Resurrecting America's Entrepreneurial Spirit: A Practical Approach for Creating Jobs by Joe Nicassio Amazon.com Employeeescapeplan.com Where Do Entrepreneurs Come From? Entrepreneurs are ordinary people, with a spirit of creativity. These people create commerce. When they are successful, they create JOBS. Every living person on this planet has the fibers of creativity, just like we all have muscle fibers. Every person on this planet has the capacity to be an entrepreneur. When we exercise our muscles, we get stronger, and if we don't, our muscles get weak, and atrophy. The same concept applies to our "business creation muscles." When we train our minds to create value, for the benefit of mankind, we become stronger entrepreneurs. When we fail to train our "business fibers," business stagnates, fewer jobs are created, and eventually, companies fold, and unemployment soars. At the time of this writing, most entrepreneurs emerge as a societal "aberration," because their Spirit is so strong, they are driven by clear purpose, a willingness to learn "whatever it takes", and overcome all environmental and psychological barriers. The thesis of this book is: In order to have a thriving capitalism tomorrow, we, as a nation, have an on-going vested interest in nurturing entrepreneurs today. The book is divided into 3 major sections. Section 1) Moving Our "Economic Mentality" From Employer-Reliance To Self-Reliance Section 2) Eliminating "Spirit Killers" & Replace Them With "Spirit Builders" Section 3) Prayerful Meditation To Build Your Personal Spirit, and Create The Conditions For Miracles To Manifest in Your Business This book is a unique approach to job creation. It is NOT about tax codes, economic policy, or regulations. It is about nurturing entrepreneurs at the grass roots level. This book will remind you that if you want a "dream job," you will need to create it for yourself. No one else is going to do it for you. If you own a business, if you want to start a business, or you are interested in education reform, you will find this book thought-provoking, insightful, and uniquely valuable. About the author Joe Nicassio (1961-present) was born in Los Angeles, California, he grew up in Alta Loma, California, then lived in Long Beach for 30 years. After his interest with technology, he became more interested in human nature, and obsessed with discovering "the truth" of business success. Mokuhanga can be approached in many ways. For some, a hands-on approach is the most appealing, as it places full responsibility on the artist to carefully craft each step—designing, carving by hand, and printing—to achieve the best possible result. However, other mokuhanga artists take a more experimental route, where the possibilities are limitless, and innovation leads to unique outcomes. On this episode of The Unfinished Print, I speak with printmaker Mike Lyon, who has been creating mokuhanga for nearly 30 years. We delve into his philosophy on mokuhanga, his innovative use of a CNC machine in printmaking, and his inventive spirit. We also explore his own mokuhanga prints and the Lyon Collection of Japanese woodblock prints. This interview was conducted while Mike was at the Mokuhanga Project Space in Walla Walla, Washington, and he reflects on his real time experiences during the interview. One other note; there is reference to an accident Mike had as a young man regarding his fingers. Listeners be warned. Please follow The Unfinished Print and my own mokuhanga work on Instagram @andrezadoroznyprints or email me at theunfinishedprint@gmail.com Notes: may contain a hyperlink. Developed by Gichin Funakoshi (1868-1957) in the early 20th century, Shotokan blends self-defense, physical fitness, and mental discipline. It is characterized by its deep stances, focus on kata (pre-arranged forms), kihon (basic techniques), and kumite (sparring). Practitioners strive for mastery of body and mind, aiming to improve both physical strength and inner calm through rigorous practice. Shotokan is one of the most widely practiced karate styles worldwide. Zen Buddhism - is a school of Mahāyāna Buddhism that emphasizes direct experience, meditation (zazen), and mindfulness as paths to enlightenment. Originating in China as Chan Buddhism and later flourishing in Japan, Zen focuses on achieving insight into the nature of existence through meditation rather than reliance on scriptures or ritual. Central to Zen practice is the concept of "no-mind" (mushin), which seeks to quiet the mind and transcend dualistic thinking. Through sitting meditation, koans (paradoxical questions), and the guidance of a teacher, Zen practitioners aim to awaken to their true nature and the interconnectedness of all things. More information about Prussian Blue can be found in my interview with Professor Henry Smith, here. reduction printmaking - is a process in printmaking where the printmaker cuts away on a piece of wood, or linoleum. After every carving, the printmaker makes an impression with pigments, beginning with lighter colours, gradually using darker