We are taking a break from our season on Kingdom Innovation bc it's election week in the US, and we think this word from our teammate David Legge is one that is worth hearing, no matter what country you are listening from. As our house churches were gathering here in Little Rock this week, David Legge was in town with us, and we asked him to share a message with us, that he titled, “An Other Worldly Kingdom.”  David had given a similar message in Ireland recently at the New Wine Conference, but it was interesting how much of the perspective he gave to the crowd there applies to us in the United States as well, as other countries, when it comes to the ways we can accidentally start finding our hope in a political Kingdom, a Kingdom that is less than the spiritual Kingdom God has invited us into.

As we've opened the book of Daniel, our prayer is that God will open the book of Daniel to us.  Written long ago to God's people in exile in Babylon, we get a glimpse into God's working in and through Daniel, Hananiah, Misheal, and Azariah.  Already, we've seen God at work in chapter 1.  Now, in chapter 2 we see God at work once again as the King has a dream about kings and kingdoms and asks his servants to not only interpret the dream for him, but 1st, to tell him what his dream was.  Naturally, the servants respond by saying, "Impossible."

Beauty resets our compass.  It reminds us of who we are and what we are made for. ~ Andrew Peterson   Summary Our children will grow no matter what, but how they grow and what they learn is heavily dependent on their environment.  Parents can shape the world of their children to include beauty, freedom of artistic expression, and space to wonder.  In this podcast, we talk to Andrew Peterson, singer, songwriter, author, father and now grandfather.  Over the last 25 years, Andrew has used his creative talents in the world of music and fantasy books for kids. He has done this out of the firm belief in the power of art to commuicate eternal truths and draw people into relationship with God.  Our family has been blessed by his work over the past 25 years and we hope that all our families will be too!  Key Takeaways Parents need to shape the world to be beautiful for their children.  Beauty evangelizes even to the very young child. Art, in all its expressions, is essential to life.  Beauty resets the compass.  It reminds us of who we are and what we are made for. It awakens within us the desire for the Kingdom - God's Kingdom here on earth and in heaven.   Delight in your children.  They need to know that they are wonderfully made and they learn that by how we respond to them.  Sin is when I forget who I am.  Our kids need to be solid in their identity as a child of God and so do we!  We need to learn to desire things in the right order.  Sin happens when we live a life of disorder.  As parents we can help order the lives of our children in the right way.  Couple Discussion Questions How does our family experience art (music, literature, movies) in our home?  What do these things communicate to our children?  Do we delight in our children?  How can we do this more?  What are we doing in our home to help our children “desire things in the right order?”  How can we shape the environment in our home to do this?     Resources God in the Garden Wingfeather Series (books) Wingfearther series (series on Angel studios) Andrew-peterson.com Music list on spotify

Delivered by Father Peter Tukan, SDB from Salesian Don Bosco Gerak in Labuan Bajo, Diocese of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. Jeremiah 15: 10.16-21; Rs psalm 59: 2-3.4-5a.10-11.17-18; Matius 13: 44-46 OUR TREASURE IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD   Our meditation today has the theme: Our Treasure is the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God became a subject of discussion and was taught as widely as possible only when Jesus Christ taught the people of His time. Before Jesus came to the world, the inhabitants of the world and especially God's people from the chosen nation had kingdoms that took care of the politics and social affairs of this world. They dealt with power and the supression of the rights of human life to submit to human power in this world.   In total contrast to all of that, the Kingdom of God brought by the Lord Jesus Christ does not deal with the powers of this world. The main task of the Kingdom of God is to bring all believers into the Kingdom of Heaven, where they are all citizens of the kingdom with the glorious Christ as king. When he was in front of the political authorities, especially when he was about to face the death penalty, the Lord Jesus said to Pilate who was questioning him, that His Kingdom is not of this world, but of heaven.   Jesus' confession truly confirms what He always taught the public at that time, that He wanted to renew the custom of life and the wrong way of believing according to God's will. He really wanted to show that His presence and all His actions and teachings were the real manifestation of the Kingdom of God. Many of His listeners did not understand, so they rejected Him. Only a few understood and accepted Him, and they became members of the Early Church.   The Lord Jesus Christ and all His actions to lead and serve us are the Kingdom of God itself. A grandfather at a local mission station understood this very well, so he wanted to create an atmosphere at home that truly presents God as the center of life in the house. In that house there are only grandpa and grandma. Children and grandchildren live in their own houses. Grandmother just watched what her husband was doing.   Grandpa turned to face the wall all family photos, wedding photos, graduation photos of children and grandchildren, as well as pictures stuck on the wall. The back of the photos and pictures, which were plain blank pages, were pasted with the faces of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Angels and the saints. Seeing all that, the grandma asked him: “What do you mean by doing all that? Why are the photos and pictures, our images, are hidden?”   Grandpa smiled and replied: “We should be hidden and even disappear, so that what is visible should be our Lord Jesus Christ,” said Grandpa, repeating the words of John the Baptist about Jesus Christ. Grandpa actually wanted to present the real Kingdom of God. The Kingdom God is our true treasure. Let the Kingdom of God enlighten, guide and govern our lives.   Let us pray. In the name of the Father ... O Almighty God, let Your Kingdom come and make us His faithful servants in carrying out all Your will. Our Father who art in heaven... In the name of the Father...

