I kept them on the first version of my web site, where they were displayed randomly. But as time went on, I realized I wanted them where I would see them. Eventually I copied the fledgeling collection onto 3×5 cards and put them in a small box. As I find new ones, I add cards. Mary Anne Radmacher – Courage Doesn't Always RoarAired Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM ESTOne of the most endearing scenes in the “Wizard of Oz” is when the “Cowardly Lion” finds the courage to help his friend Dorothy. He discovers something within himself to transcend fear and do what he knows is right. And this did not require a bellowing roar. My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Mary Anne Radmacher, beautifully shares this sentiment. Mary Anne Radmacher is a writer and an artist. She conducts workshops on living a full, creative, balanced life, teaches Internet writing seminars, and works with individual clients. She has been writing since she was a child, and she uses her writing to explore symbols and find meaning. Today I talked to Bron Williams about her book I Have Seen the Moon: Reflections on Nauru (2017). Mary Anne Radmacher wrote, "I am not the same having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world." Have you ever looked at the moon from a different angle? I don't mean looking at it upside down as you might have done as a child, through your legs or hanging from the monkey bars. I mean, have you ever looked at the moon and it looked upside down? I know the moon is round and that there really is no up or down side to a circle, but I'm talking about a quarter moon or a crescent moon. Have you ever seen a crescent moon where the crescent just doesn't seem to be in the right place? That's how it seemed to me when I lived and worked on Nauru. Nauru, the Pleasant Island, is a tiny island nation just 23 km around, lying in the Pacific Ocean 30km south of the equator and some 2800km north-west of Australia. It is a typical tropical island - palm trees, warm blue seas, smiling locals and cheap food. It also houses one of Australia's off-shore detention centres, and it was here that I worked, off and on, for 15 months. In the months after I returned to Australia permanently I realised that inside me I had built wall. This wall was not to keep things out, nor to keep things in. it was merely a wall constructed from all the events, people, memories, impressions and emotions that made up my time working in off-shore processing in Nauru. “Courage doesn't always roar; sometimes courage is the tiny voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.” How true are these words about courage from Mary Anne Radmacher! A mistruth about missional living that once deterred me from getting to know my neighbors is that it was a life available only to extreme extroverts or insanely courageous people. I am neither. I'd choose peaceful harmony over adventure most days and still feel that twinge of hesitation at the beginning of so many conversations. Yet I know that doing life with my neighbors put together so many puzzle pieces I'd carried around for years. If you, too, feel less than courageous, like you are stuck between wanting to adopt a missional lifestyle and feeling horribly inadequate, there is hope. I know it's possible to have courage even when we are afraid because I've experienced it. Listen in, or if you prefer to read, head on over to the blog. Today's quote continues our series on "Courage" that we started last time in Episode 9. This quote comes to us from an author that many of us probably have not heard of - Mary Anne Radmacher. She is not a household name like Dickens or Twain, but she is a very popular author in her own genre, and she has had her share of quotes. This quote of hers is one I have always loved: "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow."These quotes on courage are all from my gift book for graduating seniors called, Inspiration for the Graduate. In the book I have 10 different "Team Themes" that I used with my teams through the years, as well as a variety of quotes in support of those themes. I also set up the first page for coaches to write their own personal note to the graduate. If you are interested in finding out more about the book, go to my website, Great Resources for Coaches and scroll down the page.

Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 1050 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Beginning Every Fresh Moment – Wisdom Unplugged Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-1050/ (Day 1050) of our trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek.  Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Mary Anne Radmacher, and it is, “Difficulties impact me, but they do not define me. Challenges mold me, but they do not make me. Praise may encourage me, but it is my own vision that inspires me. Successes may spur me on, but it is my own reward that satisfies me. Pain may permeate, but my heart and hope prevail. Criticism and pettiness may knock, but the lock is on my side of the door. Abundance may pave the road, but it is generosity that lights the way. My way. Beginning every fresh moment, now!” Beginning Every Fresh Moment We often want to shift the responsibilities for our decisions and actions to external circumstances that we face each day, but external circumstances do not really control us. We cannot control the external circumstance in our lives, but we can always control how we respond to those external circumstances. We always have a choice, even though those choices may be very difficult. Difficulties, challenges, praise, success, pain, criticism, and abundance, are all external stimuli, but it is our core values and integrity that controls how we respond to either positive or negative stimuli. We have a choice at any point in our lives to allow our lives to be fresh and new, to live from this point forward guided by core values that are built on the solid bedrock of Biblical integrity. Our lives are holy beacons of light that should shine the light of hope, love, and joy into the lives of others. Let us always be a light shining brightly because of who we are, not because of our external circumstances, regardless of whether they are positive or negative. We are instructed in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+5%3A16&version=NLT (Matthew 5:16,) “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. If you would like free access to my database of over 11,000 inspirational quotes, the link is available on the main page of https://wisdom-trek.com/ (Wisdom-Trek.com). As you enjoy these nuggets of wisdom, encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along https://wisdom-trek.com/day-1051/ (tomorrow) for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy. Camille Sanzone’s guest, Mary Anne Radmacher, (www.MaryAnneRadmacher.net), author of LEAN FORWARD INTO YOUR LIFE...begin each day as if it were on purpose, among other books, is also an artist & writing instructor. Living our lives on purpose gives us a better shot at being a shining example rather than a warning to others. Her latest book is SHE: A Celebration of Greatness In Every Woman, co-written by Liz Kalloch. The word “celebrate” is derived from a Latin word meaning to “fill up” & the writings in this book suggest that women, do that frequently – fill up, knowing that we matter greatly, that who we are & what we do matters. It reminds us that we deserve to feel known, cherished & loved.