colours. William H. Mays has a fine description of reduction on his website, here. CNC Machine - A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router is a machine used to cut, carve, or engrave materials like wood, plastic, metal, and foam with high precision, guided by a computer program. The router is controlled by pre-programmed software that dictates the movement of the cutting tool along multiple axes (typically three to five), allowing for complex shapes and designs to be created with great accuracy. CNC routers are commonly used in manufacturing, woodworking, sign-making, and prototyping because they can produce detailed and repetitive cuts that would be difficult to achieve by hand. It has a 2-line display for showing both the program and the results, and it can perform a variety of functions, including trigonometric, logarithmic, and statistical calculations. The HP-25 is recognized for its durability, design, and the pioneering role it played in the evolution of personal computing and calculators. subroutine - also known as a function, method, or procedure, is a set of instructions designed to perform a specific task within a larger program. Subroutines allow programmers to break down complex problems into smaller, manageable pieces, promoting code reusability and organization. When a subroutine is called, the program temporarily transfers control to that subroutine, executes its instructions, and then returns control to the main program or calling code, often providing a result or output. This modular approach makes it easier to debug, maintain, and understand code, as well as to share functionality across different parts of a program or between different programs. Echizen - is a region in Fukui Prefecture, Japan, known for its long history of papermaking. The area is home to many paper artisans. One notable figure is Iwano Ichibei. Guerra & Paint Pigment Corp. - is a brick and mortar store located in Brooklyn, New York that sells artists pigments. More info, here. CMYK colour model - stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key which are the colours used in the printing process of whichever work you are making. More info, here. rasters - or raster graphics, are a type of digital image composed of a grid of individual pixels, each containing colour information. This pixel-based format is commonly used in digital photography, web graphics, and image editing, with resolution defined by the number of pixels in each dimension (width x height) and measured in dots per inch (DPI) or pixels per inch (PPI). While raster images can capture detailed and complex visuals, such as photographs, they can lose quality and become pixelated when enlarged, as the individual pixels become more visible. Common raster file formats include JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP. Unlike vector graphics, which use mathematical equations to represent images and can be scaled infinitely without loss of quality, rasters are less suitable for images requiring resizing or scaling. Shotbot code - typically refers to programming or scripting used to automate tasks in photography, particularly in photo booths or photography studios. It may involve controlling camera settings, managing image capture, and organizing files, allowing photographers to streamline their workflows and enhance productivity. Often associated with the ShotBot app, this code enables remote triggering of cameras, capturing images at set intervals, and integrating with other software for efficient image management. By utilizing Shotbot code, photographers can achieve consistent results and improve the overall efficiency of their photography projects. Madz - Portrait of the artist Madeline Cass. 31"x32" for more information regarding the process of how this print was made can be found on Mike Lyon's website, here. Post Digital Printmaking - is printmaking using Computer Numeric Control (CNC) devices, including laser cutters and CNC routers, that are used for matrix production in lithography, intaglio, and relief printing. closed-loop controller -is a type of control system that continuously monitors and adjusts its output based on feedback from the system it is controlling. In this system, the controller receives information about the current state or output and compares it to a desired setpoint or target value. This feedback allows the controller to make real-time adjustments to the input or control signal to minimize the difference between the actual output and the desired output, enhancing accuracy and stability. Closed-loop controllers are commonly used in applications such as industrial automation, robotics, temperature control, and motor speed regulation, and they are contrasted with open-loop controllers, which do not utilize feedback and rely solely on predefined input commands. The feedback mechanism in closed-loop systems improves performance, allowing for better handling of disturbances and changes in system dynamics. MDF - or Medium-Density Fiberboard, is an engineered wood product made