Tonight we're chatting with SK Dale, director of the new film SUBSERVIENCE. Dale teams up again with Megan Fox, who starred in Dale's thriller TIL DEATH. Here, Fox plays an artificial person hired to help around the house while a man's wife is sick in the hospital. And naturally that goes great. SUBSERVIENCE was directed by S.K. Dale (Till Death) and written by Will Honley (Bloodline) and April Maguire (#Zombie). It stars Megan Fox (Transformers), Michele Morrone (365 Days), and Madeline Zima ("Californication"). In SUBSERVIENCE, Megan Fox stars as Alice, a lifelike artificially intelligent android, who has the ability to take care of any family and home. Looking for help with the housework, a struggling father (Michele Morrone) purchases Alice after his wife becomes sick. Alice suddenly becomes self-aware and wants everything her new family has to offer, starting with the affection of her owner – and she'll kill to get it. XYZ Films will release SUBSERVIENCE on Digital and on Demand on September 13th, 2024.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/castle-of-horror-podcast--4268760/support.

We have devoted plenty of time on our humble little podcast singing the praises of The Blair Witch Project over the years. But what do we have to say now that the original cast has made some pretty heavy demands? We also talk about a video game adaptation taking place in El Paso and why the opinions of video game fans may be the most reliable. All You Need is Death is a great title for a comedy horror. Have some fun musical numbers and an ending involving a bad looking George Harrison lookalike and you got yourself a winner. If the plot is a serious one involving Irish folklore and odd secret organizations, it is one of the worst titles ever.A bad title does not take away from a good film, however. Especially when that film owes a big debt to David Lynch's creepiest tendencies. That being said, Lynch is definitely not for everyone. And so goes, All You Need is Death, a movie that does so much right but also cannot seem to help but get in its own way.Bruceploitation Month continues with Fists of Bruce Lee. This episode we tried to do something different and review a movie with a plot. Sure, it is all just filler to take up space between the awesome fight scenes, but there is an actual story being told. After covering last week's travesty, it is nice to know that there are some movies that were trying to do more than just cash in on Lee's name. Almost as soon as I finished watching Zarrar Kahn's film IN FLAMES, I emailed Todd Brown, head of international acquisitions at XYZ Films, asking: how did you find this gem of a film? In this episode, Todd tells me.The discussion is wide-ranging, all-encompassing, and fun. When we finished taping, I felt like I knew so many things about how independent film works that I never knew before. Todd answers every question about film production and distribution with authority, knowledge, and clarity. In this episode, Todd and I talk about:how he got started in filmmaking;how film festivals can be a proving ground of sorts to showcase your ability as a film executive;the success going from old horror film blogs to filmmaking because they know how "stories are supposed to work" and an "understanding of market forces";is he genre specific or does he have a wide range of tastes in film?;what questions is he asking when he reads a script?;his feelings about the state of independent film;the brilliance of the film TALK TO ME;his thoughts on film school;how XYZ takes on new directors, and the difference between the United States and pretty much everywhere else on that;DON'T MORTGAGE YOUR HOME TO FUND YOUR FILM -- really, it needs to be in caps, Todd says;his view on the international markets, calling Gen Z the most global generation ever -- "the subtitle barrier do not exist for them";does he want people to know it is an "XYZ film" or genre-agnostic?the beauty of IN FLAMES, which premiered at Cannes as the debut title for New Visions, XYZ's new label for microbudget horror films by emerging directors;how the firm nurtures new directors;what's next for this visionary film and production company.

