A political leader and his wife start to believe something is wrong with their son and that he may be the son of the devil. We're starting off The Kids Aren't Alright month with The Omen. This is a movie where there's definitely a kid and he's nowhere near alright. Gregory Peck stars in this film and he's one of a few strong performances in a movie that has bizarre characters, crazy events, and creepy deaths. You won't find a movie with a kid much creepier than the one in this film. The tone of the film is ominous and it certainly holds up. Watch the movie and catch our review. Returning guest Don Campbell joins us as we meet Charles Lee Ray in episode 156, tackling Tom Holland's 1988 classic Child's Play as the second entry in the "It's Voodoo Baby" triple feature. We break down all eight of Chucky's major reveals, from the voodoo soul transfer that opens the film to the battery scene confrontation between Karen Barclay and the Good Guy doll, to the fiery finale in the apartment. Along the way we explore Don Mancini's original "Blood Buddy" script, the Cabbage Patch doll craze that inspired the film, the raised soundstage set and practical puppet work that brought Chucky to life, and why Catherine Hicks' performance makes Child's Play as much a story about a struggling single mother as it is a slasher. The episode closes with our favorite reveals ranking, real monsters, and a round of "would you survive Chucky?" Next up: Wes Craven's The Serpent and the Rainbow closes out the triple feature. A couple head to a cabin vacation home following a wedding and while experiencing relationship issues, they're surprised by masked intruders who make their night full of panic. The Strangers is the movie of discussion for the finale of Home Invasion month. When this movie came out, there was a lot of hype surrounding how real it felt as a home invasion movie, primarily due to the lack of motive from the intruders. We're uncertain the movie holds up from a terror perspective, but it's certainly entertaining, suspenseful, and a unique entry into home invasion horror movies. With solid performances from Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman, and a fun cameo from Glenn Howerton, The Strangers is a fun ride that will make you want to pause going on any remote cabin trips. In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, I'm joined by Steve Barton! One of the true pioneers of modern online horror media and co-founder of Dread Central. We dive deep into Steve's early beginnings as a horror fan, his days posting on the legendary Fangoria message boards, and the completely random encounter with Tony Timpone that ultimately changed the course of his life forever. From there, Steve takes us through the creation of Dread Central and the challenges, sacrifices, and triumphs that came with building one of the most important horror outlets in internet history during a time when online horror journalism was still the wild west.Throughout the conversation, Steve reflects on the relationships he built with legendary figures including George A. Romero and Sid Haig, sharing incredible stories from decades spent inside the horror industry and convention scene. We also discuss Steve's pivotal involvement in the rise of Terrifier and the Art the Clown phenomenon, his role in helping bring attention to the franchise, and the difficult fallout that eventually led to his firing from the production. It's an honest and deeply personal discussion about passion, loyalty, success, disappointment, and the realities of working within the entertainment industry. The episode also explores Steve's raw and emotional autobiography, which serves as a brutally honest reflection on following a dream, navigating personal struggles, and dedicating your life to horror culture. We wrap things up by discussing his current projects, consulting work, writing, and what the future holds next. This is a fascinating conversation with somebody who helped shape modern horror fandom in the age of the internet and a must-listen for horror fans, filmmakers, collectors, and anyone who grew up living on horror message boards and websites during the early online era.For more of my content - CLICK HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast-horror-movie-podcast--4295531/support.

A family who has profited off of selling security systems becomes the target of a violent, masked group during a 12-hour period called "The Purge" where all crime is legal.Home Invasion month kicks into high gear this week as we discuss The Purge. Ethan Hawke and Lena Heady star in this crazy film that introduces a dystopian society that has implemented an annual 12-hour period where all crime is legal. The thought process is that all aggression is aired out during these dangerous 12 hours, and many believe it heals the country. Although the concept is interesting, there are a lot of plot holes within the idea and the smaller story surrounding the family is also lacking. However, the movie is fun and entertaining all the way through. A loving husband and father stays behind while his family goes on vacation and he's visited by two young women at night, who are stranded in the rain. After showing them kindness and letting them in, the night turns deadly.Knock Knock is next for Home Invasion month and while we don't think this movie is very good, we fully acknowledge how fun it is. Keanu Reeves, Lorenza Izzo, and Ana de Armas star in this cat and mouse movie directed by Eli Roth. This film takes a loving family man's loyalty to his wife and kids to the brink as two young women drastically attempt to seduce and blackmail him. While this movie struggles with purpose and any sense of reality, it's a fun and wild movie to watch at least to see Reeves scream for most of the runtime. Three young burglars break into the home of a blind war vet in an attempt to steal money, but soon realize he's more than capable of defending himself.Don't Breathe is kicking off Home Invasion month and it's a movie that we saw in theaters upon release and are super happy to be revisiting it. After rewatching the movie, we still love how tense the movie becomes and how it makes you question who's worse as things start to really take a turn. A secretary, on the lam for taking money from her employer, holes up at a California motel owned by a man and his overprotective mother.Psycho is often referred to as a horror movie masterpiece. