In this episode I was joined by Mexican pro Fernanda Lira who has joined from back in Mexico City ahead of a sponsors invite into this week's Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba, the first Mexican event on LPGA Tour in over 8 years. We talk about how prestigious the Mexican events are for the likes of Fernanda, Gaby Lopez, Maria Fassi & Isabella Fierro and the lasting impact of LPGA legend and former World Number 1 player Lorena Ochoa has had on the development for future Mexican players. Fernanda is from Mexico City and started playing the game at about 6 years old due to the old Mario Golf game along with her brother and went to University of Central Arkansas winning events at college level at UoCA and was Freshman of the Year in her time there where she would also meet her now husband Ryan Shuttleworth who caddies on the LET with Alexandra Swayne currently. Fun fact Fernanda adopted a street dog called Poncho. Fernanda turned Pro in 2019 and would win in 2020 on Women's All Pro Tour at Crown Colony Challenge and would also win on WAPT in 2021 at Mountain Ranch Championship. Fernanda's biggest triumph would be winning 2021 Firekeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Michigan on Epson Tour defeating Isi Gabsa, Sophia Schubert, Danielle Iacobelli & a certain 2x Major Champion and former best player in the world Lilia Vu by a whopping 6 shots. At the end of 2023 Fer would finish T5th at LET Final Q School to gain status for 2024 where she had her Rookie season on Ladies European Tour with best finishes of T22nd at KPMG Women's Irish Open, T32nd at Lacoste Ladies Open de France and T33rd at Amundi German Masters. Fernanda not only plays this week in Mexico on a sponsors invite but she also got a sponsors invitation to play the next LET event at Tenerife Open in 2 weeks time at Abama Golf. TGL Tuesdays come to a close, as this episode was a YouTube live recording following Billy Boy's crowning moment in the SoFi Dome! Andy and Brendan begin by discussing the Atlanta Drive's SoFi Cup win, rounding out the TGL season. They share some overall takeaways from the inaugural screen golf season, Andy breaks out his data-driven power rankings one last time, and PJ is reeling after yet another New York sports loss in a playoff environment. There are pleas for Billy Horschel to take his (rightful) place on the Ryder Cup team this fall, with his MVP-worthy screen golf performance showing he's ready for the main stage. In real golf (37:50, for all of you timestamp fans), Andy deems this week's Hero Indian Open "the Event of the Year" with the DP World Tour heading back to DLF. A listener writes in with some in-person insight from our favorite course, complete with an SGS legend sighting in the clubhouse! Picks are made for the Houston Open, which Tony Finau believes is the best Masters prep on Tour. The LPGA returns with the Ford Championship in Arizona and Brendan passes on some insight from the latest episode of The Mixed Bag. The Champions Tour continues its California Swing, but you'll have to chase down how to watch it across multiple platforms. Finally, the NFLPA Classic at Mayakoba is filling some airtime on Golf Channel this week, so PJ gives an in-depth breakdown of the field and some quotes from on-course reporter Jameis Winston. To wrap things up, Andy, Brendan, and PJ discuss how one would fly to India to make it out to DLF for the Indian Open this weekend.
Jacco Van Teeffelen, GM of Fairmont Mayakoba, appreciates his asset manager.

The weather has calmed a bit in Northern California, but things could be looking mucky for the influencer-palooza at the Phoenix Open. They begin with some clean up from Monday, where Pebble was called, Wyndham was declared the winner, and then he offered some candid quotes about weighing a LIV decision in the offseason. They ponder the current state of pro golf with these decisions and some of the payouts going to middling players for middling finishes. This is cause to discuss the hullabaloo around LIV's ratings from Mayakoba: should we laugh at them or hat tip some of the jumps? Is it completely negligible against PGA Tour numbers? The schedule of the week hits on the Phoenix Open and its field after two more high profile WDs that have featured groups looking a little thin. Some one-and-done picks go chalk and off the beaten path to mix things up. They close with some more quotes from a PGA Tour star on if LIV players should be welcomed back without penalty.