There's something about a singular focus that you just can't help but appreciate...On this very special episode we dive head first into a brand new indie thriller on VOD (and select theatres?) today in the US. It's time for 'Trader'.A manipulative sociopath (Murray) armed with a dangerously ambitious spirit, her wits, and an affinity for snorting wasabi voyages into the high-intensity game of stock market trading and wages war against the financial world. When she stumbles upon news of a monumental pharmaceutical trade, she risks everything to complete her ultimate success story no matter the cost. We do historically hate using hyperbole but this is a movie that is just truly hard to look away from as 'Trader' has a knack for gluing you to the edge of your seat and never letting go. Considering how unabashedly ballsy and brash this is it feels appropriate for this to be a female led thriller by its star Kimberly Sue-Murray.We had the chance to sit down with her and talk about working with writer/director Corey Stanton, the need for her to branch out and take a risk and how she crafted this incredibly unique character.Trader is on US VOD platforms now.
This week we welcome producer David Lawson Jr. on the show to talk about producing indie features, his process as a producer and what he looks for in a project. After that we play another round of THE GAME, enjoy! Check out Casting Calls America, it's casting made easy at www.castingcallsamerica.com! It's Christmas at a college somewhere in North America, and the girls of a campus sorority house are welcoming the season with boys and libations. For Clare, Jess, Phyl, Barb and their house mother, Mrs. Mac, it's an especially sweet time, as the house welcomes kids from the neighborhood for a party and the spirit of giving is in the air. But soon, giving turns to screaming as one of them finds herself confronted by a mysterious stranger who has seemingly entered the house via an upstairs window. Soon, the case of one missing girl draws in the residents of the house, the local police, and the town, and an oddly hard-to-locate killer initiates a game of hide-and-seek, sororicide, and some truly awful telephone etiquette. It's 2010 and I've been attending the annual TED conference for seven years. I want all my friends and family to experience TED too, but it's by invitation only. I learn that the head of TED, Chris Anderson, has announced that TEDsters can apply to create independently organized TED events locally. I'm thinking, “What an incredible opportunity, but can we pull it off?” I worry about our ideas not being big enough to share. Not to mention, I've produced events before but not at this magnitude. After talking about it endlessly, we decide we'll go for it. It turns out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. Those events become known as TEDx events (the x stands for independently organized TED event). Ever since, we've had the opportunity to produce many TEDx events, birthing ideas and stories into the world that affect change, one person at a time. Speaking of producing, my special guest today Angela Gulner is a film producer, actress, and writer, who also brings stories to life that can touch individuals at the exact moment they need it most. In this episode, she and I look at storytelling through different angles and answer questions such as: How does energy play a part in the writing process? As an actor, what is it like to become a character? And must your protagonist be likable, or is there another way to get an audience to go on a journey with a character? Along the way, you'll hear Angela discuss playing a villainess, collaborating with others to create work during hard times, taking on the producer role out of necessity, and upleveling your storytelling game with accountability. What you will learn in this episode: Why conflict or struggle is such an important storytelling component What truly makes a story a story in a visual medium How striving for story perfection can rob your audience Who is Angela? Angela Gulner got her start with an MFA in Acting from Harvard University. She then began her career as a writer and producer with the indie dark comedy Binge, which went viral with over 2 million on Youtube and got a development deal with MGM Studios. Along with her writing partner, she developed and pitched TV projects for heavy hitters in the industry such as MGM Studios, Calvary Media, and Debbie Liebling. Recently, Angela wrote for upcoming features like Some Other Woman (starring Amanda Crew and Tom Felton) and Kaet Might Die for Balcony 9 Productions. In addition, she produced and starred in the feature film The Summoned which was released by XYZ Films on VOD. Currently, she's in post-production as the producer of the short film Gay-ish (written by Michelle Askew, the youngest female writer to ever make the Blacklist, who also makes her directorial debut with the film). Angela also has two feature films in development as writer and director for Wicked Myth Films. How does a film geek turn his love for movies into a media empire? Ask Todd Brown from Twitch Film. I met Todd Brown over ten years ago when I was promoting my short film "BROKEN." He did a killer review of the film and we became fast friends. His movie review site Twitch Film.com was just starting out then but it has grown into a leading voice in global cinema. Twitch Film focuses on more obscure, independent and international films; something that was missing from the movie review site blogosphere.Twitch Film's focus on those kind of films made it stand out and over the years has grown into a mega movie website. My advice, always be nice to people you never know when you paths will cross again.Todd leveraged his knowledge and access to great international and independent films and joined forces with XYZ Films.XYZ Films is an integrated content company whose mission is to empower visionary storytellers from every corner of the planet. We also get into his earlier focus on music with artists like Dave Bazan and Damien Jurado. It's a conversation full of movies, music, television, and the art we love. It’s a three-fer: biopic drama, documentary and the-making-of all rolled into one. Three cars were most likely to adorn an adolescent boy’s room in the early 1980s. The first was the brutish Porsche Turbo Carrera with its outlandish fender flairs and whale tail. The second was the Lamborghini Countach which, in its original and purest form, was a single, hard-chined arc from nose to tail. The third was the DeLorean. It might have had a model name but nobody knew what it was. With its unique stainless steel body and gull-wing doors, the car was unmistakable. It was the Potemkin-esque ‘concept car’ you glimpsed at the auto show, but made real and available soon on a lot near you. For a time, the public couldn’t get enough of it... * * * Listen to the rest by clicking the play button, above. Céline Tran continues to enjoy a remarkably diverse career. She has gone from adult film star to action hero following the release of her first martial arts feature film, Jailbreak - Cambodia's first martial arts film. It was a hit when it was released locally in January 2017, and has now been picked up by The Raid distributors XYZ Films for international release. The film showcases Céline's awesome martial arts skills, which can also be seen in a number of great short films including 2014's Burst - choreographed by France's Cinemaction Stunts, the fight team behind Luc Besson’s Lucy (2014), Spectre (2015) and Jason Bourne (2016) - and 2016’s Bladed Minds, which displays Céline's skills with the Katana sword. We discuss her past as a professional adult film star under the name, Katsuni. She appeared in around 350 films in a career spanning 13 years. We discuss her former career as well as her many other interests. As well as being an actor, she is also a writer of comic books, a DJ, a contortionist, and a presenter and producer of self-defence videos, where she explores the Indonesian discipline of Pencak Silat. She also holds a black belt in karate. Check out her YouTube channel, Ma Vie de Ninja, and visit her website, maviedeninja.com.

Spring udkom på dansk blu-ray fra Another World Entertainment d. 19. november. Hør anmeldelse af filmen lige her, og læs mere om blu-rayen på bloggen: http://www.filmblastpodcast.dk/2015/12/spring-2014.html
Are you a filmmaker but not sure how to start your career? Draft Zero was invited to moderate a panel as part of the 2015 St Kilda Film Festival. In our very first live episode, we are joined by TV Writer Mithila Gupta (Winners and Losers), Director Corrie Chen (Reg Makes Contact) and Producer/Executive Simon de Bruyn (Acquisitions Executive, XYZ Films and Producer) to talk about 'breaking in', how it has changed, the different approaches, opportunities and challenges. They share their tips on networking effectively, setting up an online presence, persevering through doubt and getting relevant experience. It's pretty out-of-format for us, but it's an informative and fun discussion. We continue the discussion into BACKMATTER where we focus on emerging writers approaching directors to get stuff made.