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, this psychological horror stars Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, who owns a motel along with his mother. Without too much screen time and based on dialogue and reactions from Norman, mother is a controlling influence in his life. Her influence makes Norman the sinister presence he is thoughout the movie. Hitchcock tells an interesting story overlaying element of a heist with horror and conveys a timeless twist that highlights identity and the effects of trauma. In this episode, I sit down with director Brandon Christensen to talk about his latest film Bodycam, a unique found-footage horror told entirely through the perspective of police bodycams. We get into the idea behind it, the challenges of working within that format, and what makes it such an effective way to tell a story. From there, the conversation opens up into a deeper look at Brandon's love for film as an art form - from the movies and games that shaped him, to the drive to create and tell stories through cinema. We also get into something a lot of horror fans feel but don't always talk about, how movies feel different now. The nostalgia of the 80s and 90s, the experience of discovering films back then, and the slow loss (and recent resurgence) of physical media and collecting as part of the culture.Of course, we dive into horror itself and why the genre continues to connect so strongly with audiences, and how it's finally getting the recognition it deserves, both at the box office and on the awards stage. This is a laid-back, honest conversation about horror, nostalgia, and what keeps us coming back to movies in the first place.Check out more of my content here - HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast-horror-movie-podcast--4295531/support.
After being shelved for several years, the meta reboot to Faces of Death (the controversial horror snuff film from 1978) has finally received a limited theatrical release. We happened to catch this one and quite enjoyed it. Hang out with us as we chat about the film in this spoiler-filled conversation. Also, as always, we've picked out the most loathsome characters from the film, so join us at the end of the episode in voting for which one was the most deserving to die. Teenagers experience unsetting tactics from the counselors at an LGBTQ+ conversion camp as murderer hunts the grounds.They/Them is a very different type of horror movie as it blends elements of a teenage drama along with being a slasher. Kevin Bacon stars in this film as the head of a conversion camp, who has a welcoming smile, but a sinister way of handling the camp practices. The movie features some fun moments, but doesn't deliver on dialogue, acting, or even a solid mystery. While at times it felt nothing like a horror movie, kills eventually pick up, however, it is highly predictable. A plastic surgeon applies his theory of synthetic skin that can withstand any damage on a mysterious woman, who unveils a more sinister plot.Antonio Banderas stars in an absolutely crazy movie in every single way as we discuss The Skin I Live In. The story starts in a wild fashion as a well-known plastic surgeon is keeping a mysterious woman at his house, who he's experimenting on, but it actually gets even more insane when character backstory is revealed. The tone of the movie shifts and the storylines converge in such a dark, sick way. We saw this movie several years ago and it was such a pleasure to revisit a film that doesn't get talked about enough. This week we are revisiting the surprise prequel in the Final Destination franchise in its fifth entry. One of the better ones, in our opinion, as it builds upon the lore of the previous films. So join us as we discuss all the clues and continuity errors of this being a period piece. We'll also compare and contrast to some of our favorite moments and characters from the first four movies. Also, as always, we've picked out the most loathsome characters from the film, so join us at the end of the episode in voting for which one was the most deserving to die. Send us Fan MailThe bats are ready to emerge from their winter hibernation in the United States, and we are back with an Adorable Animals All-Out Attack celebration! We are blessed by the presence of Lou Diamond Phillips in Bats (1999), Columbia Pictures was hoping that Nightwing (1979) would be their next summer blockbuster, and then from there, Bela Lugosi is so done with imbecilic, bombastic ignoramuses in The Devil Bat (1940)!

We dive into the industrial hellscape of David Lynch's debut feature, Eraserhead (1977), for the second film in our MINDF*CKS triple feature. In this episode: How Lynch's black-and-white nightmare was made over six years on a shoestring budget at the American Film Institute Why the film hits different with three distinct life perspectives: a father, someone who wants kids, and someone who doesn't The film's core anxieties: unwanted parenthood, the suffocating weight of domestic life, and the fear of losing yourself to a role you didn't choose Lynch's well-documented philosophy of letting audiences bring their own feelings to his films rather than seeking logical interpretation How his practice of transcendental meditation fed the film's dreamlike, subconscious imagery Monster reveals covered include: The Man in the Planet The little chickens at the dinner table The iconic mutant baby Henry's mailbox sperm-worm The Lady in the Radiator Henry's head-in-the-pencil-factory The giant alien baby Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTubeFor bonus content and commentaries, check out our PatreonFollow the show on Instagram, TikTok, and FacebookWant to support the show and save 20% on Fangoria?
