Nike Master Trainer and Founder of Warrior Retreats Branden Collinsworth and Blu discuss the story of how Warrior Retreats came to be. From Branden's first trip to Peru, to sitting with the medicine for the first time, to receiving permission from the spirit of Peru to bring others down there to heal – Branden shares his dedication to creating reciprocity with the country of Peru through service and the bringing together individuals who are heart-centered.   === Timestamps:   0:00 Intro 6:55 The Story of Warrior Retreats 27:19 Blu's Personal Experience in Peru 34:00 The Service Aspect of Retreats 45:35 Peru Has Her Own Consciousness 52:21 The Full Spectrum of Peru 1:01:18 Branden's Reflection of Blu 1:03:14 The Screening Process for Warrior Retreats 1:12:06 Conclusion   ===   Branden Collinsworth:   In 2002, Branden Collinsworth was broke, homeless, and a high school dropout. Destined for either prison or death, it was at his lowest that he made the powerful decision to change his life and also his heart.   Branden decided to go after his dreams and transcend the streets that enslaved him.    He founded The Jump for Joy Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping kids lead healthier lives. Branden then built Real Results Fitness, an award-winning chain of high-performance gyms throughout Las Vegas.    He went on to become an internationally renowned performance coach, one of the first trainers signed globally to Nike, and even received his Master's in Positive Psychology from UPenn.    After beating the odds and receiving the accolades of success, Branden knew this wasn't his final stop. He set out to travel the world in pursuit of expanding upon his love for learning, human optimization, and global impact.     From 2016-2022, Branden lived in Peru, Bali, Thailand, Hawaii, and India, where he dove deep into the study of yoga, indigenous plant medicine, Osteo-Thai massage, and Muay Thai kickboxing.    In 2018 he was chosen by the Indian government / Ministry of Ayush  as one of the US ambassador of Yoga, spending ten days in Kerala, India, learning about yoga, it's traditions and its origins.   In 2019 Branden collaborated with Nike to launch Nike Yoga - Nike's first yoga performance apparel line. He also co-created the first comprehensive yoga program on the Nike Training Club app, with workouts that serve millions across the world monthly.   Inspired by his travels, Branden became fiercely passionate about humanitarian work and giving back to the places that gave him so much. In 2017 he launched Warrior Retreats: A 16-day physical and spiritual rite of passage for leaders in Peru.    He also stands as the Global Director for The Tropical Pathology and Infectious Disease Association, a humanitarian nonprofit based in Peru that helps minority students get into medical school.   In 2020 Branden became one of the Founding Experts for Mined - the first digital emotional platform that is rooted in amplifying emotional wellbeing and human pathos.    Currently Branden is serving as head of Innovation and Human Performance for Core Power Yoga and is still diligently at work with Nike as one of their Global Trainers and Yoga Teachers.   Branden is committed to creating a global movement for love built upon his own training fundamentals: mindset, movement, meditation, and mastery.   Warrior Retrats - www.warriorretreats.com    Warrior Retreats Video - https://youtu.be/   Ted Talk -  https://youtu.be/kadse8DqMkU   BIO Video - https://youtu.be/fX4FXII9mig   Mine'd - Access to 200+ of my lectures https://brandencollinsworth.doyoumined.com   ===   BLU: https://www.instagram.com/bluofearth/ https://www.bluofearth.com/ https://www.florescence.earth   Sign up for BEQOMING Prosperous 4-week Digital Course: https://secure.beqoming.me/a/ZB6SDd5KB6/496   If you feel inspired, watch the full BEQOMING Blu documentary https://youtu.be/K01sU5L4afw   Follow BEQOMING on Instagram: https://instagram.com/beqoming?igshid=YWJhMjlhZTc=   DONATE TO THE DEJA BLU PODCAST:  https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=VACWQVBHTCQ3QSupport the Deja Blu Podcast: https://www.patreon.com/dejablupodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Before I moved to Chicago in 2011, my concept of fitness was split into two dichotomies: sports, which I had retired from upon graduating high school, and the elliptical at my university's tiny, carpeted gym. That is to say, working out to stay skinny. But my arrival in Chicago gave me what happiness researcher Gretchen Rubin calls the “fresh start effect” - the chance to rebuild my relationship with fitness anew. And unbeknownst to me, I moved to this major metropolis right on as two major fitness trends were becoming mainstream: running and boutique group fitness classes.Running, I reasoned, would be a good way for me to exercise because it was largely free and I lived a mile from the lakefront, which was a novelty to me at the time. And after a couple of years, I moved from downtown to Lincoln Park, right as Nike opened a Nike Training Club studio above their Armitage shop and began offering free - yes, free - classes every single day of the week (real ones, remember?). Quickly, fitness became a landmark in the History of Kristen; it was through running and group fitness that I met many of my best friends, my boyfriend, and Jeana, who had just started a fitness-focused blog as a fun side project that is now both of our full time jobs. And now, it's probably safe to assume that if you were to ask a random Instagram acquaintance what they know about me, they'd mention fitness in some capacity - second only to my dog, Phoebe.Fitness has been such a significant part of my life, and I was really excited when Jeana suggested we do the History of Fitness as our second deep-dive series on the podcast. My own perspective of the fitness industry runs both narrow and deep; I know a ton about the fitness industry's most important verticals as they exist today, but before the mid-90s, I didn't have a great grasp of how fitness, sports, and recreation have evolved over time. To be honest, I wasn't even totally sure why Jane Fonda was so important to fitness until taking on this project. At times, I sort of feel like