This week, for the very first time, I have two guests on, Ishtar and Valeria. Valeria is a change advocate, healer, Akashic Records teacher, community builder, motivational speaker and conscious-living ambassador. Ishtar Bäcklund Dakhil, is an illustrator and visual artist from Sweden. She spends her time travelling the world, working with both self driven artistic projects within local communities as well as working  commercially with clients.     After not fitting in most of her life and dealing with self-destructive behaviours, Valeria started the healing journey that would change her life forever. In 2010 she co-founded Longboard Girls Crew, the now biggest community in the action sports industry that empowers girls and women in more than 60 countries. She's now devoted to her non-profit Longboard Women United, helping hundreds of girls and women in extremely unprivileged areas around the world. Ishtar's creative explorations of the picture book format has led her to new & innovative ways of inviting readers into the reading experience, through interaction via VR techniques. The interplay between analog & digital design is a form that she recurrently works with. Ishtar's interest in personal narratives & themes of cultural belonging has also led her to further investigate innovative educational methods to share tools within visual storytelling. Through her process based workshops format titled “The Place that Hurts & Glitters” she explores and facilitates creative ways to recreate and work around personal narratives through visual communication.    Valeria exposes the system and advocates for change in her many talks and conferences, including two TEDx Talks. It's about shucking off the old oppressive narratives that were created by the patriarchy—stories wherein women are described as being the weaker sex, sinful, hysterical, and born to suffer in silence. From Eve, to the present moment, the feminine has either been misrepresented, maligned or erased from history. I was not raised as a Christian, however, through my own inner pilgrimage, I've discovered that I carried these negative stories deep inside myself. Unidentified lies are like an invisible burden, they effect the way we feel about ourselves, and the way we choose to move through the world. As I began restoring Mary Magdalene's identity to the wise and sovereign being that I believe she was, I simultaneously felt a deep shift within myself. I've became more peaceful, and am finally able to rest in who I truly am. But most unexpected: I feel a deeply affirming connection with Her. It has been a profoundly healing experience. This week's podcast guest, Dr Joanna Kujawa, is the author of The Other Goddess: Mary Magdalene and the Goddesses of Eros and Secret Knowledge, scholar, and spiritual detective. She received her BA and MA from the Pontifical Institute for Mediaeval Studies at the University of Toronto, Canada, and her PhD from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. As an active academic for over 20 years, she uses her scholarly training to investigate topics other academics often pass over, such as: Can spirituality and sexuality be experienced as one? Who was the real Mary Magdalene? Is there a lineage of Goddesses now resurfacing in our collective experience of spirituality?