from wood fibres, wax, and resin that are compressed under high pressure and temperature. It is known for its smooth surface, uniform density, and versatility, making it a popular choice for furniture, cabinetry, moldings, and decorative applications. MDF can be easily cut, shaped, and painted, allowing for intricate designs and finishes. Unlike solid wood, MDF does not have knots or grain patterns, providing a consistent appearance. It is often used as a cost-effective alternative to solid wood and plywood, although it can be more susceptible to moisture damage and may require sealing for certain applications. Unified Fighting Systems Jeet Kune Do!!! Step into the World of Martial Arts with Andy Gibney In the latest episode, we had the immense pleasure of hosting Andy Gibney, a seasoned martial artist whose journey is as captivating as it is inspiring. From the early influences of television heroes like Roger Moore in "The Saint" to the legendary Bruce Lee, Andy's path in martial arts is a testament to passion, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of personal growth. Andy's fascination with martial arts began as a young boy, captivated by the dynamic fight scenes on TV and the charisma of stars like Elvis Presley and Bruce Lee. However, it was "Enter the Dragon" that truly ignited his lifelong passion. Despite being too young to watch the film in cinemas, Andy vividly recalls the impact of seeing Bruce Lee's clips on television, sparking a desire that would shape his future. Starting with Shotokan Karate, Andy's martial arts journey was one of exploration and discovery. He trained in various styles, from Tai Chi to Kung Fu, constantly seeking to broaden his understanding and skills. His dedication led him to notable figures in the martial arts world, including Larry Hartsell and Dan Inosanto, who further influenced his path. A pivotal moment in Andy's journey was his introduction to Jeet Kune Do, the martial art founded by Bruce Lee. Through seminars and personal training, Andy immersed himself in this philosophy, which emphasizes adaptability and personal expression. His experiences with legendary instructors like Richard Bustillo at the IMB Academy enriched his knowledge and deepened his commitment to martial arts. But Andy's story is not just about physical prowess. He speaks passionately about the importance of mental control and personal development. Drawing from his own experiences and the teachings of mentors like Richard Bustillo, Andy emphasizes that true mastery in martial arts extends beyond physical techniques to encompass mental discipline and self-awareness. Andy's insights into the evolution of martial arts are profound. He reflects on how traditional practices have adapted to modern needs, highlighting the relevance of personal development, stress relief, and community in today's training. His approach to teaching, which balances history, technique, and personal growth, offers a holistic view of martial arts that resonates with both seasoned practitioners and newcomers alike. In this episode, Andy also shares amusing anecdotes from his training days, adding a touch of humour to his rich narrative. From the quirks of early training sessions to the camaraderie of martial arts communities, his stories paint a vivid picture of a life dedicated to the art. Whether you're a martial arts enthusiast or someone seeking inspiration, Andy Gibney's journey offers valuable lessons in perseverance, adaptability, and the power of the human spirit. Episode 80: Tom Hine, CFP®, CFS®, MBA & His Book, The Balanced Wealth Approach: Secrets To Living Long And Living Rich In this episode, Tom, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, author, and founder and CEO of Capital Wealth Management, shares with me how there should be comparable focus on both wealth and health when it comes to our futures -- even in his field of wealth management. Through his own journey in finance (the numbers) and karate, meditation, yoga (the physical and the mind), he demonstrates that he's living what he's preaching. The message he shares with his clients, into which he does a deep dive with me here, is a great reminder that we can't take anything for granted. The world is changing, and so how we respond to and live within it also needs to change and become both more intentional and mindful. "You need a 5G mindset to live within a 5G world." What I appreciated most in Tom's message in his book and in the thoughts he shares here is the reminder to be healthier so that we can enjoy what we've accomplished. That wisdom was sparked in Tom when he chose to focus more on his health, through karate as a younger professional, instead of merely climbing the corporate ladder. Financial and career success would not be sufficient to uphold and maintain his mindset. "Drastic times call for drastic measures." This well-known quote comes to mind as Tom talks about how we have to offset all the negative in the world and work on ourselves to achieve the best performance and strongest longevity to move forward