On this week's pod: TWO different 54-hole no cut golf events, Taylor at the Grammys, and an absolute legend in NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry. Hosted by Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell. Thanks to the weather, and the new Signature Event schedule, Wyndham Clark won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in only 54 holes... but he did shoot a 60. (1:49). Last week's winner, Frenchman Matthieu Pavon, played well at Pebble Beach, and Michael is remembering what happened back when the guys had a heckler call in when they broadcast at Quinnipiac's student radio station (3:50). LIV regularly scheduled 54 hole event included a 59 from eventual winner Joaquin Niemann, while newbie Jon Rahm's team too the W in Mayakoba (5:25). The DP World Tour was in Bahrain, and Dylan Frittelli returned to form to return to the winner's circle (8:08). Blast from the past Anthony Kim has announced his intentions to return to professional golf, and Alex can't believe the former phenom is ready for a return (9:04). Taylor Swift stole the spotlight from the Grammys last night, and Alex has some feelings about the whole affair (10:13). Our YouTube channel has some great stuff on it, including weekly videos showcasing great stuff from last month's PGA Show which will continue to roll out of the next few weeks (13:56). Alex headed to the cinema to see Disney's new Migration, and brings us a review in Tuned In (15:12). The WM Phoenix Open parties on this weekend, and Scottie Scheffler looks to claim a 3-peat (16:28). This week's guest is NBA legend and Hall of Famer Rick Barry. The former Finals MVP, 8x All Star, and 4x World Long Drive Champion, is also an avid pickle baller. Rick chatting with Alex live on the PGA Show floor last month, and shares why he loves pickle ball, what it was like to dunk on Bill Russell, and his favorite golf course (18:59). This Sunday is the Super Bowl in Las Vegas, and all we really care about here is the prop bets (49:49). As we #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex shares his football spread, which Michael thinks is a little too pun-ny (55:35). Support our friends! Joaquin Niemann completely tore up Mayakoba on Friday shooting a 59 in the first round. He then followed that up by beating Sergio Garcia in a playoff on Sunday to win his first LIV Golf event. Jon Rahm showed up to play as well. He missed the playoff by two strokes but his brand new team Legion XIII won the team competition. We also cover why Wyndham Clark has now moved to the #1 spot of Digsies most hated golfers and Jake & Digsies have a few differing opinons on a couple things.
This week Blair and Matt recap Wyndham Clark's 54 hole victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at 17 under. Next, they recap Joaquin Niemann's first LIV victory at LIV Mayakoba along with Legion XIII's first team win. Then, they preview the WM Phoenix Open playing this weekend in Socttsdale, AZ where two time defending champion Scottie Scheffler will try for a third time. After, Blair and Matt preview the LIV Las Vegas which is a new location for them this year. Jon Rahm is currently the betting favorite at +450. Pebble recap (2:15)LIV Mayakoba (11:30)OWGR discussion (18:36)WM Phoenix Open (30:01)
After the cancellation of the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am we look back at a pair of 54 hole tournaments with the PGA Tour's weather shortened weekend as well as the LIV season opener at Mayakoba. We begin at Pebble where Wyndham Clark wins after a third, and final, round 60 - setting a new course record and beating Ludvig by a shot. We break down the finish and the decision making that led to the shortened format given the relative lack of options, and provide some context for how Clark's third round compares to other low rounds from recent years in pro golf. We also look at the others on the leaderboard (19:00) including Ludvig, JT, Jason Day as well as the course setup, Clark's decision to turn LIV down and stay on the PGA Tour, Spieth and Rory's respective comments on the potential PIF investment into the Tour (40:00), off course rumblings, a review of Neil's top and bottom 10 from his pre-tournament power rankings, and some reflections from our time on-site at the tournament. Then we turn our attention to Mayakoba for the LIV season opener (1:09:30) as Joaquin Niemann wins the individual title in a playoff over Sergio with Jon Rahm's team wins the team crown. As the only live golf broadcasted on Sunday, we take stock of the progress and remaining shortcomings of the league's team rosters, the broadcast product and upcoming tech advancements and more. Andy and Joseph kick off the pod with what they are IN on and OUT on for this week. Then Kyle Porter (@KylePorterCBS) of CBS Sports and Normal Sport joins to discuss the state of professional golf on the heels of LIV Golf's increased public attention during LIV Mayakoba. The three discuss where LIV is succeeding, where it falls short, and how the league's potential growth impacts the professional golf landscape. To conclude the episode, Andy and Joseph each offer a recommendation.
This beefy Friday episode begins with some amusements from Andy's time at Pebble Beach, watching and betting on the hapless Ams trying to play the 17th hole in brutal winds. Eventually Brendan steers the ship onto the major news of the week, the PGA Tour's announcement of a new company with $1.5 billion in investment from SSG and the impacts of a new for-profit entity with player equity. They have some amusing inside intel from Jay's meeting with PGA Tour staff, the players Zoom call, and reaction from multiple sides both “celebrating” and ruminating on what this means for PIF involvement. That's the elephant in the room they discuss -- can players take the next step and now unify? They also discuss what this money will go towards and what these private equity sharks will expect. Rory McIlroy's frustrated comments from earlier in the week are given a full rundown, and contrasted with Jordan Spieth's press conference. There's also reaction to LIV's announcement about “every shot” coverage and the reasoning for Jon Rahm's team being named Legion XIII as their season begins at Mayakoba.
DB dishes the goods on all things LIV Golf from Mayakoba in Mexico as the 2024 season gets started. We discuss teams, changes to LIV, Mayakoba's history & key stats, and weather.
