Another reason building a brand matters is because clients now require it. That is, when Serhant or his agents do marketing for a property, the client builds in social media exposure (via Serhant's vast influence) into the contracts. The final reason Serhant is doubling down on media is because as it turns out, the same principles that apply to real estate could also apply to a lot of other industries and THEY could also become Serhant clients via the media portal. Support the show

By now, many have you have figured out that I'll pretty much go to any length to get a great guest. I mean, you might think I'd even change jobs and leave a well established firm to join an upstart company with little brand recognition in this market, just to get an interview with a guy like Ryan Serhant. In our business (real estate, in case you missed that), Ryan Serhant is kinda the big Kahuna: if not the most successful (actually, he is), then without doubt, the most visible, which is pretty much the name of the game anyhow. He's also the star of Emmy nominated "Million Dollar Listing New York" which ran for 9 seasons on Bravo TV, author of two best selling books, "Sell it Like Serhant" and "Big Money Energy", director of the highly successful "Sell it Like Serhant" business education program, and, since 2020, owner and CEO of SERHANT., the rapidly growing brokerage he started (at which I currently work!). Oh and he's got a podcast, too, called "Big Money Energy Podcast" (he gets amazing guests like Jay Shetty, Barbara Corcoran and David Portnoy, among many others). And while I'm grateful to Ryan for taking the time away from all of that, plus his family with whom he lives in Brooklyn, to spend a few minutes in Brew's Cafe. And despite all the fame and success, Ryan is a hands on business operator, an accessible leader, and an all around decent human being. So we sat and chatted for a while and made a podcast out of it. Meet The Transformers: Michelle Isabell, Associate Broker at ReeceNichols Real Estate Belinda Hernandez, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties and Co-Chair of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Forever Pride Network Lori Pace, Realtor with Kentwood Real Estate and inclusion consulting strategist Engaging agents in leadership: Michelle started a group specifically for LGBTQ people and allies within her company to teach realtors how to support and aid clients in the LGBTQ community.   Belinda helps mold the Forever Pride Network, putting on events that help allies best support their LGBTQ clients. In addition, Belinda wants people to use her as a resource to launch panels and discussions, so everyone is informed and confident when working with the LGBTQ community. Through real estate, Lori learned about the history and defining elements of real estate, which heavily contributed to her sense of self in the industry. Defining ‘allyship' and what it means: Specifically for real estate, many implicit biases might arise during a transaction, and those biases often work against those in the LGBTQ community. Michelle wants to help people learn, grow, and better communicate with LGBTQ people.  As allies, there is a guide that provides a lot of information to ask an agent to ensure they aren't violating fair housing and are putting the client's needs first. Leadership is about overcoming adversity: When Michelle told her boss there were not many LGBTQ initiatives in the organization, she offered to spearhead those efforts. As a black woman, Lori used to code-switch to overcome racial biases others might have. As an immigrant, Loi removed her accent and tried limiting mannerisms that might correlate her to her black heritage. However, the murder of George Floyd made her realize that there are situations that still take place in the world and in her community that have a direct impact on her life.  Lori feels her leadership growing through her ability to spread her story, offering a space for women of color to embrace their multiculturalism. It's not just a passion - it's who she is. Message for young people who want to follow their path: Belinda says to be unapologetically you. As women, we're taught to play it small and quiet. You'll encounter challenges along the way, but you'll be happier with yourself and more authentic to the people around you. Michelle believes you should never setter. You can make a change, whether in pursuit of your personal or professional goals. Lori encourages listeners to find collaboration. Working with people ahead of you puts you in a better position to succeed. Your goals can happen more quickly if you have people open doors for you. Engaging an audience is hard enough through one medium, but imagine having to do it across four?! That’s what this episode’s guest, Ryan Serhant, has been able to master. You may know of Ryan from his hit TV shows, “Million Dollar Listing New York” and “Sell It Like Serhant.” Or, maybe you’ve heard he has a book coming out also titled, Sell It like Serhant. Or, maybe you watch his weekly YouTube vlog. Or, maybe you trade in multimillion-dollar New York real estate and have worked with Ryan on a deal. I’m exhausted just writing this post and all of that is Ryan’s life! In each case, he succeeds by engaging an audience (be it an audience of one or millions) and drawing them to him. Roberta PerryFounder of Scrubz Body Bio: After years of taking care of everyone else, Roberta's skin was dry, itchy and irritated. In 2005, at 43, she finally realized that taking care of her skin and herself was important. She discovered exfoliating products, but like the proverbial Goldilocks, none were completely satisfying her needs and wants. She headed for the kitchen and worked like a mad chemist to create her own. With lots of research and trial and error, she mixed up different combinations of botanical oils and came up with a winner. Roberta brought in her late sister, Michelle and in 2006 they started ScrubzBody in Roberta's kitchen. The business moved to a renovated garage and then to a small manufacturing store front, in Bethpage, NY in 2011, moving again in 2014 and once more in Nov. of '17 to a fabulous location at 245 Main St. in Farmingdale, NY. After all these years, she and her team are proud of the fact that the products are still hand made in small batches. ScrubzBody hosts Make Your Own Scrub parties for kids of all ages. They also ship the party to you. They sell retail, private label and wholesale. The business also donates to 6 charities, on a regular basis, with different scents of our products that give back. ScrubzBody Skin Care was the highlighted business on the Season One finale of Sell it Like Serhant on Bravo TV. Needing exposure for the business, but on a really tight budget, Roberta turned to Help a Reporter Out (HARO) and started pitching to writers and reporters. Since 2010, she has been published and quoted in over 100 skin care and business articles, blogs and beauty magazines. Roberta's book, “The Power of Free Publicity, Using HARO (Help a Reporter Out) to Build Relationships and Get Press Without a PR Firm.” was published in August 2016. She was a natural remedy segment guest of the Dr. Oz show, which aired on 10/24/14, as well as a food related segment which aired on 2/29/16. Roberta received the 2016 Nassau County Legislature Trailblazer award for charity work.