and enjoy ourselves and our communities. We need to look for, take into account, and harness what it is we can control to make progress for ourselves. CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS You want to be the CEO of your own health When the mind is quiet, the world will show itself to you Don't be afraid to go back to the past and figure out what makes you whole “A healthy person has a thousand wishes, a sick person only one” (Don't take that for granted.) Diamandis, Robert Hariri The MAIN QUESTION underlying my conversation with Tom is, How are you focusing on health in order to move forward with longevity, ensuring you're not taking what you have for granted? Help us with our Juno research: https://forms.gle/12mhRWTFMBQ1ygkC7 I remember some time back in 2015, clicking around the additional objects on astro.com and discovering asteroid Juno who happened to be sandwiched right between my tight Mercury–Venus conjunction. Of course I was intrigued, but I was deep in the throes of a Pluto transit, so I had limited focus for distractions at that time. Recently by chance, I got talking to today's guest: Lianne McCafferty, about her peacock-inspired workspace – relevant for me over recent months as my little boy and I have been obsessed with them! We regularly have to visit the local “beegogs” as he so adorably puts it. Turns out peacocks are associated with Juno! Just magical. Leanne has been fascinated with Juno since 2019/20 and has done a great deal of research which she is kindly sharing with us today. Like Venus and Jupiter, Leanne believes Juno to have benefic qualities which is no surprise as Juno is the wife of Jupiter. She is also known as Hera in Greek Mythology: long-suffering and committed wife of nymph-chasing serial-adulterer Zeus. But Juno is about so much more than relationships – she impacts not only on a personal level, but social and mundane levels too, due to the speed, location and elliptical orbit of this fascinating asteroid. ➡️ Where is Juno in your chart and can you relate to any of the areas we've covered today? I am Lana Stevenson, the owner of Resilience Shift, and a Cancer Exercise Specialist. Resilience Shift focuses on using movement and nutrition for chronic disease prevention to achieve longevity. We create safe and effective exercise programming to help people live longer with a better quality of life. I am passionate about creating personalized exercise programs for cancer patients and survivors. I create custom programs pertaining to each individual's specific condition, focusing on the importance of the mind/body connection. I have been a competitive athlete most of my life. From achieving a Black belt in Shotokan Karate, to running 20+ Marathons and numerous other distance races at a high level, I branched into Personal Training and coaching as a career for the past 30 years and have run my own Personal Training studio for 30 years. I truly love what I do with a passion. My younger daughter has been fighting stage 4 colon cancer for the past 9 years. She has endured 6 lung metastases resulting in 5 lung surgeries plus 1 series of radiation and ablation, 2 ovary metastases resulting in both ovaries being removed, numerous inoperable tumors in her pelvic area and 4 rounds of chemotherapy lasting 3 to 6 months each. Not to mention the Opioid addiction resulting from long term use. As a single mom and sole provider, I have had to move through this exceedingly difficult journey and figure out each new step alone, while keeping my personal training business going. As you can imagine, this has been no easy feat, especially when I have felt emotionally depleted, still always keeping my daughter the number one priority.Historically, cancer patients were told to rest as much as possible and to save their energy especially while going through treatment. Exercise did not seem like a possibility. However, science is now showing the opposite. Movement is extremely beneficial even while going through treatment, even the smallest amount. One just needs to know how to exercise safely!Since my daughter's diagnosis, I made it my mission to study exercise for the different types of cancers, treatments, surgeries, etc. So, I become certified as a Cancer Exercise Specialist through CETI (Cancer Exercise Training Institute).I now create personalized programs for cancer survivors so that they can safely gain the benefit of exercise, physically, mentally and emotionally, and regain some sense of normalcy and independence. https://www.resilienceshifthealth.comBook: Moving through CancerSupport the show
Apple Fitness+ recently added kickboxing to their workouts. Back in the day, I took Shotokan Karate lessons, so I thought this would be an easy transition. Wow… I learned a lot about the power of routines. And of course, I applied it to schools and classrooms.

