The role of spirituality, self-trust and community in healing • Grief, acceptance and finding meaning through uncertainty • How to navigate the medical system when you feel unheard • Why slowing down can be its own kind of power Hannah has become known for her ability to tell the truth about suffering while holding onto hope — a rare combination that makes this episode so moving, uplifting and real. If you've ever faced a diagnosis, a life change, or a season where everything felt hard, this conversation is for you. Listen, subscribe and leave a review if this episode speaks to you. It helps more people find the show and helps us keep these important conversations going. (But really, they saw a bear and everything!) As they fill in Elizabeth on their adventures, everybody gets a chance to talk about what we've all been watching lately, and there's an actual theme: shows you can enjoy even if you don't know the story behind it. The Crown works even if you didn't keep up with the royal family; Kaos works even if you don't know Greek mythology; the new Time Bandits works even if you don't know historic events; Better Call Saul works even if you didn't watch Breaking Bad; and Star Trek Lower Decks works even if you were never a Trekkie. But all these shows work even better if you DO know some stuff behind it, which is why making a monument to Miles O'Brien is freaking hilarious. Spoilers for everything, especially Kaos: Elizabeth figures it's better to spend a season wondering WHEN something bad is going to happen, than spend the season wondering IF something bad is going to happen. When SE Portland resident Hannah Wallace went out with members of her neighborhood association in December of 2020 and asked people living on the streets what they needed most, the two things they heard most were: showers and laundry facilities. Wallace started the Sunnyside Shower project in response. The project began at Sunnyside Methodist Church with Wallace and a handful of volunteer offering showers twice a week. It now has dozens of volunteers and people can come 3 days a week to get a shower and other resources when available, like free toiletries, laundry cards and help connecting with other services, like the Oregon Health Plan and drug treatment. Since it began, a Multnomah Village’s volunteer group Southwest Outreach began their own version at Riversgate Church. And in February, a new Shower Project opened at the 13 Salmon shelter at the First Unitarian Church. Kelly Clendenon began volunteering several years ago, helped launch the project with some guidance from Wallace and others, and is now the project’s coordinator. He says as a person who lived on the streets for many years himself, his current work is especially meaningful. Clendenon and Wallace join us to tell us more about what it takes to run these projects and what difference one shower can make for someone who would otherwise have no access.

In Decembers Solo episode of finding grace I wrap up the year. I give my thanks to you the listener for appreciating these solo episodes, and why I love to do them. I focus this episode on integration and releasing things and why it's important. Integration looks different for everyone. Why we shouldn't rush this and there's no right or wrong way. The importance of figuring out your own rhythm. Understanding your personal cycles. Leaning to trust where you are at, sometimes it requires deep integration others times its much lighter. Integration lays strong foundations for things going forward. Why strong foundations are important. Why integration must feel good in your body and nervous system. The reasons why I feel this is such an important step to creating your life going forward. I share all of this and more. I love to hear your thoughts on this. What's your relationship to integration? In Novembers solo episode I share all about about the recent talk I did in MBS Birmingham. In this episode: I share all about my talk I did about using your voice to activate your power. I discuss going back to your early communication as a child and what using your voice was like as that sets the tone, and is a good foundation to go on and a story we need to rewrite. Why we need to look at what using our voice means to each of us. I share that using our voice isn't just about being loud it's knowing how to modulate it and regulate with it. How we want that to feel and how does using our voice feel. What's the current story we have about using our voice, what do we need to release around this and rewrite. What does that new story look and feel like. On a deeper level what does our current story feel like in our nervous systems and why we need to rewire/recode the new one into our nervous system and why this is important. I share the importance of knowing we won't always get it right with our voice and its learning to feel safe with this. I invite you to look at the ways you use your voice and how you don't and how you want this to change. I discuss its more complex due to history, gender privilege, ethnicity and class systems how this can travel down family lines in terms of using the voice. This is something we need to heal and work with and recognise. I talk about connecting your voice to your heart and why this is important. I share how using our voice is an ever evolving process. I share all this and more. