She realizes that if she stays in the marriage, her son would also become abusive to women.  Staying together kept both of them from finding happiness, love, and healthy relationships down the line. Kate talks about the co-parenting system she has with her ex-husband. You can only control what's happening in your house, the healing process, and the therapy. Create a safe place and a safety net for your children and yourself. When you focus on yourself, you will have less time and energy to obsess about what other people are doing, and it will keep your mind from running.  [08:01 – 20:27] Parenting Life after Divorce Most women, especially stay-at-home mothers, think that they need to have full custody because their ex-husband does not know how to take care of their children. Most men can not do it because they never had to. We have to give people the dignity of failing and allow them to find their own way. 50-50 custody is better for women, especially for working women. Kate talks about breaking the familiar cycle for herself and her son. Remove yourself from the situation and focus on your healing through therapy etc. In our generation, we can easily have access to personal development and therapy at this level. Kate talks about breaking the cycle of possessive parenting. The opposite of sick is sick. If your goal is just to be the polar opposite of your parent, then you are probably screwing that up just as much as they did. Kate talks about her way of parenting that lets her son explore the world. Open a safe space for discussion regarding many things with your child. We want our children to be able to come or call us in any situation. She shares how she was raped and physically abused for the first time by her ex-boyfriend. She shares about how she took the final decision to end the relationship. [06:20 – 11:46] The Common Denominator Kate talks about her life after college.  She shares the story of how she met her ex-husband. She attended a couple of CoDA meetings. Kate shares about her realization of being the common denominator  She went to her first Al-Anon meetings, which completely changed everything. She talks about the red flags that she missed. Her ex-boyfriend held constant control of her, leading to dependent feelings. She continuously attempted to make herself better for her ex-husband to turn things around for ten years. It was all about having something for him to control, dominate, and belittle her. That is the only way he could feel good about himself. Narcissists feel so bad about themselves while also having a completely over-inflated ego. [11:47 – 18:32] Realizing the Magnitude of The Trauma Kate talks about the similarities between her childhood trauma and her relationship with her ex-husband. Her ex-husband is the perfect combination of her worst childhood wounding.  She talks about her current relationship with her ex-husband and how things are different now. The solution and the work are all up to her. An abusive person will never admit and change their behavior just because you tell them to. You have to remove yourself from the situation. When you are in an abusive situation, you are constantly in a trauma response that does not allow you to process things. Only until you are out of the relationship and your trauma response gets settled will you start to realize the magnitude of the damage Tweetable Quotes:  “Narcissists feel so bad about themselves while also having a completely overinflated ego.” - Kate Anthony. “An abusive person will never admit and change their behavior just because you tell them to. [00:01 – 09:59] Credit Card Debts Rick talks about credit card debt. The interest level on each bank  We have to pay attention to the financial charges at this level of debts and the way to get it a lot lower. Take a loan from your 401k at a much lower interest rate.  When you are paying back that loan, you are paying back to your retirement account. If you can not find a realistic strategy to pay it off in a reasonable amount of time, consolidate your debt into a lower interest rate. In order to build wealth and save for the investment future, we should not have any major debts that are not good debt. Good debt is the kind of debt that is tied into an asset such as a house. [06:20 – 16:15] Closing Segment Rick reiterates the impact that your emotions have on your finances. Hiring a financial planner is not necessarily just to tackle the financial experiences but also to help you through the best practices and things that he has learned from many successful people's journeys.  Learn and explore some of the best practices that other people have in planning their finances; then, you will be able to move your emotion to a good state around your finance.  What are your goals for the next 12 months?