Before actor Jason David Frank would pass away at the age of just 49-years-old, he made a name for himself as Tommy Oliver, otherwise known as one of the original “Power Rangers”. Frank was born on September 4th, 1973, in and those acrobatic abilities he regularly displayed on-screen weren't manufactured through television magic because this talented actor wasn't only an eighth-degree black belt in real life, he also possessed experience in multiple other forms of martial arts as well. His journey in the art of self-defense began at the age of four with the study of Shotokan Karate at a dojo known as Red Dragon Karate. By the time he reached 12, Frank had already earned his first black belt and became committed to passing on the Code of the Dragon through teaching. As he grew older, he'd absorb further art-forms including Taekwondo, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai on his way to gaining experience as a mixed-martial artist. Then, in 1994, Frank would become the owner of Red Dragon Karate where he had begun his journey 14-years-earlier. When Jason David Frank was introduced in 1993 as one of the original six crime-and-monster-fighting superheroes that were masked head-to-toe in flashy armor and kung-fu skills, it wasn't actually something that was meant to last. Fans of the series will no doubt remember that Frank started off his career as Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger in Season 1. At first, he was introduced as an enemy of the Power Rangers during the five-episode arc known as “Green with Evil” – but when it became clear that he had instantly turned into a fan-favorite character, he signed on for a recurring role and inevitably made his way over to the side of good by transforming into the White Ranger and becoming the new leader of the group.
Ady Gray is a 6th Dan in Shotokan Karate and the former EKF National Kata Team Coach. He has a broad experience in Karate and gives us a fascinating insight into coaching philosophy and the martial journey. Don't miss this episode!
Equipping your child with the life skills necessary for living a successful and, most importantly, fulfilled life” - Founders of Kidz2kidz Coaching The Manns Girls... Destiny, Aasha, and Imahkus Manns are three sisters born and raised in Ghana, West Africa. Their Dad is African American and lived in Ghana for 20 years, building and developing his Chiropractic Center with his wife, Mavis Manns, whom he met a few months after arriving in Ghana. The three have been homeschooled most of their lives using the accredited Abeka Academy program based in Pensacola, Florida. During their free time as youth, they were involved in many extracurriculars from Swimming, language, and music classes to Shotokan Karate, where they each rose to the ranks of Black belt, with Aasha becoming the youngest Black belt in Africa at age 8. In 2014 their family packed up, sold many of their belongings, consolidated their Chiropractic and Wellness center to run without the CEO's constant presence, and began what would be later called the Manns 7 World Tour. For the next five years, they lived for 2-4 months in over 20 countries, 32 cities, and 48 U.S states. At the end of their travels, the two oldest girls graduated high school and chose to attend the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA, where, in their senior year, they study Sociology, Psychology, and Business Marketing/sales. Aasha is looking to pursue a career in law, Destiny a career in Financial Services, and the youngest sister, Imahkus, recently began her first year at the University of Virginia (UVA) where she is looking to pursue the Pre-med track. The rest of the Manns family, including the rest of the Manns siblings, lived in Richmond for the older girl's first years at University but are now moving back to Ghana. During their travels, the Manns girls developed the idea for their business, Kidz2Kidz Coaching LLC, and finally launched in September 2021. For the past year or so, they have been working hard to perfect and grow their program and connect with schools and organizations in Richmond to provide their services as Kids' Soft skill Coaches. A Chat About the ARX Vision Headset Being Reviewed by the Vision Australia Vision Store Hardware Bone conduction head set, on left sound cheek pad contains the volume up/down buttons, and right cheek pad is moulded in to the rectangular camera unit containing 3 clearly shaped buttons. From the bottom of the camera module is the fixed UsBC cable. Microphone is also in the camera housing. Software ARX Android only app at the moment used to power the head set, enabling both local and online processing of scene detection, specific object detection, short OCr text, document OCR scanning, face recognition, and QR code scanning. Onboarding on device when first using it, training mode to remind user how to position camera, and Help mode to remind users on how to use the 3 buttons. ARX head set can be used via the buttons or controlled from simple voice commands. Note - ARX head set connected via a UsBC cable to the Android phone. Benefits All processing is done via the smart phone/cloud, head set there to to provide audio output, mic input, and image processing via the camera. Having a wired