Learn how to use comedy for positive and social change Let me give you a little sneak peek into this serious but also insightful conversation I had with Dan Ilic, an ‘Investigative Humourist' whose comedic prowess extends across various mediums, from TV and film to radio and stage. Dan has left an indelible mark on the Australian comedy landscape, showcasing his versatility and commitment to using humour as a powerful tool for activism. You are in for an engaging exploration of Australia's political climate, the impact of movements like ‘Vote Yes,' and the power of collaboration in advocating for change. Dan, known for his sharp wit and insightful commentary, masterfully blends comedy with serious discussions on climate change, media influence, and the intersection of AI with ancient wisdom. From his early days on TV shows like The Ronnie Johns Half Hour and Hungry Beast to sold-out performances at the Sydney Opera House and navigating the complexities of satire and journalism on a global scale, Dan's story unfolds with humour, insight, and a fearless commitment to confronting societal issues. One of the people I’ve known longest and admire most in the Australian entertainment industry and that’s Dan Ilic. Dan’s had success on Australian television thanks to writing and starring in such shows as The Ronny Johns Half Hour, Hungry Beast and Can of Worms, and then taking on the grown-up jobs of executive producing and showrunning ABC shows Tonightly and At Home Alone Together, which could really do with another series right now. He’s also had stints producing satirical comedy for Al Jazeera and Fusion in the US. But because careers in entertainment don’t progress in a linear fashion, whenever there’s been a down time, Dan has always gone back to generating his own work whether it be live comedy, documentary, or satirical ads and his output is always slick and funny and creates a splash.Perhaps his most enduring work is his award winning comedy podcast A Rational Fear - with its overarching focus on Climate Change. In this episode, we talk about that plus we discuss Dan proposing to his fiancée, that time his firing from a major news organisation became major news and his extraordinary parents, how they met, and how his father’s interest in comedy and social justice gave Dan a framework for his own career.https://arationalfear.substack.com/ SocialsTwitter - Adam ZwarFacebook - Adam Zwar 10 Questions with Adam Zwar is produced in part by Nearly Media.More about Out of the Question: https://www.nearly.com.au/out-of-the-question-with-adam-zwar/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. These dingdongs are too obsessed with the newest Noodles video to care that they're getting picked off one-by-one, and go about their swinging, survivalist training, and in the case of the sister, I guess...dating King Vidiot from Joysticks? Long time coming but the pod is back. And back to cycling basics it is. Why live in Europe? How does the team structure work? Can you eat whatever you want because you ride everyday? Plus coffee rides, style checks, luft, nature stops and doping. Just some of the topics we cover as my brother, Kirk, gets behind the mic, asking Michael Hepburn and myself all those simple but niggling questions any non-cyclist might wonder about life as a professional cyclist. Kirk is a TV producer in Australia, who has produced shows like You Can’t Ask That and Demolition Man, and was previously also on screen on the show The Hungry Beast. Michael Hepburn has been my team mate on Orica-Scott for the last 6 years, where it has been a pleasure to grow with him in the early part of his potentially long career. Both Heppy and I spend a lot of time together in both Girona, Andorra and racing on the road, so it was interesting to be able to answer a few questions from someone who is outside the cycling bubble.