Anne Hathway in The Devil Wears Prada - the scene where Meryl / Miranda absolutely tears Hathaway's character Andy apart for not understanding the significance of Andy wearing a cerulean sweater. And worse, for not respecting the hundreds of people and the years of fashion history that brought her cerulean sweater to the shelves.I don't want to be Andy, for many reasons. So, I'm taking y'all along with me as I dive into the history of fitness. We're starting at the very beginning - like literally, going all the way back to ancient Greece and Renaissance-era Italy. In this episode, you'll meet Bill Hayes, the author of Sweat: A History of Exercise. His book is part history, part memoir, and it traces the different origins of exercise as they evolve. He flips between analyzing the past and memorializing the future, so you're left with a better context for the cultural and scientific history of exercise and how it's affected our view of exercise today. Bill is a complete delight, and I'm excited to share this interview with y'all. A few highlights: we meet Mercuriale, whose seminal text De arte gymnastica aimed to revive the lost Greek art of exercising. We gush about the joy and satisfaction of swimming, as well as the flow state one can find in boxing. Bill gives a brief context for women in the pre-20th century history of exercise (and we'll get more into women's place in the fitness movement next week), and I learn for the first time ever that Plato wasn't his real name (plus who gave him the nickname Plato and why). The Links:Buy Bill's excellent book Sweat: A History of Exercise on Amazon, Bookshop.org, or wherever you get your booksLearn about his other books on his website, BillHayes.comChat with him on Twitter @billhayesnyc and view his photography on Instagram @billhayesphotographyAn excerpt/adaption of Sweat can be found in this article Bill recently wrote for the New York Times: Sometimes You Have to Hate Exercise Before You Can Love It AgainThe Devil Wears Prada scene mentioned in the intro, just for fun

Information is accelerating faster than ever before, according to organizational psychologist Adam Grant. And the only way to keep up with it, he says, is by learning to rethink our assumptions. On this episode, the best-selling author teaches us how to open our minds. He starts with advice from his childhood diving coach that helped him reframe his fear (of heights!) and understand that work ethic matters more than natural talent (or grace) — which eventually led Grant to an All-American title. Then he digs into the reason we should never agree to disagree, the danger of getting wrapped up in health and wellness cults, and the power of having what he calls a “challenge network.”  Inspired to move? In this episode Justin talks about how lonely, bored and alone he felt for years after deciding that he needed to make significant changes in his life. He shares how he had a strict Christian upbringing and had little confidence growing up. When he moved and was looking to meet new people, he would go out to the casino and the bar. Once he started to grow his social circles and get attention, his confidence grew and he says he exploited this.  His social circle grew quickly, he knew everyone, felt invincible and unstoppable. He would start to wake up from nights where he would get blackout drunk, as often as 4-5 nights a week. There was an event that took place one of these drunken nights that was the catalyst for a change. Justin needed to change his social circles and his habits so that he was able to reach the potential that deep down he knew that he had and had been wasting. He shares how he has turned his life around and how he is on a never ending journey to keep reaching even further potential.Justin Rille is a personal trainer of over 11 years who works out of his own training studio and has been online coaching nutrition and habit/mindset clients for over 15 years. He has also been spending his last 5 years in the States and Sweden studying neuroscience, in an effort to help people reduce their pain and move better instantly, through brain based training. Having done over 15 bodybuilding shows and 11 surgeries, he has many lessons in discipline, healthy habits, positive mindset and learning how to overcome adversity! He is a brand new Dad and is enjoying spending his days with his 3 month old son, Stone Bodhi Rille!Follow Justin on InstagramFollow Justin on Facebook

Let's get one thing clear: Coaches aren't just for athletes. This might be brand-new information to some of us. But Margaret Moore, aka “Coach Meg,” has been helping people from all walks of life discover their strengths and identify opportunities to maximize their potential — on the job, in relationships, and in life — for over 20 years. The former biotech exec founded the Wellcoaches School of Coaching in 2000 to help wellness professionals best serve their patients. Since then, she's added leaders, front-line healthcare workers, and now all of us to her roster of students. On this episode, the Coach's Coach details what effective coaching really means; how leaning into doubt, or “our shadow,” can help us reveal patterns we need to change; and why organizing our minds can set us up for sustainable success (plus, how to do it). She also shares her story of not making it and how we can all be better coaches for ourselves, kids, mentees or even friends. Inspired to move? Life is full of BS, but fitness shouldn't be. That's why truth-teller and Nike trainer-to-the-stars Ben Bruno is on a mission to clear up misconceptions, like “More is more” and “No days off,” and help everyone — including Chelsea Handler and Justin Timberlake — streamline their sweat to get results in the weight room. On this episode, the Columbia grad and self-proclaimed “meathead” shares how a bad back launched his training career, what he's learned from working with Hollywood's finest, and why some of us may want to break up with burpees (we said “some”!). He also details his supersimple method — which involves repeating just a handful of “similar but different” exercises, his “KISS” formula, and his take on the 80/20 rule — so we can all become Bruno Strong on our own. Inspired to move?