connection leads to faster data transfer between the head set and the phone. Scene detection works extremely well, as does Object specific recognition, Document scanning, and face detection. Short text recognition perhaps not as fast as Seeing AI app on iOS, but certainly usable. Audio processing sound is heard to let user know that the ARX head set is active in a mode, and no sound when the unit is put in to idle mode. A lot more cost effective than other similar products on the market. Braille companion getting started guide included. Points To Consider The screen reader Talkback running on the Android phone is very soft volume wise compared to the self voicing of the ARX head set. The maximum volume of the self voicing on the ARX head set is distorted at the maximum volume. The camera unit which gently touch's the side of the face does get quite warm, not hot, but very noticeable. Aira not yet supported on the ARX head set but coming soon. iPhone compatibility being worked on. Blind Shell Classic 2 app being worked on. Moving forward, most functions will bee via the cloud for getter processing of images etc requiring cellular data on the phone, works well on Wifi at home. Excellent product under development. For more info: https://arx.vision As a bit of a result of a chat outcome from Tech Friday last week (my weekly tech chat Zoom meeting), thinking of doing a “smack down” chat concerning the ARX, Orcam, and Envision in January 2023. Resetting Goals on your Apple Watch Due to my Karate journey, I've had to up my goals on my Apple Watch and surprisingly I couldn't remember where to do this. In a nut shell, it's in the Activity app on the Apple Watch, and you need to scroll down wright to the bottom of the screen to find the change goals button. https://www.cultofmac.com/671532/how-to-set-apple-watch-move-goal/ Accessibility Assistant for Apple Watch, iPhone, and Mac This is a shortcut you can run which allows you to pop in your general disability, and any sub-disabilities as it were, and then get recommendations in notes for accessibility settings. Note - as the Apple Watch does not have an actual notes app, you run the Apple Watch short cut on your iPhone, iPad or Mac along with the other two for iOS or Mac. Is Siri Falling Behind with Natural Language Processing Last week I wanted to remind myself how to count to 10 in Japanese as part of my Shotokan Karate training. When I asked Alexa, I got the answer in counting to 10. However, when I asked Siri, she translated “how do I count to 10 in Japanese” as a direct translation sigh. Alexa and Google are still forging ahead, and can't help feeling Siri is falling more and more behind.Support this Vision Australia Radio program: https://www.visionaustralia.org/donate?src=radio&type=0&_ga=2.182040610.46191917.1644183916-1718358749.1627963141See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He has written fifty books, several multi-award-winning films, three stage plays and hundreds of articles, many published in national magazines and broadsheets. In the show we discuss the shadow and how irrespective of what's going on in the outside world no matter how crazy it is, all change starts within and in facing our shadow and our individual behaviour. In the Plus show Geoff explains, how in looking to grow we can find happiness. How the divine finds the optimum route for us, we just need to listen. Geoff explains how perceptions become reality in an absolute sense. In that we create, we maintain and we dissolve our reality. Fundamentally we need to work on ourselves and be distracted by the outside world via what he terms as Radical ownership. In doing so challenges will arise in the form of our shadows, We must catch these shadows at the level of there provocation. He asks the question of us - who are you when you're in the dark at night? We love the book episodes and hope you do too. Master Funakoshi was such an interesting read. Listen and see if you agree. The book touches on everything from how he lived to his Martial Arts philosophy. Somehow we got to a note about a philosophy that centers around The Empty Circle. I couldn't remember, in the moment, where that came from - it's from Soho Tukuan (I'm a fan so I can't believe I forgot!) I also say we did an episode on the empty circle - we didn't - but we did do one on Tukuan. Here's the link:https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/3084802Just in case you missed the 1st episode about this book, here's the audio re Master Kano:https://www.buzzsprout.com/477379/10515380We mention that we've already done a whole episode on Master Funakoshi and Shotokan Karate. Tess Dong (artist) is my incredible 88 year old neighbor, but more importantly an amazing artist and gardener. She was kind enough to sit down and talk about her 60+ career in art while talking about immigrating to the United States when she was 14. This is one of my favorite interviews ever. Below is how the MONA museum in Los Angeles' write up on Tessie: Tessie Dong was born in Canton, China. She moved to Arizona as