Get the fill in the blank bulletins my.harmonychurch.cc/bulletins. ---------------- OPENING ILLUSTRATION: Have you ever heard the saying, “you're gonna have to hang in there like a hair in a biscuit…” Lol, I had a buddy say that the other day and it cracked me up. What he meant was sometimes in life you have to hang on hard to make it through. We've all ben there right? When life feels like it's thrown a wrench at you and you weren't able to dodge… WE: -The moment when the divorce settled in and the night felt darker than it's ever felt sitting alone in your living room -The way it takes everything you've got to make it through a day to look normal to everyone else since returning from deployment -Or that time when every day it was literally “which bill do we not pay right now…” We've all had those moments where you are holding on by the skin of your teeth.. US: I believe we are in a moment in history where for Christians, you following Jesus is not going to be easy… ILLUSTRATION: I was invited recently by a missionary to Pakistan to give a devotion to some people who had converted from Islam to Christianity there. I wasn't able to do it, but before I knew that, I asked him what he wanted me to say to them - if anything. Here's what he told me. He said, “Can you encourage them, many of them have lost family, jobs, etc. to follow Christ. It has cost them everything.” Then he said something that has been challenging me ever since, “But also encourage them to be bold in their faith and to not be afraid, the world they live in it's dangerous to be a Christian and they need to know not to be afraid…” Reminded me of something Jesus said, Matthew 10:28 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Today in the Story of God we are at a place where those who are left have to hold one with everything they've got - like a hair in a biscuit… I think for us as Christians there is a lot to learn from the guy we are going to look at today… SCRIPTURE: The Kingdom of Israel has been split, the Northern tribes have been swept off into Assyria and one will ever hear from those people again… Now the Southern Kingdom is being attacked by the Babylonians - They will take the entire nation into exile in Babylon. Much of the rest of the bible - the prophets Jeremiah, Lamentations, Isaiah, and minor prophets - Malachi, etc. either take place during this time frame or right after. This moment in history will change the Jewish people forever. They will move from being a religious group centered around worship at their temple to a group that is dedicated to the Torah (the Old Testament). b Rabbis and Synagogues will become a thing. Judaism as we know it finds its root in the Babylonian exile. b The people finally are met with the dilemma, do we obey the covenant with God, or disappear from history? b They seek to obey the covenant But even this will become corrupt with rule-following to abandon the God of the covenant… This moment in history - terrible moment… Imagine it. One night you are sleeping in your beds, you've been comforting your children all night long telling them it will be alright, the city walls of Jerusalem are strong. They finally went to sleep but you have stayed up all night listening to the fighting men whispering in the streets as the Babylonian fires grow outside the walls. The next day attack occurs. and by the end of the next day you and your children are being forcibly removed from your house, marching without water, men with ropes around their necks and arms tied to horses. your voice gone from screaming and your tears all cried out. You do everything you can to protect your children as they watch horrors executed around them. It's too easy to read about these things and events and not realize these are real people who are ripped out of their homes and sent to live in lands where they do not speak the language and where they are in captivity long enough for an entire generation to disappear. That brings us to the collision with this moment in history, one of the people who was captured and taken as a prisoner was Daniel… You may have heard of “Daniel and the Lion's Den” it's that Daniel and that took place while he was a captive. When Daniel is captured he is a young aristocrat - likely in the house of Judah. The Babylonians had an effective means of assimilating people. They take the young up-and-coming leaders and indoctrinate them into the society and culture, letting them eat from the King's table and teaching them the ways of the Babylonians. Daniel is one of these young men. But Daniel is different - he's gonna hang on like a hair in a biscuit, listen to Daniel Daniel 1:8 8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Daniel was someone who understood there was more going on in his world than just being successful in the situation he was in… As a matter of fact, this is who Daniel is over and over again The reason you know about him being thrown into a lion's den is because he is unwilling to stop praying to God, no matter the consequences. b Daniel was living for a different Kingdom than the one he lived in. As a matter of fact, Daniel also over and over again spoke bravely about this Kingdom… Listen to some interpretations of dreams he gives to Kings: To Nebechudnezzer who has had a dream about massive statue that represented different kingdoms… Daniel says… Daniel 2:44-45 44 “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. 45 This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces. Or in a vision Daniel had that disturbed him greatly, he saw 4 beasts that represented different kingdoms of the earth and at the end of his vision he saw this: Daniel 7:13-14 13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man,[a] coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. b Daniel isn't waiting for a Jewish Kingdom, he's waiting for God's Kingdom to come! b The reason Daniel could stand firm in a corrupt generation is because He feared God more than anything people could do to Him. b I believe we are in a time when being a Christian will take engaging God with grit. b Holding on to love with strength. b ILLUSTRATION: I remember being in High school when it hit me. I have to choose who gets my greater allegiance, the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of America? They are not the same thing, no matter what you've been told. For me, my political persuasion is always held against Jesus and His Kingdom. The word of God is my standard. If you don't know it yet, Jesus came to fulfill Daniel's prophecies. Jesus came to bring a Kingdom that would be subversive and would change the world from the inside out. b Through you and me… Luke 17:20b-21 20b “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,' or ‘There it is,' because the kingdom of God is in your midst.” CLOSING: My poor wife has a curse on her life. Literally, has the worse luck. Every restaurant we are ever in, she gets the fork with food on it or hair in her food. She can tell you what it means to hang on like a hair in a biscuit. That sucker aint coming out. What about you? Have you decided the kind of person you want to be? Do you want to be a Daniel who hangs on to Jesus no matter what this world throws at you, choosing your allegiance to the Kingdom God has put in you. Or, do you still want to be the kind of person who eats the food this world puts in front of you, who gives in over and over again to the little concessions that will ultimately assimilate you into a life that's far from the heart of God? Make the choice today what kind of person you want to be!

