Here's the Left of Lansing "Friday Short" for October 18, 2024! Dear Leader Trump doubled-down on trashing the City of Detroit this week, saying if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the election, the entire country will look like Detroit. And then there's former New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie attacking our beloved Detroit Lions, especially Head Coach Dan Campbell, for beating-up on his poor, little Dallas Cowboys in front of nation last week. With all of this Detroit-bashing, it's no wonder why a new poll shows 50% of Michiganders saying they are less likely to vote for Trump. I'm not sure of the Republican strategy to attack Detroit when Michigan is a key battleground state in the election, but I say... keep doing it, Trump and the rest of MAGA! Please, subscribe to the podcast, download each episode, and give it a good review if you can! leftoflansing@gmail.com Left of Lansing is now on YouTube as well! leftoflansing.com

Head Coach Dan Campbell made a handful of VERY questionable decisions in the Lions Sunday night NFC Championship game vs the 49ers..
Patience versus progress it's a variable debate when a sports franchise is in the middle of a rebuild. For the Detroit Lions their top brass truly believes this time will be the charm and under the leadership of Head Coach Dan Campbell and General Manager Brad Holmes this consistently downtrodden franchise will finally get it right. After winning two consecutive games and the first on the road under Campbell last Sunday against the Chicago Bears, when the team came back to win after trailing by 14 in the 4th quarter, on the road. The first time they've done so since 1992. The Lions will now attempt to go for the trifecta when they had to the Big Apple on Sunday to face the New York Giants. Now is as good a time as ever to pose the question are the Lions truly making progress in year 2 under Campbell and Holmes? Meanwhile, with the team having 5 picks in the top 65 picks in this year's draft they really have a golden opportunity, to accelerate their reconstruction project to ensure they are consistent visitors and mainstays in the win column for years to come. Someone who has his finger on the pulse of everything relating to the Detroit Lions is 97.1 The Ticket's Jake Riepma. He joined me this week to provide his thoughts on the current state of the Lions and how they can continue their positive progression forward. Twitter: @jake_riepma

USC is one of the most improved teams in College Football going into the 2022 season. After hiring Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma he got straight to work bringing in his starting Quarterback from last year Caleb Williams and bringing in other star players from the transfer portal such as Jordan Addison and Travis Dye and more. With stacked offense and talent all throughout the roster, how good will USC Football be in 2022? Could the Trojans make a run at the PAC-12 Championship and even make the College Football Playoffs? After losing to the Rams in the Super Bowl last season the Cincinnati Bengals are looking to return this season but hoping for a different outcome maybe coming out on the winning end. However, with the AFC North getting tougher, could Joe Burrow and the Bengals be in for a Super Bowl hangover? With New Head Coach Brian Kelly, what are the expectations for LSU Football in 2022? With the Quarterback battle between Jayden Daniels, Myles Brennan, and Garrett Nussmeier remaining undecided after spring camp who will be starting Week 1 for LSU? This team does have a lot of talent at wide receiver, cornerback, and the defensive line but the biggest question mark is the offensive line. In a crowded SEC West, how good will LSU Football be this College Football season? The Detroit Lions went 3-13-1 in their first season under Head Coach Dan Campbell. This NFL season the Lions are looking to improve after drafting DE Aidan Hutchinson and WR Jameson Williams in the first round while also signing a couple of under-the-radar Free Agents such as DJ Chark and DeShon Elliot. In recent interviews from Ben Johnson the Offensive Coordinator of the Detroit Lions, he envisions a “career year” for quarterback Jared Goff. Finally, Head Coach Dan Campbell remains non-committal as to who will be the offensive play-caller leaving a major decision to make.
