0:00:00 Introduction Richard Saunders 00:06:32 Manifesting Have you heard of manifesting? Or as it's been more recently labelled the law of attraction? Manifesting is the relatively new label added to a very old practice. Each generation likes to think that they've found the key to unlocking all of your desires. When in actuality it's the same false hope that has been passed down for many generations. Recently on the Skeptic Zone you would've heard reporter Kat McLeod talk about the lucky girl syndrome. By whatever name, it is the personification of wishful thinking. 00:22:54 Woo Watch! Happy New Year! As 2025 comes to a close, the team looks back on the stories from the True Sunlight Podcast that defined the year, and the systems that made them possible. In this special year-end episode, Mandy provides an update on Cory Fleming's ‘Early Release' and LUNASHARK's digital librarian Kate Thomas takes listeners on a journey through twelve audio clips, one from each month, highlighting the investigations, interviews, and turning points that shaped LUNASHARK's work in 2025. From Pastor JP Miller's lawsuit warfare and eventual federal indictment, to the corruption exposed in Scott Spivey's killing, to Karl Stoller's silencing in the Bowen Turner case—this episode traces the patterns of corruption, the protection of powerful men, and the systemic failures that continue to plague America's justice systems. But we also celebrate the wins: Lee Gilley's indictment in Texas, the charging of former Deputy Billy Squires, the federal cyberstalking charges brought against JP Miller, and federal Child Sexual Abuse Material charges for former SC state rep RJ May and former long-time magistrate judge James Gosnell. Gosnell has pleaded not guilty. This isn't just a recap—it's a reminder of why sunlight matters, why this work must continue, and why your support makes accountability possible. As we look toward 2026, one truth remains clear: the work is far from over, but together, we're making a difference…. And That Is A Big Deal!
As 2025 draws to a close, the LUNASHARK team takes a moment to look back at the year's most powerful conversations from Cup of Justice. Join digital librarian Kate Thomas as she revisits twelve unforgettable clips, one from each month, featuring the voices that moved us, challenged us, and reminded us why this work matters. From detectives connecting the dots to families walking dark roads seeking answers, from Hollywood productions to legal battles weaponized against journalists... From breakthroughs in cases once dismissed as hoaxes to masterclasses in investigative journalism, from emotional pleas for justice to the surreal moment an actor's transformation into Alex Murdaugh triggered visceral reactions.... These twelve clips tell the story of a year spent chasing justice, celebrating the persistence of families seeking justice, and embracing the power of independent journalism. These moments capture the heart of Cup of Justice's mission: exposing the truth, amplifying victims' voices, and demanding accountability from those in power. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Links to Episodes: COJ 114, COJ 117, COJ 122, COJ 125, COJ 129, COJ 135, COJ 137, COJ 141, COJ 146, COJ 150, COJ 154, COJ 157 Stay Tuned, Stay Pesky and Stay in the Sunlight...☀️ Premium Members also get access to all new bonus episodes, video episodes, case files, live trial coverage and exclusive live experiences with our hosts. We're taking a break from Cup of Justice to bring you a special Premium episode of Soundbites, typically reserved for LUNASHARK Premium Members. Today's episode is dedicated to the tragic and perplexing case of Stephen Smith. This episode, from journalist Beth Braden, librarian Kate Thomas, and producer Sam Berlin, aims to review "what we knew and when we knew it" about Stephen's unsolved homicide. Stephen Smith, a bright 19-year-old nursing student with aspirations of becoming a doctor, was found dead in the middle of Sandy Run Road ten years ago on July 8, 2015. Despite a seven-inch gash on his forehead and blunt force trauma to his head, initial investigators were stumped, and while the coroner believed it was a shooting homicide, a pathologist controversially ruled it a hit-and-run. This episode delves into the details of the investigation while also providing an intimate look into who Stephen Smith truly was: a kind, funny, generous, and studious young man with a clear plan to become "Dr. Stephen Smith". His legacy also lives on through the Stephen Smith Scholarship fund, established to help need-based nursing students. A $50,000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest. If you know something or know someone who knows something, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please send tips to SLED at tips@sled.sc.gov or call 803-737-9000. We invite you to show your support by joining the "Walking With Stephen" memorial event in Hampton, South Carolina, on July 12, 2025. A few weeks ago, Kate Thomas and Whitney enjoyed a friendly dialogue over the time spent on beautifying supplier proposals and how important we feel this is for our businesses. While discussing this topic, we realized there's something more to this, which is likely what's causing the roadblock on anyone switching sides or switching teams on this topic. On today's episode of Masters in Travel, Whitney, Kate Thomas, and Heather Christopher take a step back and dig deeper into what happens before we receive a less than beautiful supplier proposal. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mastersintravel/message

Notes: You get to hear Kate Thomas and I in deep conversation -- complete with creaky chair, and me messing up as Kate teaches me her beautiful song, Go Dark. Do you ever have the experience of being solid on a part, as long as the leader is singing it, but then when they leave to teach another part, you lose it? You'll hear me doing just that! :) We talk about building a bank of nourishing words for hard times -- and Kate shares a story about something that shook her certainty and ease with life, and how that made her vow not to judge people. She observes how giving time and a safe place to make mistakes makes it possible for most people to learn to sing, like almost all people learn to drive eventually. And then there's the handpan, and learning Arabic, and... I guess you'll just need to listen in! Songwriter Info: Kate Thomas is a singer, song leader, songwriter and instrumentalist (guitar, piano and handpan) and has been leading singing groups in Sheffield for over 20 years. She has produced two songbooks, 'Honey and Salt' (from which 'Be Yourself' is taken) and 'Scattered Seeds'. Heather Christopher is the owner of Heather Christopher Travel Consulting; co-owner of Travel Pro Theory; and co-founder of Wanderlust Wedding Co. Through Travel Pro Theory's eponymous podcast, Christopher (alongside co-host Kate Thomas of FIT operator North & Leisure) dives deep into important business topics such as “graduating” clients, charging service fees and more. It's clear that Christopher is endlessly passionate about the travel industry — particularly as it pertains to her fellow travel advisors. In this episode of Humans of Travel, Christopher reveals how losing her father at a young age influenced her decision to enter the industry as an advisor. She also discusses how the advisor industry has evolved throughout her 14-year tenure thus far — particularly compared to when she was the youngest in the room — and what she believes are its major pain points (hint: the lack of a barrier to entry and marginal education). Notes: "Be Yourself" was written for 'Body of Sound', a women's group that Kate Thomas leads, for a residential at Laurieston Hall in Scotland which has a lovely open fire. Can you imagine joining with friends around a fire and singing this to each other? And sometimes, I swear, I find myself singing it to just myself (or my many selves???), welcoming all of them around the fire -- the part of me that's anxious, the part that's grouchy, the part that is confident, the part that's flamboyant -- shall I go on? I definitely have enough for a campfire gathering of my own -- but I'll grant you that it's even better if you're gathering with others!