Are we truly seeking God's Kingdom first, or are we trying to make God fit into our own desires and expectations? Join us online and be sure to sign up for Encounter on Wednesday nights launching September 13th! ? IT'S EASY TO GIVE at Harmony, text any amount to (859) 459-0316 to get started (or give online @ my.harmonychurch.cc/give ). OPENING ILLUSTRATION: All right, let's get down to brass tacks - who is the most annoying customer/client you've ever dealt with? You know, the one who is CONSTANTLY changing the specs of their design, or is constantly complaining about the level of service. The customer who is never happy or never satisfied. I was in a store the other day and there was this woman and her husband who had purchased a product, used the product several times, and then wanted to return it and exchange it for a different one. The type of product it was was the kind of thing that once you use it, it's used. It was the most uncomfortable 15 minutes of my life listening to this couple harass this young worker trying to get her to return the item. I literally almost stepped in and was like, “Can I help y'all?” What do you do when “the customer is always right” isn't right? Now I know it depends on your industry and what your business is. Most of you probably know that taking a loss in your business is worth keeping most customers. But there are industries and arenas of life where this idea of “the customer is always right” actually sets a person up for failure. Imagine a teacher operating under those standards… ILLUSTRATION: When I was in bible college, I had this afternoon class with a handful of students. When the professor showed up I said, “This college pays you, right?” He said, “Yes” I said, “and they get their funds to pay you from the tuition we pay, right?” He said, “Yes,” I said, “and whoever pays your salary is your boss, so let us do you a favor and give you the day off - you've earned it…” He laughed and said, “No”. Ha, because the customer is not always right. One of the core dangers that is created inside of Americans from “the customer is always right” and other phrases we live by is that we all too easily begin to see our worlds from an egocentric point of view. b We can too easily view ourselves as the center of the universe. b And that is eternally dangerous… I want to walk us into a story of Encountering God that so elegantly cuts through the malarkey and helps us see ourselves in the proper context… Check it out… SET UP: What we are about to enter into is from the time of the pharaohs. The Israelites have followed Moses out into the desert and now they are about to move into the promised land. This is the in-between them taking those first few steps into Canaan and the life they had lived wandering in the desert for 40 years. Joshua has just finished taking all the young men and circumcising them. They are on the cusp of a massive change in their history. Jericho is their next stop - and it's a serious challenge. Joshua has not faced anything like this before. He is going to have to figure out how to take this city. This is the encounter we get in this moment… Joshua 5:13-15 13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” ILLUSTRATION: When I was in college, some buddies and I got lost and ended up on an army base - there was this huge line of cars we were in, and there were military guys with German shepherds. We tried to flip around and go the other direction and this military guy with a machine gun started yelling at us to get back in line… Ha, talk about being scared. Joshua, is out, probably scoping out Jericho and he sees a military man with a sword drawn. This is the sign of someone ready for battle. Joshua isn't some wimpy college kid he asks this guy if he's for Joshua and the Israelites or if he's for his enemies. The implications are, “If you're for me, then I won't