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and your relationship with your voice. Do reach out and share with me. Join me this week as I chat with Hannah Wallace who shares vulnerably about her deeply personal journey of navigating life's cycles of death and rebirth since facing major illness as a teenager. With wisdom gained from years of persevering through darkness, she helps us understand the importance of accepting where we're at during transitions, releasing resistance, and learning to feel safe. Hannah emphasizes the opportunity rebirth provides to question beliefs and choose what nourishes our wellbeing over external expectations. Her profound insights remind us that by embracing all of who we are with compassion, and making space for joy amidst challenges, we can emerge stronger having integrated both our light and darkness. In August's solo episode I share how good it feels to be back doing this after a months break. In this episode: I share where I am at and what I learnt having to surrender not doing Julys solo episode and why it felt good. The importance of listening to our bodies, before they reach their limits. Remembering its an inside job even if everything looks good on the outside. Yes it's great to be inspired by things but remember its about alignment. Just because someone else is doing it, it has to be whats right for you. What embodiment means and why this is the key. We can still feel bad even if things are looking great, feeling good and the connection to yourself is the key. The essence of it all is the journey back to yourself and whats on your heart. The importance of regular check ins with yourself. How does it feel in your nervous system, this will always let you know. Never run so far from yourself you forget who you are. The importance of having grace with yourself. What are you chasing if you are always looking for the next best thing. Let your energy led always. Stop chasing perfection, embody perfectly imperfect. I share all this musings and more. Do share your thoughts on this episode, I'd love to hear from you. In Junes solo episode of finding grace I share: I share where I'm at moving through the Solstice. I invite you to check in with yourself at this half way point of the year wherever you are. Stop thinking you need answers or solutions immediately, and to look at all the little things moving forward. I talk about worth and looking at your relationship with worth, don't tie your end goals to our worth. I discuss a saying I've shared in a future blog post,”this or something better” and why its helpful for expansion. How I'm continue to shifting out of survival mode with my body, and deepening my worth with my body. The joy of opening up to the possibility of better. When we release resistance and all the layers to how we think we should be be what happens. Why it's so important to honour your timeline. In May's solo episode I share my thoughts and musing on the word softness. In this episode: I share why we resist the word softness or to soften, as it feels so alien to us. Why softening doesn't mean we are weak. We believe being softer will block us from success and getting things done. Realising we've been programmed from a young age this isn't a good thing. This episode is your invitation to soften. Why we need to look at our story with this word and understand what we feel about it. The importance of changing our narrative with this and redefining our relationship with this word to begin to lean into it. Creating a new paradigm with the idea of softening and how that can look in our lives. Realising your nervous system won't feel safe with this idea and word because its often equated to weakness. So working with your nervous system to change this so it starts to feel good. Starting to meet your hard edges and to soften and to do this gently remembering its a process. Why its starting small and realising it's breaking down all the areas of your life you can lean in and soften will get you feel good about it and seeing the benefits of it. Realising we can soften and still be successful and expansive. Why finding your way is important here and recognising we are ever changing and expansive and that's ok. Seeing softness as a beautiful thing and how it can create space in your life and allow you to refuel and refill your cup. I share all of this and more. I would love to hear from you what your relationship is with the word and how it looks in your life, share with me here. In Aprils solo episode of finding grace I share: All about clearing your energy to be in your power and in a sovereign place. Who you truly are beneath of the layers we've collected moving through life. What this means, and how we can become the truest clearest version of ourselves. What this looks like and feels like. Its natural since child hood we've picked up many layers and its figuring our what's really us and what's in alignment with us now. Why we have to face how much of what we feel and act out isn't even us it's what we've picked up along the way. The importance of taking your time to unravel everything, one by one. Why being grounded is vital. Why trusting your inner compass is key here. Understanding this is a process and takes times. Being neutral and unattached as we do this. Why it happens that things we thought we'd healed comes up but in a new way to look at it, you're not doing anything wrong. Removing labels such as right or wrong and becoming more neutral allows us to let go more easier, this goes with how easily we process things let go of time limits. Understand it's anchoring it in our bodies, nervous systems and energy bodies and it feeling safe here. Realising how liberating it is when we become our truer version and how limitless and expansive this is. The importance of being kind to ourselves on this journey. I share all of this and more. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this and if you do this and our aware of this. Or maybe you are ready to do this and this resonates hearing this. Keep a Little Secret by Dorothy Garlock Part 3http://bit.ly/3DYp0BDCharlotte Tucker was raised in small-town Minnesota, where the only real company was the people who came to her Aunt Louise's boarding house. Several years later, Charlotte is a young woman thirsty to get out of her hometown and see the world. She jumps at the opportunity to take a room on John Grant's ranch in Sawyer, Oklahoma, to begin a new career. She soon befriends Owen and Hannah Wallace, a brother and sister who have come from Colorado following the death of their mother. Abandoned at an early age by a father they never knew, they are set on revenge against the man who left them-a man they believe is John Grant. As the summer heats up and a brutal storm wreaks havoc on the town, a secret is revealed that threatens to change Charlotte's life-and her new friends-forever.http://bit.ly/3DYp0BDhttps://bookcastmedia.com/