a teenager and received an Associates of Art from Eastern Arizona College and later moved to Los Angeles for further study. She received her education at Art Center College of Design, specializing in commercial illustration. After photography grew in prominence as an advertising medium, Dong pivoted from illustrator to work in architectural model building. This attention to space and proximity to architects led her to propose monumental works, designed with architecture in mind. She conceived of and created large-scale architectural installations for banks, restaurants, tennis clubs, private homes and synagogues. The mediums she used ranged from batik canvases, painted dimensional murals, and multimedia sculptures. She is a skillful welder and glassblower who hand makes each element in her work, embracing the transformative capacities of color, light, and material. “I had to learn how to bend neon tubes in order to add them to my metal work so it's integrated in the whole,” states Dong. Dong's 20-foot tower Enlightenment is permanently installed at the Chinatown branch of the LA Public Library. The second degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, avid gardener, and artist states “I keep on going.” Several years ago Tessie Dong was offered a large art commision the same week that she was diagnosed with cancer. The artist pushed through with the commission, secretly battling her diagnosis through studio sessions, chemotherapy, radiation, and naps. Every day she would move towards completing the work, promising herself she would not die before it was finished. “I almost died of cancer, but designing and completing my 24′ x 6' x 2' wall sculpture helped me to survive,” states Dong. The artist has been cancer free since. Dong states, “My work is about interplay of space and form, of natural lines and industrial materials, of harmony and tension- it's sometimes hard to delineate where my pieces start and stop and where work and life intersect. There is nothing about my world that is not part of a vast composition: My garden, my house, my studio, my life. They reflect the same symbiosis of organic chance and composition which typifies my evolving work.” Tessie Dong's work has been exhibited internationally and she has participated in several museum exhibitions. Her work is held in various private and corporate collections. “My art is a continual process. My goal is to design and create multi-media works for public and private spaces to enhance human communication through artistic media. I grow with each project and then apply my extended experience to each future work,” says Dong. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on Total Movie Recall, Steve and Ryan wonder why kids are scared of the stupidest boogeymen. The Leprechaun haunted Ryan for his entire childhood, waiting in dark corners, making it unable for him to pee in the middle of the night. If only he had watched the movie when he was seven years old, and seen how stupid, unscary, unwitty, and half-assed this boring, lazy movie is, he wouldn't have wasted another second being scared. In episode 18 of "The Beats with Kelly Kennedy", Kelly is joined by Ian Kennedy, her business partner and husband. 23 years ago, Kelly saw Ian as a client and after eliminating her chronic pain due to a car accident three years prior with what he called "energy", she became determined to understand the science behind what he did for her and so many like her. Today, she sits down with him to dive into what that "energy" is. Ian expands upon the topic by taking us through the four energy bodies every person is made up of, how becoming more self aware in our daily lives can shift our experience, and how his own journey brought him to the place he is now, 30 years into his career. About Ian Kennedy: Ian Kennedy was born in 1958. His early years where deeply influenced by his father who was a self educated naturalist. Ian attended Neshaminy high school graduating in 1977. He worked with the mentally disabled for many years before completing his first of many black belt rakings in both Kenpo and Shotokan Karate. In the mid 1980's Ian founded Inner Circle Martial Arts and taught for over fifteen years. He also joined the U.S. Army and was trained as a combat medic. In 2005 Ian founded True Wellness of PA, a nutritionally based holistic health center. In 2006, he began his formal studies in the European Biological Medicine program designed by Dr. Thomas Rau, completing that program in 2008. Since that time he has continued his studies with world renowned natural practitioners and doctors committed to the Bioregulatory approach to health. Currently he sits on the board of advisors for B.R.M.I. the Bioregulatory Medicine Institute, which is a non-profit organization devoted to education and the promotion of Bioregulatory Medicine. Today, Ian continues to guide people into what he has termed as a Bioregulatory Lifestyle. Presently he lives in Harleysville Pennsylvania with his wife, and his partner in True Wellness, Kelly and their son Silas.
