This performance used with permission from Theron Brown. If you're a frequent lister to this program we mention often that Theron Brown is the hardest working performer in show business. From his work as Artistic Director with the I Promise School to his role overseeing the annual Rubber City Jazz and Blues Festival, Theron is intimately involved with making Northeast Ohio a magnet for musical talent. For this performance, Theron brings the Fender Rhodes Mk II to life with his trio. While the Hammond B3 gets the accolades for being the center of Soul Jazz, The Fender Rhodes might not get the credit it deserves for the warmth, authenticity and versatility it delivered to audiences. At least, the ones built before 1983. If you like what you hear today and are looking for more jazz records focused around the Fender Rhodes, All About Jazz has an excellent article on this topic, written by Chris May. For now, though, featuring Zaire Darden on Drums, Jordan McBride on Bass and Theron Brown on Piano and Fender Rhodes and from a sold out April 26th, 2024 performance, it's the Theron Brown Trio – Live at the Bop Stop. There is No Greater Love - Jones Who Shot John? - Wilson Feel Like Making Love - McDaniels Swingin' at the Haven - Marsalis For more information on the program, click on the Live at the Bop Stop Radio Show link at thebopstop.org.
When a family member gets sick, it can mean major changes to our lives. For Chris May, it meant he needed a role that could be done entirely from home. He quit his job, and created his own enterprise doing management consulting. One of the contracts he had after that was to create a report on the standards of north London hospitals. Instead of just a report, Chris created an entire database, and his work snowballed from there. The health technology entrepreneur talks to Evan Davis about how he eventually created the database for the entire NHS. Message Us!July 29, 2024 Sermon by Chris MayEver wondered what it means to be a friend of Jesus? In this journey through John 15, Chris May contrasts the depth and intimacy Jesus offers with the often superficial nature of modern friendships. By examining the terms "servant" and "slave," we illuminate the balance between reverence and closeness in our relationship with Him. Jesus' friendship is marked by candor and an unwavering commitment, much like the trusted "friends of the king" in ancient courts. Support the show

Message Us!Pastor Chris May joins us with a heart-stirring personal anecdote that sets the stage for a deep exploration of love's intertwining with sacrifice and true commitment. His narrative, rich with emotional resonance, seamlessly weaves into the Biblical account of Jesus at Bethany, where a woman's act of anointing with an alabaster flask emerges as a poignant symbol of love's profound irrationality. As Chris draws from his college years' sacrifices for love to illuminate the scriptural stories, we're invited to ponder the cross as the ultimate emblem of love, a seemingly mad act that is, in truth, an extraordinary expression of the divine. In a world that often prizes productivity and practicality over presence, Pastor Chris challenges us to reevaluate our priorities. He contrasts Mary's lavish act of anointing Jesus with Judas's criticism, urging a reflection on the condition of our hearts and our tendency to value busy work over being present with those we love. Recalling King Edward VIII's historic abdication for the sake of love, Pastor Chris calls us to consider what it means to truly prioritize love in our lives. As we close in prayer, we're inspired to cultivate a 'crazy love' for Jesus, one that shines authentically and beckons others toward the transformative power of faith.Support the show

Join us as we journey through a profound exploration of joy in our faith, with insights from our esteemed guest, Pastor Chris May from Real Life Community Church. This episode is not about the perpetually happy; it's about discovering a profound contentment in our relationship with the Lord. We take a look at the Christmas season, a time that often brings both joy and sorrow, to underscore that true joy is not about the absence of pain but rooted in a deep knowledge and trust in God.We then traverse through the remarkable journey of Mary, a young, unwed mother to Jesus. Despite the daunting path that lay before her, Mary's faith in the omnipotence and mercy of God remained unyielding. This absolute trust in God's power was her anchor, allowing her to maintain her joy even in the face of uncertainty. Let's not merely marvel at Mary's fortitude; instead, let's learn from her steadfast faith and unwavering joy. Finally, we discuss how to embrace lasting joy in Christ, whatever our circumstances. Drawing upon key Bible verses, we explore how to fix our eyes on Jesus and discover joy in Him, no matter how fierce the storm around us. Stop us if you've heard this one - A life insurance agent was meeting with his client about the policy coverage for her husband. The agent asks if she knew the present value of her husband's policy and she didn't understand what he meant. To explain, the agent says “What would you get if your husband dies?” The wife thinks for a moment and then replies, “Probably a poodle, I guess.” (Bah dum tiss) Why are we starting with a hokey opening joke about insurance straight out of the Shecky Green era Borscht Belt school of comedy? Because the writing staff here doesn't know bupkis about how to combine football and insurance into a working simile or metaphor to honor this week's special guest star Chris May, the former USA football great and current Insurance Aficionado. In this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast, our boys Sid and Keith sit down and do a deep dive into the Art of Setting Expectations (something our boys clearly didn't do with the writing staff if they thought we knew anything about football … other than Dick Butkus. And we really only know that because it's hilarious.) Chris will take our boys through an ideal world with clearly set expectations that have basis in real-world on-the-ground data and facts and help them strategize ways to take those expectations from concept to concrete reality. So, huddle up and hear the plays being called during this week's Overlap Podcast - we can assure you that it'll be a definite slam dunk … er, wrong sports ball … hole in … nope, not that one either … grand slam … nope, that's Denny's … … … … … insert sports ball reference of choice. (Yeah, that works, right? We're going with that.) For more visit https://overlaplife.com/
