Predators I've Caught With Chris Hansen

30-year-old Michael Burks started an internet chat with a Perverted Justice decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl. When they initially spoke, Burks had asked the decoy if she wanted to get together and have some fun. He offered to drive her to a location where she could meet him when she said she would but couldn't because of her father. Burks maintained his assertions that the decoy was jailbait and that it was against the law to have inappropriate contact with her. On January 7, 2006, Burks struck up a conversation and declared that while they would meet a few times, "nothing serious" would take place. All he wanted to do, he claimed, was to "kick back," and he didn't want to go out or get her any alcohol since doing so would "open a Pandora's box." He stated that if he came over, he couldn't stay very long He promised to arrive for between one and two hours so they could watch a movie. In this episode, I am pleased to share the screen with one of the most impactful guitar players who has molded hundreds to love and excel in the craft. Meet Roger "Hurricane" Wilson; the more you get to know him, the more you understand why he has an accurate moniker for his fantastic career and how his passion and purpose continue in all these decades.  Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Roger shares his journey of first picking up the guitar at age 9 and started learning note by note, falling hard for rock and roll, and he never looked back. ✔️ He shares one unforgettable remark from a young student that stuck to him. The critical thing was to "have some fun." With music and everything else in life, something more amazing comes out when we're letting ourselves enjoy our gifts. ✔️ From teaching, building the chops to learning to write the songs and figuring out where the history comes from, Roger had his share of being discouraged from"doing this musician thing." ✔️ Roger shares how the fame and rockstar lifestyle can go to a person's head many times, but he stood by the belief that humility is the best virtue and there's always going to be somebody better who can come along. "There's nothing wrong with being proud of what you do and everything; just don't let it get to your head."  ✔️ His moniker "Hurricane" was him getting in and out of joints and gigs fast as a passionate musician. "I love playing guitar, and I don't care if anybody is listening or not." ✔️ At age 68, there's more to be done by the Hurricane. "Think about what you're going to leave behind — that's more about it now than anything else."    Roger "Hurricane" Wilson has been playing guitar since 1963 and performing professionally since 1972 in his own band, as a solo artist at home, and on the road. From 1973 to 1985, he owned and operated the brick-and-mortar location of the Roger Wilson Guitar Studio in Atlanta, Georgia, which still operates online today. It was during this time that he taught hundreds of students basic and advanced guitar styles. He has also worked as a radio DJ, music journalist, and broadcaster. In addition, he has been a judge for the  International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, as well as being a 2015 Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame Inductee. To date, he has released over 25 albums and toured over a million miles. Wilson started playing professionally in 1972, and he has jammed with Les Paul, Hubert Sumlin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins, Roy Buchanan, Savoy Brown, Magic Slim, Michael Burks, and Charlie Musselwhite. He has also shared the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Little Milton, John Mayall, Marcia Ball, Delbert McClinton, Taj Mahal, Leon Russell, and Edgar Winter.   Visit Roger's website: www.hurricanwilson.com   _____________________________________________________________________________ How to Connect with Dianne A. It's a special edition of The Roadhouse, featuring winners from the 2013 Blues Music Awards. I managed to get most of the major categories into the hour ahead and include such great artists as Michael Burks, Tab Benoit, Janiva Magness, The Mannish Boys, and Ruthie Foster. The 428th Roadhouse is one edition where I break a bit from the tagline - “the finest blues you've never heard” - to bring you just the finest blues, period, from the previous year.

We were fortunate enough to have acclaimed blues artist Joe Pitts join us in Georgia on the way back to his home state of Arkansas. Joe is a powerful, soulful & multi-talented performer who has been compared to guitarists like Warren Haynes, Michael Burks, Larry McCray, Walter Trout and Joe Bonamassa. Although his influences range from Duane Allman and Dickey Betts to Roy Buchanan, Joe is best known for his slide guitar work with the band Liquid Groove Mojo. Touted as one of Arkansas' best bands, the International touring band has played hundreds of shows, touring Europe and the Midwest/Midsouth. Joe has been widely recongized for his vocals as well, having been chosen as one of the best vocalists of the year at the 2006 Indie Artist Radio awards. Sweet! Joe came by to talk with Frank "the Hounddog" about touring, Joe's music, and all sorts of other interesting stuff. We hope to have Joe back in the Doghouse again soon.

You can buy Bettye's music on CD at the Anti- label site. Bettye's own Web site is here. • Shoot Him Down by Jenny Beck from her album On The Outside; available on CD from jennybeck.co.uk. All songs from Jenny's previous releases are available from her site as individual downloads for £1 each. • Don't You Tell Me by Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women from their CD Old, New, Borrowed & Blue; available from the iTunes Music Store. Their music is available on CD from Alligator Records. • I'm Your Honeyboy by Reverend Raven and the Chain-Smoking Altar Boys, featuring Madison Slim, from their album Live At Blues On Grand; available from the iTunes Music Store. You can also buy their music on CD over at CD Baby. • Heartless by Michael Burks, from his album Make It Rain; available from the iTunes Music Store. You can also buy his CDs from Alligator Records. Also mentioned on tonight's show: the site No iPod Required - yes, you can listen to podcasts without the famous piece of hardware. You can even burn podcasts to CD for listening later. Two other great music podcasts I mention on tonight's show are Bad Dawg Radio and The Great American Music Hour. The Murphy's Saloon intro is from Just Got To Boogie by Matt Thorpe. (Music on this week's episode of Murphy's Saloon is courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network, the artists and the record labels cited above. Special thanks to Reverend Raven.)
