At 26, Olivia Perez (called Livv by her friends) is motivated as all hell, and it's invigorating. For episode 128, I chat with the serial entrepreneur, co-founder of System of Service, Forbes contributor, and host of the 'Friend of a Friend' podcast about her journey thus far — from her first-ever internship at Teen Vogue to her partnerships with big-name brands like Coach and Tory Burch (plus, all the fun stuff in between). She also shares what it was like to grow up as a serious dancer, how she navigates life today "with blinders on," and the ways she's had to pivot during the pandemic. Olivia's got a no-BS attitude that I'm on board with, and this conversation felt like a breath of fresh air. Kirsty Godso is fitness luminary and entrepreneur who’s redefining the wellness industry, or as she likes to call it, “The Business of Bodies.” A New Yorker by way of New Zealand, Kirsty got her start while teaching a class at her local gym and was recruited by Nike on the spot to start working recording workouts for their app, Nike Training Club. Fast-forward, Kirsty is now a global spokeswoman for the brand and a Nike Master Trainer, often featured as the face of their app for her high intensity workouts and hot sauce burpees. She’s also the founder of her own high intensity collective, Pyrogirls, and her own protein powder company Made Of. In this episode, Kirsty and I talk about growing up in New Zealand and moving to the big bad apple, why she’s challenging gender norms in the gym, and how she’s defined her “why” in fitness and beyond. Produced by Dear Media
This isn’t our first rendezvous with Kirsty, and hopefully not the last. Since our last chat with Kirsty, she has been working through overcoming her own personal burn out. She talks openly about being efficient in burn out mode. In the last year Kirsty has done everything in her power to feel on top of the world again. She covers the testing that she has done and what lifestyle factors she has now been implemented - sorry caffeine, but you were definitely a culprit. We cover internal dialogue, self loathing, what she does for stress relief, best ways to train, habit stacking, use of different modalities for a well-rounded approach to life and training, her very successful protein powder ‘Made Of’, the dating scene in New York and so much more. Oh and if she was any animal she would be a cheetah - fast, sleek, athletic, fiery and bloody decisive. While most people are daydreaming about vacation plans in a few months, Bianca Valle is tackling life day by day (or quarantini by quarantini as she calls it). On this episode of ‘Vibe Check,’ host Jian DeLeon checks in with the certified holistic nutritionist and model to hear about the pandemic from the perspective of someone thriving with the slower lifestyle. Bianca drops specific advice from diet management to how needs differ from person to person, just as it should be with the quarantine life in general. While things are really picking up for Bianca’s nutrition book, her project has also been hit with cancelations. Meanwhile, Bianca’s seeing clients approach her for advice during a time when people are stocking up on everything they can get their hands on. Bianca shares tips on implementing theory into practice, including bringing new foods such as quinoa and black rice into your diet to introduce different nutrients for strengthening your immune system even more (7:04). Cutting down on carbs, protein, and processed foods while loading up on greens is the way to go. Remember: greens, beans, nuts, and seeds. Rather than completely adopting new dietary practices, Bianca suggests that every individual does some personal introspection. From HIIT, Kirsty Godso, and Joe Holder workouts to matching Ricky Thompson’s dance moves, Bianca is all for taking advantage of the at-home solutions offered via IGTV and YouTube. Look on the bright side, embrace the comfort of your own home, and listen to lots of Janet Jackson (11:30). Stay tuned for new episodes of ‘Vibe Check’ dropping next week on Tuesday and Thursday.

I was walking down the street the other day with Nike master trainer Kirsty Godso when we got on the topic of negative self-talk. Fact: Everyone is different, and negative self-talk doesn't discriminate. In today's episode, I sit down with Kirsty to have a super vulnerable, honest conversation about how to shift the voices inside our head from not-the-best to positive. Listening to Kirsty Godso talk will ignite something awesome in you. Appropriate, since the Nike Master Trainer calls herself (and others who are willing to work hard to elevate the energy of everyone around them) a “pyro girl.” In episode 27 we talk about the #hurdlemoments she’s faced building her personal brand, including having to leave behind a major fitness project she created with Les Mills to put her faith in the swoosh. Also, how an injury brought her to tears inside an acupuncturists office, a red flag telling her she needed to temporarily turn down the intensity of her workouts and chill out.