have to hurt you, but if you are for my enemies, we're gonna fight” b Joshua never considered that there could be a third option… Check it out… 14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” This soldier is not for Joshua, he's not for Joshua's enemies. He's for Yahweh, God. Man, we need to set up a tent and camp here for a minute. Listen church, I'm convinced that what more of us need is an encounter with God that reminds us we are supposed to be on His team, He's not on ours. So much of our music in modern worship is about how much God is for you and loves you - it's not untrue, but it misses something when it doesn't paint the whole picture. Your job is to be after God. Listen to this parable Jesus told about Luke 17:7-10 (The Message Version) “Suppose one of you has a servant who comes in from plowing the field or tending the sheep. Would you take his coat, set the table, and say, ‘Sit down and eat'? Wouldn't you be more likely to say, ‘Prepare dinner; change your clothes and wait table for me until I've finished my coffee; then go to the kitchen and have your supper'? Does the servant get special thanks for doing what's expected of him? It's the same with you. When you've done everything expected of you, be matter-of-fact and say, ‘The work is done. What we were told to do, we did.'” Can I ask you a question? Does that rub you the wrong way? b The idea that at the end of the day, you and I are just servants of the King… Joshua gets this… Look at how Joshua responds to this angel… Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord[a] have for his servant?” 15 The commander of the Lord's army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so. The moment Joshua realizes he's having an encounter with God, he falls on his face. Do you understand that when you came to Jesus, you came to a King? You came to the God of the universe. He was the one who thought up the color blue and the idea of water being able to take on 3 forms. He is the one who can overthrow nations and raise up servants to be kings. He is the God of the universe. ILLUSTRATION: Years ago I worked in a church where the worship time was less than stellar. The music was so bad I'd literally bear through it week after week just trying to get through it. I'd sit there in my head thinking how terrible it was. How I wished it was better and I wished it was more like I wanted it. One morning I was sitting there waiting to get to preach and thinking how much I hated it when the Holy Spirit whispered to me, “It's not for you…” Ugh… I needed to be slapped in the face like that… Let me ask you a question… What's the aim of your life? Do you want to just be comfortable? Do you want to make more money? Do you just want your relationships to be chaos-free? Do you want things your way? Jesus said “Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness” b You can't fake seeking first God's Kingdom - God can't be tricked. Either Jesus is King or you are. Which is it? CLOSING ILLUSTRATION: One of my favorite jobs growing up that I had was tossing pizzas at Dominos. I worked on making the pizzas and learned how to toss the dough. I love it still to this day, but can I tell you something? You can tell someone how to toss dough, but it's so much easier to show them. We want you to come to Encounter on Wednesday nights because we want you to Encounter God through community - I think lots of us want Jesus to be King in our lives, but we don't really know what that means or how that looks. Listen, Christianity is an on-the-job training kind of thing. You learn it by doing it with other people who are a little further along than you. You learn to toss that dough by watching others and learning from them. Grabbing ahold of some of the passion they have and the way they ask questions. You come as a servant and learn from the King and His other servants…