In march's solo episode of finding grace I share : Why spring is the perfect time to think about what you want to bring to life. Where I am at and what I'm feeling. Why we have to start at the foundations and strip things back and do a life audit. The importance of not trying to do everything at once, and why this ends feeling overwhelming and often nothing happens. Why checking if you're aligned to what you want to bring to life is so important. The power of micro habits and the small things that are effective. Looking at all the relationships in our lives and bringing it back to ourselves and filling our cup first. Why filling are cup allows us to function better. The importance of recognising we all function differently so figuring out what's right for us. Why looking at our nervous system is vital in all of this. Looking at what your nervous system is telling you and working from this place. Why sometimes, when you've worked on the foundations it's actually something different and better that you want to bring to life. I share all this and more, do share your thoughts with me. Are you looking forward to spring? What do you want to bring to life? How has your March been ? In this episode of finding grace it's a different type of episode, a birthday special where I am being interviewed by my gorgeous friend Amy Rushworth. Have you ever used a crystal dildo? These are dildos made out of specific crystals, usually jade, rose quartz, and obsidian, used to blend crystal energy healing with sexual pleasure. Personally, I was introduced to crystal dildos while going through my journey of healing from sexual trauma. They helped me unearth repressed traumatic emotions, strengthen my relationship with, and acceptance of, my body, and dearmour before and during sex. In this episode, my friend Hannah Wallace and I discuss best practices for using crystal dildos for pleasure and for healing sexual trauma. Can't Host is a gay men's sex and relationships podcast aiming to challenge toxic gay stereotypes, and explore the complex dynamics of gay relationships, with the aim of creating opportunities for healing and growth. In Augusts solo episode, it's a different episode than the one I had planned: I share why this is and what happened. Why I'm currently having to surrender and trust in a whole new way. Why I'm having to give myself grace. How I'm having to let people help me and allow that. The importance of not bypassing your feelings in a tough situation. It's ok to not be ok with something going wrong. Dealing with the unexpected. The importance of being kind and patience with yourself. Why being good to your nervous system is vital. Feeling into the idea of safety in your body, when it feels like the rug has been pulled from under your feet. In Julys solo episode of finding grace, I do a mental health check and reminder and share my thoughts on disability pride month and why it's important. In this episode: I share the importance of checking with our mental health. I share why even doing the smallest things for ourselves can really make a difference. Why we need to do this to avoid burnout and bypassing. I discuss why disability pride is important. Why it's beyond a ramp. Why the conversation needs to go beyond disability communities. How it really makes a difference to include people or see how you can help. It's not about people complaining, it's a reality thats happening. Why as a disabled person its exhausting the process of just trying to live your life and making things happen. What people can do to help, even if you doesn't directly affect you. How over the years there's been very little change. Education is needed so people can deal with things more effectively, and why people need to feel heard rather than feeling like a hassle. I share this and more in this vital and important conversation. Do reach out to me to continue this important conversation and more importantly please share this far and wide it needs to reach beyond disability communities. In June solo episode I share my musings on the Solstice and the art of celebration. Please also note in this episode my neighbours pipes above have an air lock and it decided to show up while I was recording, I've left it there as a message for showing up perfectly imperfect and being able to carry on and to celebrate that. I share: About the Summer solstice and what I've been feeling, I also wish those in the Southern Hemisphere a happy winter Solstice. I invite you to think about celebration and what this means to you. I share what I am celebrating. I discuss why we need to celebrate where we are at, and that it's not just about celebrating the big things in our life. Why the small things we celebrate are as powerful as the big things. If we feel blocked around celebrating it could from patterns when we were younger about conditional celebrating, and why we need to lock at them and understand. Learning to feel safe in your body and nervous system to celebrate as often this can block us. Why celebrating others is important too. Why creating a celebration practise can bring about positive shifts in your life. If you have children involve them in a daily celebration practise. How regular celebration can shift your vibration and re wire your brain. I share all this and more. I'd love to hear about your relationship with celebration and what you're celebrating right now, do reach out and share with me.
