Carmen Maria Machado was born July 3rd, 1986 in Allentown Pennsylvania. She is the author of the short story collection Her Body and Other Parties, memoir In the Dream House, and comic The Low, Low Woods. She is well known for crossing genre borders and creating a new genre called "Liminal fantasy." Winner of the National Book critics Circle Award John Leonard Prize, Machado has a long list of residencies, honors, and academic essays to her name. Benjamin Percy was born in Eugene, Oregon on March 28, 1978. He spent most of his formative years growing up in Oregon and it serves as the primary setting for most of his fiction. Benjamin has written six novels, as well as short stories, nonfiction essays, comics, podcasts, and screenplays. Morbid romance cast! Our dear friend Kailey Tedesco joins us with some killer picks in Carmen Maria Mechado's "The Low Low Woods" a graphic novel set in a burning Pennsylvania town. She also chose Olivia Rodrigo's album "sour" and Gregorio brings the beer with Workhorse Brewing's "Bonfire Nights" smoked lager. Trauma is the main course in this cast as the graphic novel deals with notions of inherited trauma and the act of giving consent to remember. Had a great time with this quick read: The Low, Low Woods. A weird tale set in the crags of Pennsylvania in a town not unlike Centralia. Lovely stuff. I didn't rate it but it is a solid 4 of 5 for me ~ with potential depending on how much more if this series there ever will be. There's something in the woods...