Getting to Know Jesus “Learning the Rhythms of Jesus” Luke 4:42-44 We get to know Jesus better by watching the priorities and rhythms of his life: Jesus lived in the rhythm of connecting with God and serving people Jesus' priority was love: he loved God and loved people Jesus' connection with God gave him clarity of purpose Jesus' purpose was to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God Jesus lived in the rhythm of “being sent” and “being led” Jesus was sent by the Holy Spirit: He was entrusted with a message Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit: He was empowered for a mission Jesus lived in the rhythm of ministering in public and private Jesus went to synagogues to worship and preach Jesus went to homes to teach and serve Jesus lived in the rhythm of proclaiming and doing the Kingdom God's Kingdom comes when His will is done. God's Kingdom comes when we live a CHRISTlike life.

Beloved this is the Good News we proclaim today - In God's Kingdom - God sees the vulnerable, the helpless, the harassed - He sees and has acted as He always does in love and compassion not in anger or wrath. This Kingdom is led by a God who sees the vulnerable and His action is to partner with His friends to usher in the restoration and renewal of all that He had in mind when He created mankind. And that beloved is what this Kingdom is all about and it is how He still operates - His miracle is not about exceptional-ism it is Christ in you and that is good news!

As entrepreneurs, we struggle with shame. We make mistakes, face failure and ultimately shame ourselves into believing we shouldn't be struggling. In today's episode, Whitney unravels the story of Rebecca, another female hero of the Bible.    Rebecca's story stuck out to Whitney, prompting Whitney to remind you that just as Rebecca's mistakes did not define her, your mistakes don't define you. As entrepreneurs, wives, and moms, we often try to control the outcome and begin to take matters into our hands, just as Rebecca did. And, if we make a mistake, we bury ourselves in shame. Whitney uses this lesson and applies it specifically to entrepreneurs.    In this episode, Whitney gives listeners these takeaways about meeting God in our mistakes and listening to his insight: They force us to commune with God Mistakes keep us from communicating his glory Shame is never a productive emotion God can use any mistake to move us toward his Kingdom   God does not meet us with our mistakes or define us by them. When we meet him with these mistakes, he turns them into a beautiful masterpiece.    Buy the Ruthless Elimination of Hurry    Join Whitney's Free Facebook Group    Connect with Whitney: Website Follow Whitney on Instagram @whitneykroneberger Interested in one-on-one coaching?  Contact Whitney: wkroneberger@gmail.com

For much of middle class America, 401ks are seen as good stewardship, and wise investing in the stock market as a way of attaining financial goods for oneself and the economy at large. But do these things we take for granted contribute to the overall good of the human person and society?  Jacob Imam, economist and executive director of New Polity, argues that not only are these things not necessary to a healthy economy, but that we should question whether stock ownership has any role to play in Christian life. Beginning with the example of medieval economic relationships, he and Grant discuss the difference between investment and speculation; the relationship between work and ownership; and how investment, properly understood, might dignify the labor of our neighbors rather than simply profiting from the work of others.  How would the way we invest have to change to bring us closer together and build the Kingdom God? Is retirement part of God's plan for the human person? Listen in as Jacob and Grant discuss these and other challenging questions.

Stay awake!!! The Kingdom GOD will come at a time that you do not expect. Stay awake and stay focused, DO NOT let your lamps run out of oil. AMEN Scripture Reference: Matthew 25:1-13 ESV “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps[a] and went to meet the bridegroom.[b] 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.' 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.' 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.' 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/erica-brown24/message
