Episode 80: Tom Hine, CFP®, CFS®, MBA & His Book, The Balanced Wealth Approach: Secrets To Living Long And Living Rich In this episode, Tom, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, author, and founder and CEO of Capital Wealth Management, shares with me how there should be comparable focus on both wealth and health when it comes to our futures -- even in his field of wealth management. Through his own journey in finance (the numbers) and karate, meditation, yoga (the physical and the mind), he demonstrates that he's living what he's preaching. The message he shares with his clients, into which he does a deep dive with me here, is a great reminder that we can't take anything for granted. The world is changing, and so how we respond to and live within it also needs to change and become both more intentional and mindful. "You need a 5G mindset to live within a 5G world." What I appreciated most in Tom's message in his book and in the thoughts he shares here is the reminder to be healthier so that we can enjoy what we've accomplished. That wisdom was sparked in Tom when he chose to focus more on his health, through karate as a younger professional, instead of merely climbing the corporate ladder. Financial and career success would not be sufficient to uphold and maintain his mindset. "Drastic times call for drastic measures." This well-known quote comes to mind as Tom talks about how we have to offset all the negative in the world and work on ourselves to achieve the best performance and strongest longevity to move forward and enjoy ourselves and our communities. We need to look for, take into account, and harness what it is we can control to make progress for ourselves. CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS You want to be the CEO of your own health When the mind is quiet, the world will show itself to you Don't be afraid to go back to the past and figure out what makes you whole “A healthy person has a thousand wishes, a sick person only one” (Don't take that for granted.) MENTIONED OR APPLICABLE BOOKS Tom's Other Books What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Nelson Bolles The Gap and The Gain: The High Achievers' Guide to Happiness, Confidence, and Success Hardcover by Dan Sullivan & Dr.Benjamin Hardy Life Force: How New Breakthroughs in Precision Medicine Can Transform the Quality of Your Life & Those You Love Hardcover by Tony Robbins, Peter H. Diamandis, Robert Hariri The MAIN QUESTION underlying my conversation with Tom is, How are you focusing on health in order to move forward with longevity, ensuring you're not taking what you have for granted? ABOUT TOM Tom Hine is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and the author of The Balanced Wealth Approach: Secrets to Living Long and Living Rich. Jesus invitation to become rich toward God is not achievement or the accumulation of good behavior but in the storing up of what is true - we have a Good Father who in intent to provide and protect us that we can trust. That Father wants to protect us from what can in the end control and take His most treasured gift to us - life. That life is found not storing but in giving what we have been freely given - love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness.

Throughout my life I have been told one thing often. "We don't have much but we have enough" and this is a true statement of my youth and something I try to maintain today. SO today we're doing a dive on wealth. Some would say again. But this week I'm talking about this aspiration for wealth which has overtaken the main media as the main goal. I ask which goal you're on and look into the difference between the two terms. I'm almost definitely verging on telling you how to live in this one but more so asking why is there a want to live "rich?" When you could build something much more substantial than wealth. So? Are you living rich or are you living well?Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcreteYou can support the show and Graham by visitingwww.instagram.com/yellingatconcretewww.yellingatconcrete.bigcartel.comwww.ko-fi.com/yellingatconcrete See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

It's easy to look at the rich and famous and think that you aren't very wealthy. What if instead of peace, wealth actually brings anxieties. Join us as we continue our series more than a hashtag exploring our views on wealth and what it might reveal about our heart.
This episode is a confession about the bad habits that kept Adrian broke, the stupidity of living rich, and his 10-year trek to financial fitness. He confronts his own economic ignorance and walks listeners through the money mindsets he had to unlearn in order to grow. Debt is not normal. Money is not evil. Hustle is not a shortcut to a better life, a budget is. Daryl digs into the money questions Adrian gets most often (how did you "pretire" at 41?) as they discuss debt, generosity, investments, and why the most important economic decision you can make is your spouse. Why is it that some people seem to shine in any sphere in which they choose to exert themselves, and others cannot manage even a glimmer despite obvious talent? Research shows that it’s the way that they think about their ability that really counts. These people have a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that intelligence can be developed. People with a growth mindset understand they can get smarter through hard work, the use of effective strategies, and help from others when needed. It is contrasted with a fixed mindset: the belief that intelligence is a fixed trait that is set in stone at birth. This week we will learn the five steps you can take to develop a growth mindset. _____________________________________________________ Get my NEW book Pragmatic Prosperity now! In the next few days, you will make one of the most important decisions of your adult life. No, it is not who will lead our country – it is who will be the leader of you! Who will be the CEO of your life? We have become a society racked by disease – no not COVID – but the disease of entitlement. The belief that someone else should take care of you, someone else should take care of your health - someone else should take care of your economy - someone else should take care of your education - someone else should take care of your retirement - someone else should take care of your wage rate - someone else should take care of your mental stability - someone else should take care of your future. That is plain BS – it is just not how life works. You have to do your own pushups, you have to eat right, you have to get good grades to qualify for the education you want, you have to be good enough to make the team, you have to deliver the results for the wage you want, you have to grow to get promoted, you have to save an sacrifice to retire with money. As soon as you let someone else have the power over your life you sacrifice your own future. Someone else is the master of your fate. You give up safety, security and freedom. A rich life comes from just one thing – your own ability to take responsibility for and produce results in your own life! _____________________________________________________ Get my NEW book Pragmatic Prosperity now! Here is what great advice does: It lifts you up and helps you unlock levels of your heart and your mind you never knew were there. It helps you show up more fully for yourself and others. It helps you claim your life as your own. But the best advice goes further. It is essential. It is universal. It is truth wrapped in carefully-chosen words. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from or what you’ve been through, the best advice removes labels and boundaries, traverses space and time and cuts through skin and bone to reach the heart of hearts buried within all of us. During these challenging and uncertain times, essential wisdom and excellent advice help us find perspective, shift focus and stay grounded. They show us what really matters. They restore us to right-minded thinking and wholehearted living—and break us out of our fog of fear. Right when we need it most. That’s why I’ve assembled the list of advice for this week. May these truths be the light that call you through the mists of fear. May they see you safely back to shore. May they comfort you and remind you of what’s important. Every single time you forget. 1. Your life is your responsibility. 2. The way someone treats you is a reflection of how they feel about themselves. 3. Life is all about managing expectations—most of all your own. 4. When you know better, do better. 5. Your word is your bond. 6. Work hard. Stay humble. 7. Just keep going. No matter what. 8. Release the idea that things could’ve been any other way. 9. Listen more than you speak. 10. Do what you’re afraid to do. 11. Be kind. Always. And lastly - #LiveRich _____________________________________________________ Get my NEW book Pragmatic Prosperity now!
